September 2026 Comic Book Sales Rankings

It is time to check out the September 2026 Top 200 comic book sales rankings! We still do not have the comprehensive unit sales figures that would make this analysis easier. Instead, we have ICv2’s sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we must work with what we get.

Keep in mind that ICv2 compiles its rankings using consumer purchases recorded by the ComicHub and Comic Shop Assistant point-of-sale systems. More than 225 stores participated during this reporting period. These are sales to readers through comic stores, rather than publishers’ shipments to retailers.

That is a small, non-random sample of the more than 3,000 stores selling American comics worldwide. It includes different locations and store specialties, but it does not necessarily reflect the results at every comic shop. These rankings give us a useful view of the participating stores, not a complete accounting of the entire comic book market.

I wish we had better data to analyze. Rankings can show us which titles are outperforming others, but they cannot tell us exactly how many copies a comic sold or how much its sales changed. We will keep that distinction in mind as we examine the publishers, franchises, and titles battling for readers’ dollars.

September’s reporting period ran from August 30 through October 3, 2026—a five-week window. ICv2’s accompanying text calls it a four-week month, but the stated dates cover five weeks.

You can head over to ICv2 and check out the Top 50 for September 2026 for free, or get a Pro membership for access to the full Top 200. Then come back here for our detailed analysis of the September 2026 Top 200 comic book sales rankings!

The Battle for the Top 10

DC Comics took first place by placing seven comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month numbers were up from the six comics that DC Comics had in the Top 10 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had six comics in the Top 10 in September 2025.

Numbers were up by a wide margin from two years ago, as DC Comics had three comics in the Top 10 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had four comics in the Top 10 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as DC Comics had four comics in the Top 10 in September 2022.

Numbers were up by a massive margin from five years ago, as DC Comics had two comics in the Top 10 in September 2021.

DC Comics continues to kick ass at the top of the sales chart. Seven comics represent its strongest September Top 10 showing across our six-year comparison window. DC Comics is up compared to last month and every prior September.

Of course, the formula remains familiar. Five of DC Comics’ seven Top 10 issues came from the Absolute Universe. The other two were Batman Day 2026 – Batman of Two Worlds at the number 1 spot and Batman #13 at the number 5 spot. The Absolute Universe and Batman accounted for every single DC Comics entry in the Top 10. Again.

Marvel Comics placed three comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month numbers were down from the four comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 10 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had four comics in the Top 10 in September 2025.

Numbers were down by a massive margin from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in September 2024.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had six comics in the Top 10 in September 2023.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from four years ago, as Marvel Comics had six comics in the Top 10 in September 2022.

Numbers were down by a massive margin from five years ago, as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in September 2021.

Three comics represent Marvel Comics’ weakest September Top 10 showing across our six-year comparison window. Marvel Comics had seven spots just two years ago. Now it has three. That is a brutal loss of ground at the top of the chart.

At least Marvel Comics had three different titles contributing. The problem is that this variety produced less than half as many Top 10 entries as DC Comics. Marvel Comics needs more titles capable of joining them.

Image Comics placed zero comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month numbers were flat, as Image Comics also had zero comics in the Top 10 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat from two years ago, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in September 2024.

Numbers were flat from three years ago, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in September 2023.

Numbers were flat from four years ago, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat from five years ago, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in September 2021.

The Battle for the Top 25

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 11–25 range typically sell in the 80,000 to 50,000-unit range.

DC Comics took first place by placing fourteen comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month numbers were up from the ten comics that DC Comics had in the Top 25 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had ten comics in the Top 25 in September 2025.

Numbers were up by a wide margin from two years ago, as DC Comics had seven comics in the Top 25 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had nine comics in the Top 25 in September 2023.

Numbers were up by a wide margin from four years ago, as DC Comics had seven comics in the Top 25 in September 2022.

Numbers were up by a massive margin from five years ago, as DC Comics had three comics in the Top 25 in September 2021.

DC Comics is an absolute wagon. DC Comics followed its dominating Top 10 performance by beating Marvel Comics 7–6 between the numbers 11 and 25 spots. That widened DC Comics’ lead to a comfortable 14–9 victory in the cumulative Battle for the Top 25. Fourteen comics also represent DC Comics’ strongest September Top 25 showing across our six-year comparison window.

The Absolute Universe and Batman still supplied eleven of DC Comics’ fourteen Top 25 issues, or 79%. Batman Day 2026 – Batman of Two Worlds, Batman #13, and Detective Comics #1113 supplied another three spots. That leaves the three new titles in the Legion of Super-Heroes, Teen Titans, and Doom Patrol that debuted in September accounting for the remaining three entries.

DC Comics is still heavily dependent on the Absolute Universe and Batman. But this month, other properties actually joined the fight. That is a meaningful improvement over August, when every DC Comics issue in the Top 25 came from those two franchises.

Marvel Comics took second place with nine comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month numbers were down from the eleven comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 25 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had thirteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2025.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2024.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2023.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from four years ago, as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in September 2022.

Numbers were down by a massive margin from five years ago, as Marvel Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 25 in September 2021.

There was no comeback for Marvel Comics this month. In August, Marvel Comics recovered from losing the Top 10 and squeezed past DC Comics in the Top 25. This month, Marvel Comics lost both portions of the chart.

Nine comics represent Marvel Comics’ weakest September Top 25 showing across our six-year comparison window. Marvel Comics held sixteen spots in each September from 2022 through 2024. That fell to thirteen last September and just nine this September. This is a brutal trend line.

Marvel Comics still has a varied collection of titles contributing to its Top 25 presence. Unfortunately, that variety is producing fewer spots while DC Comics is finding additional contributors of its own.

Image Comics took third place with two comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month numbers were flat, as Image Comics also had two comics in the Top 25 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as Image Comics had two comics in the Top 25 in September 2025.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 25 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 25 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 25 in September 2022.

Numbers were down from five years ago, as Image Comics had three comics in the Top 25 in September 2021.

Image Comics’ two titles came from the Hasbro franchise and the Spawn franchise.

The Battle for the Top 50

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 26–50 range typically sell in the 49,000 to 30,000-unit range.

DC Comics took first place by placing twenty-five comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were up by a wide margin from the sixteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up by a wide margin, as DC Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were up by a massive margin from two years ago, as DC Comics had ten comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up by a wide margin from four years ago, as DC Comics had thirteen comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were up by a massive margin from five years ago, as DC Comics had ten comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

DC Comics claimed half of the entire Top 50! Twenty-five comics represent its strongest September Top 50 showing across our six-year comparison window. DC Comics added nine spots compared to August and turned a nine-comic loss to Marvel Comics last month into a four-comic victory this month. That is one hell of a turnaround.

Marvel Comics finally put up some resistance by beating DC Comics 12–11 between the numbers 26 and 50 spots. However, that only trimmed DC Comics’ five-comic lead to four. DC Comics had built enough of a Top 25 advantage to withstand Marvel Comics’ push.

The Absolute Universe supplied ten of DC Comics’ twenty-five Top 50 issues. The Batman franchise supplied another ten. Together, those two franchises accounted for 80% of DC Comics’ Top 50 presence. DC Comics remains heavily reliant on these two franchises for all of its sales success.

However, the five other entries matter. Teen Titans #1, Legion of Super-Heroes #1, Doom Patrol #1, Deadman #4, and Superman the Stranger #1 gave DC Comics enough additional support to finish ahead of Marvel Comics. Without those five entries, the twenty comics from Batman and the Absolute Universe would have fallen one short of Marvel Comics’ total.

Marvel Comics took second place with twenty-one comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were down from the twenty-five comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were down by a wide margin, as Marvel Comics had twenty-nine comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were down by a massive margin from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had thirty-three comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had thirty-one comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from four years ago, as Marvel Comics had thirty-two comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from five years ago, as Marvel Comics had thirty comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Welp. Marvel Comics’ August rebound did not last long. Twenty-one comics represent its weakest September Top 50 showing across our six-year comparison window. Marvel Comics had at least thirty spots in every September from 2021 through 2024. Now it has twenty-one. Brutal.

Marvel Comics did add twelve entries between the numbers 26 and 50 spots. There are still plenty of different titles capable of delivering Top 50 rankings for Marvel Comics. The problem is that their combined showing is no longer enough to overwhelm DC Comics. Winning this portion of the chart by a single comic was nowhere near enough to erase the damage from the Top 25.

Image Comics took third place with three comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were down by a wide margin from the seven comics that Image Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Image Comics had five comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were flat from four years ago, as Image Comics had three comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were down from five years ago, as Image Comics had five comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Well, that was a quick retreat from August’s excellent showing. Image Comics lost four of its seven Top 50 spots in one month.

Spawn 77 #1 at the number 15 spot, Transformers #36 at the number 20 spot, and Exquisite Corpses Fox Mask Killer #1 at the number 36 spot accounted for Image Comics’ entire Top 50 presence. Only one additional Image Comics issue appeared between the numbers 26 and 50 spots.

The good news is that Image Comics had more entries outside of Hasbro than inside it, as two of its three Top 50 titles were non-Hasbro titles. The bad news is that the total was just three comics. Having several properties contribute is useful, but Image Comics needs more of those properties delivering Top 50 rankings at the same time.

Dynamite Entertainment took fourth place with one comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were flat, as Dynamite Entertainment also had one comic in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Ben 10 #5 took the number 37 spot and supplied Dynamite Entertainment’s lone Top 50 entry. Five issues into its run, Ben 10 is still giving Dynamite Entertainment a presence in a portion of the September chart where it had none in any of the five prior years we are examining. Amazing. I did not expect Ben 10 to still be a Top 50 seller five issues into its run!

The Battle for the Top 75

Based on historical numbers from Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 51–75 range typically sell in the 29,000 to 25,000-unit range.

