September 2025 Comic Book Sales Rankings

September 2025 Comic Book Sales Rankings

It is time to check out the September 2025 comic book sales rankings. Things are getting murkier in terms of actual unit numbers. So, we must settle for going to ICv2 for their Top 200 sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we must work with what we get.

Keep in mind that the Top 200 sales rankings are based on sales tracked at point-of-sale by the ComicHub system at over 125 local comic book shops selling American comics. These sales rankings represent sales to consumers by local comic shops.

We all know that these ICv2 sales charts based on the ComicHub system are not the best. However, as long as publishers hide their sales statistics, this is the best that we have to go by. You do see that these sales charts give a rough sketch of the market because titles that get canceled correspond with low sales rankings in these ComicHub charts. I wish we had better data to analyze, but we have to make do with whatever data we have these days.

The data for the September 2025 comic book sales rankings was collected based on a four-week month, from August 31 to October 1, 2025.

You can go over to ICv2 and check out the Top 50 for September 2025 for free, or opt for a pro membership (It is well worth the money) and get the Top 200 for September 2025 and then come back here for a detailed analysis of the September 2025 comic book sales rankings!

September 2025 Comic Book Sales Rankings

The Battle for the Top 10

DC Comics placed six comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the two comics that DC Comics had in the Top 10 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had three comics in the Top 10 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as DC Comics had four comics in the Top 10 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had four comics in the Top 10 in September 2022.

As always, DC Comics’ only success is due to Bruce Wayne and the Absolute Universe franchise. This publisher has nothing else in their arsenal. Two of DC Comics’ six comics were Batman comics. Four of DC Comics’ six comics were from the Absolute Universe.

Marvel Comics placed four comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the eight comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 10 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had six comics in the Top 10 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had six comics in the Top 10 in September 2022.

Marvel Comics simply could not withstand the onslaught of a brand new Batman comic that shipped two issues in the same month, plus the powerhouse that is the Absolute Universe. The result is the worst Top 10 finish for September over three years.

The Battle for the Top 25

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 11-25 range typically sell in the 65,000 to 50,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed thirteen comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were down from the seventeen comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 25 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2022.

What has become a predictable pattern continues. Marvel Comics eats a big punch from DC Comics in the form of Bruce Wayne and the Absolute Universe. Then Marvel Comics shrugs it off and proceeds to give DC Comics an ass beating. Between spots 11 and 25, Marvel Comics decimated DC Comics by a score of 9-4.

Having said that, it is obvious that Marvel Comics has ceded ground to DC Comics. Marvel Comics is down in the Top 25 across the past three years.

DC Comics placed ten comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were up from the six comics that DC Comics had in the Top 25 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had seven comics in the Top 25 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as DC Comics had nine comics in the Top 25 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had seven comics in the Top 25 in September 2022.

DC Comics’s ten comics in the Top 25 only come from the Batman franchise (3) and the Absolute Universe franchise (7). This highlights DC Comics’ continuing problem, which is getting plastered over by the stunning success of the Absolute Universe. DC Comics has literally nothing else in its stable of franchises outside of Bruce Wayne and the Absolute Universe. The fact that DC Comics cannot place any other franchises into the Top 25 is a terrible sign. Especially considering how diverse the selection of franchises is for Marvel Comics in the Top 25.

Image Comics placed two comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were flat compared to the two comics that Image Comics had in the Top 25 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 25 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 25 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 25 in September 2022.

Invincible Universe Battle Beast #5 ticked down from the number 19 spot to the number 23 spot. Next month will be pivotal. We will see if this title has the ability to continue to hold firm in the Top 25 going forward.

The Battle for the Top 50

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 26-50 range typically sell in the 49,000 to 30,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed twenty-nine comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the thirty-two comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had thirty-three comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had thirty-one comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had thirty-two comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

The good news is that Marvel kicked the crap out of DC Comics between the number 26 and number 50 spots by a score of 16-6. The bad news is that the beating Marvel Comics gave DC Comics in the Top 50 is the smallest margin that we have seen in September over the past three years.

DC Comics placed sixteen comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the twelve comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had ten comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as DC Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had thirteen comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Fourteen of DC Comics’s sixteen comics in the Top 50 come from the Batman franchise (3) and the Absolute Universe franchise (11). That is awful. DC Comics only managed to get two comics in the Top 50 from franchises outside of Batman and Absolute Universe. This remains a chronic problem at DC Comics.

The good news is that DC Comics is up compared to a year and three years ago. However, the bad news is that DC Comics is down compared to two years ago. And nobody thought DC Comics was healthy two years ago.

Image Comics placed four comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were flat compared to the four comics that Image Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Image Comics had five comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Image Comics had three comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

IDW Publishing placed one comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 50 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11 dipped from the number 29 spot to the number 32 spot. This title continues to hover around this general area.

