HIGHLIGHTS OF G.I. JOE #10
Major Bludd & Raptor Are Villains You Love To Hate
The best antagonists are the ones that fully lean into their role in the story. And what makes a great villain are those that thrive in being pure evil that you love to hate them. That is where Major Bludd and Raptor play such great antagonists for this story. They don’t have some grand vision that what they are doing is right. They know they are the villains and love the role they play. That is heavily played up here, especially for Major Bludd. All of Major Bludd’s dialogue in G.I. JOE #10 makes you want to see someone knock him out at the very least.
Baroness & Cover Girl Dynamic More Than Meets The Eye
To say Baroness and Cover Girl were on good terms when this story arc started would be an understatement. Joshua Williamson has done a great job at playing into how Baroness’ character being connected to Cobra in the G.I. JOE franchise. That works well into how quickly Baroness and Cover Girl break into a fight. It is the only option that Major Bludd gives them. That also helps to spotlight the dynamic between Baroness and Cover Girl through a fight. The way Williamson and Andrea Milana do this is a great example of how writing and artwork work together to elevate the story.
Clutch & Hound Connection
Clutch and Hound are the G.I. JOE and Transformers’ characters that you didn’t think would be paired up. But Williamson shows exactly why these two characters make a great pairing. Even though they haven’t spent much time together there is a strong friendship felt in their dynamic. It is something that the G.I. JOE series has needed as we have way to many examples of tension between various characters.
Drama Within Cobra & JOE’s Ranks
Speaking of tension, that continues to be a major theme for both the JOEs and Cobra side. The battle between the JOEs and Cobra is already intense. But there are greater complexities to this because of the inner turmoil in each organization. This tension is something we see G.I. JOE #10 tap into in multiple ways. In the process we see several sub-plots progress in ways that create even more questions on the motivations of various characters.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK IN G.I. JOE #10
Nothing!
FINAL THOUGHTS
G.I. JOE #10 is an excellent continuation of the spotlight Baroness and Cover Girl are getting. Major Bludd and Raptor thrive in their roles as villains that make you love to hate them and cheer for Baroness and Cover Girl. Adding in the progression of various series sub-plots led to another fantastic chapter in the Energon Universe.
