ABSOLUTE BATMAN #12

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Nick Dragotta
Colorist: Frank Martin
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Absolute Batman #12 teaches Bruce Wayne about the harsh reality of the Absolute Universe. This is something he is no stranger to. But unlike previous lessons these are learned by things that happen to those he close to rather than himself. It is an excellent way to drive home that the Absolute Universe is a place that does not favor the heroes. The fates of Waylon, Eddie, Harvey, and Ozzie drive that home as they are each placed on their iconic DCU paths in horrific fashion.
All That happened creates an aura of great concern for not just Bruce but also those around him as he clashes with Absolute Bane and other villains. If this is what happened to his inner circle what could be on the horizon for Martha Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, and Batman allies? This question looms even greater over every future issue of Absolute Batman.
ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #12

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Becca Carey
Absolute Wonder Woman #12 provided Diana her greatest test and she was able to overcome everything thrown at her. It is a testament to the journey this latest story arc placed Diana on that you felt how she was rewarded for her choices. Every action was a choice, whether it was a fight or the path she took to escape the never-ending maze.
Especially when compared to her other Absolute Universe heroes, Diana seems to be the one hero who is able to overcome all the odds. It has been unique to her and that has been driven home with how Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman execute this story. That all made the double hook ending we get at the end of Absolute Wonder Woman #12. Each final development in this issue set up massive storylines add to the mythos Wonder Woman and the Absolute Universe.
G.I. JOE #11

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Andrea Milana
Colorist: Lee Loughridge
Letterer: Rus Wooton
G.I. JOE #11 wrapped up the second full story arc of the series. It does so in way that strengthens the series on multiple levels. The top level is the bond that Baroness and Cover Girl built through their unexpected team-up. Even though they never worked together before they were able to ultimately defeat Major Bludd and Raptor. It is a credit to their individual skills and personalities that they found a way to build chemistry while fighting for their lives.
At the same time, Baroness and Cover Girl’s main story was also utilized to continue the development of several sub-plots. These sub-plots showed the depth there is when it comes to the ongoing war between JOE and Cobra. Both organizations don’t just have one another to worry about. There are things going on with both the JOEs and Cobra that shows there are more things going on behind the scenes. These behind the scenes’ actions set-up several storylines, some that could make way for more one-shot style stories.
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #8

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams
Artist: Fernando Pasarin and Oclair Albert
Colorist: Arif Prianto
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
Green Lantern Corps #8 emphasized how “Starbreaker Supremacy” is a big event-level story. More than anything, this chapter of the story was a visual showcase by Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, and Arif Prianto. Pasarin, Albert, and Prianto drive home the epic spectacle that “Starbreaker Supremacy” is. And really it doesn’t get cooler than seeing all the major Green Lantern characters riding the different Emotional Spectrum avatars in a clash against the Starbreaker Corp.
The giant spectacle all highlights how important this story is to what is going on with the greater DC Universe. Right now the DCU is in a state of flux, with DC K.O. right around the corner. The Green Lanterns finally finding a way to control the Emotional Spectrum again is a major moment. It can have larger ramifications as we head into 2026, complimenting what will happen in the upcoming big DC event.
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III #2

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Ryan Parrott
Artist: Raul Angulo
Colorist: Vincenzo Federici
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
There are very few, if any, things bigger to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise than the death of Splinter. No matter how many times that story has been told it will always hit. That is exactly what Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #2 leans in on Splinter’s death launches the main story forward along with creating several character-focused sub-plots.
The most immediate one is the greater credibility Splinter’s death bought Lord Zedd and Shredder. Both were already major threats. But seeing that they will cross the line against the Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles elevated things. That also helped make the response by the members of both hero teams something you paid closer attention to. It all creates greater intrigue into this third comic book crossover between the franchises.
STARSHIP GODZILLA #1