The Battle for the Top 75

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 51-75 range typically sell in the 29,000 to 25,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed forty-three comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down from the forty-seven comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 75 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had forty-six comics in the Top 75 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-six comics in the Top 75 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-three comics in the Top 75 in September 2022.

DC Comics placed twenty-six comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the twenty comics that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in August 2025.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 75 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as DC Comics had twenty-four comics in the Top 75 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had twenty-one comics in the Top 75 in September 2022.

The bad news is that DC Comics is still getting Godzilla stomped by Marvel Comics in the Top 75. The good news is that it is by a smaller margin compared to the past three years.

Image Comics placed five comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were flat compared to the five comics that Image Comics had in the Top 75 in August 2025.

Mark Spears Monsters #7 ticked up from the 103 spot to the number 99 spot. It is insane how hot this title has been. Keenspot is such a tiny publisher. Honestly, it is a publisher that was never on my radar until Mark Spears Monsters hit the market. What a massive hit for such a small publisher.

17 One World Under Doom #7

185 Superior Avengers #6

One World Under Doom had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was down in the Top 10 but flat in the Top 25 and Top 50 compared to July 2025, when One World Under Doom had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

DC K.O.

51 Justice League: The Omega Act Special #1

DC K.O. had zero comics in the Top 50. I am sure this will change once this big event tile kicks off in the October sales chart. There seems to be a sizable interest in this upcoming story.

Year-over-year numbers were worse as the Hasbro franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

The Hasbro franchise is cooling off at a rapid rate. Unfortunately, Image Comics has been unable to keep this momentum going for more than a year.

GI Joe #11 fell from the number 44 spot to the number 60 spot. This title is a shadow of its former self, having consistently dominated the Top 25.

GI Joe: A Real American Hero #320 fell from the number 119 spot to the number 139 spot.

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #3 fell from the number 24 spot to the number 47 spot. This five-issue mini-series is going to have to rally in order to conclude in the Top 50.

Godzilla (Kai-Sei Era) #2 plummeted like a dead duck falling from the number 47 spot to the number 132 spot. Ouch. Clearly, IDW did not do enough to get readers excited to stick around on this title.

Starship Godzilla (Kai-Sei Era) #1 had an awful debut at the number 158 spot.

Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens #4 was unranked for the fourth straight month.

Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone #2 crashed and burned falling from the number 118 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked.

IDW Publishing looks like they are going to fumble the Godzilla license like they did the Hasbro license. IDW’s well-documented struggles handling licensed properties rears its ugly head again.

72 Star Wars Boba Fett – Black, White & Red #1 (Marvel Comics)

86 Star Wars: The Legacy of Vader #8 (Marvel Comics)

Numbers were down from three years ago, as the Star Wars franchise had I had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Star Wars Boba Fett – Black, White & Red #1 had a brutal debut at the number 72 spot. Even when Marvel Comics tries to utilize a once popular character, there is still no sales success. The Star Wars fandom has been worn away over years of mismanagement by Lucasfilm and Disney.

Star Wars: The Legacy of Vader #8 fell from the number 75 spot to the number 86 spot. This is the lowest ranking for this title to this point.

Star Wars #5 fell from the number 86 spot to the number 97 spot. Star Wars #6 then fell from the number 97 spot to the number 117 spot. Wow. It is amazing to see this title already in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #7 fell from the number 91 spot to the number 111 spot. This ended the one-month reprieve from the Dead Titles Walking category.

Star Wars: Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon #1 had an embarrassing debut at the number 144 spot. This five-issue mini-series is going to struggle to even remain ranked in the Top 200 for its duration. I saw this coming from a mile away. Rodney Barnes is the writer, and he has been having one epic sales failure after another on all of his Star Wars titles.

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra – Chaos Agent #4 fell from the number 197 spot and out of the Top 200 rankings to end up unranked. We all knew this title was going to be unranked this month. The pairing of a Hollywood writer with a character nobody cares about continues to be a losing formula.

Star Wars: Tales from the Nightlands #1 had an embarrassing debut, failing to even make the Top 200 and going unranked. Cavan Scott’s streak of sales failures continues strong.

The Spider-Man franchise had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 10 and Top 50 than August 2025, when the Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25 and up in the Top 50, as the Spider-Man franchise had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 50 from two years ago, as the Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25 and flat in the Top 50 from three years ago, as the Spider-Man franchise had two comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

We will start with the main man himself: Peter Parker.

Amazing Spider-Man #11 climbed from the number 10 spot to the number 5 spot. Amazing Spider-Man #12 then dropped to the number 14 spot. Amazing Spider-Man #22 then dropped to the number 22 spot. That is an impressive showing for a title that shipped three issues in a single month. Wow.

Spider-Man ’94 #1 had an excellent debut at the number 11 spot. This four-issue mini-series from J.M. DeMatteis is off to a hot start. It is great to see one of my favorite old writers having such success.

Spider-Man & Wolverine #5 plummeted from the number 36 spot to the number 81 spot. This is the lowest ranking we have seen for this title.

