ABSOLUTE BATMAN #14
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Nick Dragotta
Colorist: Frank Martin
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta knock it out of the park with the conclusion of Absolute Batman’s “Abomination” story arc. They do this by playing with our expectations of what is really happening based on everything that happened leading up to this conclusion. Until the very end of the fight with Absolute Bane you aren’t sure what exactly how far Batman’s is willing to go to win. That is an idea that this entire issue pushes that adds an extra layer of tension for the entire issue.
Overall Rating: 9.5 Night Girls out of 10
ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #14
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Matias Bergara
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Becca Carey
This two-part “The Price” story arc drives home how no matter how strong a hero is in the Absolute Universe the constant challenges they face weigh heavy on them. That is something that is really the highlight for Absolute Wonder Woman #14 as we see Diana pushed to her limit. The emphasis on everything Diana has gone through building on one another does a lot for the ultimate result of this story arc.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
BLACK CAT #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: G. Willow Wilson
Artist: Gleb Melnikov
Colorist: Brian Reber
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Black Cat is a character that has chemistry with everyone she shares screen time with. Black Cat #4 shows that with her various back and forth with villains, allies, and other surprise character appearance. That chemistry is such a strength that is luckily overshadows some of the pacing issues where there are things done out of convenience to get Black Cat onto the next thing. Fixing these pacing issues will help the long-term future for this series that continues to show it has all the elements to be one of Marvel’s best.
Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10
DC K.O. #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Scott Snyder (Main Story); Joshua Williamson (Interlude)
Artists: Javi Fernandez (Main Story); Xermanico (Interlude)
Colorist: Alejandro Sanchez
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
DC K.O. #2 certainly delivers on showcasing how chaotic the King Omega Tournament is. Every participant involved made for a reading experience where you were wondering how quickly things could turn when one of the most powerful DC Universe items was claimed. That said, this does not sell the “requirement” to add 8 comics to your pull list to read the Sweet 16 round of this tournament in December. A big reason for that is the lack of impact of what happens to the 16 that we lost in this tournament. If that was sold better maybe there would be more of a consideration to pick up all the December tie-ins. But that’s why it’s good to have something like DC Universe Infinite to be able to wait until DC K.O. #3 releases. Click here to read the full review.
Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10
GREEN LANTERN #29
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jeremy Adams
Artist: Carmine Di Giandomenico
Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
Green Lantern #29 is a great example of a solid, fun comic book. The team-up between Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen does a lot to show the chemistry these two share with one another. They balance each other both as heroes and friends in a way that only they can when they’re together. Their chemistry helps to push forward Hal’s current journey as he is figuring out what the changes in the Book of Oa mean for his destiny. Doing that while showing Green Lantern and Green Arrow fighting a giant mech made this a fun comic to read.
Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10
IMMORTAL LEGEND BATMAN #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom
Artists: Erica D’Urso and Dan Mora
Colorists: Igor Monti and Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Becca Carey
Going with showing the Immortal Legend Batman having different adventures in every issue has given this series an episodic tone to its pacing. That has helped it standout from the normal DC Comics title and fits the Super Sentai-inspiration for this series. It has certainly benefitted developing this Bruce Wayne voice to have all the iconic aspects of the character but be distinctly different. That is seen with his battle with the Immortal Legend Batman version of Poison Ivy in this issue. Finally having Immortal Legend Nightwing and Robin interact with Batman was the boost this series needed to generate more excitement for the overarching storyline of this series.
Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10
