Target Placed On Team 7 Back In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5

Even when things calm down Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues to escalate the story around the new continuity created by Kawaki. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5 in particular revealed several major plot points that will be driving the rest of the series forward. These revelations open the door to make it clearer how Konohagakure, aka the Hidden Leaf Village, will end up in the destroyed state shown in the flashforward where Kawaki and Boruto were set for their final fight. We also get some information on what Boruto and Sasuke were doing during the blank period between its predecessor series and Two Blue Vortex. Let’s take a look at these major plot developments from Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5.

WHAT HAPPENED WITH BORUTO & SASUKE

The fourth chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex ended with a cliffhanger ending that revealed Sasuke Uchiha present day status quo as being trapped in one of Code’s Grime Trees. This was a status quo that was teased earlier in the chapter when one of the God Tree Grimes that Boruto faced in the Ten-Tails dimension looked like Sasuke.

Now with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5 we got a lot clearer idea of what happened with Bourto and Sasuke during the blank period before the timeskip. Based on the way they talked in the flashback, Boruto appears spent at least a full year of training non-stop with Sasuke. During that time Sasuke was able to teach Boruto everything he knew from jutsu to fighting style. Though Sasuke does tell Boruto while his protege has all the knowledge and training it will be on Boruto to implement his teachings for his own path.

Not long after finishing Boruto’s training Sasuke and Boruto were cornered by Code and his Claw Grimes. With no way for both of them to escape, Sasuke had Boruto make a run for it while he took on Code and the Claw Grimes alone. Boruto would eventually return to the sight of the battle he and his mentor had with Code to find that Sasuke had been captured in a God Tree Grime.

GOD TREE DECLARE TARGETS

While Code ended part one of Boruto as the main antagonist that role has quickly been usurped in Two Blue Vortex. Code’s spot as main antagonist was taken from his own creations as four of the God Tree Claw Grimes that have gained self-awareness. Now in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5 each member of the God Tree group announced their individual goals. These goals place specific characters in danger. The four targets mentioned by each of the God Tree Claw Grimes (now I’m calling them the God Tree Elite Four):

  1. Jūra – The leader of the God Tree group, Jura stated his mission is to devour Naruto Uzumaki. When questioned why, Jura responds that since they are already God Tree’s his desire is pointing him to evolve in new ways. For that reason his instincts are telling him to target a non-Ōtsutsuki in Naruto.
  2. Matsuri – The newest member of the group, Matsuri is a Claw Grime born from when Code captured Moegi Kazamatsuri in a God Tree during his invasion of Konoha. Taking Jura’s advice to follow her instincts to heart, Matsuri announced her target to devour is Konohamaru Sarutobi.
  3. Bug – The Claw Grime born from the similarly named Bug, a former Outer Kara minion who fell under Ada’s infatuation powers, who Code captured at some point in God Tree during the timeskip. Having sensed that Ada was watching their conversation the Bug God Tree declared his target was Ada.
  4. Hidari – The Claw Grime born from Sasuke being captured in a God Tree. Hidari was the last to declare his target. That target was none other than Sasuke and Sakura’s daughter, Sarada Uchiha.

SETTING THE STAGE FOR BORUTO FLASHFORWARD

From a high level, Jura, Matsuri, Bug, and Hidari announcing their targets gives a direction for the rest of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. This development the Elite Four of the God Tree Claw Grimes will likely play a major role in the destroyed state Konohagakure is in the flash forward the Boruto series begins with. Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto could have the God Tree Elite Four could very well play the role Akatsuki had in the original Naruto series. They can be the catalyst for the destruction while Kawaki and Code still ultimately still act as the main antagonists when we get to the point in the story of the flash forward.

The choices for Jura, Matsuri, Bug, and Hidari are not done randomly. All four targets have a relation to Boruto’s Team 7, whether directly or indirectly. With Ada currently being protected by Konoha and becoming friends with Sarada and Sumire during the timeskip she will likely turn to them for help. Ada witnessing the God Tree Elite Four meeting could point to Bug vs Ada being the first battle we will see. Which should bring in Team 7 along with Sumire and Kawaki into the fight.

Matsuri and Hidari are directly targeting Konohamaru and Sarada. Both of these are deeply personal as now Konohamaru and Sarada will be facing the negative reflections of the most important people in their lives, respectively. This helps to elevate both Konohamaru and Sarada from support cast members they were in Boruto to being main characters like Boruto and Kawaki for the rest of Two Blue Vortex.

Adding to the stakes to Team 7 is Jura’s target being Naruto. This target will be tricky as Naruto and Hinata are currently in another dimension stored in cryogenic-like state by Kawaki. This means that for Jura to “devour” Naruto he will have to fight Kawaki. It would also place Jura in conflict with the other Team 7 member Mitsuki, who in the first chapter of Two Blue Vortex made it clear he would do everything to defend Kawaki against Boruto and anyone who would target him. With Mitsuki making that mission statement out right out of the gate the first time we see him after the timeskip he will likely play a role in the fight against Jura.

Not being left out the party, Boruto as the main character made it clear in the previous chapter the God Tree Elite Four will have to fight him during their first battle. Boruto still remembering the bonds he has with his Team 7 teammates will make him play a key role in helping keep them safe. He also has his own personal rival targeting him as Code is still looking to get his revenge on Boruto. That is addition to the bigger conflict with Kawaki and the final battle we know Boruto and Kawaki are set to have.

That’s a lot to set-up in the first five chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Kishimoto and Ikemoto have already established that this second Boruto series will not just be about our title character and Kawaki. There are at least a dozen characters that can play a key role with how this series will end. It certainly creates a lot of excitement for the future of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