Let’s check out the knock-off Spider-Men.

Spider-Man Noir #1 had a solid debut at the number 29 spot. We shall see if Erik Larsen’s five-issue mini-series is able to remain in the Top 50 next month.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #38 fell from the number 112 spot to the number 119 spot. This is the second consecutive month this title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s hop over to the Venomverse.

All-New Venom #10 fell from the number 37 spot to the number 62 spot. Venom #250 then rebounded back to the number 37 spot. So, Marvel Comics goes through the silly renumbering exercise to only return to the same place in the rankings this title was last month.

Eddie Brock: Carnage #8 fell from the number 63 spot to the number 98 spot. This snapped three consecutive months of this title climbing in the rankings.

Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse #5 climbed from the number 146 spot to the number 122 spot. This five-issue mini-series has now concluded on a disappointing note, finishing in the Dead Titles Walking category for the final two issues. The Spider-Verse continues to see weaker and weaker sales performance.

Venom Black, White & Blood #2 crashed and burned, falling from the number 39 spot to the number 128 spot. I predicted this title would fall out of the Top 50 with the second issue. However, I did not see this steep a drop heading our way. This four-issue mini-series is going to be lucky to be ranked by the time it concludes.

Edge of Venomverse #1 had a hideous debut, failing to make the Top 200 and going unranked.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Spider-Man franchise.

Black Cat #2 crashed and burned, falling from the number 6 spot to the number 57 spot. Welp. That was fast. I anticipated this title would drop out of the Top 50 quickly, but I was not expecting it to do so with just the second issue. This is no surprise to anyone who is grounded in reality.

Once I saw that G. Willow Wilson was the writer, I knew that this comic was going to fail in the sales charts. Wilson is a bad fit for a mainstream superhero comic book and always has bad sales numbers. Just another example of Marvel Comics’ editorial being out of touch with reality.

All-New Spider-Gwen The Ghost-Spider #2 cratered in spectacular fashion, falling from the number 28 spot to the number 101 spot. Again. Literally nobody with more than two functioning brain cells would be surprised by this. Which is to say Marvel Comics editorial is probably stunned at this revelation.

Restarting this title with the exact same writer in Stephanie Phillips and expecting a different result is the definition of the insanity that grips the minds of Marvel Comics’ editors. The last issue of Phillips’ Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #15 took the number 160 spot. It looks like All-New Spider-Gwen The Ghost-Spider is going to be at the same place in the rankings in short order.

Spider-Girl #4 fell from the number 200 spot and out of the rankings to go unranked. Zero surprise. I have no idea what the editorial staff was smoking when they thought this title was a brilliant idea. Torunn Grønbekk continues her quest to become the new Tini Howard of comic book sales.

The X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50. This was flat compared to August 2025, when the X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down by a wide margin, as the X-Men franchise had five comics in the Top 10, ten comics in the Top 25, and thirteen comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as the X-Men franchise had three comics in the Top 10, eight comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as the X-Men franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Let’s start with the team titles.

X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 had a nice debut at the number 13 spot. It’s like the1990s all over again as we see Jeph Loeb writing an X-Men big event comic starring Apocalypse.

Uncanny X-Men #20 fell from the number 9 spot to the number 18 spot. This is close to the number 22 ranking that Uncanny X-Men #18 had in July 2025.

Uncanny X-Men #21 then dropped to the number 36 spot. This is the second time that we have seen this title selling outside of the Top 25 in the past four months.

X-Men Age of Revelation Overture #1 had an average debut at the number 31 spot. This one-shot did not perform as well as expected.

X-Men #22 climbed from the number 42 spot to the number 33 spot. This is the second consecutive issue that X-Men has sold outside of the Top 25. That is a terrible sign.

Exceptional X-Men #13 climbed from the number 94 spot to the number 76 spot. This title continues to be the weakest selling title out of the main “core” X-Men titles.

Let’s check out the duo titles.

Deadpool / Batman #1 scored the number 1 spot. We all knew this going to happen. Nothing is beating a crossover starring Batman and Deadpool.

Deadpool / Wolverine #9 climbed from the number 133 spot to the number 105 spot. Deadpool / Wolverine #10 fell from the number 105 spot to the number 142 spot. This title has now been in the Dead Titles Walking category for the past three issues.

Wolverines & Deadpools #3 plummeted from the number 105 spot to the number 154 spot. This title continues to be a total sales failure, as it has been in the Dead Titles Walking category for all three issues. Cody Ziglar continues to struggle in the sales chart. This title is one of those predictable, bad ideas that Marvel Comics’ editorial team coughs up on a regular basis.

Let’s hop over to the lone dude of the X-Men franchise.

Wolverine #13 took the number 38 spot, which is the same spot in the rankings this title had last month. Wolverine has sold outside of the Top 25 for five consecutive months. This should not happen with Wolverine’s flagship solo title.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the X-Men franchise.

