Comic Book Review: Ultimate Spider-Man #93

All right! After having to read a couple of lousy comics, it is time to review what month in and month out is the most reliable and consistent title: Ultimate Spider-Man.

Synopsis: We are broadcasting live from Krakoa Island!! We see a huge brawl between Deadpool and his Reavers against the X-Men and Spider-Man. During the fight, we see footage from the TV show about how the Reavers were constructed and that Deadpool, real name Wadey Wilson, is their leader. Deadpool rants about how mutants are scum, genetic mistakes and deserve to be killed.

During the fight, Spider-Man keeps mentioning “But, I’m not a mutant!” It’s pretty funny. While Kitty and Spider-Man are hiding, Kitty asks him if he is going to break up with her because of this. Then Kitty wonders what Deadpool and the Reavers did with Professor X.

The fight continues with plenty of action. During the fight, Spider-Man and the X-men make their way closer and closer to the broadcasting station of the TV show. Spider-Man finally gets his hands on Deadpool and just kicks the crap out of him. Spider-man then pulls the off Deadpool’s mask just to see what kind of Looney he is. TO his and the rest of the X-men’s total shock and horror, Deadpool is none other than Professor Xavier!! End of issue!

The Good: Wow! Once again, Ultimate Spider-Man delivers the goods! This title is money in the bank every time. Ultimate Spider-Man #93 was highly entertaining. Bendis absolutely rocks on this title. I love his Spider-Man. As always, Bendis’ dialogue is comedic gold. Spider-Man has fantastic banter during the entire fight in this issue. The action is also well done. This issue has such a good flow and pace to the fight that you just keep turning the pages ready for the next panel.

And wow, what a swerve! Deadpool is Professor X! I definitely did not see that one coming. I cannot wait for the next issue to see where Bendis is going with this storyline! And that, my friends, is the true mark of a good comic. If you finish reading it and are immediately salivating for the next issue then the writer did his job. Bendis has definitely done his job on Ultimate Spider-Man.

The Bad: I have no complaints about the writing in Ultimate Spider-Man #93. I think Bagley’s art is just average. It doesn’t detract from the title; it just doesn’t add anything to the title for me.