DC Comics placed thirty-five comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were up from the thirty comics that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had twenty-six comics in the Top 75 in September 2025.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as DC Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 75 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had twenty-four comics in the Top 75 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as DC Comics had twenty-one comics in the Top 75 in September 2022.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as DC Comics had nineteen comics in the Top 75 in September 2021.

DC Comics just keeps crushing it! Thirty-five titles is easily DC’s strongest September showing in this six-year comparison. DC has more than doubled its September 2024 total. Marvel narrows DC’s lead from four titles in the Top 50 to three titles in the Top 75, but DC still holds the advantage.

Marvel Comics placed thirty-two comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were flat from the thirty-two comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 75 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had forty-three comics in the Top 75 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-six comics in the Top 75 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-six comics in the Top 75 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from four years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-three comics in the Top 75 in September 2022.

Numbers were down from five years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-one comics in the Top 75 in September 2021.

Marvel adds eleven titles in the numbers 51–75 range compared to DC’s ten titles. That allows Marvel to chip away at DC’s lead. However, Marvel’s usual advantage in depth is still not enough to put it ahead of DC.

The year-over-year comparisons are flat-out hideous. Marvel is down eleven titles from September 2025 and fourteen titles from September 2024 and September 2023. Thirty-two titles is Marvel’s weakest September total in this six-year comparison. Holding steady with August offers little comfort when DC is adding five titles to its own total.

Image Comics placed seven comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were down from the ten comics that Image Comics had in the Top 75 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as Image Comics had five comics in the Top 75 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Image Comics had nine comics in the Top 75 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 75 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from four years ago, as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 75 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat from five years ago, as Image Comics had seven comics in the Top 75 in September 2021.

Image gets a welcome boost in this range, adding four titles to its three titles in the Top 50. Terminal #3, G.I. Joe #26, and M.A.S.K. #4 all slot into the Top 75.

The Hasbro properties account for three of Image’s seven Top 75 titles. That remains an important part of Image’s performance, but four titles outside those properties give the publisher a more balanced showing. The decline from August is disappointing. Still, Image is ahead of last September and has put some distance between itself and the remaining smaller publishers.

Dynamite Entertainment placed one comic in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were flat from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 75 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat from two years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 75 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in September 2022.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in September 2021.

The Battle for the Top 100

Based on historical numbers from Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 76–100 range typically sell in the 24,000 to 18,000-unit range.

DC Comics took first place by placing forty-five comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were up from the thirty-nine comics that DC Comics had in the Top 100 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had thirty-four comics in the Top 100 in September 2025.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as DC Comics had twenty-four comics in the Top 100 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as DC Comics had thirty-one comics in the Top 100 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as DC Comics had thirty-one comics in the Top 100 in September 2022.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as DC Comics had thirty-one comics in the Top 100 in September 2021.

DC Comics trucks its way to another Top 100 victory! DC added ten comics between the numbers 76 and 100 spots compared to Marvel’s eight comics. That widened DC’s three-comic lead in the Top 75 to a five-comic victory in the Top 100.

Forty-five comics is DC’s strongest September Top 100 showing across our six-year comparison window. DC has added an insane twenty-one titles in the Top 100 since September 2024. That is wild. DC also turned August’s four-comic loss to Marvel into a five-comic win this month.

Marvel Comics took second place with forty comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were down from the forty-three comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 100 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were down, as Marvel Comics had fifty-five comics in the Top 100 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had fifty-eight comics in the Top 100 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had fifty-seven comics in the Top 100 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from four years ago, as Marvel Comics had fifty-six comics in the Top 100 in September 2022.

Numbers were down from five years ago, as Marvel Comics had forty-nine comics in the Top 100 in September 2021.

There is no late comeback for Marvel Comics this month. Marvel lost ground to DC in the final twenty-five spots and finished with its weakest September Top 100 total across our six-year comparison window.

The historical comparisons are brutal. Marvel has fifteen fewer Top 100 comics than last September and eighteen fewer than September 2024. This is a publisher that controlled well over half of the Top 100 in each September from 2022 through 2025. Now Marvel has just forty titles in the Top 100.

Image Comics took third place with eleven comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were down from the fourteen comics that Image Comics had in the Top 100 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as Image Comics had seven comics in the Top 100 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Image Comics had twelve comics in the Top 100 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 100 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 100 in September 2022.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 100 in September 2021.

Image adds another four comics in this range. That gives Image eight Top 100 comics outside the Hasbro properties compared to three from Hasbro. Image still benefits from those licenses, but its Top 100 presence extends well beyond them.

Losing three spots from August is disappointing. However, eleven comics is Image’s second-best September total in our six-year comparison window. This is a respectable finish, even if Image could not maintain August’s stronger showing.

IDW Publishing took fourth place with two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were down from the three comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 100 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 100 in September 2025.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 100 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 100 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 100 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat from five years ago, as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 100 in September 2021.

IDW finally gets on the board with Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 at the number 94 spot and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #22 at the number 97 spot.

Both comics are sitting uncomfortably close to the Dead Titles Walking threshold. IDW avoided a Top 100 shutout, but having its two highest-ranked comics below the number 90 spot is hardly a strong showing.

Dynamite Entertainment tied for fifth place with one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were flat compared to the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 100 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 100 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat from two years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 100 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from three years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 100 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 100 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat from five years ago, as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 100 in September 2021.

BOOM! Studios tied for fifth place with one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were up from the zero comics that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 100 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as BOOM! Studios had one comic in the Top 100 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat from two years ago, as BOOM! Studios had one comic in the Top 100 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from three years ago, as BOOM! Studios had two comics in the Top 100 in September 2023.

Numbers were down from four years ago, as BOOM! Studios had four comics in the Top 100 in September 2022.

Numbers were down from five years ago, as BOOM! Studios had four comics in the Top 100 in September 2021.

Hellraiser: Resurrections—New Wounds #1 takes the number 77 spot and gets BOOM! Studios back into the Top 100.

Escaping August’s shutout is welcome news. Still, one comic is a thin result for a publisher that had four Top 100 entries in September 2021 and September 2022.

The Joshua Williamson Award For The Writer With The Most Titles In The Top 50

It is time to hand out the Joshua Williamson Award for the writer with the most titles in the Top 50! As always, we will work our way through the contenders before revealing this month’s winner.

We begin with two writers who placed two issues of a single title in the Top 50. Stephanie Phillips scored with Daredevil #6 at the number 9 spot and Daredevil #7 at the number 16 spot. Kelly Thompson placed Absolute Wonder Woman #24 at the number 10 spot and Absolute Wonder Woman #23 at the number 27 spot.

Next, we have five writers who placed two different titles from a single publisher in the Top 50.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson contributed to The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 at the number 17 spot and wrote Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1 at the number 19 spot.

Dan Watters contributed to Detective Comics #1113 at the number 18 spot and wrote Nightwing #142 at the number 39 spot.

Benjamin Percy placed Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8 at the number 23 spot and Punisher #8 at the number 28 spot.

Mark Waid co-wrote Batman/Superman: Weird Al — World’s Weirdest #1 at the number 31 spot and Batman & Robin: Year One — Dynamic Duos #2 at the number 34 spot.

Ryan North placed Fantastic Four #16 at the number 33 spot and Doomquest #4 at the number 40 spot.

Moving up, we have two writers who placed three different titles from a single publisher in the Top 50.

Matt Fraction contributed to Batman Day 2026 — Batman of Two Worlds #1 at the number 1 spot, wrote Batman #13 at the number 5 spot, and co-wrote Batman: Bad Seeds — Sunset #1 at the number 26 spot.

Chip Zdarsky placed Avengers: Armageddon #4 at the number 13 spot, contributed to The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 at the number 17 spot, and wrote Captain America #15 at the number 22 spot.

The next tier belongs to two writers who placed three different titles across multiple publishers in the Top 50. Getting three titles into this range is impressive. Doing it across different publishers adds another dimension to that success.

Che Grayson placed Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadows Hand #1 at the number 6 spot and co-wrote Absolute Catwoman #3 at the number 21 spot for DC Comics. Grayson also placed Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer #1 at the number 36 spot for Image Comics.

Al Ewing placed Absolute Green Lantern #18 at the number 25 spot for DC Comics. Ewing also placed Challenges of Doom: Spider-Man #1 at the number 48 spot and Queen in Black #4 at the number 49 spot for Marvel Comics.

Finally, we have two writers who placed four issues across three different titles in the Top 50. Both accomplished this with a single publisher.

Scott Snyder contributed to Batman Day 2026 — Batman of Two Worlds #1 at the number 1 spot, wrote Absolute Batman #24 at the number 2 spot, co-wrote Absolute Catwoman #3 at the number 21 spot, and wrote Absolute Batman #23 at the number 24 spot. All four issues landed inside the Top 25. That is a strong showing for Snyder and another reminder of how much muscle the Absolute line brings to DC’s sales chart.

Jed MacKay placed DNX #1 at the number 4 spot, X-Men #37 at the number 32 spot, DNX #2 at the number 44 spot, and Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8 at the number 46 spot. Marvel’s DNX event helped MacKay secure four spots in the Top 50 and a share of this month’s award.

Snyder and MacKay finished with a tie! Therefore, we go to a tiebreaker!

Jed MacKay averaged the number 31.5 spot.

Scott Snyder averaged the number 12 spot.

Therefore, the winners of the Joshua Williamson Award for September 2026 is… Scott Snyder! This is the second win in 2026 for Snyder.

151 Queen in Black Defenders of Light and Dark #3

194 Queen in Black Venom Unchained #3

Queen in Black had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

This was worse across the board compared to August 2026, when Queen in Black had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Queen in Black #4 fell from the number 33 spot to the number 49 spot. Queen in Black #5 then plummeted to the number 98 spot. Good lord. Marvel’s big event barely kept its finale inside the Top 100.

