10) Black Widow #15 – “Black Widow vs Living Blade”

When it comes to fight choreography Elena Casagrande, with Elisabeta D’Amico’s inking and Jordie Bellaire’s coloring, is on another level. This fight between Black Widow and Living Blade that takes place over the course of this double page spread is just an example. The movement by both Black Widow and Living Blade is handled expertly as they trade sword strikes and counters. All the while Yelena Belova patches herself up after her own intense fight with Living Blade. Yelena being at the center of the page adds to how Natasha is fighting in a way that Living Blade isn’t able to use her friend against her in their latest rematch.

The other detail that adds to this fight is what preceded it. Earlier, at the end of Black Widow #14, Living Blade cut Natasha’s right arm off. Thanks to quick surgical work by Natasha’s allies she had her arm reattached. The little detail of the bandages on her right arm showing Natasha was bleeding due to using it as her dominant arm in the fight was a great little detail to give the fight even more intensity.

9) Thor #26 – “Hulk Becomes God Of Thunder”

Thor and Hulk have fought countless times in the past so you could say every story involving these two characters has been done. That is until you pick up Hulk vs Thor: Banner Of War. This event was a story straight out of Dragon Ball with Thor and Hulk just bashing each other all over the Marvel Universe. But it is this moment with Hulk with Odin’s help turning into the God of Thunder that you just can’t help but mark out for.

Add in the fact Hulk becoming God of Thunder was necessary because Thor himself absorbed so much Gamma radiation that Hulk’s strength was added to the current All-Father’s God powers. This turned into a battle of two Marvel titans to a fight between two Marvel Gods. All of that is delivered beautifully by Martin Coccolo. He designs for Hulk as God of Thunder and Thor in his own Hulk form just pop off the page.

8) Batman: Urban Legends #16 – “Batman Family Dinner”

Over the last few years in particular we’ve seen Bruce Wayne be much more aware of the importance of family and friends. Even though he continues to be normally distant there has been an effort made to keep up his ties to those closest to him. One of the relationships that hasn’t been on the best note for a while was Bruce’s friendship with Zatanna. That is where Vita Ayala and Nikola Cizmesija came in to explore the state of Bruce and Zatanna’s relationship. In the process we saw not only their friendship repaired but also Zatanna returning to be part of the Batman Family. Zatanna has always been an at least an extended member of the Batman Family and its great seeing her return to having these relationships.

Also making this moment better was Superman as Batman’s best friend couldn’t hide his happiness that Bruce and Zatanna patched things up. That along with Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Duke Thomas, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown’s idea of cooking is ordering a bunch of takeout to eat for dinner just made this ending to the story in Batman: Urban Legends #16 one to remember.

7) Inferno #4 – “Charles Xavier Put In His Place”

It was only a matter of time before all the secrets Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, and Moira MacTaggert were keeping from the rest of Krakoa would come out. They have been doing way to many things from the shadows for it to not blow up in their face when anyone discovered their secrets. And boy did the revelation of their secrets turn into a spectacular pie to the face of the three characters once the Quiet Council learned the truth.

Charles Xavier being the one confronted by Emma Frost and the Quiet Council after is first resurrection made this even more intense. He has constantly presented himself as the King of Krakoa even though the country is promoted as a democracy with how the Quiet Council operate. Emma even saying this with how the Cerebro helmet represents Charles Xavier’s crown as she calls out how knowing his secrets makes the Quiet Council now just as bad as him a chef’s kiss way for Jonathan Hickman to wrap up his X-Men run with.

6) The Flash #787 – “Ultimate DC Universe Tag Team Match”

Wally West’s Flash getting involved in the DC Universe’s version of AEW by finding himself fighting members of the Wrestling Across The Multiverse, or WAM for short, federation is already as awesome as it sounds. Add in how Wally ends up teaming up with the WAM champion known as Omega-Bam-Man how can you not want to see more matches in this wrestling company?