Magik #9 dropped from the number 23 spot to the number 44 spot. Magik #10 then fell to the number 53 spot. This is the first time Magik has sold outside of the Top 50.

Laura Kinney: Wolverine #10 fell from the number 53 spot to the number 69 spot.

Emma Frost: The White Queen #4 dropped from the number 76 spot to the number 90 spot. This five-issue mini-series is going to have to rally to avoid being in the Dead Titles Walking category with its final issue.

Storm #12 crashed from the number 60 spot to the number 118 spot. This title held out as long as it could, but becoming a Dead Title Walking felt inevitable.

Phoenix #15 climbed from the number 144 spot to the number 127 spot. This is the fourth consecutive month that Stephanie Phillips’ title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Gwenpool #5 crashed and burned, falling from the number 98 spot to the number 165 spot. This ended the one-month escape from the Dead Titles Walking category. Gwenpool has now been a dead title walking for three of its five issues. Cavan Scott continues to have no sales success in mainstream comics.

Avengers Franchise

172 Vision & the Scarlet Witch #5

185 Superior Avengers #6 (Doom)

192 Red Hulk #9 (Doom)

199 Incredible Hulk #28 (Resolictiation)

The Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was worse than August 2025, when the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and nine comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as the Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as the Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Avengers #30 climbed from the number 83 spot to the number 54 spot. This is the second consecutive month Avengers has climbed in the rankings. This is also the highest we have seen Avengers since Avengers #25 took the number 40 spot in April 2025.

New Avengers #4 fell like a dead duck from the number 41 spot to the number 92 spot. Damn. I predicted this title was going to be out of the Top 50, but I did not expect such a monstrous drop with the fourth issue.

New Avengers #5 then fell to the number 100 spot. It looks like New Avengers may be a dead title walking with the next issue.

Superior Avengers #6 plummeted from the number 127 spot to the number 185 spot. With this issue, Steve Foxe’s six-issue mini-series has concluded. This title was a sales failure. The final four issues of this mini-series were in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s check out the sole duo title.

Vision & the Scarlet Witch #5 fell from the number 137 spot to the number 172 spot. This is the fourth straight month that Steve Orlando’s title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s wrap up with the dudes of the Avengers franchise.

Captain America #3 fell from the number 8 spot to the number 10 spot. I did not see this big a drop coming. Especially since this title went from the number 10 spot with the first issue to the number 8 spot with the second issue. We shall see if this title can rally next month to remain a Top 25 seller.

Mortal Thor #2 plummeted from the number 34 spot to the number 73 spot. This is brutal. The Immortal Thor was selling in the 40s, a few months before it got canceled. This gimmicky restart of Thor’s title has blown up in Marvel Comics’ face.

Incredible Hulk #29 ticked down from the number 80 spot to the number 83 spot.

Red Hulk #8 fell from the number 115 spot to the number 171 spot. Red Hulk #9 then fell to the number 192 spot. This title continues to get dreadful sales numbers.

Fantastic Four Franchise

17 One World Under Doom #7

21 Fantastic Four #3

66 Death of the Silver Surfer #4

151 Death of the Silver Surfer #3 (Resolictiation)

Unranked: The Thing #5

The Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was worse than August 2025, when the Fantastic Four franchise had two comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as the Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Fantastic Four #3 fell from the number 5 spot to the number 21 spot. Much like Captain America, this is another big drop that I was not expecting. The first two issues had scored the number 2 and number 5 spots, respectively. This indicated that this newly restarted Fantastic Four might have some staying power in the Top 10 or Top 15. Not so much. Now we will have to see if this title can rally and remain a Top 25 seller or if this is the beginning of a larger sales slide.

Death of the Silver Surfer #4 fell from the number 40 spot to the number 66 spot. This five-issue mini-series continues to shed readers at a high rate.

The Thing #5 fell from the number 172 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. What an embarrassing end for this five-issue mini-series. This title was a total sales failure.

The Ultimate Universe

10 Ultimate Spider-Man #21

19 Ultimate Wolverine #9

26 Ultimate Wolverine #10

27 Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion #4

28 Ultimates #16

35 Ultimate Hawkeye #1

43 Ultimate Spider-Man #20 (Resolcitation)

49 Ultimate X-Men #19

68 Ultimate X-Men #20

93 Ultimate Black Panther #20

The Ultimate Universe had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10, worse in the Top 25, and better in the Top 50 than August 2025, when the Ultimate Universe had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 10 and down in the Top 25, but up in the Top 50, as the Ultimate Universe had two comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Ultimate Spider-Man #21 climbed from the number 16 spot to the number 10 spot.

Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion #4 dropped from the number 17 spot to the number 27 spot. This is brutal. This title debuted at the number 2 spot. It is surprising to see it already out of the Top 25 by the fourth issue, given the insanely impressive debut number.

