First let me say that if this damn heat wave doesn’t end soon, I might go insane. You know once the seven consecutive days in the 100’s hit that my air conditioner would die. And sure enough it did. I sweat just lying still on my bed with no clothes on at all. And a man cannot lounge on his throne to drop a deuce while reading a double sized issue of Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes without air conditioning to cool him down. (Sorry about that. That was probably too much information, huh?)

In fact, it has gotten so stifling hot and oppressive in my house that even my sweat has sweat. I cannot wait for the slacker air conditioner repair company that I hired to finally do their job and get my house colder than Ice’s panties. (Dios mio, that was just totally crass of me. I would like to immediately offer an apology to all the ladies, if there are any that follow The Revolution, who had to put up with my knuckle dragging fraternity boy comment. I will try better next time.)

All right, enough of my bitching and moaning, let’s check out the comic books for this week. It appears that we have a nice normal sized shipment of comic books headed to the Bunker this week with a total of 13 titles. This week’s shipment of comic books is pretty even between DC and Marvel.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Action Comics #866 kicks off the new story arc involving Brainiac who is one of my favorite Superman villains. I am sure that this is going to be an entertaining story arc.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Booster Gold #10. This issue is the culmination of the story that Johns and Katz have been weaving since issue #1. I’m definitely pulling for my boy Ted Kord to survive this story arc.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? This is an easy one. Titans #3. Only Winick could be handed the keys to a title that boasts the greatest Teen Titan members of all-time and still screw the pooch with the story. And the preview teaser for Titans #3 smacks of vintage Judd Winick. From the DC website “Random hook-ups, internal fighting, envy…what’s going on with Nightwing, Starfire, Flash, Beast Boy, Raven, Donna and Red Arrow? Can this team get their act together before their mysterious foes reveal themselves?” Urrp. Pardon me. I just threw up a little bit into my mouth.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? We have several interesting titles headed our way from the House of Ideas. Obviously, I am continuing to celebrate the summer of Iron Man as I eagerly await Iron Man: Legacy of Doom #3. It has been a real blast to read an Iron Man comic book penned by the classic Iron Man creative team of Michelinie and Layton. I wonder if Marvel might let Michelinie and Layton take over Iron Man: Director of SHIELD? Man, that is a total pipedream, but it is about the only creative team that could ease my pain of seeing the Knaufs leave that title.

I am certainly looking forward to Eternals #1. Not because I am a fan of the Eternals, because I am most assuredly not. Nope, it is because I’m a fan of the Knaufs. I first became a fan of their work with HBO’s Carnivale and they have not let me down since. I figure that if anyone can get me to dig the Eternals it would probably be the Knaufs. I only wish that they had gotten a different artist for this title. Acuna’s style of art is incredibly stylized and is a real acquired taste. I don’t know if I can handle too much of his artwork.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Newuniversal: Shockfront #2. Ellis did a fantastic job with the last issue and immediately hooked me into the strange world of newuniversal. This title satisfies my desire for substantial and intricate reads.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Amazing Spider-Man #562. This title continues to be a total miss with me. I am beginning to give up hope that I am ever going to enjoy reading about my beloved Web-head anytime in the near future.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. well, it just snowed here in wyoming so you can go f@(^ yourself. but seriously. what is it like to be hot.

  2. Personally, I hope I am able to read the new issue of the Legion of Superheroes in the 31st Century: I love what I’ve seen of the cartoon so far and, well… Bouncing Boy and Trips on their second date in the Johnny DC universe! I’d fall for the issue if only for that (I’m such a sentimental!)