This is an ugly finish. The main series entered September outside the Top 25, barely held onto the Top 50 with its fourth issue, and then nearly slipped into Dead Titles Walking with its conclusion. That is not the finish Marvel Comics wanted from a major event.

Queen in Black Defenders of Light and Dark #3 fell from the number 106 spot to the number 151 spot. This three-issue mini-series spent its entire run in Dead Titles Walking. The event branding never translated into a Top 100 appearance.

Queen in Black Venom Unchained #3 fell from the number 150 spot to the number 194 spot. Brutal. This mini-series debuted inside the Top 50, crashed into Dead Titles Walking with its second issue, and finished near the bottom of the Top 200.

Neither mini-series found a late rally. Instead, both concluded with their worst rankings. Between the main series fading and the dedicated tie-ins collapsing, Queen in Black limped across the finish line.

Armageddon

13 Avengers Armageddon #4

22 Captain America #15 (Armageddon)

116 Black Panther / Namor Doomed #1

147 Avengers Armageddon #3 (Resolicitation)

Armageddon had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

This was flat across the board compared to August 2026, when Armageddon had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Avengers Armageddon #4 slipped from the number 12 spot to the number 13 spot. That is a strong result. Four issues into the event, the main series remains comfortably inside the Top 25.

The contrast with Queen in Black is hard to miss. Both events have moved beyond their launch issues, but Armageddon’s main series is holding its position far better. A one-spot decline at this stage is something Marvel Comics should gladly take.

However, Black Panther / Namor Doomed #1 had a poor debut at the number 116 spot. This five-issue spin-off arrived in Dead Titles Walking despite its connection to Armageddon. The event can support a strong main series without making every related launch a hit.

Armageddon’s core remains healthy. Its ability to turn that success into demand for additional titles is another question.

DNX

4 DNX #1

32 X-Men #37 (DNX)

44 DNX #2

71 X-Men #38 (DNX)

75 Fantastic Four #17 (DNX)

DNX had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

September was the event’s launch month, establishing its first monthly comparison point.

DNX #1 had an excellent debut at the number 4 spot. That is precisely the kind of opening Marvel Comics wants from an X-Men event. A Top 5 launch gives the publisher something to celebrate.

Unfortunately, the celebration did not last long. DNX #2 plummeted from the number 4 spot to the number 44 spot. Ouch. DNX went from one of the month’s biggest comics to the lower end of the Top 50 with its second issue. This five-issue mini-series should rebound with the third issue after shipping two issues in September.

Big Guns

23 Wade Wilson Deadpool #8 (Big Guns)

28 Punisher #8 (Big Guns)

Big Guns had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

This was a solid opening for a crossover built around two ongoing titles. Both chapters landed inside the Top 30, giving Big Guns a concentrated presence in the upper portion of the chart.

The event produced as many Top 50 entries as Armageddon and twice as many as Queen in Black this month. That is a respectable result for a smaller crossover. The next test is whether Big Guns can maintain that level as the story continues.

Hasbro Franchise

20 Transformers #36

59 G.I. Joe #26

62 M.A.S.K. #4

107 Void Rivals #34

150 G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #332

182 Void Rivals #33 (Resolicitation)

188 ROM Special #1 (One-Shot) (Resolicitation)

Unranked: G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #110 Hama Files Edition

The Hasbro franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Month-over-month numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but down in the Top 50 compared to August 2026, when the Hasbro franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat across the board, as the Hasbro franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but down in the Top 50 from two years ago, as the Hasbro franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

So much for August’s rebound. The Hasbro franchise went from three Top 50 comics to just one. Transformers is once again doing all the heavy lifting at the top of this publishing line.

Transformers #36 fell from the number 15 spot to the number 20 spot.

G.I. Joe #26 fell from the number 37 spot to the number 59 spot. That’s not great. Last month’s return to the Top 50 lasted exactly one issue. After two consecutive issues at number 51, the climb to number 37 looked encouraging. Now G.I. Joe has slipped below all three of those rankings.

Joshua Williamson’s title has finished outside the Top 50 with three of its last four issues. That is becoming a pattern rather than an occasional stumble. Image Comics needs GI Joe to remain a consistent Top 50 seller.

M.A.S.K. #4 fell from the number 39 spot to the number 62 spot. Welp. I was not expecting that big of a drop after how the first three issues performed. This is disappointing. The relatively small decline with the third issue suggested that M.A.S.K. might be settling into the Top 50. Instead, the fourth issue sent it tumbling out.

M.A.S.K. has now gone from number 6 to number 35 to number 39 to number 62. The launch was excellent, but the title has yet to stop sliding. Image Comics needs this one to find its footing before it follows Void Rivals into the bottom half of the chart.

Void Rivals #34 ticked up from the number 108 spot to the number 107 spot. Void Rivals remains in Dead Titles Walking for the second consecutive issue.

G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #332 fell from the number 117 spot to the number 150 spot. Larry Hama’s ongoing title is moving farther into Dead Titles Walking. Its near escape at number 101 two issues ago now looks increasingly distant.

G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #110 Hama Files Edition went unranked. That makes ten consecutive Hama Files editions that have failed to crack the Top 200. These releases preserve classic material, but they are not generating much traction in this sales chart.

Spawn Franchise

The Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Month-over-month numbers were flat in the Top 10, but up in the Top 25 and Top 50 compared to August 2026, when the Spawn franchise had zero comics in all three tiers.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10, but up in the Top 25 and Top 50, as the Spawn franchise had zero comics in all three tiers in September 2025.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 50, but up in the Top 25 from four years ago, as the Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10, but down in the Top 25 and Top 50 from five years ago, as the Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Spawn 77 #1 had an excellent debut at the number 15 spot. This three-issue mini-series from Todd McFarlane and Mark Spears gives the franchise a much-needed Top 25 hit. I had a good feeling that this title would perform well given Spears’ involvement on this title. Spears has been able to make his Monsters comics huge sales hits. Readers cannot get enough of Spears incredible artwork.

It is great to see Spears having similar success with his Spawn mini-series. There is no doubt that the Spawn brand can still attract attention when it offers readers something interesting. The question is whether Spawn 77 can hold onto its audience after the first-issue excitement fades.

She-Spawn #5 fell from the number 130 spot to the number 161 spot. Gail Simone’s five-issue mini-series concluded deep in Dead Titles Walking after debuting at the number 27 spot. Simon failed to get readers interested in her story as readers fled from this title in large numbers. The second issue crashed to number 138 and then the third went unranked. Simone’s title then limped to the finish as the final two issues were locked firmly in the Dead Titles Walking category.

That is a disappointing run. She-Spawn demonstrated that a strong launch does not guarantee sustained interest. I fully expected this to happen. Simone has never had any real sales success outside of when she has the most iconic brand in all of comics in Uncanny X-Men to help carry her.

Spawn #379 fell from the number 182 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. Good lord. The franchise’s flagship title could not make the chart while its new spin-off landed in the Top 15. That is an enormous gap.

Gunslinger Spawn #58 went unranked for the second consecutive issue. This title has now failed to chart with three of its last four issues.

King Spawn #59 went unranked for the fifth consecutive issue.

Spawn Scorched #53, #54, and #55 also went unranked. All three September releases failed to crack the Top 200. Whatever benefit Image Comics hoped to gain from getting these issues onto shelves in the same month, it did not produce a chart appearance.

Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were flat compared to August 2026, when Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Rook Exodus #11 fell from the number 74 spot to the number 81 spot. Rook Exodus remains Ghost Machine’s strongest performer, but that is becoming a less impressive distinction. The previous issue had already fallen from the number 54 spot to the number 74 spot. This title continues to move in the wrong direction.

Geiger #25 climbed from the number 132 spot to the number 122 spot. Geiger has now spent two consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Redcoat #20 fell from the number 128 spot to the number 155 spot. Redcoat has now spent three consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Hyde Street #13 fell from the number 163 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked.

Hornsby & Halo #16 remained unranked. All sixteen regularly numbered issues have now missed the Top 200. Including the unranked #0 issue, that makes seventeen consecutive releases without a chart appearance.

The Rocketfellers #14 remained unranked for the twelfth consecutive release, counting issues #4–14 and the #0 issue. Its last ranked issue was #3 at number 161.

Godzilla Franchise

94 Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 (IDW Publishing)

Unranked: Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #3 (Marvel Comics)

The Godzilla franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were flat compared to August 2026, when the Godzilla franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Numbers were flat from two years ago, as the Godzilla franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 plummeted from the number 34 spot to the number 94 spot. Brutal. I did not expect such a massive drop in the rankings with just the second issues. These are two popular franchises. Only IDW Publishing is capable of doing less with more.

Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #3 fell from the number 147 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. This five-issue mini-series has gone from number 65 to number 147 to unranked in its first three issues. This is horrendous.

Godzilla has a track record of performing well for Marvel Comics. One year ago, Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #3 took the number 47 spot. Now, the third issue of Marvel’s latest Godzilla mini-series cannot even make the Top 200. Marvel Comics has seemingly lost the plot with their Godzilla comics.

Gerry Duggan has shed readers at an alarming pace. Perhaps teaming up the Big G with a cast of Miles Morales, Kang, Man-Thing, Punisher, Doctor Strange, and Emma Frost was not enough to generate much fan interest.

Numbers were down across the board from five years ago, as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #22 fell from the number 85 spot to the number 97 spot. The flagship is now barely hanging on to a place in the Top 100. The anniversary issue took the number 8 spot just two issues ago. That celebration is now a distant memory.

