Top Takeaways From Marvel Comics August 2025 Solicitations

Marvel Comics August 2025 comic book solicitations are here! As August continues the focus on the impact the One World Under Doom and Imperial events are having on the Marvel Universe we are getting several high-profile relaunches. Those relaunches are led by the second act of Al Ewing’s Thor kicking off with a new status quo for the God of Thunder. Let’s take a look at the biggest takeaways from Marvel Comics August 2025 solicitations.

THOR THE GOD AMONG US

Al Ewing will be concluding the first act of his Thor creative run with July’s Immortal Thor #25. That issue will mark the death of the current Immortal All-Father of Asgard title that Thor has been rocking since Jason Aaron’s creative run. The way Ewing’s first act ends will lead to Thor becoming a God that now walks around the humans of Earth.

This isn’t just the case of Thor being a superhero and Avenger on Earth. Based on the solicitation for Thor #1 we may actually see Thor get a new human identity like when he was once Donald Blake. If that is the case it would be a massive change as its been several decades since Thor has had a dual identity. Thor has been firmly in the God of Thunder role that eventually led to recent years of him taking over as the All-Father of Asgard.

Thor’s status quo will put the question of the greater Asgard set of characters roles at Marvel into play. Especially considering that we have a reset to the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. The Asgardians have been so part of the cosmic corner that it wouldn’t be surprising if Lady Sif and others appeared there if they aren’t appearing at the beginning of the second act of Ewing’s Thor run.

BLACK CAT GOES SOLO AGAIN

It’s been a few years since Black Cat had her own solo series. Even though that has been the case Marvel has made sure Black Cat has been a constant presence at Marvel. Whether its being part of other Spider-Man titles, a member of the Avengers, or having tie-ins to events, Marvel has continued to invest in Black Cat as a star in their universe.

That investment is shown as August will see Black Cat get a new ongoing series with G. Willow Wilson and Gleb Melnikov given reigns for the series. Wilson has built a strong library of delivering comics readers want. Whether it was introducing the world to Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel or the surprise success of Poison Ivy, Wilson has become a really good comic book creator.

The angle being taken with this new Black Cat series will be interesting to see how it will work. What made the previous Black Cat ongoing series standout is that they weren’t superhero comics. The direction taken was into the master thief Black Cat was with her own Ocean’s Eleven-type crew. Leaning into Black Cat being a superhero will be something different for her character. Though that brings to question how the series will standout when just about every comic book Marvel is publishing is a superhero comic book.

ALL-NEW SPIDER-GWEN RELAUNCH

Whether true or not, a year wouldn’t be complete with a brand new Spider-Gwen ongoing series launched. It has felt that since concluding her first ongoing series, which lasted 34 issues, Spider-Gwen has struggled to have her comics barely get past a year of a lifespan. There is no doubt that Spider-Gwen is a popular character. While she may be the third most popular character in the Spider-Man Family her comics aren’t the consistent sellers that Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ comics are monthly.

Which brings us to the All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider series that will be launching in August. This needs to be the final chance for the character’s current direction. It is the third series set with the sales pitch involving “Spider-Gwen is making Earth-616 her permanent home.” It has been the direction that Marvel editorial has made the creative teams for Spider-Gwen to sell since 2019. That is six years trying and failing to transition Spider-Gwen as an Earth-616 character.

Now to give the creative team some credit, Stephanie Phillips showed throughout the fifteen-issue run on Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider she knows how to write the character. The series just got lost trying to tell a long-term story with Black Tarantula and then with Loki. Phillips needs to take the confidence in writing Spider-Gwen and just tell good, quick stories. Show why Spider-Gwen is a great superhero before getting into a big six to nine issue story arc.

EMPEROR DOCTOR DOOM DIRECT IMPACT ON FANTASTIC FOUR & CAPTAIN AMERICA

August will officially kick off the third act of the One World Under Doom event that has dominated 2015. With that One World Under Doom #6 in August will set the tone for how we can expect Marvel to close out their 2025. Even if it leads to Doctor Doom not being Emperor of the World anymore, the impact will be wide and far. Something that One World Under Doom #6 teases.

The hint at the impact One World Under Doom will have on the Marvel Universe can already be seen with the relaunched Fantastic Four and Captain America titles. It isn’t a coincidence that these two relaunched titles are heavily being influenced by Doctor Doom.

The question is if both titles are set during the current events of One World Under Doom or are taking place at some other point in time. The way Fantastic Four #2 and Captain America #2’s solicitation are phrased it does seem they are set in the future. Especially since they don’t feature One World Under Doom tie-in banners even with Doctor Doom’s direct involvement. That certainly makes Fantastic Four and Captain America titles to watch in importance to the rest of the Marvel Universe.

IMPERIAL WAR GIVES SHE-HULK & BLACK PANTHER NEW STATUS QUOS

As Jonathan Hickman gets into the second half of the Imperial event we will start to see what the future holds for the Marvel cosmic corner. That comes in the form of both Black Panther and She-Hulk getting Imperial tie-in one-shots in August. It is not just by random that both these characters were chosen. These two are current Avengers who appear destined to be a major part of the Marvel cosmic side of things post-Imperial.

