Since the new Spirit movie is debuting this month, I thought it was appropriate to review the latest Spirit comic.

Chad Hardin and Wayne Faucher do a good job of continuing the style of drawing developed by creator Will Eisner. Various times, the artists use items from the story in place of the traditional panel borders. Eisner would be proud. They also preserve the way the characters are drawn. The Spirit, Commisioner Dolan, etc look the way they should look. A more realistic style would ruin the Spirit.

Aragones and Evanier have been favorites of mine. I enjoyed there Groo series. Evanier wrote the seemingly forgotten DNAgents. From DNAgents to Crossfire to Blackhawks, Evanier has always turned in quality scripts. This is no different. Although I prefer the Spirit in the city, his jungle adventure was a nice change of pace. This is a good comic to give to someone who does not normally read comic books. The done in one issue story was easy to pick up for someone who does not follow the Spirit.

Highly recommended, especially for fans of the original series and Paul Dini’s Detective.