Ultimate Wolverine #9 fell from the number 7 spot to the number 19 spot. Ultimate Wolverine #10 then fell to the number 26 spot. This is the worst month for Ultimate Wolverine since June 2025, when Ultimate Wolverine #6 took the number 6 spot and Ultimate Wolverine #7 took the number 26 spot. What is concerning is the sales ranking for Ultimate Wovlerine #9. That is well outside of its customary Top 10 finish.

Ultimates #16 dropped from the number 21 spot to the number 28 spot. This title has now sold outside of the Top 25 for three of its past four issues. This title used to be a lock for the Top 10. That sales power has faded.

Ultimate Hawkeye #1 had a bad debut at the number 35 spot. This is the lowest debut for any Ultimate Universe title to this point. This title is in danger of dropping outside of the Top 50 with the next issue.

Ultimate X-Men #19 dropped from the number 30 spot to the number 49 spot. Ultimate X-Men has not been this low in the rankings since June 2025, when Ultimate X-Men #16 also took the number 49 spot.

Ultimate X-Men #20 then fell to the number 68 spot. I would expect this title to rally next month and get back into the Top 50.

Ultimate Black Panther #20 fell from the number 79 spot to the number 93 spot. This is the lowest we have seen this title in the rankings. This is also the closest an Ultimate Universe title has gotten to becoming a dead title walking.

The Ultimate Universe is still a good-selling franchise for Marvel Comics. But the sales cracks are beginning to show. Ultimate Wolverine is showing sales weakness for the first time. The Utlimates looks to have definitely cooled off and is not going to regain its Top 10 form. Ultimate Black Panther is trending closer and closer to the Dead Titles Walking category. And Ultimate Hawkeye had a poor debut compared to the other Ultimate Universe titles.

This could just be a temporary sales blip. The next few months are going to be fascinating to watch.

The Batman franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 10 and Top 25, but flat in the Top 50 compared to August 2025, when the Batman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up/down/flat, as the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up/down/flat from two years ago, as the Batman franchise had three comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and nine comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up/down/flat from three years ago, as the Batman franchise had three comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and eleven comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Batman #1 had an awesome debut at the number 2 spot. 4 Batman #2 then dipped to the number 4 spot. This is phenomenal. To see one title ship two issues in a month and place both in the Top 5 is insane. What a testament to the unrivaled power of Bruce Wayne’s character. Bruce Wayne is one of those rare characters that will sell well no matter what writer is placed on the title. Even Matt Fraction.

Immortal Legend Batman #2 dropped from the number 31 spot to the number 59 spot. Welp. So much for this six-issue mini-series remaining a Top 50 seller. Let’s see if this title can just remain in the Top 100 until its conclusion.

Detective Comics #1101 crashed from the number 27 spot to the number 61 spot. This snapped two consecutive months in the Top 50.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #43 ticked up from the number 81 spot to the number 79 spot.

The Bat-Man Second Knight #1 had a terrible debut at the number 95 spot. This six-issue mini-series is doomed to be a dead title walking.

Batman Dark Patterns #10 fell from the number 84 spot to the number 103 spot. This snapped a two-month streak of this twelve-issue limited series selling outside of the Dead Titles Walking category.

Batman Gotham by Gaslight – A League for Justice #3 dropped from the number 93 spot to the number 129 spot. This six-issue mini-series was doomed to be a dead title walking by this month.

Let’s check out the Bat-boys

Red Hood #1 scored a Top 15 debut. This was definitely powered by all the media attention given to Gretchen Felker-Martin getting fired for being stupid on social media and then Red Hood getting canceled. My only hope? That Jason Todd gets a shot at a new solo title, penned by a writer who does not boast about having never read a single comic starring Jason Todd.

Nightwing #130 climbed from the number 90 spot to the number 67 spot. This is roughly where this title stood in July 2025, when it reached the 66th spot.

Batman and Robin Year One #11 fell from the number 67 spot to the number 82 spot. This twelve-issue mini-series should be able to conclude within the Top 100 next month.

Batman and Robin #25 climbed from the number 123 spot to the number 109 spot. This title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category for five of the past six months.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Batman franchise.

Batgirl #11 fell from the number 95 spot to the number 110 spot. This ended this title’s one-month reprieve from the Dead Titles Walking category. Batgirl #12 then fell to the number 184 spot.

Poison Ivy #36 ticked down from the number 114 spot to the number 115 spot. Poison Ivy #37 then dropped to the number 170 spot. This title cannot escape the Dead Titles Walking category.

Birds of Prey #25 dropped from the number 107 spot to the number 155 spot. Birds of Prey #26 then fell out of the Top 200 and went unranked. Brutal.

Catwoman #79 fell from the number 150 spot to the number 190 spot. Torun Grønbekk continues to be a sales dud on this title.

