Top Takeaways From DC Comics August 2025 Solicitations

DC Comics August 2025 comic book solicitations are here! We got a lot big developments going on across the DC Universe. Some of the things we see teased in DC Comics August 2025 solicitations is the end of Batman: H2SH, formation of the Justice League Red, Superman calling Gotham City home, and much more. Let’s take a look at the biggest takeaways from DC Comics August 2025 solicitations.

BATMAN: H2SH COMES TO AN END

As DC Comics August solicitation reveals, the release of Batman #163 will conclude Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s H2SH storyline. Right away the thing that stands out for the solicitation for Batman #163 is that the promoted cover by Jim Lee features the Dark Knight with his rogues gallery surrounding him. And not only are they surrounding him but the way Lee positions them on the cover is reminiscent of previous group shot covers featuring the Batman Family.

Aesthetically this is a striking choice that does make the final cover for the H2SH finally stand out. On a deeper level this leans into the idea that H2SH will have a major impact on the relationship Batman has with his world. The solicitation for Batman #163 teases that fact as what Hush’s greatest accomplishment in his revenge tour may be pushing the Dark Knight to ally himself with all his villains.

This plays into what Loeb and Lee teased in their recent Discord Q&A that covered a wide range of H2SH questions, which DC Comics finally uploaded to their YouTube channel. In that they talked about how what will be the biggest impact that H2SH will have is the relationship Bruce Wayne has with the Batman Family. That includes teasing “addressing the Robin problem.”

We’ve already seen Batman piss off Red Hood for saving Joker. Nightwing and Batgirl are also begrudgingly working with Riddler. Then there is the tease of Damian Wayne’s Robin working with Bane in upcoming chapters of H2SH. So it is safe to say that when the dust settles we will have another status quo where Batman and his family won’t be on the same page anymore. That also leads to the question of what standing Batman will have with his rogues gallery as well.

HAL JORDAN’S FATE KEY TO THE ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE

The Absolute Universe has made all sorts of changes to what fans know about DC Comics characters. From the origins of various characters to villains such as Ra’s Al Ghul and Joker having great influence over how things operate on Earth. One of the bigger changes that isn’t talked about much is what has gone on with Absolute Hal Jordan.

Unlike other iconic DC heroes whose origins have been simply altered for how they ended up in their iconic superhero roles Hal hasn’t been that lucky. Hal’s fate has taken a darker turn as the arrival of Abin Sur has led him to gain the power of the Black Hand. Thus far Hal has been using all his willpower to hold back from being fully corrupted by the Black Hand.

But now it looks like Hal’s efforts to fight off its influences will not be strong enough as Absolute Green Lantern #5 shows that Black Hand has completely consumed him. Given that the current version of the Absolute Universe’s Earth has very little experience with cosmic dealing this is not a good thing for Hal.

We’ve already seen Absolute Barry Allen being eliminated as part of Wally West’s origin as Flash. It would not be surprising if Absolute Hal Jordan ends up suffering a similar fate as Barry. That would play further into how Darkseid has crafted the Absolute Universe to ultimately control all the players as part of his Incursion plan.

BATMAN FORMS HIS OWN POWER RANGERS

Looks like what has happened to him in the DC Universe and Absolute Universe has really done a number on Bruce Wayne. It has been so impactful that he is shifting to focusing in on what his immortal legend will be. And what better way to sure up ones own legend than creating your own Power Rangers team?

Joking aside, DC Comics August solicitations revealed that we are getting what appears to be a Super Sentai-inspired Batman comic book. This comes in the form of a new comic book titled Immortal Legend Batman written by Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom and artwork by Erica D’Urso and Dan Mora. Fans of both BOOM! Studios Power Rangers and Image Comics’ Massive-Verse will know that these names have a long connection with Super Sentai-style stories.

The covers for Immortal Legend Batman #1 hint at Higgins, Groom, D’Urso, and Mora bringing the Super Sentai energy to this series. Both Batman and Robin are wearing armor that is very reminiscent of what we would see in Power Rangers and Massive-Verse. The creative team alone makes Immortal Legend Batman a must-have. Seeing D’Urso and Mora’s designs for the series further drives that home.

ABSOLUTE LEGION LEADS TO SUPERMAN TAKING OVER GOTHAM CITY

The Summer of Superman continues with many things that can have long raging ramifications for the DC Universe. The biggest one is Superman’s battle against Darkseid’s Absolute Legion. This battle will directly have an impact on where we see things go as we are reaching the next phase of the DC All In direction.

What’ll be interesting from Superman #29 is who the ally that Clark Kent is teaming up with to find the lost Legion of Super-Heroes. This could very much well be Booster Gold, who has been trapped by Darkseid. Or it could be some other time traveling character. Whatever the case is it does seem that Joshua Williamson is building towards a Legion of Super-Hero war in the later parts of the year.