The tag team of Flash and Omega-Bam-Man is made the better by how Wally’s friends and family can’t help but be invested in the matches Wally gets involved in. Fernando Pasarin does a fantastic job with how he adds them all cheering to elevate how much of a spectacle the WAM tag team match Flash and Omega-Bam-Man team-up for even better. There was a great mix of superhero action with the type of pacing you would find in an AEW match.

5) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #132 – “Force Ghost Splinter”

To say Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Jennika have been through a lot since Master Splinter’s death in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #100 it would be an understatement. They no longer have had the luxury of having their father watch for them. The growth the five of them have been through has been handled expertly by Sophie Campbell’s run on IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

But for all that growth we’ve seen how Splinter’s death still weighs heavily on the five Turtles. All those emotions they have buried come out in this reunion they have with the spirit form of Splinter. Pablo Tunica nails how all the emotions just come out as soon as Splinter appears in spirt form. Knowing that Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Jennika all have pain in their hearts and minds from his death Splinter makes sure to use his time to give his kids words of encouragement to push them forward. While the reunion was short it effectively worked to be the push for the Turtles to continue their positive growth as they all move forward as a family.

4) Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 – “Godzilla vs Dragonzord”

A crossover between the Godzilla and Power Rangers franchises is one of those stories you talk to friends about but never think it would happen. But here we are in 2022 with Toei and Hasbro delivering this dream crossover in collaboration with IDW and BOOM! Studios. With such a dream crossover there was no way they wouldn’t come this far in making this a reality with giving us a match-up between Godzilla and the Dragonzord.

For a match you think we would get some build for several issues Cullen Bunn and Freddie Williams instead give us the Godzilla vs Dragonzord match in the first issue of Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Williams absolutely knocks it out of the part with how the scale of both Godzilla and Dragonzord feel massive. There is an epic scale that felt as soon as they both share this double page spread together.

3) X-Men: Red #3 – “Do Not Mess With Magneto”

Magneto has always been a character that you don’t want to be on his bad side. If you did not know that before than you did after Magneto match against Tarn the Uncaring for the Great Ring of Arakko’s Seat Of Loss. Magneto entered the fight knowing exactly who he was fighting and the rules of the match. With that in mind Magneto cleverly used his helmet to crush Tarn the Uncaring skull, not even giving his opponent a chance to land a strike or counterattack.

The pure brutality of further elevated Magneto as one of the Marvel characters you do not want to mess with. The lightning that rains down in the background after Magneto kills Tarn the Uncaring gave greater power to Magneto’s declaration that he is taking the Seat of Loss.

2) Nightwing #96 – “Dick Grayson & Barbara Gordon Official”

Dick Grayson Barbara Gordon Relationship Becomes Official

Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon have been keeping their relationship casual for a while now. It’s gotten to the point everyone around them knew that Dick and Barbara were in a relationship before they would even want to admit it. But after everything they went through to take Blockbuster down we see that they both finally got over the wall they built to make their relationship official and finally became a couple in Nightwing #96.

Its only right that them becoming an official couple was done when Barbara calls out Dick on his reason for why he can’t be in a committed relationship. Barbara rightly talks about both of them being superheroes and that means they’ll always be in danger whether they are a couple or not. Addressing this general problem we see superheroes deal with when it comes to having relationships made them finally committing to each other an even better payoff to all the build up to this moment.

1) Mighty Morphin #22 – “Pink Rangers Of The Multiverse Assemble”

We are in an era of where everyone is now dealing with the Multiverse. It is no longer a niche concept. While no longer a novelty Mighty Morphin #22 arguably delivered the most hype Multiverse moment we’ve ever had with Kimberly Hart summoning every Pink Ranger across all the Power Rangers era to team-up.

This is one of those dream moments that Ryan Parrott and Moises Hidalgo absolutely deliver on what fans would hope it would be. Kimberly leading the other Pink Rangers in Morphin into their respective forms just puts a smile on your face. It is a moment that every single fan of the Power Rangers should experience for themselves. It just does not get better than this.
