Absolute Batman #12 does an incredible job at showing the ramifications of Bruce Wayne’s actions as the Dark Knight. BLOOD & THUNDER #5
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Benito Cereno
Artist: E.J. Su
Colorist: Msassyk
Letterer: Rus Wooton
What a difference it makes to have the title characters in their own series. The previous issue of Blood & Thunder struggled to connect because of the series’ leads absence. Having Akeldama Bledsoe, aka Blood, get involved in the greater plot makes all the difference to add a sense of importance to the story.
Most importantly, Blood’s presence makes the villain of the story come across as a bigger threat. Going with a murder mystery route also allows us to see a focus on Blood’s detective skills be spotlighted. We already know she is a badass mercenary. But here we see her detective side spotlighted. In doing so the story is able to build in ways you want to find out where things go next.

GODZILLA #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Tim Seeley
Artist: Nikola Cizmesija
Colorist: Gloria Martinelli
Letterer: Nathan Widick
Tim Seeley and Nikola Cizmesija continue the momentum created the by debut issue with a very good follow-up. There are a lot of Kaiju No. 8 vibes that are given with how people in this Kai-Sei era operate. The world has a very lived in feel rather than simply the world starting these events when picking up this comic book.
Having a lived in feel benefits the story Godzilla #2 with how invested you are in what the people of this world are doing. The added twist of people with powers and advance Kaiju-based tech adds to the feeling of new and exciting to the Godzilla franchise. At the same time, the imposing nature of Godzilla is never lost, rather it is amplified by the Kai-Sei era setting.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #8
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams
Artist: Fernando Pasarin and Oclair Albert
Colorist: Arif Prianto
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
Green Lantern Corps #8 continues to deliver on the “Starbreaker Supremacy” being a big event. More than anything, this chapter of the story was a visual showcase by Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, and Arif Prianto. Pasarin, Albert, and Prianto do an excellent job at portraying what a battle between the Emotional spectrum and the colorless would be. There is so much depth given to the clash that makes the Lantern Corps battle against the Starbreakers unique.
The visual delight that Green Lantern Corps #8 emphasizes how “Starbreaker Supremacy” is an event for the fate of the DC Universe. There is a lot at stake that make the personal moments we get sprinkled in throughout be even more impactful. It all makes the Green Lantern franchise a must-read part of DC Comics publishing line.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #7
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Ryan North
Artist: R.B. Silva
Colorist: David Curiel
Letterer: Travis Lanham
Ryan North and R.B. Silva certainly know how to deliver a spectacle. After Doctor Doom’s big secret was revealed to the world the brutal dictator side of the character was now out in the open. With his secret out the heroes unintentionally took the handcuffs off Doctor Doom. That led to the Emperor of Earth showed why he is the most dangerous person on the planet.
With Doctor Doom free to do everything publicly the stage was set for One World Under Doom #8 to be one big battle. The scale of the battle gets over how big of a threat Doctor Doom is. You believe that he is able to take on all the major Marvel heroes alone. The battle is made even bigger by the risk Reed Richards takes. The results of that speak to Doom and Reed’s rivalry. It all sets up greater intrigue around how the heroes can hope to stop Doctor Doom’s rule.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
POWER RANGERS PRIME #10
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Melissa Flores
Artist: Simona Di Gianfelice
Colorist: Joana Lafuente
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
The first two-thirds of Power Rangers Prime #10 is spent building up Junmor, the Black Ranger Prime and son of Admiral Janessa of the Guardians of Eltar. For as much solid character work Melissa Flores does this beginning portion of the issue comes across as a back-up story. It doesn’t have that “main story” feel to it. That is made even more apparent with how the last third of Power Rangers Prime #10 does a great job progressing the story and spotlighting the Eltarians true nature.
There is to much potential in this series for us to be this late in the game of playing catch-up. By doing so Flores makes us forget about most of the cast. Hopefully the final two issues of this arc focus on the strengths rather than playing catch-up.
Overall Rating: 5.5 Night Girls out of 10
TRANSFORMERS #24
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist: Jorge Corona
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, and Mike Spicer hold nothing back with the finale of their creative run. Transformers #24 pays off everything that has been built over the course of this creative run and then some.
Opening with a brutal showdown between Optimus Prime and Megatron was fantastic. Transformers #24 is a great example of their eternal rivalry. Megatron shows why he is pure evil with his actions. The surprise of this issue drives home Megatron being the ultimate villain. It all leads to even more hype moments with how the Autobots turn things around. By the end we are left satisfied by how Johnson, Corona, and Spicer wrap up there run and left with plenty for Robert Kirkman and Dan Mora to explore in the future.
Overall Rating: 10 Night Girls out of 10
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: INCURSION #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar
Artist: Jonas Scharf
Colorist: Erick Arciniega
Letterer: Cory Petit
Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #4 does nothing to fix the overall problems this series is having. The saving grace for the story is the chemistry Miles Morales and Mei Igarashi have built with each other. Without that this series would be a flop because of how predictable the story pacing has become. Click here to read the full review.

ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #9
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Chris Condon
Artist: Alessandro Cappuccio
Colorist: Bryan Valenza
Letterer: Cory Petit
The sense of discovery is one of the greatest strengths of this Ultimate Universe. There is so much still unknown of how The Maker shaped this Ultimate Universe in his vision. Ultimate Wolverine #9 highlights this with reveals in the middle of the story that cause you as the fan to stop to check what you realize what was revealed.
The reveals in Ultimate Wolverine #9 are handled in a way that does not get in the way of the story’s momentum. Everything is a natural part of how The Opposition is taking the fight to the Rulers of the Eurasian Republic and The Maker’s Council. Credit to Alessandro Cappuccio for making the Ultimate Sentinels have a unique design for this universe that amplifies the obstacles Wolverine and The Opposition face.