Transitioning Earth-based heroes to the greater corners of the Marvel Universe is a smart call. It can honestly be said that just about everything has been done when it comes to characters like Black Panther and She-Hulk. Both are in need of a reset. Which could be said by many Avengers related characters that could use the chance to expand their scope, coughCaptain Marvelcough.

Black Panther and She-Hulk being chosen for one-shots also plays into Hickman’s greater Marvel cosmic plans. Just like he did with the new Ultimate Universe, Hickman is taking the approach of bringing other creators in to help with the Marvel cosmic side. Writing both one-shots along with Victor Lavelle and Stephanie Phillips will help these creators if they are tapped for future cosmic titles from Marvel. They’ll be able to get a full experience of what Hickman’s vision is so that Hickman does not have to write every title. That is something that worked for the Ultimate Universe and hopefully works for the future Marvel cosmic titles.

PETER PARKER & MARY JANE WATSON HAVING LONG OVERDUE TALK

The 2025 Free Comic Book Day comic for Spider-Man hinted at a crossover with Venom and Carnage in the future. This upcoming crossover will get even bigger attention than normal as Mary Jane Watson is the current host for Venom. That completely changes what the dynamic Peter Parker will have with his Venom counterpart.

August’s Amazing Spider-Man #9 will set the groundwork for what the crossover between Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage will be. That is thanks to the issue featuring the long-awaited reunion between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. The way Amazing Spider-Man #9’s solicitation is phrased it will be the issue where Peter will learn about MJ being the new Venom host. That development will certainly change what their dynamic will be moving forward.

Additionally, it looks like Peter is in line for a power upgrade in the future. In the aftermath of the battle with Hellgate it looks like Spider-Man will be getting stronger. This is something that Joe Kelly teased in the first issue of the relaunched Amazing Spider-Man title. Kelly made it a point to define the current upper limits of Peter’s powers. Dong this was to make how much stronger Peter gets standout even more.

NEW CHALLENGERS DEBUT IN THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE

Marvel Comics August 2025 Solicitations: Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3

As we get deeper into the second year of the new Ultimate Universe there are still plenty of new characters to make their debut. We see that with Archangel debuting in Ultimate Wolverine #8 and Shang-Chi debuting in The Ultimates #15. These new character debuts plays into how we are seeing both the heroes and villains of the Ultimate Universe continuing to respond to one another. Neither side is waiting silently as The Maker’s return nears.

This also makes the developments in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3 notable as the Ultimate X-Men get integrated into things. Thus far the Ultimate X-Men have felt like they are living in their own corner separate from all the other Ultimate Universe titles that have some connection. The Ultimate X-Men teaming up with Miles Morales’ Spider-Man makes them both important as they deal with The Maker’s Council member: the Silver Samurai.

Miles isn’t the only Ultimate Spider-Man having interesting meetings in August. Ultimate Spider-Man #20 appears to be where Peter Parker and Mary Jane will have their big reunion with Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn. With what we learned about how Gwen and Harry are operating in the shadows this new double date will likely not go as well as their first one did.

JEPH LOEB RETURNS FOR X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE

Jeph Loeb is continuing his trend of revisiting stories he wrote decades ago. It certainly has been his go to since getting back into comic book writing on a regular basis. And it is clear Loeb is at a point in his life that he isn’t looking to start fresh and create something from the ground up. We see that with how he is going to be going back to the Age of Apocalypse story he was one of the writers for.

That return to the AoA timeline comes in the form of X-Men of Apocalypse: Alpha. Just like how Batman: H2Sh was marketed, X-Men of Apocalypse: Alpha is promoting itself as changing the X-Men forever. That is certainly a big statement to make given all the big changes that have gone on with the X-Men so far. It is not a mark that will be tough to hit given all the success the X-Men franchise has been having the last five years.

Based on the cover for X-Men of Apocalypse: Alpha the vibe isn’t giving “changing the X-Men FOREVER!” Rather, this looks like Loeb will be writing an Exiles-like series with a team of X-Men from the Age of Apocalypse era. Whatever the case is, Loeb better be up for the challenge because the X-Men franchise is at one of its strongest periods right now. So he will have a lot of competition to be able to reach the promised impact.

UNCLE SCROOGE IS EARTH’S MIGHTIEST DUCK

Marvel is getting a chance to further play in the Disney vault of properties. As Marvel Comics August solicitations revealed, we are getting a new Uncle Scrooge mini-series. This is a big deal given that Disney has shown they are willing to license out their franchises to other comic book publishers. Even after they purchased Marvel it was something they continued to do.

So Marvel publishing Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck is a big deal. Marvel knows that as they tapped Jason Aaron as the writer and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Mahmud Asrar, Ciro Cangialosi and other of their artists to work on the series. Assigning big time talent to the series will help sell to the Marvel audience while also tapping into the Disney audience.