Last month, the title returned to roughly where it had ranked before the anniversary boost. This month, it fell even lower. IDW Publishing got an excellent result from its milestone issue, but the following two issues have offered no evidence of a sustained improvement.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder #12 fell from the number 198 spot and out of the Top 200 to end up unranked.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #41 remained unranked for the twenty-first consecutive issue. The title’s last ranked issue was #20, which took the number 197 spot. This oversized forty-eight-page issue brought the series to its conclusion, but even the finale could not get it back into the Top 200. That is a disappointing finish for the animated Turtles.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hunger #1 debuted unranked. This one-shot ties into “The City That Never Dies” and features Hun, Slash, and Ninjara.

TMNT: Journeys #13 remained unranked for the twelfth consecutive issue.

Five new releases, one ranked comic, and that lone survivor sitting at number 97. That is a miserable month for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. IDW Publishing’s problem extends beyond its struggling spin-offs. The flagship title itself is now dangerously close to joining them in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Numbers were flat from five years ago, as the Star Trek franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Star Trek #1 debuted at the number 158 spot. Ouch. Christopher Cantwell and Dennis Menheere’s new flagship series puts Seven of Nine in command of the Enterprise-G, but that premise failed to deliver a strong opening ranking. Evidently, readers were not intrigued by this premise. A fresh number one launching during the franchise’s sixtieth anniversary and this new title still debut as a Dead Title Walking. That is a miserable starting position for the title expected to lead this line.

The people in charge of Star Trek continue to display an utter lack of what the consumer is looking for in a Star Trek product. At this point, the brand may be so damaged by the years of mismanagement that there is simply no longer an audience willing to pay for anything Star Trek.

Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special #1 debuted at the number 189 spot. This anthology offered seven stories and a lineup including Brian Michael Bendis, Ryan North, Christopher Cantwell, and Mike Allred. IDW brought recognizable creators and a major anniversary to the table and still barely made the Top 200. What an embarrassment.

Star Trek: Deviations—Evermore #1 debuted outside the Top 200 and went unranked. Another new release, another failure to find a place on the chart. Between the flagship relaunch, anniversary anthology, and this one-shot, IDW had three different opportunities to attract attention. All three were complete sales failures.

Star Trek: Red Shirts—Ghost of the 21st Century #2 was unranked for the second consecutive month.

Star Trek: The Last Starship #11 was unranked for the eleventh consecutive month.

Only two of September’s five Star Trek releases made the Top 200, and both of them were Dead Titles Walking. IDW’s Star Trek line remains a raging dumpster fire.

Numbers were down across the board from five years ago, as the Star Wars franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Six comics in the Top 50 five years ago. Now, Star Wars cannot even get one comic into the Top 100. That is a brutal collapse in chart presence.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett #1 debuted at the number 125 spot. Rodney Barnes and Will Sliney’s seven-issue adaptation opened squarely in the Dead Titles Walking category. Rodney Barnes continues to have zero success on anything he does for Marvel Comics. It is bewildering why Marvel Comics’ editors would continue to jam this round peg in a square hole and suddenly expect a different result. It is one predictable sales failure after another.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett #2 then fell from the number 125 spot and out of the Top 200 to go unranked. Five issues remain in this adaptation, and it is already an unmitigated sales disaster.

Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren #2 fell from the number 95 spot to the number 148 spot. Last month, the debut barely avoided the Dead Titles Walking category. This month, Charles Soule’s title plunged fifty-three spots and landed deep inside it. Whatever hope there was that the second issue might hold near the Top 100 disappeared in a hurry. This five-issue mini-series is doomed to finish as a Dead Title Walking and may be in danger of going unranked by the conclusion.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures—Pathfinders #5 was unranked for the fifth consecutive unranked issues. George Mann’s series has yet to place a single issue in the Top 200. Dark Horse Comics continues to get no traction from this corner of the franchise.

All four new Star Wars issues this month were either in the Dead Titles Walking category or unranked. This once proud franchise remains in complete ruins.

Numbers were down across the board from five years ago, as the Spider-Man franchise had four comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Let’s start with the main man himself: Peter Parker.

Amazing Spider-Man #1000 climbed from the number 23 spot to the number 3 spot. Peter delivered Marvel Comics’ highest-ranked comic of the month. The milestone issue gave the flagship a major boost, but it also supplied the franchise’s entire Top 25 presence. That is a tremendous individual result surrounded by a much weaker supporting lineup.

Challenges of Doom: Spider-Man #1 debuted at the number 48 spot. Al Ewing and David Messina’s one-shot pairing Peter Parker with Doctor Doom just managed to squeeze into the Top 50. That is an ordinary result for a comic featuring two of Marvel Comics’ biggest characters.

Spider-Man: Long Way Home #3 fell from the number 54 spot to the number 73 spot. Jonathan Hickman and Adam Kubert’s five-issue mini-series has now gone from the number 25 spot to the number 54 spot to the number 73 spot. That is not the trajectory I expected from this creative team working with Peter Parker.

Punisher vs. Spider-Man #3 fell from the number 38 spot to the number 87 spot. Ouch. Dan Abnett’s mini-series crashed out of the Top 75. I was not expecting such a large drop given the first two issues’ sales rankings. There is no doubt that Marvel Comics expected much more of a title starring Peter Parker with Frank Castle.

Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day #5 fell from the number 72 spot to the number 99 spot. Last month’s rebound proved short-lived. Dan Slott’s five-issue mini-series concluded just two spots above the Dead Titles Walking category. That is a disappointing finish for this mini-series.

Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone #2 plummeted from the number 42 spot to the number 120 spot. Damn! I expected a sizeable drop after such a soft debut number. But, this was even larger than I expected. This four-issue mini-series reached the Dead Titles Walking category with just its second issue. Kevin Smith, Andrew McElfresh, and R.B. Silva combined Spider-Man and the Hulk and still could not keep this title in the Top 100. Kevin Smith continues to display little ability to attract the consumer’s attention.

Let’s check out the knock-off Spider-Men.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 fell from the number 5 spot to the number 43 spot. Brutal. Bryan Hill’s relaunch completely cratered after posting a Top 5 debut. Having said that, this was entirely predictable. Hill has never had anything resembling sales success in his prior work for Marvel Comics. On top of that, Miles Morales has always struggled to find any sustained sales success in the charts. The big question over the next few issues is if this title can arrest its slide and remain firmly in the Top 75 or if it will drop into the Dead Titles will tell us whether this title can settle here or keep sliding.

Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1 debuted at the number 89 spot. Joe Kelly and Jack Kelly’s story featuring alternate versions of Miles Morales, Laura Kinney, and Illyana Rasputin failed to crack the Top 75. That is a weak debut for the story bookending Marvel’s Mangaverse anniversary specials.

Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Destiny #1 then debuted outside the Top 200 and went unranked.

Let’s hop over to the Venomverse.

Amazing Venom #1 debuted at the number 38 spot. Jordan Morris and Luke Ross’s five-issue mini-series delivered the franchise’s second-highest ranking. That is an average opening for a title starring Fred Myers and his symbiote, Passenger. Now comes the familiar challenge: keeping enough of that debut audience to remain in the Top 50.

Venom #261 fell from the number 61 spot to the number 64 spot. Venom #262 then plummeted from the number 64 spot to the number 134 spot. Shipping two issues in one month produced wildly different rankings, with the second landing deep in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Queen in Black: Venom Unchained #3 fell from the number 150 spot to the number 194 spot. This three-issue mini-series concluded barely inside the Top 200. This mini-series was a sales failure as its run went from number 47 to number 150 to number 194. That is a brutal slide in the rankings.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Spider-Man franchise.

Black Cat #14 climbed from the number 79 spot to the number 65 spot. This is a welcome rebound after last month’s sharp decline.

Spider-Woman 50th Anniversary Special #1 debuted at the number 74 spot. Ann Nocenti and Dan Watters’ celebration of Jessica Drew managed to just sneak inside the Top 75. Another milestone special, another modest ranking.

The X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in September 2026. Month-over-month numbers were up in the Top 10 and Top 25, but flat in the Top 50, as the X-Men franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but down in the Top 50, as the X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were down across the board from two years ago, as the X-Men franchise had five comics in the Top 10, ten comics in the Top 25, and thirteen comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down across the board from three years ago, as the X-Men franchise had three comics in the Top 10, eight comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up in the Top 10 and Top 50, but flat in the Top 25 from four years ago, as the X-Men franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but down in the Top 50 from five years ago, as the September 2021 X-Men franchise inventory had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

Let’s start with the team titles.

DNX #1 debuted at the number 4 spot. DNX #2 then plummeted from the number 4 spot to the number 44 spot. Jed MacKay’s five-issue event delivered the franchise’s highest-ranked comic. I fully expect to see DNX #3 rebound in the sales chart next month.

X-Men #37 climbed from the number 56 spot to the number 32 spot. X-Men #38 then fell from the number 32 spot to the number 71 spot. The DNX tie-ins gave MacKay’s ongoing title another uneven month. Neither issue in September matched the number 17 ranking that X-Men #35 earned in August.

Uncanny X-Men #35 fell from the number 27 spot to the number 35 spot. Uncanny X-Men #36 then plummeted from the number 35 spot to the number 79 spot. Ouch. Gail Simone’s title went from placing both August issues inside the Top 30 to putting neither September issue in that range. The second issue barely remained in the Top 80. That is an ugly month for Marvel’s most iconic team brand.

X-Men United #7 plummeted from the number 43 spot to the number 115 spot. Brutal. So much for last month’s recovery. Eve L. Ewing’s title fell like a shot bird and crashed straight into the Dead Titles Walking category. This is just Eve Ewing returning to where we always find her titles. It is what you expect from a sociology professor cosplaying as a comic book writer.

