Keep in mind, that the Top 200 single-issue comic sales chart is based on orders tracked by the ComicHub system at local comic book shops selling American comics. This includes over 3,000 stores selling American comics worldwide. As always, it is important to remember that these rankings are also not actual sales. These rankings only represent the number of units ordered by local comic shops.
It is that time of the month when we get to check out the latest single-issue comic book sales rankings. Things are getting murkier in terms of actual unit numbers. So, we will have to settle with going to ICv2 for their Top 200 sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we have to work with what we get.

Ouch. The Top 10 to the March 2022 single issue sales chart is about as bad as the Top 10 in February 2022. Marvel Comics absolutely crushed DC Comics by placing eight titles in the Top 10. Again, the diversity of titles from Marvel Comics is impressive. Marvel placed titles in the Top 10 from six different franchises!
We will talk more in-depth about Strange #1, Punisher #1, and Carnage #1 in the Debut Issues section.
What is impressive is that Moon Knight #9 took the number 10 spot. What a strong showing for this title. If you would have asked me that Moon Knight would still be in the Top 10 by its ninth issue I would have said no way. Moon Knight has never been a top seller.
Look, kudos to Marvel Comics on Moon Knight’s success. I am a long-time old-school Moon Knight fan. I adored the Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz Moon Knight stories. The Alan Zelenetz and Chris Warner Moon Knight title was solid. The Doug Moench and Tommy Edwards Moon Knight title and the Doug Moench and Mark Texeira title were both great. Charlie Huston and David Finch turned in a fantastic Moon Knight series. This string of good Moon Knight titles came to a screeching halt with Bendis’ awful Moon Knight title that got canceled for getting garbage sales numbers. Moon Knight did not have any sales success in the Marvel NOW Moon Knight title or with the All-New, All-Different Moon Knight title.
So, with a string of failures, I was not confident in this current Moon Knight title when it debuted in 2021. However, credit to Marvel Comics for assembling a team that has delivered a popular comic book. There is also the possibility that the Moon Knight Disney+ TV show has increased awareness and interest in Moon Knight’s character.
DC Comics got pummeled to death and only placed a pathetic two titles in the Top 10. And, of course, both DC Comics titles are Bruce Wayne comics. Zero surprise.

Good lord, it gets even worse with the Top 25. Marvel Comics destroyed DC Comics by placing a stunning twenty-one titles in the Top 25. That is even better than what Marvel did in February 2022. Again, Marvel powered its Top 25 success on a diverse selection of franchises. Marvel Comics pulled from ten different franchises.
Peter Parker is to Marvel Comics what Bruce Wayne is to DC Comics. However, the big difference is that Marvel Comics has made other titles in the Spider-Man franchise into big sellers. Carnage and Spider-Gwen had good sales debut numbers and Venom continues to be a strong seller.
Meanwhile, DC Comics has failed to make any Batman franchise title not starring Bruce Wayne into a big seller.
DC Comics only placed an embarrassing three titles in the Top 25. This is shameful. This is why once Discovery completes their takeover of WB they need to engage in a full purge of the DC Comics editorial staff as well as some of the writers. These Top 25 numbers highlight the systemic failure at DC Comics.
And, of course, all three DC Comics titles are Bruce Wayne comics. This also emphasizes how critically important Bruce Wayne is to DC Comics. Not the Batman Family, but Bruce Wayne specifically. Bruce Wayne is the only character that DC Comics has that is consistently a Top 10 and Top 25 seller. Keep this in mind whenever you hear anyone spouting nonsense that DC Comics should replace Bruce Wayne.
These Top 25 numbers paint a clear picture of how Marvel Comics has had incredible success in building up numerous franchises into successful and popular sellers. This is in stark contrast to how DC Comics has absolutely no character outside of Bruce Wayne that they can manage to make into a Top 10 or Top 25 seller. This is a huge defect with DC Comics. At some point, DC Comics has got to figure out how to make their other franchises appealing to readers. It is obvious that the current approach and current creative teams are simply not getting the job done for DC Comics.
Image Comics managed one title in the Top 25. This was an improvement over the February 2022 sales chart.