Harley Quinn #54 was unranked for a fourth consecutive month. DC Comics editorial is going to have to finally place a real mainstream superhero comic book writer on this title. It is stunning how DC Comics has destroyed Harley Quinn’s character. She has been getting abysmal sales rankings for years.

Gotham Academy: First Year #1 had an embarrassing debut, failing to even make the Top 200 and going unranked. No surprise. Any comic that has Becky Cloonan listed as a writer is going to bomb straight out of the gate.

It continues to be a rough go in the sales charts for the ladies of the Batman franchise. All of them are big sales failures. DC Comics needs to shake things up on these titles.

Superman Franchise

Numbers were down from three years ago, as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Superman #30 ticked down from the number 54 spot to the number 55 spot. This title has now sold outside of the Top 50 for four of the past five issues. DC Comics should be embarrassed.

Adventures of Superman Book of El #1 had an awful debut at the number 74 spot. It got even worse as Adventures of Superman Book of El #2 fell out of the Top 200 and went unranked. This twelve-issue limited series is already an embarrassing sales disaster for DC Comics.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #2 dropped from the number 33 spot to the number 77 spot. This was no surprise given the weak debut number. This five-issue mini-series should be out of the Top 100 by the next issue.

Superman Unlimited #5 fell from the number 61 spot to the number 94 spot. This title remains another sales embarrassment for DC Comics. This title has only been in the Top 50 for two of its five issues and is now at risk of falling into the Dead Titles Walking category.

Action Comics #1090 dropped from the number 64 spot to the number 96 spot. Yikes. This is another iconic title that should be a Top 50 seller.

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #4 fell from the number 97 spot to the number 114 spot. This five-issue limited series was destined to become a dead title walking.

Let’s finish with the sole lady of the Superman franchise.

Supergirl #5 dropped from the number 51 spot to the number 63 spot. This title has now sold outside of the Top 50 for three of the past four issues. We shall see if Supergirl can remain in the Top 75 with the next issue.

The Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was flat compared to August 2025, when the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as the Justice League franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Let’s start with the team titles.

Justice League Unlimited #11 ticked down from the number 46 spot to the number 50 spot. DC Comics cannot have this title drop out of the Top 50. It already should be a Top 25 seller as it is.

Justice League The Omega Act Special #1 had an unimpressive debut at the number 51 spot.

Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong 2 #4 fell from the number 58 spot to the number 84 spot. This seven-issue mini-series continues to perform lower than expectations.

Justice League Red #2 plummeted from the number 78 spot to the number 131 spot. This was expected, given the awful debut number for this six-issue limited series. Saladin Ahmed continues with his uneven sales performance. This title remains a bizarre decision by DC Comics editorial. I am unsure why they thought this roster was a winning mix of characters.

JSA #11 fell from the number 111 spot to the number 133 spot. JSA #12 then fell out of the Top 200 and went unranked. DC Comics has mismanaged the JSA for years. I am not sure this franchise can be rehabilitated to the point where it can be anything other than a dead title walking.

Let’s check out the Green Lantern franchise.

Green Lantern Corps #8 dropped from the number 106 spot to the number 130 spot. This title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category for four of the past five issues.

Green Lantern #27 climbed from the number 155 spot to the number 143 spot.

The state of the Green Lantern franchise is inexcusable. There is no reason why these should be dead titles walking every month.

Let’s hop over to the dudes of the Justice League franchise.

Aquaman #9 fell from the number 128 spot to the number 137 spot. This is the fifth consecutive month that this title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category.

The Flash #25 ticked up from the number 195 spot to the number 191 spot.

Mr. Terrific: Year One #5 fell from the number 158 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. Sales just keep getting more abysmal for this six-issue limited series.

Green Arrow #28 dropped from the number 187 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. A Green Arrow title should never be unranked. Embarrassing.

Let’s finish up with the ladies of the Justice League franchise.

Wonder Woman #25 climbed from the number 99 spot to the number 52 spot. This was an excellent rebound to the same spot that Wonder Woman #23 took in July 2025.

DC’s Zatannic Panic #1 had a hideous debut at the number 146 spot. This one-shot was a total sales dud.

Trinity Daughter of Wonder Woman #4 fell from the number 134 spot to the number 160 spot. Tom King’s six-issue limited series continues to be a predictable sales failure.

Fire & Ice: When Hell Freezes Over #6 was unranked for the fifth consecutive month. What an epic misfire and a cmoplete misreading of their consumer’s interests by DC Comics to roll out this Joanne Starer comic.

Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League #2 plummeted from the number 125 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League #3 was also unranked. This Greg Rucka six-issue limited series is a spectacular sales failure. The disconnect between DC Comics editorial and their consumers is profound.

The state of the Justice League franchise is unacceptable, and DC Comics should be mortified. How people can keep their jobs with all of this stunning failure is beyond me. There should always be a flagship Justice League title in the Top 25. The Green Lantern franchise should be in the Top 50. The Flash, Aquaman, and Green Arrow are all characters that should be at least in the Top 75.

