It is always a treat when a new issue of one of my favorites is published. Invincible has been excellent from the start.

This issue is a change of pace. It features a villain named PowerPlex. He is able to absorb any form of energy and use it to blast his opponent. What is interesting about this is the story is from the villain’s point of view.

We get to know PowerPlex’s wife and son. PowerPlex works for the Pentagon. His days at the Pentagon are numbered because he stole some items to help him control his powers. Why does PowerPlex want to kill Invincible? Because his sister died during a battle between Invincible and Omni-Man. PowerPlex is convinced that Invincible deliberately killed his sister. It is tragic to watch what happens to this villain.

The art in Invincible #59 is more cartoony than I like but it works for this book. The style was established in the first issue and has remained consistent. This is a book with a lot of talking but the combination of Kirkman’s wit and Ottley’s artistic expressions make it work.

Highly recommended for fans of super-hero comics who are looking for something a little different.
