DC Comics October 2025 Solicitations: 5 Biggest Takeaways

DC Comics October 2025 comic book solicitations are here! September is a big month for DC Comics. With DC Comics October solicitations we see that the month will begin their newest big event, DC K.O. With that we see a large portion of their titles being brought in to help tell the full story of their latest big event. What else does DC Comics have planned to keep an eye out in October? Find out with our five biggest takeaways from DC Comics October 2025 solicitations.

1) DC K.O. KICKS OFF DCU BATTLE TOURNAMENT EVENT

DC Comics October 2025 solicitations make it clear that their latest big event, DC K.O., will dominate the close of their year. That is unsurprising given how game changing the DC All In direction has been for the company. In many ways it revitalized DC Comics at a time it needed most with previous directions being a mix of hit and misses.

DC K.O. being written by Scott Snyder and artwork by Javi Fernandez drives home that this event will end this phase of DC All In. Snyder has helped define what DC All In has been about along with Joshua Williamson and Mark Waid. And with Williamson and Waid having written the previous two big events it is now Snyder’s turn to write the latest DC event. At least that is the cycle it appears we are on.

From the pitch alone this event is possibly the DC Comics event most made for me. Some of my favorite stories involve some form of a fighting tournament. Whether in manga, anime, comics, movies, or TV shows, I am an absolute sucker for a fighting tournament. The DC Universe heroes and villains being forced to compete in a fighting tournament setting as Darkseid returns from what he’s been doing with the Absolute Universe makes this an immediate must buy.

The in-universe ramifications of the heroes and villains being placed in a deadly tournament creates a lot of questions. Right now, it looks like Superman, Booster Gold, Darkseid, and the Legion of Super-Heroes will be the focus. There is always the Batman and Wonder Woman factor to DC’s big events. What other heroes and villains are given the opportunity to shine in the tournament could define what direction we see the company take in 2026.

2) ABSOLUTE EVIL GIVES VILLAINS MORE WINS

While the DC Universe is busy with DC K.O. the Absolute Universe’s heroes have their own ongoing concerns. Those concerns may escalate even more as the Absolute Evil comic is set to place a spotlight on all the villains. We’ve already seen from how Ra’s Al Ghul, Joker, the Rogues, Doctor Poison, and many others that the villains control the Absolute Universe. This plays into Darkseid’s vision for the Absolute Universe being a place where the villains have won and the heroes are starting in a place with no hope.

Absolute Evil #1, written by Al Ewing with artwork by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi, is now teasing a greater connection between the villains. Namely Ra’s al Ghul, Veronica Cale, Elenore Thawne, Hector Hammond, and Joker. These five villains are teased to have some sort of partnership with one another that hasn’t been shown until October. That elevates the importance of Absolute Evil as the most important of the Absolute Universe comics to come out as it could dictate how the series in this publishing line will go moving forward.

That impact may already be felt given where Absolute Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern are all at in October. Each of their series has a running theme of the respective heroes having to make important choices in the month of October. Those choices may all relate to what we could learn in Absolute Evil.

Adding to the intrigue is that one hero featured on the main cover for Absolute Evil #1 is Hawkman. We have yet to hear of an Absolute Hawkman series as of yet. Given that Hawkman is the only hero’s picture that has not been torn on the main cover that could hint at what DC Comics will be announcing at San Diego Comic-Con 2025.

3) TIM DRAKE’S SURVIVAL PLACES QUESTION ON BATMAN: H2SH IMPACT

A lesson that DC Comics is once again learning is that Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee is not a creative team you want to rely on to set the tone for major future directions. That is a lesson they have learned the hard way with Batman: H2SH, a story whose final three issues for the first half of its story being delayed by several months. As things stand, as long as the new delayed scheduled stays as is, the finale of H2SH Part One with Batman #163 is scheduled for October 29th. In that time alone we will have at least two issues of Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez upcoming Batman run published.

If things aren’t made worse for Batman: H2SH, yet another spoiler has been given away as Batman #2 shows the Dark Knight partnered with Tim Drake’s Robin. Now as things stand, this does hint that Loeb and Lee’s big development around the “Robin problem” isn’t the death of Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, or Damian Wayne. This leaves us with Nightwing’s ongoing still happening, Tim appearing in Batman, Damian appearing in Batman & Robin, and Jason getting a new Red Hood ongoing.

Unless DC Comics is doing a bait-and-switch, this shows that Batman: H2SH may really be best off taking place in its own universe. It wouldn’t be the first time DC Comics has done this for an “important” Batman story. Batman: Three Jokers got that treatment and it was honestly for the best that it was its own universe. And with it being unknown when Part Two of Batman: H2SH will even happen simply put what Loeb and Lee are doing should have zero impact on the main DC Universe.

It’s the best for Loeb and Lee to have creative freedom to have their own Batman universe. This would also help the rest of Batman Family creative teams left wondering what changes they have to make for other creators who can’t hit deadlines. With how competitive the comic book market is it would not be a good thing for anyone in the Batman office.

4) HAL JORDAN MAKES HIS NAME IN THE BOOK OF OA

October will mark the end of the ‘Starbreaker Supremacy’ crossover between Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps. This will put an end to the first phase of the Fractured Spectrum direction for the franchise. The ending of ‘Starbreaker Supremacy’ will say a lot about where both Green Lantern titles will go moving forward. Afterall, the Starbreakers have been the main driving force for both series.

We already get a hint at where the main Green Lantern series will go as the Book of Oa will have a major addition to it. That addition are the words “Hal Jordan” being discovered in the Book of Oa. It is not to surprising that Hal would find his own name in the most important book to the Green Lantern mythos. Hal is afterall the most iconic Green Lantern. What it means for Hal’s name to be in the Book of Oa will drive the main series for the franchise.

For the rest of the Green Lantern Corps, we still have a lot of questions around how the DC Universe is being impacted by the Fractured Spectrum direction. There have already been a lot of people across the DCU who have shown signs of gaining powers based on the Emotional Spectrum. That could be continuing. Or we could see Green Lantern Corps be one of the titles brought into the DC K.O. event with the Fractured Spectrum playing a role int the upcoming DCU fighting tournament.

5) DC COMICS BRINGING BACK SUPERMAN’S BEST COMIC BOOK

One of my favorite comic books starring the Man of Steel that DC Comics has published is Superman: Red & Blue. The six issue mini-series that was published in 2021 really showed the power of anthology comic books. They provide the opportunity for a variety of creative teams to tell one-shot style stories.

So when I saw that DC Comics is bringing back Superman Red & Blue for a one-shot special in October, I got immediately excited. The creative team lined up for this one-shot special continues the tradition of having a wide variety of voices and styles for anthology. Paul Dini, Dan Abnett, Michael Walsh, and Rainbow Rowell each have a distinctive approach that will work to create a variety of stories in Superman’s world.

I would not mind if Superman Red & Blue fills in the hole of yearly annuals for the Man of Steel. We’ve seen that while there is a lot of potential with an anthology approach DC Comics doesn’t have the best approach to that type of comic. DC Comics attempted to turn Action Comics into an anthology series that they quickly gave up on because they tried to apply the long story arc approach of most comics. As we will once again see with Superman Red & Blue 2025 Special, the best anthology comics are those where creators tell a complete story while maximizing their page count.
