The Revolution posted a poll concerning the conclusion of Secret Invasion. We asked the Followers of The Revolution “Now That Secret Invasion Has Concluded What Did You Think of Bendis’ Big Event?” Well, the results decidedly of the opinion that Secret Invasion stunk. Here are the results:
It stunk! And I hate the new direction with Dark Reign. 38% (127 votes)
It stunk! But I like the new direction with Dark Reign. 32% (108 votes)
It was average. 25% (86 votes)
It was awesome! 3% (13 votes)
I am not surprised that a whopping 70% of the voters in the poll thought that Secret Invasion stunk. And I am not surprised that a mere 3% thought that Secret Invasion was awesome. That is consistent with what I have read and heard from other comic book readers that I know. Hopefully, Marvel will give their next big event to another writer like Millar or someone else whose writing talents are a better fit for grand and exciting big events.
We have a total of 14 titles headed to the Bunker today. This week is decidedly heavy with Marvel comic books. I will apologize in advance for the fact that as we creep closer to Christmas and New Year’s Day that the number of reviews that I am able to crank out may decline. Sorry, but I do have a family and I like to sit around drinking egg nog with plenty of rum in it and watching football around this time of year.
Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I continue to enjoy Tangent: Superman’s Reign #10. Yeah, the pacing for this story is a bit too slow. But, I am a sucker for a Multiverse-spanning tale of action and adventure. Plus, I like the Tangent Universe characters.
However, the comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Supergirl #36. The New Krypton story continues to be an exciting event and Johns certainly cranked up the intensity with Zor-El’s death last week. It should be interesting to see how this death impacts both Superman and Supergirl.
Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Trinity #29. This story continues to be resoundingly average.
Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I loved X-Men Noir and am fascinated with the Noir universe. So, naturally, I am curious to see if Spider-Man Noir #1 is able to deliver an entertaining story as well.
X-Men Legacy #219 should be another solid read. I have not reviewed this title in a while, but do not mistake that for me not enjoying it. Carey has done an impressive job consistently delivering well crafted issues each and every month.
However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is X-Factor #38. David has shaken off the dampening effect that Secret Invasion had on this title and is once again cranking out the best X-title currently on the market. Fans that enjoy fine dialogue, strong character work and excellent plotting are sure to enjoy David’s X-Factor.
Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? Take your pick between Matt Fraction’s two titles for this week. I am sure that both of them will be unimpressive reads. Unfortunately, these are also my two all-time favorite Marvel titles that I have been collecting since I was a little kid.
Invincible Iron Man #8 launches the new direction for this title with Tony Stark now “wanted” by the U.S. government. I have little hope for this new direction of the Iron Man franchise, but hey, if it leads to something more original than recycling a story from twenty years ago like the Ezekial Stane story arc then I am all for this new direction for Iron Man.
However, I am going to have to go with Uncanny X-Men #505 as the Marvel comic book that I am least looking forward to reading. Ever since Fraction came aboard Uncanny X-Men with issue #500 the writing on this title taken an alarming and decidedly noticeable drop in terms of quality. Maybe Fraction can surprise me and crank out an entertaining read.