Then there is Superman Unlimited #4 solicitation where we find out that Jimmy Olsen will be taking his talents to Gotham City. This is part of what looks to be the Daily Planet’s expansion plans to not simply focus on Metropolis. What bigger city to go to for news than Gotham City?

Jimmy being in Gotham City is one thing but it looks like this move by the Daily Planet is also bringing Superman to Batman’s home. That certainly changes things, especially considering everything going on with Batman: H2SH. If Slott does utilize continuity with his Superman Unlimited it would be interesting how he has to play with other’s work.

That’s not something he normally does as his Marvel run he’s done his own thing. Now working within what’s been set-up for Batman and Superman it does put into question if Superman Unlimited will work in a friendly manner with other creative directions.

JUSTICE LEAGUE RED DEBUTS AS APOKOLIPS IS COMING

It is only a matter of time before the Justice League Unlimited would expand beyond having one ongoing series. We’ve seen DC Comics test the strength of this direction with various spinoff mini-series to Justice League Unlimited. Now we are getting a long-term spinoff in the form of Justice League Red.

What makes Justice League Red intriguing is that their direction will be one of a spec-ops team that no one running the JLU know about. That is why the roster of Power Girl, Cyborg, Deadman, Red Tornado, Green Lantern Simon Baz, and Red Canary. Right away this seems like an odd bunch to have together for a Justice League team.

This roster mostly plays into the idea no one else in the hero community will know about the Justice League Red. The only odd member to include in the roster is Cyborg since he is also a core part of the Titans. There’s also a lack of a detective-like character such as Constantine that could’ve worked for this team.

The expansion of the Justice League Unlimited comes at important time. We are seeing in several titles, including JLU, that Darkseid’s presence is being felt once again. Justice League Unlimited #10 teases the warnings of Apokolips arrival. Relating Apokolips arrival with the destruction of Krypton certainly shows that this is going to a big deal. It will test the true impact the Justice League Unlimited have made with their current direction and what their future is.

AQUAMAN FAMILY FACING DECIDING DC ALL IN BATTLE

DC Comics August 2025 Solicitations: Aquaman #8

Aquaman has been dealing with his own Multiverse-related crisis as he has tried to get his home back from Dagon. In the process he would be freeing the Blue, which is the most important elemental force that has impacted the current state of the Green and Red. Being able to free the Blue from Dagon could send ripple effects that even Darkseid may feel.

If Aquaman is successful the question is still there of what will happen with Atlantis and his family. We are still waiting to see where Mera and the others are. The only hints we’ve gotten that Mera, Tempest, and others are still out there somewhere are from variant covers.

What we may see happen is that if Aquaman defeats Dagon that it could bring in the other elements of things going on in the DC All In direction. Afterall, Aquaman has been elevated to be given the title of New God. And with the Omega symbols constantly being shown Darkseid has to be right around the corner. It would not be surprising if Aquaman discovers some of the things of what Darkseid has been doing since he disappeared to the Absolute Universe.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS LEADING NEW KAIJU WAR

The Fractured Spectrum era has definitely changed the DC Universe in ways that we are still learning about. There is all sorts of new threats that have been rising up as the previous Lantern Corps idea of how the Emotional Spectrum is used is gone. How the Emotional Spectrum is now being used takes us to the new Green Lantern crossover “The Starbreaker Supremacy.”

The solicitations for Green Lantern #26 and Green Lantern Corps #7 confirms that “The Starbreaker Supremacy” is a crossover between both titles. It speaks to what has been built through the Fractured Spectrum era by Jeremy Adams and Morgan Hampton that this does not feel like its to early for both titles to crossover. Even when they are using different Green Lantern characters there is a feeling that they could crossover at any point.

What makes “The Starbreaker Supremacy” interesting is that because of the state of the Emotional Spectrum we are seeing another big change. That change comes in the form of the Emotional Embodiments each Lantern Corp had as living color entities are being changed. We see from the cover for Green Lantern #26 Hal Jordan, Carol Ferris, and Kyle Rayner riding new Emotional Embodiments for the Green, Yellow, and Purple entities. Then there is a new entity for the Sorrow Lanterns. Whatever happens we can at least expect some big Kaiju-style battles during this new crossover story. And I am here for it.

Every few years Detective Comics celebrates a new milestone that not many have hit. That milestone celebration for August will be Detective Comics #1100. This is a milestone that has been building since Detective Comics debuted back in March 1937. That’s 88 years in the making.

With such a big milestone obviously Detective Comics #1100 will be an anthology one-shot with current creative team, Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin, joined by Greg Rucka, Alvaro Martínez Bueno, Mariko Tamaki, Amancay Nahuelpan, Dan Watters, and Bill Sienkiewicz. Making issue 1100 plays into how both Batman and Detective Comics series will be impacted by how H2SH will end.
