Election Day 2008

Today is Election Day for all of my fellow Americans. So, I wanted to take this opportunity to urge everyone to make the effort and to take the time to go and vote. I know that it will be a pain in the ass to get out of work in order to run over to your polling center. And I know that we all have busy schedules and hectic lives. And we all know that the lines to vote are going to be insanely long.

But, it is important that we all exercise our right to vote. Even though we do not live in a democracy, our limited right to vote is still a precious gift. And more importantly, if you don’t vote then you don’t get the right to bitch and complain about the Duocracy that has a death grip on our country. So, please, everyone go and vote for whoever you support.

  1. (This is werehawk. Problems signing in again)

    Done.
You should have a who did you vote for poll. (or at least a “did you vote?” poll).
And I am wearing my “Captain America for President shirt”. Are you?

  2. This has nothing to do with comics per say, and almost nothing about the election, but if you can’t post an agry rant on the internet, what good is it?

So when I was a young lad, my father would take me every election to the polling place so I could get a sense of civic duty and democracy in action early on. Now, I’ve got children myself and today I took my eldest to the polling place to watch me vote. So afterwards, I got that little sticker they give you, and asked for one for my daughter. And you have no idea how much a fuss they made over that. It was all “We can’t give them to none-voters.” And “It’s not ethical” What, is there some constitutional amendment I don’t know about that says only voters get stickers? Has the economic crises gotten so bad in America that we can’t give out stickers to little girls. My great grandparents fled the cozaks in the hope of finding a land of plenty, where stickers poured like rain. Why must polling people be such jerks? Ok, I’m done now and I feel a little better.
