Death Match 2009 between the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers came to an end. The results were as follows:

Chicago Cubs: 52% (65 votes)
LA Dodgers: 47% (59 votes)

So, with the end of Death Match 2009, I officially have a Major League Baseball team to root for. The Chicago Cubs. On the plus side, the Cubbies are a very old team that has been in existence since 1870. And the Cubbies certainly have a rich history. The Cubs play in one of the best ballparks in the Majors. I have been to Wrigley Field before and it is pretty damn cool. And it appears that the Cubbies are a pretty good team this year.

The downside? The Cubbies have not won a World Series since 1908. Really? Seriously? I am now rooting for a team who has gone over 100 years without a World Series title? Dios mio, this is not going to be easy being a Cubs fan. Anyway, thanks for voting in the poll and I will proudly cheer on my Cubs. Of course, it will probably be on their way to a heart crushing defeat. But, I will be cheering nonetheless.

All right, let’s talk comic books. We are getting a monster sized shipment of comic books to the Bunker this week. A total of 18 titles! And what a fantastic selection of titles as well. Both Marvel and DC are delivering several titles that should be fantastic reads. Boom and Image are both offering up two great titles in Jersey Gods and Irredeemable. All in all, this should be a fun batch of comic books to read.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I am giving Power Girl #1 a chance. I simply cannot resist any debut issues of a new title. Even though I have always been neutral on Power Girl’s character, I figured I would give this title a try. If anything, the artwork should be excellent since Amanda Conner is handling the art duties. I have loved Conner’s art ever since I first saw her work for Harris Comics on Vampirella.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Flash: Rebirth #2. I know many people had criticisms with the first issue. And to be sure, Flash: Rebirth #1 had some defects. However, I love Barry Allen and I am as excited about his return to the DCU as Conner Kent and Bart Allen fans have been over those characters’ respective returns to the DCU. I am curious to learn more about what Johns has in store for Barry in the modern DCU.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Superman: World of New Krypton #3. The story has been generic and uncreative. I hope that we begin to see more effort to do something actually interesting with the story in this title.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Marvel is trotting out a debut issue of a new title in New Mutants #1. I was never much of a fan of the original New Mutants. But, like I said, I like to give new titles a chance to hook me. So, I am curious to see if I have a big enough appetite for yet another mutant themed title from Marvel.

I am looking forward to Agents of Atlas #4. Jeff Parker continues to impress me with his work on this title. I love the roster for this team. This is such a neat collection of characters. Parker has managed to create a unique team title that has such a distinctive tone compared to Marvel’s other super-teams. I only wish that Carlo Pagulayan was still doing the artwork.

I am definitely excited to read Destroyer #2. I loved the debut issue for this title. I will admit up front that I am an unabashed fan of Robert Kirkman, so there was little chance that I would not enjoy this title. Destroyer is unique in that it centers on a senior citizen mystery man who can still kick some serious ass. I am sure that we will get plenty more adrenaline pumping action in Destroyer #2.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is War of Kings #3. I have enjoyed DnA’s work with Marvel’s cosmic characters. And War of Kings has been a solid big event set on a grand stage full of drama and action.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Invincible Iron Man #13. This title continues to be a total miss with me.

  1. “Dios mio, this is not going to be easy being a Cubs fan.”

It sounds like you have the basics down already. No one ever said it would be easy – just that it would be worth it.

Let me know if you have any questions.