Marvel Comics continued its total dominance by placing thirty-five titles in the Top 50. This is even better than how Marvel Comics did in February 2022. Again, Marvel Comics continues to enjoy success across a diverse selection of franchises.
DC Comics placed an unimpressive nine titles in the Top 50. Nine. This ties what DC Comics did in February 2022. Five of the nine DC Comics titles were Bruce Wayne titles. Eight of the nine DC Comics titles were from the Batman franchise. The only non-Batman franchise DC Comic in the Top 50? Nice House On The Lake #7. For a company that has iconic characters like Kal-El, Diana Prince, Barry Allen, and Hal Jordan, this is downright embarrassing.
Image Comics put four titles in the Top 50. This was a disappointing Top 50 finish for Image Comics and far lower than the eight titles that Image placed in the Top 50 in February 2022.
Dark Horse Comics and Boom! Studios both placed one title in the Top 50.

Marvel Comics dominated the Top 75 by placing forty-six titles in the Top 75. This was even better than the forty-two titles that Marvel had in the Top 75 in February 2022.
DC Comics slotted just sixteen titles in the Top 75. This was atrocious and even worse than the twenty-one titles that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in February 2022. Of course, twelve of DC Comics’ sixteen titles were from the Batman franchise.
Image Comics placed nine titles in the Top 75. This was slightly less than the ten titles that Image Comics placed in the Top 75 in February 2022.
Boom! Studios had two titles in the Top 75. Dark Horse Comics and IDW Publishing each placed one title in the Top 75.

Marvel Comics crushed the Top 100 by placing fifty-six titles in the Top 100. This is actually a little worse than Marvel Comics’ fifty-seven titles in the Top 100 in February 2022.
DC Comics placed twenty-seven titles in the Top 100. This was actually slightly better than DC Comics’ twenty-six titles in the Top 100 in February 2022. So…victory? Of course, eighteen of DC Comics’ twenty-seven titles were from the Batman franchise.
Image Comics slotted twelve titles in the Top 100. This was slightly worse than Image Comics’ fourteen titles in the Top 100 in February 2022.
Boom! Studios placed two titles in the Top 100 which was identical to what Boom! Studios did in February 2022.
IDW Publishing had two titles in the Top 100. This was an improvement over February 2022 when IDW Publishing did not place any comics at all in the Top 100. Go Godzilla and Power Rangers!

Strange #1 took the number one spot which is definitely impressive. However, a word of caution to everyone thinking Marvel Comics has a new hit on its hands. In February 2022, Ghost Rider #1 came in at the number 2 spot in the Top 10. How did Ghost Rider #2 do in March 2022? Well, Ghost Rider #2 crashed and burned all the way down to the number 45 spot. So, let’s pump the brakes on Strange #1 and see how it does in April 2022. I have a feeling we are going to see a similar crash and burn with Strange.
Punisher #1 also had a massive debut by taking the number 2 spot. Again, keep Ghost Rider #1 in mind when trying to gauge the long-term success of Punisher. Between Strange and Punisher, I am betting that Punisher actually performs better in April. However, I do not expect either title to become a steady Top 25 title.
Carnage #1 had a strong debut coming in at the number 5 spot. It will be interesting if Carnage can replicate Venom’s sales success and become a consistent Top 25 title each and every month.
Spider-Gwen Gwenverse #1 had a nice debut number coming in at the number 11 spot. Having said that, I am not bullish on this title. I could see Spider-Gwen Gwenverse crashing down the sales charts in the coming months.
Captain Carter #1 had a solid debut number at the number 16 spot. I think Captain Carter is a title more likely to suffer the same fate as Ghost Rider from February 2022 to March 2022.
Immortal X-Men #1 debuted at the number 18 spot. I find this to be a rather soft debut number for an X-Men franchise title. The X-Men franchise is Marvel’s number 2 franchise only behind the Spider-Man franchise. Marvel probably would have liked to have seen a stronger debut number for Immortal X-Men #1. Marvel Comics has continued to have trouble getting any X-Men franchise title outside of X-Men to get consistently good sales numbers.
What If…? Miles Morales #1 had a solid debut at the number 19 spot. However, this is another title that I am not bullish on at all. Miles Morales’ regular title does not sell well. It will be interesting to see if Miles is more popular in a Multiverse setting than he is in the 616 Universe setting.
Venom Lethal Protector #1 debuted at the number 20 spot. This is a bit of a soft debut considering how strongly the new Venom title has sold over the past five months. This may be a sign that there is little appetite among readers for random Venom mini-series.
Wolverine Patch #1 debuted at the number 35. This is definitely a disappointing sales debut number. It seems that Marvel has reached a saturation point with Wolverine given that Marvel is already publishing two other Wolverine titles. Wolverine Patch seems like a title trying to trade on nostalgia. I am just not sure how much appetite there is among the readership for this title. It would not surprise me if Wolverine Patch slid out of the Top 50 in a few months.
Star Wars Han Solo Chewbacca #1 had an unimpressive debut at the number 42 spot. I would suspect this Star Wars title will be out of the Top 50 with the second issue. Star Wars titles are odd ducks. Marvel will hit it big with a few Star Wars titles while the majority of them end up getting average sales numbers.
Trial of The Amazons #1 debuted at the number 57 spot. Trial of The Amazons Wonder Girl #1 debuted at the number 115 spot. I will address these titles in more detail in the Wonder Woman Franchise section.
War For Earth-3 #1 debuted at the number 81 spot. The Devil’s Reign tie-in titles continue to have unimpressive sales rankings. I will address these titles in the Big Events and Tie-Ins section.
Women of Marvel #1 posted an awful sales ranking at the number 109 spot. There continues to be very little appetite for these special one-shot issues starring only female characters and written only by female authors. However, these issues make Marvel Comics feel good about themselves so I would expect Marvel Comics to continue to subsidize these types of titles and continue to roll them out in the future despite the lack of any sales success.
Naomi Season 2 #1 had an atrocious sales debut coming in at the number 159 spot. I will dive into this title more in the Justice League Franchise section.
Lastly, Godzilla Vs Power Rangers #1 had a debut at the number 71 spot. Only 71?! What is wrong with you people?! This title is a gem!

