Seeing Absolute Batman’s Action from the Other Side
Being able to see how people react to the actions of the heroes provides a needed perspective on a story. It is a reminder that we shouldn’t view the world through the eyes of the hero characters. That’s exactly what both stories by Daniel Warren Johnson and James Warren respectively do. They provide us with the opportunity to get the other side of what it is like to being in the same room as Absolute Batman. It drives home how this take on Batman is different and similar to other takes from another version.
Absolute Batman Frightening Brutality
Getting the different main perspective really framed the brutality of Absolute Batman’s fighting style. This is very much the bone crushing fighting style that aims to for the first blow ensures the opponent won’t get back up. It’s still hitting the classic approach of effective efficiency but in a harsher way. That is a point driven home by the reactions of those receiving and seeing how Absolute Batman fights. It is something that adds to how we view his fights with Black Mask, Bane, and other rogue’s gallery members.
Behind the Scenes of Black Mask’s Party Animal
With Black Mask and the Party Animals being the first villains we saw Absolute Batman take on it made their focus in James Warren’s story more interesting. Warren does a great job at giving more depth to who Black Mask recruited for his Party Animals group. It adds a whole new weight to how we were made to view the group. Seeing the life behind the masks does so much to further shape the Absolute Universe’s version of Gotham City. It does make us wonder if Bruce will take the time to learn more about how his villains use the people of Gotham City against him.
Variety of Art Styles Shines in the Absolute Universe
The big standout from Absolute Batman Annual 2025 is the art styles Daniel Warren Johnson and James Warren used for their respective stories. It really emphasized how what has helped make the Absolute Universe unique is the variety of artwork we’ve been getting. The Absolute Universe is really a chance to break away from the classic DC Comics art style. You can see how Johnson and Warren’s approach to drawing their respective stories takes inspiration from various Batman artists from other Elseworld titles.