The Absolute Universe

3 Absolute Batman #12

6 Absolute Evil #1 (One-Shot)

7 Absolute Superman #11

9 Absolute Wonder Woman #12

16 Absolute Flash #7

20 Absolute Superman #12

24 Absolute Green Lantern #6

34 Absolute Batman #11 (Resolictiation)

41 Absolute Wonder Woman #11 (Resolictiation)

48 Absolute Green Lantern #7

56 Absolute Martian Manhunter #6 (Of 12)

112 Absolute Batman #1 (Resolictiation)

125 Absolute Batman #1 (Resolictiation)

136 Absolute Flash #6 (Resolictiation)

153 Absolute Batman #2 (Resolictiation)

156 Absolute Batman #7 (Resolictiation)

175 Absolute Batman #3 (Resolictiation)

182 Absolute Batman #4 (Resolictiation)

194 Absolute Batman #10 (Resolictiation)

196 Absolute Wonder Woman #1 (Resolictiation)

198 Absolute Batman #5 (Resolictiation)

The Absolute Universe had four comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50. This was better than August 2025, when the Absolute Universe had two comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

Absolute Batman #12 dipped from the number 1 spot to the number 3 spot. This title continues to be a total rockstar.

Absolute Evil #1 scored an impressive debut at the number 6 spot. This one-shot was a hot seller which just emphasized the unrivaled selling power of the Absolute Universe franchise.

Absolute Superman #11 ticked down from the number 2 spot to the number 7 spot. This snaps a four-month streak of scoring in the Top 3. Absolute Superman #12 then dropped to the number 20 spot.

Absolute Wonder Woman #12 ticked up from the number 13 spot to the number 8 spot.

Absolute Flash #7 dipped from the number 14 spot to the number 16 spot.

Absolute Green Lantern #6 fell from the number 12 spot to the number 24 spot. Absolute Green Lantern #7 then fell to the number 48 spot. This concludes this seven-issue limited series. This title ended on a down note and was far weaker in sales than the other Absolute Universe titles, which constantly stay up in the Top 10 to Top 15 at worst.

Absolute Martian Manhunter #6 dropped from the number 22 spot to the number 56 spot. Yikes. This is the lowest we have ever seen an Absolute Universe franchise title in the sales rankings. Perhaps DC Comics did not need to convert Deniz Camp’s seven-issue limited series into a twelve-issue limited series.

This is the first month that we have seen some small cracks in the Absolute Universe’s armor. This was the first month where the Absolute Universe had two titles selling outside of the Top 25. This was also the first month where the Absolute Universe had a title sell outside of the Top 50. To be clear, the Absolute Universe is still white hot, but nothing lasts forever.

Absolute Batman continues to be the crown jewel of the Absolute Universe and it is not even remotely close. Snyder’s Absolute Batman slaps around all of the other Absolute Universe titles as it placed EIGHT resolicited issues in the Top 200.

A stunning nine resolicited issues in the Top 200. Insane. We are talking resolicitated issues from as far as a year ago. It is nothing short of shocking. I cannot remember another title placing such an insane amount of resolicited issues in the Top 200 in a single month.

Supernatural Comics

30 Marvel Zombies Red Band #1 (Marvel Comics)

64 Spirits of Violence #1 (Marvel Comics)

65 Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #12 (Marvel Comics)

120 Doctor Strange #450 (Marvel Comics)

159 Hellverine #10 (Marvel Comics)

189 DC Vs Vampires World War V #12 (Of 12) (DC Comics)

Unranked: Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #6 (DC Comics)

Marvel Zombies Red Band #1 had an average debut at the number 30 spot.

Spirits of Violence #1 had a poor debut at the number 64 spot. Sabir Prizada continues to have no sales success with mainstream superhero comics. The concept for this title is cool. I wish Marvel Comics had hired a better writer for this title.

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #12 dropped from the number 57 spot to the number 65 spot. This is the fourth consecutive month that this title has sold outside of the Top 50. It looks like the days of Moon Knight constantly posting great sales numbers may have concluded.

Hellverine #10 plummeted from the number 59 spot to the number 159 spot.

DC Vs Vampires World War V #12 fell from the number 130 spot to the number 189 spot. With this issue, this twelve-issue limited series has concluded. This title was a sales dud for DC Comics.

Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #6 dropped from the number 1176 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. With this issue, this six-issue mini-series from Ram V has concluded. This mini-series was a complete sales failure that ended up being unranked for four of its six issues.

Cosmic Comics

42 Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #2 (Marvel Comics)

88 New Gods #10 (Of 12) (DC Comics)

152 Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #1 (Marvel Comics) (Resolictiation)

Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #2 crashed from the number 11 spot to the number 42 spot. Ouch. That was a bigger drop than anticipated.

New Gods #10 fell from the number 74 spot to the number 88 spot. This is snapped a two-month streak of this title managing to make the Top 75.