Devil’s Reign #5 slid down to the number 17 spot from the number 6 spot in February 2022. It looks like this event is going to end on a downslide.
All of the Devil’s Reign tie-in titles continue to get unimpressive sales rankings. Of the five Devil’s Reign tie-in issues, only one placed in the Top 50, and it just barely did that. Two of the five Devil’s Reign tie-in issues placed outside of the Top 100.
Things look horrendous for DC Comics and its minor big event stories for March 2022. Trial of the Amazons has been hyped up by DC Comics for several months. However, Trial of the Amazons #1 crashed and burned right out of the gate by failing to even debut in the Top 50. Trial of the Amazons #1 only managed to debut at the number 57 spot.
It gets even worse as Trial of the Amazons Wonder Girl #1 debuted outside of the Top 100 at number 115. The total failure of the Trial of Amazons is completely embarrassing for DC Comics.
DC Comics’ other minor big event in War For Earth-3 was a complete dud. War of Earth-3 #1 struggled to debut in the Top 100 by only placing at the number 81 spot. War For Earth-3 #2 crashed and burned by only slotting in at the number 153 spot. The Flash War For Earth-3 tie-in issue had an equally terrible showing by only slotting in at the number 95 spot.
DC Comics’ complete ineptness outside of a Bruce Wayne title continues to be shocking.

March 2022 was a down month for the Star Wars franchise titles. Star Wars Darth Vader #20 took the number 5 spot in February 2022. However, Star Wars Darth Vader #21 dropped all the way down to the number 38 spot. Star Wars Crimson Reign #2 took the number 17 spot in February 2022 but dropped down to the number 21 spot in March 2022.
Star Wars High Republic has not been the sales hit that Lucasfilm’s Story Group had been desperately hoping for since its debut. Neither High Republic title managed to make the Top 25. One made the Top 50. The other High Republic title only managed to make the Top 75.
All in all, there was not much either bad or great about the Star Wars franchise in March 2022. Only one Star Wars title made it into the Top 25. Five Star Wars titles made it into the Top 50. Eight Star Wars titles made it into the Top 75. Two Star Wars titles failed to make it into the Top 100.

