IMMORTAL LEGEND BATMAN #3
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Kyle Higgins
Artists: Erica D’urso, Daniel Bayliss, and Dan Mora
Colorist: Igor Monti and Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Becca Carey
Immortal Legend Batman #3 is where this series is really coming into its own. The one-shot approach with each story is doing a lot to help the world building of this universe. We are getting greater insight in what makes Immortal Legend Batman’s Bruce Wayne both similar and different from other versions of the character. That does a lot to how Bruce operates as Immortal Legend Batman and interacts with the world around him.
This focus on quick stories that Immortal Legend Batman is taking helps feel like you are on a journey with the character. This third issue is the best example of that as we learn more about the mythology of this universe. Through that we get some wicked design for Immortal Legend Batman’s version of the Riddler that sets up a cool Super Sentai action sequence. That along with how the back-up continues to develop the bigger story this series will soon tackle makes for an engaging reading experience.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #12
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Dan Mora
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Ariana Maher
Justice League Unlimited #12 is an excellent example of how a tie-in can elevate the story of a big event. While DC K.O. #1 was largely focused on getting over the big ideas of the event Justice League Unlimited #12 immediately focuses on the ground level impact. That impact is a harsh one as it is heroes must deal with pure chaos throughout Earth. You get an even better understanding of the shock of how quickly things escalated in DC K.O.
The quick escalation of the DC K.O. event provides Justice League Unlimited #12 a good way to make this series focus on the displaced Multiverse heroes. These displaced heroes have ended up in a spot they are most needed as a makeshift Justice League led by Mr. Terrific. This set-up all makes Justice League Unlimited feel like the most important series that taking part as a tie-in to DC K.O.

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: HALLOWEEN SPECIAL 2025
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Sina Grace, Meghan Camarena, Danny Lore, Nick Marino
Artists: Sina Grace, Zachary Sterling, Jodi Nishijima, Juan Romera
Colorists: Ellie Wright, Sina Grace, Andrew Cramer, and Joshua Jensen
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Halloween Special is exactly what it needs to be. It is a collection of fun stories that merges the tones of the TV shows and BOOM! Studios Power Rangers Universes well. Every story is written to welcome all fans of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
As fun as all the stories are there due to the anthology nature you can tell which creators thrive and tumble with this format. There are stories that could’ve used some tightening up so they wouldn’t rush through things. It does not get in the way of the overall enjoyment but hopefully it is a learning lesson for those creators. If you’re a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and are looking for some Halloween inspired stories to read check this special out.

SUPERMAN #31
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira
Colorist: Alejandro Sanchez
Letterer: Ariana Maher
Superman #31 does exactly what the DC K.O. needed it to do. This comic book expands on the weight carried with what DC Comics latest big event will be. The quality of the story here sets the bar high for other DC K.O. tie-ins to match or exceed. It does this by placing a focus on the Kent Family and what it means for Superman and Supergirl to take part in a tournament that will decide the fate of the Multiverse.
The focus on the emotional weight Superman carries with his decision shows the strength of his relationship with Lois and his parents. There are a lot of great character focused moments that help strengthen his and Supergirl’s roles in the event. There are also very intriguing developments for Lois Lane that sets her up to take over as the lead of this series during DC K.O.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #12
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Juan Ferreyra
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra held nothing back with how they ended their creative run with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #12. The action was kick ass with Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo showing the strength of fighting as a family. The rewarding action made the developments it led to create even greater interest for what is to come with this series. Click here to read the full review.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #22
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Marco Checchetto
Colorist: Erick Arciniega
Letterer: Cory Petit
Ultimate Spider-Man #22 is such a mixed bag. The things it gets right, like how Peter Parker and Mary Jane are portrayed, is done very well. But the places where the story doesn’t fully connect come across as the creative dropping the ball on development that should’ve been great. Luckily even the scenes that don’t work are lifted up by Marco Checchetto’s fantastic artwork. It ultimately leaves us in a spot where there is enough good to still look forward to how this story will end. Click here to read the full review.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: INCURSION #5
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar
Artist: Jonas Scharf
Colorist: Edgar Delgado
Letterer: Cory Petit
As Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #5 brings this mini-series to a close it ends by highlights more of the bad than good of this story. This mini-series never reached an event-level story it could have had. The creative team was way to focused on checking of things on a list of things to do with this series that the story was always missing something.
The story in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion did no favors to build up the Ultimates or the Maker’s Council. If anything, it made them all look weak in one way or another. The only characters that got some positive development were Miles Morales and Maystorm. Even then Miles’ biggest contribution was being a plot device than fully exploring the impact of visiting another Ultimate Universe. It wasn’t until the end that we got some big character moments for Miles but by then it was too late.
Overall Rating: 3.5 Night Girls out of 10
THE ULTIMATES #17
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Deniz Camp
Artist: Phil Noto
Letterer: Travis Lanham
The Ultimates #17 gives a much-needed spotlight on Ultimate Doctor Doom, aka Ultimate Reed Richards. Deniz Camp does all he can to create an investment in the tortured existence of Ultimate Doctor Doom. His story is a sad one as the only survivor of what was supposed to be the Ultimate Fantastic Four. He is cursed by his immense knowledge that creates a disconnection with the world around him due to what The Maker did to him.
As good of a character spotlight this is for Ultimate Doctor Doom, The Ultimates #17 suffers from the series continued narrow focus. There is a constant feeling that we are missing the rest of the Ultimates in this series. Having only one member featured while the others are either left to cameo appearances or not around in almost every issue is a waste of potential. It leads to an experience that never reaches its full potential because it is lacking the team aspect this series should have. It all drives home that the Ultimates will not be ready for The Maker’s return.