Street Level Comics

8 Punisher Red Band #1 (Marvel Comics)

102 Undead Iron Fist #1 (Marvel Comics)

104 Daredevil #25 (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: White Tiger #1 (Marvel Comics)

8 Punisher Red Band #1 had an awesome debut at the number 8 spot. Benjaim Percy is an excellent choice as the writer of this title. It’s great to see Frank Castle back and rocking the true Punisher logo. It looks like Marvel Comics is trying to clean up Jason Aaron’s dirty diaper when he shit the bed on his Punisher title.

Undead Iron Fist #1 had an embarrassing debut at the number 102 spot. This four-issue mini-series is a dead title walking right out of the gate, which means it will get brutal sales numbers over the next three issues. Jason Loo continues to struggle to have any sales success with Marvel Comics. This is no surprise. Marvel Comics has made such a mess of the Iron Fist franchise over the years that it has killed consumer interest in the franchise.

Daredevil #25 fell like a shot duck from the number 54 spot to the number 104 spot. What the hell? This is a stunning turn of events. I do not know when Daredevil was last in the Dead Titles Walking category. Before Saladin Ahmed took over the title, Daredevil was a consistent Top 25 seller during the runs of several different writers. Ahmed took the keys to this Ferrari and proceeded to crash it into a wall.

White Tiger #1 threw up all over itself as it debuted outside of the Top 200 and went unranked. Nobody outside of Marvel Comics editorial is surprised by this brutal debut. This is the deadly combination of a mantle-swap character literally no consumers were asking for and writers who have no business writing mainstream superhero comics for Marvel Comics.

The writers for this title are Cynthia Pelayo and Daniel Older. Older is a YA novelist who is known for his ability to make any comic book he writes instantly outside of the Top 200 and unranked. Editorial then paired Older with Cynthia Pelayo, who is a poet and horror novelist. For a mainstream superhero comic book. Seriously. This is why Marvel Comics’ editorial is largely clueless. This is also why so many Marvel Comics immediately die in the sales rankings.

Legacy Character Comics

15 Red Hood #1 (DC Comics)

63 Supergirl #5 (DC Comics)

67 Nightwing #130 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Gotham Academy: First Year #1 (DC Comics)

Unranked: JSA #12 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Teen Titans Go! #7 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Teen Titans Go! #8 (DC Comics)

There were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was better than August 2025, when there were legacy character zero comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as there were zero legacy character titles in the Top 10, one title in the Top 25, and five titles in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Titans #27 ticked up from the number 152 spot to the number 147 spot. DC Comics has clearly given up even trying with the Titans franchise anymore.

Mantle Swap Comics

There was one female lead comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was worse than August 2025, when there was one female lead comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

DC Comics beat Marvel Comics in the Battle of the Top 25 by an embarrassing 1-0 score. Everyone was a loser in this battle.

DC Comics beat Marvel Comics in the Battle of the Top 50 by an underwhelming 2-1 score. Nobody should feel proud of their effort this month.

It is particularly stunning to see how quickly Marvel Comics has fallen off in this category compared to last month. This is not a surprise. New female lead titles follow a similar pattern. They debut with nice sales numbers and then slide down the rankings and fail to establish any sustained sales success. The only exception to this rule is Absolute Wonder Woman.

At some point, Marvel Comics and DC Comics are going to have to start investing in higher-quality talent at the writer position for their female lead titles. The two publishers are also going to have to re-examine how they view, package, and present these characters compared to their male lead characters.

Eighteen of the twenty-four new female lead titles this month were dead titles walking. That is horrific.

Marvel Comics and DC Comics “battled” to an embarrassing 0-0 draw in the Battle of the Top 25.

Marvel Comics won the pillow fight in the Battle of the Top 50 by a pathetic 1-0 score. Neither publisher is a winner in this category. But, at least Marvel Comics appears to be trying to play the game, albeit in a clueless fashion. DC Comics only had one comic in this category this month.

Dead Titles Walking

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, titles outside of the Top 100 are usually selling under the 18,000 unit sales mark. These are the Marvel Comics and DC Comics titles that are dead titles walking.

What is amazing is how dead the Star Trek franchise has become. IDW Publishing has four different Star Trek titles this month, and all of them go unranked. I have never liked Star Trek and know nothing about the franchise. So, I’m not able to speak with expertise on the subject. I am curious if the problems with this franchise lie with Paramount or with IDW Publishing.

Therefore, the Tini Howard Award for September 2025 goes to…Benjamin Percy! Damn. This one hurt me badly. I like Percy, and I think he is capable of turning in some great comics, as evidenced by the fact that he was in the running for the Joshua Williamson Award for this month with two issues from different titles in the Top 50. But I don’t play favorites even when it hurts me. It’s always balls and strikes.

All right, that is it for September 2025. Will Marvel Comics continue its domination of the Top 200 in October 2025? We will find out. Until then, everyone stay safe and be good!