March 2022 was another good month for Amazing Spider-Man and Venom. Now we have the successful debuts of Carnage and Spider-Gwen. It will be interesting to see how well Carnage and Spider-Gwen perform going forward.
The Spider-Man franchise placed three titles in the Top 10 and eight titles in the Top 25. That has to make Marvel Comics very happy.
However, all is not perfect for the Spider-Man franchise. Spider-Woman #20 barely made it into the Top 100 by taking the number 93 spot. It is never good when a new comic gets outsold by a resolicited comic book like what happened with Amazing Spider-Man #90 taking the number 83 spot. I have no idea why Marvel Comics still publishes Spider-Woman. It is clear that Marvel Comics is fine with having to subsidize this niche title with the money generated by the top end of the Spider-Man franchise.
Ben Reilly Spider-Man continues to drop down the charts like a rock. Ben Reilly Spider-Man #2 took the number 79 spot in February 2022. However, Ben Reilly Spider-Man #3 fell all the way to the number 105 spot.
Miles Morales Spider-Man #35 placed at the number 95 spot in February 2022. However, Miles Morales Spider-man #36 dropped out of the Top 100 and fell to the number 117 spot. This title continues to struggle. However, Marvel will gladly subsidize this title and keep it on the market.
Savage Spider-Man crashed and burned in spectacular fashion. Savage Spider-Man #1 took the number 4 spot in February 2022. However, Savage Spider-Man #2 plummeted all the way out of the Top 100 and down to the number 110 spot. This is no surprise to me. This title has been a bad read so far.
Silk continues to be Dead on Arrival. Silk #1 took the number 35 spot in January 2022. Silk #2 crashed down to the number 87 spot in February 2022. I said at that time that I expected this title to fall out of the Top 100 with the third issue. And guess what happened? Silk #3 fell out of the Top 100 and slid all the way to the number 123 spot. I would expect Silk to magically get converted into a mini-series by Marvel and then canceled.

X-Men continues to be a Top 10 title even in its ninth issue. I will admit that I was skeptical that X-Men could continue to be a Top 10 title without Jonathan Hickman at the helm. Kudos to Marvel Comics for pulling this off.
However, once you get outside of the X-Men title, the sales rankings get less impressive for the X-Men franchise. Immortal X-Men #1 debuting at the number 18 spot makes me feel that it should fall out of the Top 25 by the second issue. The question is does Immortal X-Men stabilize by the third issue and become a consistent Top 50 title or does it continues its slide down and out of the Top 50.
X Lives of Wolverine #2 and #3 took the number 14 and number 18 spots respectively in February 2022. X Lives of Wolverine #4 and #5 slipped down to the number 25 spot and number 32 spot. X Deaths of Wolverine #4 and #5 were consistent with the number 35 sales ranking for X Deaths of Wolverine #3 in February.
Sabertooth #2 dropped like a rock landing at the number 64 spot. That is way down from the number 19 spot that Sabertooth #1 snagged in February 2022.
The dog of the X-Men franchise is X-Cellent #2 which crashed and burned in a shocking fashion. Now, in February 2022, I predicted that since X-Cellent #1 only debuted at the number 48 spot that this title would be dropping out of the Top 100 in short order. But, good lord! I did not expect to see X-Cellent #2 plummet all the way to the number 189 spot. I would suspect that X-Cellent is magically converted to a mini-series and canceled soon.

The Avengers franchise continues to be a damaged franchise these days. The only success to be found here is on the back of Thor. Outside of Thor, there is not much great news. Before we move on from Thor I have to congratulate the creative team on that title. Thor has become a consistent Top 15 to Top 10 title. It is rather impressive.
Hulk suffered a big drop in March 2022. Hulk #4 took the number 7 spot in February 2022. However, Hulk #5 tumbled not only out of the Top 10 but out of the Top 25 by falling all the way to the number 26 spot. This was a surprise. The first four issues had been such strong sellers that I did not at all expect to see Hulk #5 suffer such a drop.
Sadly, She-Hulk #2 also had a big drop. In January 2022, She-Hulk #1 scored an impressive number 2 spot. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed She-Hulk #1. It was so much better than the crap we had been getting from Jason Aaron on the Avengers. Now, I was not expecting She-Hulk to remain a monthly Top 10 title. However, She-Hulk #2 falling all the way down to the number 22 spot was a bigger drop than I was expecting.
Avengers #53 took the number 32 spot in February 2022. However, Avengers #54 dropped down to the number 49 spot. It looks like Avengers may crash out of the Top 50 in April. It is a shame that Marvel has let one of its flagship titles crumble into such a state of decay.
It is worrying that the Avengers franchise only placed two titles in the Top 25. The Avengers franchise also only placed four titles in the Top 50. Black Panther and Iron Man continue to be unimpressive sellers. Captain American and Iron Man mini-series ended with disappointing sales rankings.
Of course, Captain Marvel continues to be the cellar dweller of the Avengers franchise. In February 2022, Captain Marvel #36 posted a terrible number 120 sales rank. However, it got even worse in March 2022 when Captain Marvel #37 sank all the way down to the number 157 spot. Captain Marvel continues to be a total failure. I have to say that it is impressive how Marvel continues to completely refuse to acknowledge this fact and act like Captain Marvel is a big deal. Not even Roman Reigns could no-sell this much.