X-Men ’97: Season Two #4 fell from the number 93 spot to the number 101 spot. Steve Foxe’s five-issue mini-series crossed into the Dead Titles Walking category with its penultimate issue. The animated team has steadily lost ground. We shall see if the finale can avoid concluding as a Dead Title Walking.

Inglorious X-Force #9 fell from the number 125 spot to the number 131 spot. Tim Seeley’s title has now spent two consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category following its brief escape with issue #7.

X-Men: Outback #4 climbed from the number 162 spot to the number 143 spot. Steve Orlando’s mini-series remains a Dead Title Walking for the third consecutive issue. This is what we expect from an Orlando penned title.

X-Men: Omega Red Dawn #1 debuted at the number 112 spot. This one-shot collects previously digital material from X-Men Infinity Comic #1–10.

Let’s check out the dudes of the X-Men franchise.

Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1 debuted at the number 19 spot. That is a great debut for Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s one-shot issue. This issue was also the highest-ranked comic outside DNX. Pairing Wolverine with the Hulk worked considerably better than Wolverine’s solo title this month.

Wolverine #27 climbed from the number 91 spot to the number 68 spot. Wolverine #28 then fell from the number 68 spot to the number 91 spot. Saladin Ahmed’s title ended right back where it began. Wolverine should be performing much better than this in the sales rankings.

Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8 climbed from the number 58 spot to the number 23 spot. Benjamin Percy’s Big Guns crossover supplied a substantial boost and returned Deadpool to the Top 25. That is the kind of improvement Marvel Comics wants from an ongoing-series tie-in. Now the question is whether Wade can hold that stronger position after the crossover concludes.

Gambit Gone #1 had a poor debut at the number 57 spot. Steve Orlando’s five-issue mini-series had a soft opening which gives it limited room to absorb the usual second-issue decline. This is just more of what we always get with an Orlando penned title. Only a Marvel Comics editor would be surprised by this result.

Gambit: Wanted #3 fell from the number 70 spot to the number 104 spot. Chris Claremont’s mini-series has now gone from number 11 to number 70 to number 104. What a horrendous fall in the sales rankings.

Bishop #4 fell from the number 116 spot to the number 175 spot. Saladin Ahmed’s mini-series continues to crater in spectacular fashion in the sales rankings. Bishop has spent three consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category. The final issue is going to struggle to remain ranked in the Top 200.

Let’s wrap up with the remaining mutant-led titles.

Generation X-23 #8 fell from the number 114 spot to the number 169 spot. Jody Houser’s title gave back its recent improvement and moved deeper into the Dead Titles Walking category. Even a story featuring Logan, Laura, and Gabby could not get this issue anywhere near the Top 100.

Tomb of Apocalypse #2 plummeted from the number 100 spot to the number 177 spot. Ashley Allen’s five-issue mini-series barely avoided the Dead Titles Walking category with its debut. The second issue removed any suspense. A seventy-seven-spot decline leaves this title struggling to remain ranked with three issues still to come.

Marvel Mangaverse: Ghostlocke #1 debuted at the number 114 spot. Alyssa Wong’s reimagining of Kwannon as a Ghost Rider landed directly in the Dead Titles Walking category. Zero surprise. Everything Wong writes for Marvel Comics is a sales failure.

The Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in September 2026. Month-over-month numbers were flat in the Top 10, up in the Top 25, and down in the Top 50, as the Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Let’s start with the team titles.

Avengers: Armageddon #4 fell from the number 12 spot to the number 13 spot. That is an excellent hold for the fourth issue of a five-issue event. Marvel Comics is certainly pleased with this big event title.

Civil War: Unmasked #5 fell from the number 165 spot and out of the Top 200 to go unranked. Christos Gage’s five-issue mini-series ended with a thud. This mini-series was a massive sales failure as it spent its entire run in the Dead Titles Walking category before concluding unranked. Marvel Comics completely misread the market with this title.

Let’s check out the dudes of the Avengers franchise.

Captain America #15 climbed from the number 24 spot to the number 22 spot. Steve Rogers remains firmly inside the Top 25. Chip Zdarsky’s title has now placed three consecutive issues in the Top 25, with rankings of 20, 24, and 22. That is welcome consistency.

Iron Man #9 fell from the number 40 spot to the number 60 spot. Last month’s recovery did not last. Joshua Williamson’s title dropped out of the Top 50 again, continuing its recent pattern of bouncing above and below that cutoff. Mr. Emma Frost continues to struggle to maintain any positive momentum on a consistent basis.

Thor #801 fell from the number 41 spot to the number 76 spot. There goes much of the anniversary boost. The eight-hundredth issue lifted Thor out of the Dead Titles Walking category, but the follow-up could not remain in the Top 50.

Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1 debuted at the number 116 spot. Ouch. Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan’s five-issue mini-series opened directly in the Dead Titles Walking category. This story spins out of Captain America and Avengers: Armageddon. However, the big event rub was not able to give this issue much of a sales boost.

Marvel Knights: The World to Come #6 climbed from the number 155 spot to the number 132 spot. Christopher Priest and Joe Quesada’s Black Panther mini-series was a sales failure.

Let’s wrap up with the Mangaverse specials.

Marvel Mangaverse: Arcane Avengers #1 had an ugly debut at the number 174 spot. Ashley Allen and Mirka Andolfo’s one-shot recasts the Winter Soldier as the leader of a team of sorcerers. Allen continues to struggle to find much sales success with Marvel Comics.

Marvel Mangaverse: Iron Knight #1 had a hideous debut at the number 185 spot. Cody Ziglar and Kei Zama’s one-shot pairs Riri Williams with Moon Knight in a magical version of Chicago. This was entirely predictable as this issue paired a writer who has never had sales success with a character that has never had any sales success.

Fantastic Four Franchise

4 DNX #1

33 Fantastic Four #16

40 Doomquest #4

44 DNX #2

75 Fantastic Four #17 (DNX)

88 Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom Triumph and Torment #1

116 Black Panther / Namor Doomed #1

Unranked: Fantastic Four First Foes – Dragon Man #1

The Fantastic Four franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 10 and Top 50, but flat in the Top 25 compared to August 2026, when the franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were better in the Top 10 and Top 50, but down in the Top 25, as the Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were better across the board from two years ago, as the Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were better across the board from three years ago, as the Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were better across the board from four years ago, as the Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were better across the board from five years ago, as the Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

Fantastic Four #16 fell from the number 20 spot to the number 33 spot. That ended the title’s brief return to the Top 25 following August’s oversized anniversary issue. Still, a regular issue landing comfortably inside the Top 50 is a respectable result.

Then Fantastic Four #17 plummeted from the number 33 spot to the number 75 spot. The DNX tie-in did not prevent the second issue of the month from falling outside the Top 50. Whatever excitement the crossover generated for the franchise overall, it did not translate into a stronger ranking for this issue of the ongoing series.

Doomquest #4 climbed from the number 64 spot to the number 40 spot. After slipping outside the Top 50 with its previous issue, Ryan North’s Doctor Doom series fought its way back into that tier. The question now is whether it can hold that position.

Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom Triumph and Torment #1 took the number 88 spot. This is a new edition of an older story. Getting a reprint of the Roger Stern and Mike Mignola story into the Top 100 is a respectable showing.

Fantastic Four First Foes – Dragon Man #1 crashed and burned as it failed to debut in the Top 200 and went unranked. Greg Pak and Mark Buckingham’s movie-universe one-shot was an embarrassing sales failure. Of course, thinking that there was an audience for a comic based on a movie that bombed in the movie theaters is something that only a Marvel Comics editor would do.

The Ultimate Universe

168 Ultimate Impact Reborn #5

The Ultimate Universe had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was flat across the board compared to August 2026, when the Ultimate Universe also had zero comics in all three tiers.

Year-over-year numbers were down across the board, as the Ultimate Universe had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Ultimate Impact Reborn #5 plummeted from the number 87 spot to the number 168 spot. Ouch. August’s escape from the Dead Titles Walking category lasted exactly one issue. Chris Condon and Stefano Caselli’s five-issue mini-series finished with its worst ranking of the entire run.

The progression tells the story: number 25, number 94, number 114, number 87, and number 168. Four of the five issues finished outside the Top 50, and two landed in the Dead Titles Walking category. That is a terrible result for the follow-up to a publishing line that was delivering multiple Top 50 comics a year ago.

I still think ending the Ultimate Universe was an enormous mistake. This follow-up has done nothing to change my mind. Marvel went from eight Top 50 entries in September 2025 to a single comic at number 168 in September 2026. Whatever the long-term editorial plan may be, the immediate result is a massive hole in Marvel’s sales chart.

The Batman franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 10 and Top 50, but flat in the Top 25 compared to August 2026, when the franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Batman Day 2026 – Batman of Two Worlds #1 debuted at the number 1 spot. What a result! This one-shot paired new stories featuring the regular DCU Batman and Absolute Batman, giving readers two versions of Bruce Wayne in one package. DC turned its annual Batman celebration into the highest-ranking comic of the month. That is how you capitalize on your most popular character.

Batman #13 dipped from the number 2 spot to the number 5 spot. That is still an excellent performance. Matt Fraction’s ongoing series remained firmly inside the Top 5 as it entered the Bad Seeds crossover.

Detective Comics #1113 rocketed from the number 80 spot to the number 18 spot. Damn! The Bad Seeds tie-in story catapulted Detective Comics back into the Top 25 and substantially narrowed the gap between Batman’s two flagship ongoing titles. This is exactly what every publisher desires in a big event story. Of course, the challenge is maintaining that stronger position once the crossover ends.

Batman & Robin Year One Dynamic Duos #2 fell from the number 13 spot to the number 34 spot. That is a sizable decline from the debut, although Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s series remains comfortably inside the Top 50. The next issue needs to slow that slide.

