My Hero Academia Chapter 320 Review

My Hero Academia has reached a point we could not predict when this series first started. That point is Izuku Midoriya fighting everyone in Class 1-A. But that is exactly where we find ourselves after Chapter 319 showed Class 1-A setting their sights on helping Izuku Midoriya so he isn’t carrying the weight of taking on All For One and the League of Villains alone. With Izuku as Deku in a place where he does not want that help can Class 1-A be successful in saving their friend? Let’s find out with My Hero Academia Chapter 320.

Synopsis: Facing off against Deku (Izuku Midoriya), Ingenium (Tenya Ida) thinks how he knows the look on Izuku Midoriya’s face as someone who will refuse to stop.

Dynamight (Katsuki Bakugo) reveals that they all know that Deku has unlocked the fourth and sixth One For All users Quirks, commenting how Deku looks different now.

Deku thanks everyone for coming for him and then uses his Smokescreen Quirk to give himself a way to escape. Dynamight uses his Land Mine Blast to blow away the Smokescreen.

Anima (Koji Koda) summons birds to surround Deku. This gives Cellophane (Hanta Sero) an opening to tie Deku up with his tape. Earphone Jack (Kyoka Jiro) then uses her Heart-Beat Wall attack to knock Deku towards Tailman (Mashirao Ojiro), who uses his Tornado Tail Dance to grab Deku. As they do this combination attack Anima, Cellophane, Earphone Jack, and Tailman speak on how Izuku has all helped them out and their friendship.

Hearing all this Deku says he can’t afford to let any of his friends be in danger because of him. Deku then overpowers Tailman and breaks free from his grasp. Deku then tells everyone in Class A to leave him alone.

Tsukyuomi (Fumikage Tokoyami) tackles Deku mid-air while Sugarman (Rikido Sato) catches Tailman and Earphone Jack before they land on the ground. Tsukyuomi flies Deku right into a machine Creati (Momo Yaoyorozu) intended to place Deku to sleep. Deku quickly breaks free from the machine.

Chargebolt (Denki Kaminari) and Tentacole (Mezo Shoji) work together to hold Deku down long enough for Tsukyuomi to lock Deku inside his Ragnarok: Womb capture move. As they do this Sugarman, Tsukyuomi, Creati, Chargebolt, and Tentacole try to talk to Deku as his friends. Deku does not listen and powers up One For All to break free from Tsukyuomi’s Ragnarok: Womb.

Deku then jumps away in attempt to escape. As he tries to leave Deku knows everyone in Class A is just trying to help him since his Danger Sense Quirk (which activates when there is danger or malice around him) hasn’t activated once during this fight. Deku, holding back tears, begs for everyone in Class A to leave him alone because he is fine.

Shoto Todoroki captures Deku inside his Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall. With Deku caught Shoto calls out how Deku is clearly trying to not allow himself cry. Shoto goes on to state that Deku should let his friends help him carry his burdens.

With Deku locked in Shoto’s Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall, Froopy (Tsuyu Asui) tells Izuku that it is okay for him to cry if he wants. Froopy goes on to say that if Deku wants to live out his comic book superhero dream then Class A will help him fulfill that fantasy together.

The Good: While My Hero Academia Chapter 320 is titled “Deku vs Class A” this was never really a fight. It was more about everyone in Class A trying to get Izuku Midoriya as Deku to stop moving for a second and let his friends help him in his time of need. Going with this direction for “Deku vs Class A” was the right choice for Kohei Horikoshi to make at this point in My Hero Academia’s story.

With everyone in Class A not being seen in a while giving each character a spotlight in My Hero Academia Chapter 320 was very much needed. Up to this point we’ve seen Izuku Midoriya, Bakugo Katsuki, Ochaco Uraraka, Shoto Todoroki, and Iida Tenya get a lot of time to develop their characters and voices. Giving room to the rest of Class A for them to voice how they all view Izuku as a friend puts over why they are all there together.

The speeches everyone makes made you feel that an entire year has actually passed in My Hero Academia’s timeline. Horikoshi captures the voices of each character well so they are all talking in their own tone rather than Horikoshi as the writer speaking to the reader. It all reaffirms the bond that the entirety of Class A has formed over the course of the first year at U.A. High School that one of them leaving impacts them all.

While Class A struggled to keep Deku held down long enough for them to get through to him it was good that they went in knowing about all his One For All Quirks. Not being surprised and being prepared to counter all of Deku’s Quirks spoke to how well they work together. Adding in that no one in Class A actually activated Deku’s Danger Sense Quirk added to how everyone in Class A are approaching this as his friend. It also showed the maturity that Class A was approaching things as they did have a calm approach even when they were using their powers against Deku.

All of this made the current state of mind Izuku Midoriya is in as Deku to be even more prominent. It nails down how far gone Izuku is in his quest to stop All For One and the League of Villains alone. It has become a complete obsession that he is not able to see all the damage he is causing to himself. Even when he was trying to hold back his tears it is clear that the emotional and physical exhaustion has far exceed what any person should be able to handle. It does place even greater questions as to how anyone can help Izuku at this point as even after hearing his friends pleas to let them help him wasn’t getting through to him.

My Hero Academia Chapter 320 was also Horikoshi at his best when it comes to the artwork he does. He makes sure that every member of Class A is able to showcase their respective powers in a cool way. There was a nice build to how Class A combined their powers to compliment one another. It all got over how Class A was not approaching taking on Izuku with any sort of malice or anger. It was all about being Izuku’s friend and Horikoshi’s art spoke to it.

The Bad: Nothing.

Overall: My Hero Academia Chapter 320 nails how the “Deku vs Class A” story was not about a big fight but Izuku Midoriya’s friends trying to help him. Every page of this chapter is packed with strong emotion that pushes the narrative of a group of friends uniting to help a friend who has gone over the edge. It all drives home how unpredictable the current narrative around Izuku Midoriya is. How this fight between Deku and Class A wraps up will be very interesting to see play out.