DC Comics’ success all comes down to one character: Bruce Wayne. That’s it. Bruce Wayne placed two titles in the Top 10 and three titles in the Top 25 and five titles in the Top 30. The rest of the Batman franchise? Zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and just two comics in the Top 50. That is a problem.
When you pull back to the Top 100, the Batman franchise accounts for sixteen titles. I have no idea what DC Comics’ Top 100 would look like without the Batman franchise. It would be brutally ugly.
Nightwing #89 took the number 37 spot in February 2022. Nightwing #90 dropped several spots to the number 44 spot in March 2022. I know this is a downward trend, but I think Nightwing will still stay in the Top 50 and may even bob up a bit. I just do not see Nightwing sliding out of the Top 50 next month.
It appears that readers are beginning to tire of the Joker. In February 2022, Joker #12 took the number 28 spot. However, in March 2022, Joker #13 plummeted down to the number 51 spot. This is a bad sign. It will be interesting to see if Joker can settle in around the Top 50 or if it continues to slide down and out of the Top 75. I am not ready to count the Joker out just yet.
In February, the lowest selling issue of Detective Comics was issue #1054 at the number 59 spot. In March 2022, the lowest selling issue of Detective Comics was issue #1058 at the number 66 spot. I think Detective Comics will continue to trend downward. It is simply a lot to ask readers to purchase four issues of a title every month.
Robin continues to be reliably pedestrian. In February 2022, Robin #11 took the number 83 spot. In March 2022, Robin #12 took the number 87 spot. Consistently unimpressive.
In February 2022, I Am Batman #6 finished outside of the Top 50 at the number 69 spot. In March 2022, I Am Batman #7 crashed and burned out of the Top 100 and plummetted all the way down to the number 130 spot. Compare and contrast this to the fact that the only DC Comics to be found in the Top 10 and in the Top 25 in March 2022 were all Bruce Wayne titles. In I Am Batman, we have Fox masquerading as Batman and readers are saying “No thank you.”
When people say that Bruce Wayne can be replaced as Batman you know they are not living in reality. The numbers do not lie. Jace Fox’s title is almost out of the Top 150 and we are only on the seventh issue of this young title.
Batgirls continues to be a total failure. Batgirls has sunk down the charts in a quick fashion. In December 2021, Batgirls debuted at the number 18 spot. However, in January 2022, Batgirls #2 fell off a cliff and dropped to the number 62 spot. At that point, I said that I expected this title to drop out of the Top 100 in a couple of months. In February 2022, Batgirls #3 slid down to the number 71 spot. I said at that point that I expected Batgirls to be out of the Top 100 by the fifth issue. Well, in March 2022, Batgirls #4 dropped down to the number 84 spot. Will we see Batgirls drop out of the Top 100 with its fifth issue in April? We shall find out!
Remember when Harley Quinn was a strong seller for DC Comics? Those were the days. March 2022 saw Harley Quinn still safely outside of the Top 100.
On a positive note, Catwoman enjoyed a nice bounce in March 2022. In February 2022, Catwoman #40 finished out of the Top 100 at the number 122 spot. However, in March 2022, Catwoman #41 took the number 86 spot. That is a positive sign for everyone’s favorite feline.