Batman Superman Weird Al World’s Weirdest #1 debuted at the number 31 spot. Pairing DC’s two biggest superheroes with Weird Al delivered a respectable Top 50 finish for this one-shot. It is also good to see an unconventional project find an audience alongside the usual superhero events and ongoing titles.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #55 dropped from the number 75 spot to the number 85 spot. While much of the Batman line improved, this title continued moving in the wrong direction. Pairing DC’s two biggest superheroes should produce a stronger result than this.

Batman Bad Seeds Gotham Central #1 debuted at the number 29 spot. That is a solid opening for Christopher Cantwell and Jacob Phillips’ two-issue mini-series focused on Gotham’s police officers. A supporting event title without Batman as its lead securing a Top 30 debut is an encouraging result. Now we will see how the second issue holds up.

Let’s check out the lone Bat-boy title.

Nightwing #142 climbed from the number 55 spot to the number 39 spot. Dick Grayson returned to the Top 50 after slipping out last month. We shall see if this title can keep that momentum going with the next issue.

Let’s check out the one villain title.

Clayface Celebrity Dirt #3 fell from the number 30 spot to the number 56 spot. The six-issue mini-series has now gone from number 16 to number 30 to number 56. That is a steady slide, and the halfway point finds Clayface outside the Top 50.

Let’s check out the ladies of the Batman franchise.

Batgirl #23 climbed from the number 78 spot to the number 41 spot. That gives Cassandra Cain two consecutive months of climbing up in the rankings and a return to the Top 50. Bad Seed succeeds in pulling up a poorly selling title and shoving it into the Top 50. Bad Seed continues to impress.

Batwoman #7 climbed from the number 64 spot to the number 45 spot. Yet another Bad Seed bump! This big event is benefiting all of the weaker selling Batman franchise titles.

Barbara Gordon Breakout #5 fell from the number 29 spot to the number 55 spot. Welp. Not even Bad Seed can perform miracles. Mariko Tamaki’s title moved in the opposite direction, surrendering her Top 50 position while the crossover titles around her improved.

Poison Ivy #48 climbed from the number 88 spot to the number 69 spot. That is another improvement, although G. Willow Wilson’s title remains outside the Top 50 despite Ivy’s central role in Bad Seeds.

Catwoman #91 climbed from the number 143 spot to the number 83 spot. Selina escaped the Dead Titles Walking category with room to spare. Behold the power of Bad Seeds to resurrect the dead! I am sure this will be just a temporary sales bump.

Harley Quinn #66 climbed from the number 166 spot to the number 100 spot. Bad Seed pulls off its most herculean task by lifting Harley Quinn out of the Dead Titles Walking category by the narrowest possible margin!

The franchise improved its Top 50 count, but the ongoing titles all finished outside that tier. That is a disappointing result for a line in the middle of a crossover. DC Comics needs a stronger foundation than occasional debuts and specials.

Let’s start with the Man of Steel.

Superman the Stranger #1 debuted at the number 50 spot. Wes Craig writes and draws this six-issue Black Label mini-series, which returns Clark Kent to a 1938 version of Metropolis. That is an appealing premise, but this is an unimpressive opening. Landing on the very edge of the Top 50 leaves little room for the usual second-issue decline.

Superman #42 fell from the number 59 spot to the number 67 spot. Joshua Williamson’s flagship title lost ground for the second consecutive issue. The Kingdom of Zod crossover has not restored this title to the Top 50. Superman should be setting the pace for his franchise, and this is nowhere near where DC Comics needs its flagship title to finish.

Action Comics #1102 dropped from the number 52 spot to the number 70 spot. Last month, the title was within striking distance of the Top 50. Now, it is barely inside the Top 75. Another disappointing result for one of DC Comics’ most recognizable titles.

Superman Unlimited #17 fell from the number 82 spot to the number 92 spot. That ends two consecutive issues of improvement for Dan Slott’s title. Instead of continuing toward the Top 75, Superman Unlimited is drifting back toward the Dead Titles Walking category.

Superman Kingdom of Zod Special #1 debuted at the number 103 spot. Ouch. The crossover’s concluding one-shot could not even crack the Top 100. An event finale should be a destination for readers following the participating titles. Finishing below every ongoing tie-in is an ugly result.

Adventures of Superman Book of El #12 fell from the number 158 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s twelve-issue mini-series ended with a whimper. This limited series was a sales failure.

Superman Father of Tomorrow #5 fell from the number 192 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Just when you could not think it could get worse for this six-issue mini-series as the first four issues were in the Dead Titles Walking category. Now, this title is unranked by the fifth issue. It will be a struggle for this title to conclude ranked in the Top 200 with the final issue.

Let’s move over to the Little Red S.

Supergirl #17 dropped from the number 45 spot to the number 72 spot. So much for that momentum. After three consecutive issues of improvement, Sophie Campbell’s title surrendered twenty-seven spots and fell out of the Top 50. All four ongoing Kingdom of Zod titles declined this month. That is a brutal result for this crossover.

Supergirl Survive #4 fell from the number 110 spot to the number 145 spot. Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan’s six-issue mini-series is a complete sales disaster. Three consecutive issues have now landed in the Dead Titles Walking category, including the unranked second issue. There continues to be zero consumer interest in this alternate take on Kara.

Let’s wrap up with the lone villain title.

Bizarro Year None #3 plummeted from the number 107 spot to the number 176 spot. There is no demand at all for Kevin Smith’s four-issue mini-series. That is a pathetic position for a title that opened at number 41.

The Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but worse in the Top 50 compared to August 2026, when the franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but worse in the Top 50, as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10, but down in the Top 25 and Top 50 from two years ago, as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down across the board from three years ago, as the Justice League franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were flat from four years ago, as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Numbers were flat from five years ago, as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

The Justice League franchise was completely shut out of the Top 50. That is an unacceptable result for a group containing so many of DC Comics’ most recognizable superheroes. Last month’s two Top 50 performers both slipped out, and nobody stepped up to replace them.

Let’s start with the team titles.

Justice League Unlimited #23 climbed from the number 71 spot to the number 53 spot. That is a welcome rebound, and it makes this the franchise’s highest-ranking comic. However, being the best performer in this group is a low bar this month. Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s flagship team title still could not make the Top 50. DC Comics should expect considerably more from this property and this creative team.

JSA #23 fell from the number 101 spot to the number 128 spot. Last month, the title came within one position of escaping the Dead Titles Walking category. This month? The JSA fell back into the depths of the Dead Titles Walking category. This title continues to struggle.

Dark Knights of Steel II #3 dropped from the number 66 spot to the number 93 spot. Yikes. This twelve-issue mini-series has now fallen from number 31 to number 66 to number 93 across its first three issues. That is a whole truckload of no bueno right there. Next issue is going to be pivotal. Having this limited series be stuck in the Dead Titles Walking category with just the fourth issue would be brutal.

DC X Sonic the Hedgehog Metal Legion #5 dropped from the number 68 spot to the number 105 spot. So much for last month’s recovery. This five-issue mini-series finished back in the Dead Titles Walking category. This was a disappointing ending for this mini-series.

Let’s move over to the dudes of the Justice League franchise.

Fury of Firestorm #6 fell from the number 44 spot to the number 61 spot. Damn. After holding almost steady last month, Firestorm finally fell out of the Top 50. Ronnie Raymond remains one of the Justice League franchise’s better performers, but this is a disappointing setback.

Lobo #7 dropped from the number 48 spot to the number 63 spot. This is the second consecutive issue to lose ground. Skottie Young’s title has gone from number 26 to number 48 to number 63 across its last three issues. The Main Man needs to put the brakes on that slide.

The Flash #37 ticked up from the number 136 spot to the number 130 spot. This is the fifth consecutive issue in the Dead Titles Walking category. DC Comics should be embarrassed that the Flash has sunk to such lows.

Emperor Aquaman #21 dropped from the number 123 spot to the number 157 spot. The Emperor branding has helped to breathe new life into this moribund title.

Let’s check out the Green Lantern titles.

Green Lantern #39 climbed from the number 157 spot to the number 118 spot. This makes it the fifth consecutive issue that Green Lanterns has been in the Dead Titles Walking category. There remains no real consumer interest in this Kyle Rayner centered title.

Green Lantern Corps #20 fell from the number 131 spot to the number 142 spot. This title has now spent fourteen consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category. Overall, sixteen of its twenty issues have been in the Dead Titles Walking category. At some point, even the clueless DC Comics editors will have to realize they need to replace Morgan Hampton as the writer on this title.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Justice League franchise.

Wonder Woman #37 fell from the number 76 spot to the number 86 spot. That follows the previous issue’s decline from number 49. Tom King’s title has gone from a Top 50 performer to a comic approaching the bottom of the Top 100 in just two issues.

Wonder Woman 2026 Annual Wonder War The Matriarch Special #1 debuted at the number 123 spot. Stephanie Williams and Leah Williams’ one-shot opened in the Dead Titles Walking category.

We all saw this coming from a zillion miles away. These are writers who have never had anything remotely resembling sales success. The fact that DC Comics editorial still rolled this writing team out expecting a different result is why I have limited faith in DC Comics.

Zatanna #6 plummeted from the number 53 spot to the number 96 spot. Holy crap! I did not see this title completely falling off a cliff like this. Two issues ago, Zatanna was sitting pretty at number 24. Now, it is barely inside the Top 100. Jamal Campbell’s series is quickly shedding readers.

