The Revolution is feeling rather pretty today. Why? Well, we just came across a survey done by Travel & Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News about which cities in America have the most unattractive people and which cities in America have the most attractive people. In first place with the most attractive people was my hometown of Miami. It made me a bit homesick for all the insanely hot Latinas back home. Especially since where I currently live has a pretty ugly looking population. Pickings are slim, muchachos.

Anyway, it looks like after The Revolution enjoyed a nice off-week last Wednesday, that a full slate of titles is headed to the Bunker tomorrow. Back to work for my lazy ass, huh? We are getting a total of 16 titles tomorrow! That is just too many. This week is definitely DC heavy and both publishers have some gems coming out tomorrow.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Countdown #27 is beginning to pick up steam as we have been getting consistently good reads over the past month. The story should continue to increase in intensity as we get closer to the big finish.

Green Lantern Corps #17 should provide us with plenty of Lanterns kicking ass on Sinestro Corps members. Anything involving the Sinestro War is definitely going to be on my must read list.

Superman #669 hasn’t been that hot of a read lately, but Busiek shows signs of picking up the slack with this new story arc dealing with the third mysterious Kryptonian on Earth. I’m certainly interested to learn more about this new Kryptonian.

But, the issue that I am looking forward to the most this week is Teen Titans #52. I was so impressed with Sean McKeever’s debut issue on this title last month. It was a fantastic read. McKeever has a great sense of the various characters and delivered a quick paced and exciting read.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? It comes down to Action Comics #857, Flash #233 or Robin #167. Robin continues to be nothing more than a decidedly average read. Action Comics has been surprisingly disappointing over the past several issues dealing with the Bizarro World story arc. Initially, I thought I would enjoy the return of Bizarro World and all the Bizarros. But, instead, I haven’t been able to get into this story arc at all. I find it to be a rather plodding story with not much of a purpose. And after a while, I begin to absolutely hate the way all the Bizarros talk.

But, the issue that I’m least looking forward to reading this week is Flash #233. And that is an absolute stunner to me. I never thought I would be nominating Flash for this dubious distinction. Especially considering how overjoyed I was when I heard Wally would be reclaiming his title from Bart. And that the new writer for the series would be none other than Mark Waid who did such an excellent job on the Flash during his first tour of duty.

Unfortunately, Waid has given us a story more along the lines of The Incredibles than the Flash. The current story arc is totally un-engaging and generic. I guess in Waid’s case you really can’t go home again. And to make matter worse, Acuna’s artwork is a terrible fit for the Flash.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Well, there are several quality titles from Marvel this week. Thunderbolts is a new addition to my pull list and I’m enjoying the story so far. Moon Knight was a white hot read as Huston made Moon Knight one of the best titles on the market. However, the long gap between issue #12 and issue #13 and the fact that David Finch stopped doing the art a couple of issues ago has killed some of my enthusiasm over Moon Knight.

Ultimate Spider-Man is normally a fantastic read. Since 2000, no title has been as consistently good each and every month as Ultimate Spider-Man. Unfortunately, not everything lasts forever and every empire in history eventually falls. So too has Ultimate Spider-Man. We have gotten several issues in a row that have been pretty average reads.

So, the title that I’m most looking forward to reading is Daredevil #101. I have no idea what Marvel would do without Brubaker shouldering the heavy load for them. Brubaker writes or co-writes three of Marvel’s strongest reads in Captain America, Iron Fist and Daredevil. Brubaker is working his usual magic on Daredevil and makes it a title that you can almost always count on to be spectacular.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? Well, this is an easy choice. X-Men #204. This title has been an absolute train wreck. Poor writing has given us some of the most one-dimensional characters you will find on any title and some truly cheesy dialogue. The artwork has been an absolute hot mess. This is truly a wretched title that can thank its good sales numbers solely on the fact that on the cover of every issue are the words “X-Men.” Marvel could hire lobotomized lab rats to be the creative team for the X-Men and still crank out good sales numbers. X-Men is impressive proof on the power that the X-Men name has as a brand.

I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. I’ve only got three titles up this week: GLC, Teen Titans, and X-Men.

A couple of notes about various other titles:

    – Acuna’s no longer drawing The Flash with this issue, which is done by Freddie Williams III (late of Robin).

    – On the subject of Robin, Chuck Dixon returns as regular writer in January.

    – This issue of X-Men is being drawn by Mike Choi (X-23: Target X), who’s nothing like Ramos or Bachalo; it’s pretty good stuff, strongly “real” in character design, although the colouring is particularly computer-y.

Oh, and I agree about Bizarro-speak; the big problem is there’s no consistency between writers in depicting the language, so “Bizarro am friend” can mean either “enemy” or “friend.”

How are you enjoying MA Iron Man?

  2. I foun X-Men quite enjoyable mostly because of the art. I couldn’t stand Ramos and Bachalo was lousy sometimes, but Choi is fantastic and *gasp* comprehensible! This issue was sort of a filler before the crossover, but it had some great character interaction instead of mindless action. And it turned out to be my favourite Carey’s issue so far.

Moon Knight and Daredevil were excellent reads as usual, especially MK. Huston goes out with a bang.

But where are your reviews of Moon Knight #12 and Daredevil #100???
