AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #68
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Justina Ireland
Artist: Andrea Broccardo
Inker: Scott Hanna
Colorist: Marcio Menyz
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Amazing Spider-Man #68 has the elements to be a compelling chapter in “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” story arc. Unfortunately even those compelling elements, such as Peter Parker sacrificing his remaining lives to save those dear to him, they don’t negate the things that continue to drag down the overall story. The inclusion of the X-Men does not help any as they just represent how this storyline is being stretched beyond its lifespan. With only two chapters left the only hope there is that the ending will at least stick the landing of this long jump.

G.I. JOE #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Tom Reilly
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Rus Wooton
G.I. JOE #4 further solidifies this series as one of the best comic books on the market right now. Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire really knock it out of the park with another tension filled comic book as the JOEs battle against Cobra grows more desperate. It cannot be said enough that this is a comic book that is must-read. Click here to read full review.

NIGHTWING #123
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Dan Watters
Artist: Dexter Soy
Colorist: Veronica Gandini
Letterer: Wes Abbott
With every passing issue Dan Watters and Dexter Soy are getting better at how to develop Dick Grayson’s character and push him forward. Nightwing #123 is a great example of the creative progress as Dick Grayson’s heroic nature shines through in the midst of the rise of the Splicers. The turns taken continue to elevate the stakes for the soul of Bludhaven. Which certainly helps the more obvious angles taken with Olivia Pearce forcing Melinda Grayson-Lin’s hand during her re-election bid. Hopefully there is a swerve with this part of to help match the quality seen with the rest of the story.
Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10
POWER RANGERS PRIME #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Melissa Flores
Artist: Michael YG
Colorist: Fabi Marques
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Power Rangers #4 is a strong start to the second act of this series. Lauren Shiba’s decision to team-up with Rita Repulsa and become the Prime Red Ranger is treated as the game changer it needed to be. This decision along with what we learn about the Eltarians side of the plot drives up the interest in what happens next. Click here to read full review.

STORM #5
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Murewa Ayodele
Artist: Lucas Werneck
Colorist: Alex Guimaraes
Letterer: Travis Lanham
It is so incredibly impressive how Murewa Ayodele and Lucas Werneck are elevating Storm’s character to become a cosmic character. They are doing it in a way that is a natural next step for the character rather than forcing her into the role. The natural progression to having her at this level is on full display how Storm #5 tackles the “Eternal Storm” storyline so that it is not overshadowed by this being a tie-in to the One World Under Doom event. It certainly helps that Werneck deliver some of his best artwork in this issue. Storm #5 is easily one of the best-looking comic books that released this week.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
TITANS #20
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: John Layman
Artist: Pete Woods
Letterer: Wes Abbott
Something we see happen quite a bit in team titles is a creative team leaning into specific members of a superhero team being the lead characters. Even when it is clear who the favorites of a writer is the best team books mask that by making sure other members get development time through sub-plots. Unfortunately John Layman has fallen into the trap of relying on Raven as the focal point that it impacts the development of the other Titans. That is seen with how Layman uses Raven to get us back into the Donna Troy and Arsenal romance that is a major step back, especially for Donna as she establishes her as the Titans leader. This leads to the whole angle with Raven not being in control of her powers already losing steam and Titans losing their momentum as a team that should be on the same level as the Justice League.

ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Christopher Condon
Artist: Alessandro Cappuccio
Colorist: Bryan Valenza
Letterer: Cory Petit
Ultimate Wolverine #2 drives home that Logan’s Winter Soldier is the Terminator of the Ultimate Universe. While the bigger picture story isn’t progressed very much, we at least get solid character development for Logan, Colossus, and Magik. The artwork by Alessandro Cappuccio really does a lot of heavy lifting with the subtle things done in ways characters emote throughout this issue. That is enough to keep interest in where things are headed. Click here to read full review.

UNCANNY X-MEN #10
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist: Andrei Bressan
Colorist: Matthew Wilson
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Uncanny X-Men #10 further solidifies this series as one of Marvel’s constants. Every month Gail Simone nails the presentation of the Uncanny X-Men team, this time with strong artwork from new artist collaborator Andrei Bressan. Every single member of the team from the classic members to the new class is given time to develop their characters. Having such efficiency makes the battle against the Wolfpack Sentinels even more impactful. There are stakes because we are made to care about these characters. This in turn make you look forward to what happens next in this series.

ZATANNA #1

Zatanna #1 is an incredibly imaginative debut issue. Jamal Campbell created an experience that is a pure joy to read.