The Superman franchise is a complete mess that shows no signs of getting better anytime soon. It is stunning how DC Comics has taken the most iconic character in all of the comic books and just driven it into the ground. There appears to be no logic behind DC Comics’ decisions with the Superman franchise. It is clear that DC Comics needs to clean house and get a new editor and new creative teams in an effort to try and actually get readers excited about the Superman franchise. What is clear is that the current direction has been a miss with a vast majority of readers.
Thank goodness for some vintage Kal-El (and Batman, too) because it is vintage Kal-El that helped the Superman franchise score an extremely rare Top 10 ranking. This is my point. Sometimes DC Comics gets too cute with the Superman franchise. Sticking to the basics often leads to the most success.
Superman Son of Kal-El continues to be a disappointment. In February 2022, Superman Son of Kal-El #8 snagged the number 56 spot. Superman Son of Hal-El #9 slipped a couple of spots down to the number 58 spot. This title continues to be a cringey read. I just do not see this title ever being able to be a consistent Top 50 title.
Action Comics #1040 took the number 91 spot in February 2022. Action Comics #1041 fell down to the number 111 spot in March 2022. This is another title that is just not a good read at all.
Wonder Woman Franchise

Trail of the Amazons is already an unmitigated disaster. DC Comics has been hyping this Wonder Woman big event for months. This was supposed to be where the Wonder Woman creative team cleaned up their mistakes and finally delivered a story that readers would actually care about. That did not happen. Trial of the Amazons #1 debuting outside of the Top 50 at the number 57 spot has to be a stinging defeat for DC Comics.
It got even worse as the Trial of the Amazons tie-in issue Wonder Woman #785 finished out of the Top 100 at the number 104 spot. But, there was actually even worse news still to come. Trial of the Amazons Wonder Girl #1 debuted outside of the Top 100 at the number 115 spot. A new DC Comics title should never debut outside of the Top 100. That is stunning.
Yet, there was even more bad news with Trial of the Amazons tie-in issue Nubia and the Amazons #6 almost not even making the Top 150 by taking the number 146 spot. This is horrendous.
At this point, the Wonder Woman franchise is completely broken. DC Comics must fire the editor who thought the direction of the Wonder Woman franchise post Infinite Frontier was a good idea. DC Comics must also fire the creative team of Stephanie Williams, Vita Ayala, Becky Cloonan, and Michael Conrad. They are not comic book writers and they do not understand the industry or the Wonder Woman franchise itself. Joelle Jones? She is a wonderful artist, but she just cannot write. DC Comics should pair a real comic book writer with Jones as the artist on a Wonder Woman title and they might have a hit on their hands.
DC Comics needs to refocus on Diana first and foremost. I would then bring in Donna Troy and Cassandra Sandmark and see what the reader response is to those two characters being elevated.
The new Wonder Girl Yara Flor is completely Dead on Arrival. This character had her new title crash and burn out of the gate and get canceled before it could even get to the tenth issue. Now, her mini-series debuted outside of the Top 100. It is also time to move on. Nubia is also a dead-end character that is not going to lead to any sales success.

It is so sad to see DC Comics’ flagship team title in such a pitiful state. It is clear that readers are ready for Brian Bendis to leave DC Comics and never come back.
In February 2022, Justice League #72 took the number 58 spot. In March 2022, Justice League #73 slid down to the number 78 spot, and Justice League #74 took the number 73 spot.
Justice League Incarnate ended with a complete thud. DC Comics massively overestimated readers’ interest in such a hodgepodge of characters masquerading as the Justice League. In February 2022, Justice League Incarnate #4 took the number 64 spot. In March 2022, Justice League Incarnate #5 just barely squeaked into the Top 100 by taking the number 99 spot.
Following the theme of readers no longer interested in any DC comics written by Brian Bendis, we see that extends to the Justice League vs. the Legion of Super-Heroes. In January 2022, Justice League vs. The Legion of Super-Heroes #1 took the number 61 spot which was a terrible debut number. In March 2022, Justice League vs. The Legion of Super-Heroes #2 crashed and burned out of the Top 100, and it fell all the way down to the number 121 spot. This title is definitely dropping out of the Top 150 with the third issue.
I am not surprised by this. Bendis’ reimagined Legion of Super-Heroes is awful. I have no idea why it would appeal to long-time Legion fans or why it would appeal to new fans unfamiliar with the Legion. Again, Geoff Johns had successfully fixed the Legion of Super-Heroes. But, DC Comics does what DC Comics does which is to attempt to fix something that is not broken. This always ends up with a spectacular failure for DC Comics.
And then we get to Brian Bendis’ pet character Naomi. The character that Bendis crudely shoved into both the Superman franchise and the Justice League franchise for no reason. The character appeals to basically only Bendis and maybe his family and friends. Naomi Season 2 #1 debuted outside of the Top 150. Let me say that again. A new DC Comics title debuted outside of the Top 150. Naomi Season 2 #1 took the number 156 spot. Is it possible that Naomi Season 2 does not even make it into the Top 175 in the next month?
The quicker Bendis leaves DC Comics the better.