The Absolute Universe

2 Absolute Batman #24

6 Absolute Cassandra Cain The Shadow’s Hand #1 (One-Shot)

8 Absolute Superman #23

27 Absolute Wonder Woman #23 (Resolicitation)

137 Absolute Batman #22 (Resolicitation)

162 Absolute Batman #20 (Resolicitation)

170 Absolute Flash #18 (Resolicitation)

196 Absolute Batman #21 (Resolicitation)

The Absolute Universe had five comics in the Top 10, eight comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10, but better in the Top 25 and Top 50 compared to August 2026, when the franchise had five comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were better in the Top 10 and Top 25, but flat in the Top 50, as the Absolute Universe had four comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Seven new issues. Seven Top 30 finishes. Five in the Top 10. The Absolute Universe remains a sales juggernaut.

The cumulative totals improved, although returning issues supplied three of the franchise’s ten Top 50 entries. Among the seven new releases, six made the Top 25. That is still an excellent performance, even if it falls slightly short of last month’s seven-for-seven showing.

Absolute Batman #24 dipped from the number 1 spot to the number 2 spot. Twenty-four issues into its run, Scott Snyder’s title remains an elite performer. This is the kind of sustained success that publishers dream about.

Absolute Cassandra Cain The Shadow’s Hand #1 debuted at the number 6 spot. That is an outstanding debut number for this one-shot from writer Che Grayson and artist Matias Bergara. The Absolute Universe continues to demonstrate that its success extends beyond its original headliners. DC Comics has created a publishing line where an additional character spotlight can immediately compete near the top of the chart.

Absolute Green Arrow #5 fell from the number 3 spot to the number 7 spot. Four positions down, but another excellent Top 10 finish. Pornsak Pichetshote and Rafael Albuquerque’s six-issue mini-series heads toward its finale in a strong position. Five issues into the run, this is well beyond the point where first-issue curiosity can explain its ranking.

Absolute Superman #23 dropped from the number 4 spot to the number 8 spot. Jason Aaron’s title gave back some of last month’s improvement but stayed comfortably inside the Top 10. That remains a strong result for a series this far into its run.

Absolute Wonder Woman #24 held steady at the number 10 spot. Holding that position with a twenty-fourth issue is an achievement.

Absolute Green Lantern #18 fell from the number 19 spot to the number 25 spot. Last month’s dramatic rebound did not lead to another improvement, but Al Ewing’s title retained its Top 25 position. That is a respectable follow-up after the seventeenth issue brought the series back from number 73.

Absolute Flash #19 dropped from the number 21 spot to the number 30 spot. This is the second consecutive issue to lose ground. Jeff Lemire’s title remains a solid Top 50 performer, but it is the only new Absolute issue this month to finish outside the Top 25.

The Absolute Universe also placed ten previously released issues in the Top 200, bringing its total chart presence to seventeen entries. Absolute Batman accounted for six of the ten resolicited issues. Insane. Absolute Batman is the only Absolute Universe title that had more than one resolicited issue in the Top 200.

Supernatural Comics

47 Deadman #4 (Of 12) (DC Comics)

54 Crowbound #1 (Image Comics)

66 Marvel Zombies War Zone #1 (Of 5) (Marvel Comics)

77 Hellraiser Resurrections New Wounds #1 (One-Shot) (BOOM! Studios)

172 Supernatural Wayward Special #1 (One-Shot) (Dynamite Entertainment)

186 Bleeding Hearts #8 (DC Comics)

187 Black Tower The Raven Conspiracy #2 (Of 6) (DC Comics)

191 Feral #26 (Image Comics)

197 Creepshow Volume 5 #1 (Image Comics)

199 Sorcerer Supreme #10 (Marvel Comics)

Deadman #4 fell from the number 28 spot to the number 47 spot. That is a disappointing reversal after last month’s impressive rebound. Still, Boston Brand retained a Top 50 position. It will be interesting to see how this six-issue mini-series that got expanded into a twelve issue mini-series performs over the next few months.

Crowbound #1 debuted at the number 54 spot. Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s new dark fantasy series narrowly missed the Top 50. That is a respectable opening for a new creator-owned property, although the second issue will provide a better indication of where this title might settle.

Marvel Zombies War Zone #1 debuted at the number 66 spot. That is a soft opening for a five-issue mini-series carrying the Marvel Zombies name.

Doctor Strange #10 dropped from the number 133 spot to the number 165 spot. Stephen Strange remains buried in the Dead Titles Walking category for the eighth consecutive issue. This is a poor result for a character who should be capable of supporting a much stronger ongoing title.

Sorcerer Supreme #10 fell from the number 152 spot to the number 199 spot. Oof. Steve Orlando’s title came within one position of falling out of the Top 200. This title is the combination of two things that always fail in the sales chart: Steve Orlando and a mantle swap gimmick. This is another example of why I have limited faith in Marvel Comics’ editors.

Bleeding Hearts #8 plummeted from the number 92 spot to the number 186 spot. Holy crap! This title plummeted like a shot duck! Deniz Camp’s title went from holding a Top 100 position to barely staying on the chart.

Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy #2 fell from the number 127 spot to the number 187 spot. Ram V and Mike Perkins’ six-issue mini-series looks well on its way to being unranked. This is not surprising given that Ram V usually struggles in the sales chart.

Let’s check out the return of of a classic 1980s franchise: Hellraiser!

Hellraiser Resurrections: New Wounds #1 debuted at the number 77 spot. Mike Costa’s one-shot delivered the strongest result of the five specials launching this new phase of the property. Even so, the best result was outside the Top 75.

Hellraiser Resurrections: The Onanistic Ritual #1 debuted at the number 106 spot. Zac Thompson’s one-shot immediately landed in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Hellraiser Resurrections: The Deep Gospel #1 debuted at the number 111 spot. Tini Howard’s contribution also opened in the Dead Titles Walking category. Glad to see Tini Howard back in her happy place.

Hellraiser Resurrections: Hell’s Council #1 debuted at the number 149 spot. Nero Villagallos O’Reilly’s special had a terrible debut as well.

Hellraiser Resurrections: The Return of the Priest #1 failed to make the Top 200 and went unranked. Sarah Gailey’s one-shot was the worst performer of all these Hellraiser issues.

Four of the five Hellraiser specials finished in the Dead Titles Walking category, including one that went unranked. This is a weak collective opening for this relaunch by BOOM! Studios.

Let’s move over to the Image Comics titles.

D’Orc #8 dropped from the number 46 spot to the number 80 spot. Ouch. This was a big drop that landed this title not only out of the Top 50, but also out of the Top 75. The next issue needs to stop that slide before this becomes another comic stuck in the bottom half of the chart.

Odin #4 took the number 95 spot. James Tynion IV and Marguerite Bennett’s nine-issue horror mini-series remained inside the Top 100, but only just.

Karman Blade #1 debuted at the number 113 spot. Darcy Van Poelgeest and Ian Bertram’s dark fantasy mini-series began in the Dead Titles Walking category. That is a disappointing starting position, with no cushion for the usual second-issue decline.

Universal Monsters Blood of the Wolf Man #4 climbed from the number 129 spot to the number 117 spot. This four-issue mini-series finished with two consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Corpse Knight #6 fell from the number 119 spot to the number 126 spot. This six-issue mini-series also concluded in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Feral #26 took the number 191 spot. That places the title deep in the Dead Titles Walking category and close to falling out of the Top 200 altogether.

Creepshow Volume 5 #1 debuted at the number 197 spot. Good lord. A new volume barely squeezed onto the chart. The Creepshow name could not deliver a strong opening, and there is no room for a second-issue decline.

Death Vigil #2 fell from the number 178 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Stjepan Šejić’s six-issue mini-series had a low opening, and the second issue could not maintain a Top 200 presence.

Regicide #2 fell from the number 104 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. TWhat a breathtaking drop in the sales chart. That is a rough start for this four-issue mini-series.

Let’s finish with the remaining publishers.

Supernatural Wayward Special #1 debuted at the number 172 spot. Paulina Ganucheau’s one-shot landed deep in the Dead Titles Walking category. The television property’s name did not produce a strong chart result for this special.

Gastronomique #2 fell from the number 121 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Marguerite Bennett’s suffered a spectacular death spiral in the sales chart.

Minor Arcana #18 fell from the number 193 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Last month’s return to the chart lasted only one issue. Jeff Lemire’s title continues to struggle to maintain a Top 200 position.

Cult-De-Sac #2 fell from the number 155 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Cullen Bunn’s title crashed and burned after its debut.

Cosmic Comics

12 Legion of Super-Heroes #1 (DC Comics)

14 Doom Patrol #1 (DC Comics)

42 Alien vs. X-Men #1 (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: Predator vs. The Planet of the Apes #3 (Of 5) (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: Silver Surfer #7 Facsimile Edition (Marvel Comics)

Legion of Super-Heroes #1 debuted at the number 12 spot. Let’s fucking go! Long live the Legion! That is an excellent opening for Joshua Williamson and Hayden Sherman’s new ongoing series. The Legion finished just outside the Top 10 and ahead of every regular DCU ongoing title except Batman and Teen Titans. I am so excited to see this strong of a debut for my beloved Legion.

You know how much I want a successful Legion comic. However, a strong debut is only the first step. The second and third issues will give us a better indication of whether this launch can become the sustained success that the Legion needs. For now, number 12 is a result worth celebrating. However, I have a sinking feeling that the Legion is going to drop quickly in the rankings.

Doom Patrol #1 debuted at the number 14 spot. Another excellent opening! Darcy Van Poelgeest and Niko Henrichon’s new ongoing series placed the World’s Strangest Heroes firmly inside the Top 15. This is an encouraging result for DC Comics’ willingness to give properties outside its biggest franchises another opportunity. Having said that, I have a feeling that Doom Patrol will also suffer a large drop with the second issue.

Let’s move over to Marvel Comics.

