ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #9
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artists: Rafa Sandoval and Fico Ossio
Colorist: Ulises Arreola
Letterer: Becca Carey
From the moment you open Absolute Superman #9 with the Omega Men providing Kal-El life-saving surgery to the very end the stakes are high. With high stakes running throughout this comic book the tensions are just as high. Jason Aaron does such a great job using Kal-El as a vehicle to grow the mythology of the Absolute Universe. By doing so it elevates the importance of the decisions Kal-El has to make as he spends the entire issue with the Omega Men. This interaction works well with the time we do spend with Ra’s Al Ghul, as the leader of Lazarus is firmly established as an end boss for this series.

FANTASTIC FOUR #1
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Ryan North
Artist: Humberto Ramos
Inker: Victor Olazaba
Colorist: Edgar Delgado
Letterer: Travis Lanham
They say that timing is everything. That is most certainly the case with Fantastic Four #1. This relaunch was timed with Marvel’s First Family’s MCU debut but by trying to hit that mark they land in the middle of the One World Under Doom event. The problem with relaunching during Marvel’s latest big event is one that Fantastic Four #1 can’t overcome. To Ryan North’s credit, he at least continues to show he knows how to capture the voice of each Fantastic Four member. The set-up that’s been put into place will allow this story to stand on its own moving forward. It is just unfortunate that the timing couldn’t have worked out better for this relaunch.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #6
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams
Artist: Amancay Nahuelpan
Colorist: Arif Prianto
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
Green Lantern Corps #6 is what this series needs to be about. This series has been quick at times to lose its way to focus just on one or two Green Lanterns. At its best, Green Lantern Corps as a series is about what is going on in multiple parts of the DC Universe. That means featuring multiple individuals and groups in the Green Lantern Corps. We already see how helpful that is with the differences in chemistry shown by Sinestro, Jessica Cruz, Jo Mullein, John Stewart, Keli, amd Vexarr’u. That in turn allows the scope of the multiple stories going on to feel bigger.
Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10
TRANSFORMERS #22
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist: Jorge Corona
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Transformers #22 continues the excellence of this series. This issue does its job to set the stage for even bigger things to happen in upcoming issues. Best thing about that, is every character has a sense of importance to them in the story. The Autobots, Decepticons, and humans all have a part to play. It creates a lot of excitement for what is to come. Click here to read the full review.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: INCURSION #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar
Artist: Jonas Scharf
Colorist: Edgar Delgado
Letterer: Cory Petit
Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #2 fails to meet the moment that it was created to have. There is a dramatic impact that is severely lacking from Miles Morales first visit to the new Ultimate Universe. That missing element is largely because of the sense of urgency in Miles and his little sister’s presence not being as impactful as one would think. The story feels like it is moving in slow motion. That is a combination of both the writing and artwork not hitting in the way you expect from a possible game-changing situation, which Miles and his sister’s presence should be.
Overall Rating: 3.5 Night Girls out of 10
UNCANNY X-MEN #17
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist: Luciano Vecchio
Colorist: Rachelle Rosenberg
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Gail Simone is really in her bag as Uncanny X-Men #17 marks the start the second year of this series. Right away the threat establish plays into the greater X-Men direction and is done so in a way that brings real-world elements in a fascinating way. All that while most importantly nailing the strong chemistry between the veteran and new X-Men this series has been developing. Luciano Vecchio is a great match for what Simone is writing as it gets into the horror elements of the new threat the Uncanny X-Men will be facing in this story arc.