Three brand new female lead titles from Marvel Comics took the top three spots. Again, remember Ghost Rider #1 in February 2022 compared to Ghost Rider #2 in March 2022. Let’s not get too overexcited. Still, these are good debut numbers.
In February 2022, Daredevil Woman without Fear #2 finished in the number 25 spot. Daredevil Woman Without Fear #3 ended on a down note as it fell to the number 40 spot.
Hawkeye Kate Bishop also ended on a downtrend. In February 2022, Hawkeye Kate Bishop #4 took the number 72 spot. In March 2022, Hawkeye Kate Bishop #5 crashed out of the Top 100 and ended up in the number 122 spot.
Marvel Comics dominated the battle for the Top 10 best-selling female lead titles. Marvel Comics placed seven titles in the Top 10. That was even better than the five comics that Marvel put in the Top 10 best-selling female lead titles in February 2022.
DC Comics only managed to place three titles in the Top 10. This was down from four titles in the Top 10 in February 2022. This is an inexcusable failure by DC Comics. I firmly believe that DC Comics is blessed with far superior female characters than Marvel Comics. Yet, DC Comics is doing nothing successful with such a wealth of wonderful female superheroes.
Marvel Comics placed fourteen titles in the Top 25. DC Comics only managed eight titles in the Top 25.
Sales for female lead titles were stronger in March 2022 than they were in February 2022 thanks largely to Marvel’s new comics. In February 2022, only one female lead title finished in the Top 50. In March 2022, five female lead titles finished in the Top 50. In February 2022, eight female lead titles finished in the Top 100. In March 2022, ten female lead titles finished in the Top 100.

What If…? Miles Morales #1 took the number one spot. It will be interesting to see if this multiverse title continues to outperform Miles’ regular Spider-Man title.
Well, well, well. Look at Iron First. I have never wavered in my belief that needlessly trashing an established white character just to replace them with a minority character with the same gimmick, codename, and power set very rarely leads to success. We saw that recently with Darkhawk. And now we are seeing it with Iron Fist.
In February 2022, Iron Fist #1 debuted at the number 23 spot. Well, in March 2022, Iron Fist #2 dropped like a shot duck all the way out of the Top 100 and down to the number 134 spot. A whopping 111 spot drop in one month. Wow. This title is already Dead on Arrival.
Of course, this is not a huge surprise given that the writer, Alyssa Wong, has admitted that she did not know anything about Iron Fist’s character and is not a comic book fan. Again, it is so important for Marvel Comics and DC Comics to actually hire writers who are comic book writers and have a knowledge and love for the industry and the characters. Just because you are a great poet and short fiction writer does not mean you can successfully write mainstream superhero comic books.
Monkey Prince #2 suffered a similar fate as Iron Fist #2. In February 2022, Monkey Prince #1 debuted at the number 24 spot. However, in March 2022, Monkey Prince #2 plummeted all the way out of the Top 100 and down to the number 138 spot.
Shang-Chi continues to struggle. Evidently, having an MCU movie does not translate into comic sales. In February 2022, Shang-Chi #9 finished outside of the Top 100 and took the number 139 spot. In March 2022, Shang-Chi #9 fell even further down to the number 170 spot. It looks like Shang-Chi is going to struggle to even make it into the Top 200. I am curious to see how long Marvel Comics will want to continue to publish with Dead Title Walking.
The Battle for the Top 10 minority lead titles was actually a close one. In February 2022, Marvel Comics placed six titles in the Top 10 and DC Comics put three titles in the Top 10. In March 2022, Marvel held steady by again placing six titles in the Top 10. DC Comics improved by placing four titles in the Top 10.
Sales for minority lead titles were down in March 2022. In February 2022, two minority lead titles made the Top 25, three minority lead titles made the Top 50, and five minority lead titles made the Top 100. In March 2022, just one minority lead title made the Top 25, only one minority lead title made the Top 50, and four minority lead titles made the Top 100.