Alien vs. X-Men #1 debuted at the number 42 spot. That is an unimpressive showing for a title delivering a crossover of two massive franchises. Kieron Gillen writes the main story, with Chris Claremont contributing an additional story. That gives Marvel Comics recognizable creative names alongside the recognizable franchises. We shall see how this four-issue mini-series performs going forward.

Predator vs. The Planet of the Apes #3 fell from the number 174 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Ouch. Greg Pak’s five-issue mini-series has now gone from number 94 to number 174 to unranked. Two long-time franchises have combined to produce a sales dud of a mini-series.

Street Level Comics

9 Daredevil #6 (Marvel Comics)

16 Daredevil #7 (Marvel Comics)

28 Punisher #8 (Big Guns) (Marvel Comics)

46 Marc Spector Moon Knight #8 (Marvel Comics)

84 Deathstroke the Terminator #7 (DC Comics)

133 Daredevil #5 (Resolicitation) (Marvel Comics)

136 Gun Honey Doubles Down #4 (Of 4) (Titan Comics)

Daredevil #6 slipped from the number 8 spot to the number 9 spot. Another excellent hold. Matt Murdock remained inside the Top 10 with his sixth issue. Matt Murdock is the only other Marvel Comics character outside of Peter Parker who has a track record of impressive sales numbers.

Daredevil #7 then fell from the number 9 spot to the number 16 spot. That is a good ranking for a second issue of a title in the same month.

Punisher #8 climbed from the number 36 spot to the number 28 spot. Frank Castle has now improved for two consecutive issues, moving from number 62 to number 36 to number 28. Love to see this! Benjamin Percy’s title entered the Big Guns crossover with another improvement and came within striking distance of the Top 25. The crossover accompanies this month’s rise, but the recovery was already underway with the previous issue.

Marc Spector Moon Knight #8 dropped from the number 32 spot to the number 46 spot. Jed MacKay’s title gave back some of last month’s improvement but retained its Top 50 position. That is a respectable result, even if Moon Knight continues to bounce around the chart.

Let’s move over to DC Comics.

Deathstroke the Terminator #7 fell from the number 57 spot to the number 84 spot. Ouch. Tony Fleecs’ title has now declined for two consecutive issues, moving from number 48 to number 57 to number 84. Last month’s relatively small dip has become a more troubling slide. The next issue will be pivotal for this title as it will dictate if it can recover and maintain a Top 75 status or if it succumbs to the Dead Titles Walking category.

Gun Honey Doubles Down #4 climbed from the number 140 spot to the number 136 spot. Charles Ardai and Ang Hor Kheng’s four-issue mini-series concluded with two consecutive issues in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Legacy Character Comics

11 Teen Titans #1 (DC Comics)

39 Nightwing #142 (Batman Bad Seeds) (DC Comics)

41 Batgirl #23 (Batman Bad Seeds) (DC Comics)

55 Barbara Gordon Breakout #5 (DC Comics)

72 Supergirl #17 (Kingdom of Zod) (DC Comics)

109 Titans #39 (DC Comics)

145 Supergirl Survive #4 (Of 6) (DC Comics)

Legacy Character Comics had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10, but better in the Top 25 and Top 50 compared to August 2026, when the category had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but better in the Top 50, as there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10, but better in the Top 25 and Top 50 from two years ago, as there were zero legacy character comics in all three tiers in September 2024.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but down in the Top 50 from three years ago, as there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10, but better in the Top 25 and Top 50 from four years ago, as there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Teen Titans #1 debuted at the number 11 spot. That is an impressive opening! Kyle Higgins and Daniele Di Nicuolo’s new ongoing series came within one position of the Top 10. The premise pairs Fairplay, Cheshire Cat, Proxy, and Wildcard with Red Hood.

I am conflicted with this new Teen Titans comic. I love the creative team of Higgans and Di Nicuolo. Higgans is a talented writer who knows how to properly handle a team of young heroes. Di Nicuolo’s style of art is a perfect match for an energetic teen superhero title.

Having said that, I think the roster for this new Teen Titans comic is straight trash. I do not think this roster is going to appeal to many consumers and that this title is going to plummet in the rankings.

New Titans #39 fell from the number 60 spot to the number 109 spot. After two consecutive improvements, the title went belly up and plummeted back into the Dead Titles Walking category. Which is exactly where we normally find any Tate Brombal penned comic. The new branding for this title has failed to amount to any real sales boost.

Mantle Swap Comics

41 Batgirl #23 (Batman Bad Seeds) (DC Comics)

43 Miles Morales Spider-Man #2 (Marvel Comics)

64 Venom #261 (Queen in Black) (Marvel Comics)

130 The Flash #37 (DC Comics)

134 Venom #262 (Queen in Black) (Marvel Comics)

166 Miles Morales Spider-Man #1 (Resolicitation) (Marvel Comics)

169 Generation X-23 #8 (Marvel Comics)

There were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 10 and Top 25, but better in the Top 50 compared to August 2026, when there was one comic in each tier.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but better in the Top 50, as there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25, but better in the Top 50 from four years ago, as there was one mantle swap comic in each tier in September 2022.

The category gained a second Top 50 entry but lost its presence in both the Top 10 and Top 25. That is a mixed result. There is slightly more depth, but considerably less strength at the top.

Three of the six new issues finished in the Dead Titles Walking category. That is half of this month’s new releases. Overall this category remains far from healthy.

Numbers were better across the board from five years ago, as September 2021’s published female lead category had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Marvel Comics placed one female lead comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were down sharply from the four female lead comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as Marvel Comics had one female lead comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were down from five years ago, as Marvel Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

One comic. And that lone entry was a Big Event issue that barely squeezed into the Top 50. None of Marvel’s regular monthly female lead comics made it. That is a miserable showing.

DC Comics placed six female lead comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were up from the four female lead comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were up, as DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were up from two years ago, as DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2021.

DC Comics crushed Marvel Comics in the Battle of the Top 25 by a score of 3–0. DC also dominated the Battle of the Top 50 by a score of 6–1.

However, four of DC’s six Top 50 entries came from the Absolute Universe, including two resolicitations. The other two were Batman franchise titles. DC has the stronger results, but its success remains concentrated in the same two corners of its publishing line.

Image Comics supplied the remaining female lead comic in the Top 50. That gives Image as many entries at this level as Marvel. The House of the Mouse should not be comfortable with that result.

Eighteen of the thirty-six eligible new female lead issues finished in the Dead Titles Walking category. That comprises 50% of this month’s new issues. This was the same as last month when eighteen of thirty-three new issues were in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Do a Powerbomb Black and White #3 climbed from the number 151 spot to the number 146 spot. A five-position improvement is welcome, but the three-issue series finished in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Chachu #2 plummeted from the number 98 spot to the number 200 spot. Wow. Talk about a brutal death spiral in the sales rankings. This is no surprise given that this title is written by Iman Vellani who is a Hollywood actress LARPing as a comic book writer. It appears that Vellani was not able to convince most consumers to come back for the second issue. This five-issue mini-series should be unranked the rest of the way.

White Sky #6 fell from the number 126 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. Another monstrous fall in the sales chart. Having said that, White Sky managed to stay ranked for its first five issues which is far longer than I expected.

Yumi 00EX #2 fell from the number 190 spot and out of the Top 200 to become unranked. This is no surprise given the poor debut number. This four-issue mini-series will be unranked for the final two issues.

There was one minority lead comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but better in the Top 50 compared to August 2026, when there was one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were better across the board, as there were zero minority lead comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were better in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and better in the Top 50 compared to two years ago, as there were zero comics in the Top10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were better across the board from four years ago, as there were zero minority lead comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

Marvel Comics placed one minority lead comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were flat compared to the one minority lead comic that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Year-over-year numbers were flat, as Marvel Comics had one minority lead comic in the Top 50 in September 2025.

Numbers were down from two years ago, as Marvel Comics had two minority lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2024.

Numbers were flat from three years ago, as Marvel Comics had one minority lead comic in the Top 50 in September 2023.

Numbers were up from four years ago, as Marvel Comics had zero minority lead comics in the Top 50 in September 2022.

One Top 50 entry is hardly an impressive result. Marvel has maintained a presence at this level, but it has not built any depth. Everything else in its September inventory finished outside the Top 100.

DC Comics placed three minority lead comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were up from the one minority lead comic that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in August 2026.

Numbers were up from five years ago, as the titles included in September 2021’s published minority lead category gave DC Comics zero comics in the Top 50.

DC Comics shut out Marvel Comics in the Battle of the Top 25 by a score of 2–0. DC also won the Battle of the Top 50 by a score of 3–1.

That is a clear improvement over August, when the publishers tied 1–1 at both levels. DC supplied all of this month’s increase in the category’s Top 50 presence.

However, the familiar concentration remains. Two of DC’s three entries came from the Absolute Universe. The remaining entry came from the Batman franchise. These are strong results, but they do not demonstrate strength across a broad range of properties.

Seven of the eleven new minority lead comics finished in the Dead Titles Walking category. That comprises 64% of this month’s new minority lead comics. This was worse than August 2026’s published result of three out of seven new issues, or 43%.

The divide is stark. Four new issues finished inside the Top 50. The other seven finished outside the Top 100 or went unranked. There was nothing in between.

Obviously, Marvel Comics’ situation is far more dire this month than DC Comics. Four of Marvel Comics’ five new issues landed in the Dead Titles Walking category. That means 80% of Marvel’s new issues in this category finished outside the Top 100.

Dead Titles Walking

It is time to check out the Dead Titles Walking category! These are new comics that finished outside the Top 100, including those that failed to make the Top 200 entirely. Previously released issues, additional printings, and facsimile editions are excluded.

Therefore, the Tini Howard Award for September 2026 goes to…Steve Orlando!

All right, that is it for September 2026. Will DC Comics keep the ball rolling in October 2026? We shall see! Until then, stay safe and be good!