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Chris Gooch
Artist: Oliver Ono
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Godzilla is a franchise that certainly feels like everything has been done with it. That is where the Kai-Sei has stepped in to at least present twist that combines superhero and anime inspirations. to the franchise. That is where Starship Godzilla #1 really stood out. Right out the gate this new Godzilla series has elements of Guardians of the Galaxy and Cowboy Bebot.
For all its inspiration Starship Godzilla #1 does stand on its own. Specifically, the way Chris Gooch and Oliver Ono introduce us to the cast and greater Kai-Sei Universe is a ton of fun. There is so much character in every page of this comic book. That helps you feel like you are along for the experience rather than just having things explained to you. It creates an organic feel for what looks to be a major win for the Godzilla franchise.
STORM #12

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Murewa Ayodele
Artist: Mario Santoro
Colorist: Fer Siguentes-Sujo
Letterer: Travis Lanham
With Storm #12 Murewa Ayodele brings to a close the first act of his greater creative run concludes around Ororo Munroe’s character. The way that is done is as effective of a conclusion to a first act as you’ll find. The “Thunder War” story had a big event feel to it. A credit to everything that Ayodele built with Mario Santoro and other artists during these twelve issues.
The way “Thunder War” ends is very carefully crafted. There is a payoff given to what has been built at Ororo Munroe’s status as an Omega-level mutant has ascended to a level of Phoenix and Thor. That was all done in a way you fully buy into where things could go with the Eternal Storm Saga. It helps that the supporting cast all have complimentary roles that build interest in the greater direction. A combination of all these things help make Storm #12 a very satisfying conclusion to this Storm series volume.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #11

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Juan Ferreyra
Letterer: Shawn Lee
As the penultimate issue of their creative run Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra do not disappoint with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11. It is not just the things they payoff from what they built that makes this issue phenomenal. It is how they end up bringing in elements from Tom Waltz, Kevin Eastman, and Sophie Campbell’s runs that makes everything better. The way they implement things from their predecessors is done in an organic way that does not feel like you need to know about it. But if you do the story is even better.
This is exemplified by the roles April O’Neil and Karai play in this issue. They are key in making the Ninja Turtles ultimately being proven to be NYC’s true heroes so rewarding. This is what IDW’s TMNT comics have been building towards. That then in turn kicks off a great action set piece for not just the Ninja Turtles but April to also prove her fighting skills. It leads well into Karai’s role in escalating things helping set-up Aaron and Ferreyra’s ending and what could come next.
TRANSFORMERS #24

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist: Jorge Corona
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Letterer: Rus Wooton
To say that Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, and Mike Spicer creative runs will be legendary would be an understatement. What they did with the first 24 issues of the Energon Universe’s Transformers series was truly special. And they hold nothing back with the finale of their creative run in Transformers #24.
There is an incredible sense of pays off everything that has been built over the course of this creative run and then some. The opening with Optimus Prime and Megatron brawling exemplifies the payoff this is for fans of this series. They put over why this eternal rivalry is great. Just as all seems lost there is a moment that hope returns that proves why the Autobots will always overcome all the odds. The ending deserves a standing ovation for how phenomenal this creative run was from start to finish.
THE VISION & THE SCARLET WITCH #5

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Jacopo Camagni
Colorist: Ruth Redmond
Letterer: Travis Lanham
The Vision & The Scarlet Witch #5 serves multiple purposes. On the top level it is the conclusion of this mini-series. It is also the ending of this chapter of Steve Orlando’s greater Scarlet Witch run. Finally, and possibly most importantly, it sets the stage for what Scarlet Witch’s role will possibly be in the Marvel Universe in 2026.
First and foremost, this ending provides plenty of moments that fans of the Vision and Scarlet Witch relationship will enjoy. The five pages before the final page in particular are a giant fan service for fans. At the same time, the battle against Gargantos and Grim Reaper ultimately show that Scarlet Witch should be seen as a strong contender for the next Sorcerer Supreme. All of that while Camagni delivers some stunning, vibrant artwork.
