BLOOD & THUNDER #18
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Benito Cereno
Artist: E.J. Su
Colorist: Msassyk
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Blood & Thunder #18 is a transition issue as we get to spend more time on those coming after our title characters. This is not a bad thing since we have been spending a lot of time with Blood and Thunder. If the series is to grow the universe around our leads we need this type of issue every now and then. It helps to show the different types of characters we have, especially on the antagonist side, to build up the danger Blood and Thunder are in.

IRON MAN #10
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Carmen Carnero
Colorist: Nolan Woodard
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Iron Man #10 is a major turning point for not just this issue but the franchise. Joshua Williamson does a great job utilizing a lot of Tony Stark’s character development in the last few years to highlight a key part of what his narrative has been. That is someone that has gone from creator to borrower. It is something that Tony was not ready to listen to but when you, as lightbulb suddenly turns on the narrative. You realize that the path Tony has been on the last few years has made him dangerous because of this creator-turned borrower path he has been slowly taking. All it took was the return of Happy Hogan and the new A.I.M to place a spotlight on this. Now Tony is placed at a major crossroads as his next decision will set the course for his future.

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
How do you follow-up a masterful debut issue? By delivering a second issue that continues to let the world building continue at its natural pace. That is exactly what Joshua Williamson and Hayden Sherman do with Legion of Super-Heroes #2. Just like its debut, this second issue does an amazing job at immersing the reader the journey of Brainiac One of Five, Lightning Lad, Matter-Eater Lad, Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and others. The more we dive into their lives the more the world is opening. That includes The Persuaders becoming a bigger threat by hitting close to home with their big move at the end of this issue.

POWER RANGERS UNLIMITED #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Kenny Porter and Joey Esposito
Artist: Federico Sorressa
Colorist: Raul Angulo
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Power Rangers Unlimited #4 once again finds a way to unlock even more of the potential of this series. This issue delving further into how Striking Tiger Trini missions go deeper than just dealing with foes across the multiverse and teaming with other iconic Power Rangers. get the best display here as Trini’s assembled Rangers must take on the new big bad of the series, the brutal Black Turbo Ranger, who created an alternate timeline by defeating the majority of the Lightspeed Rangers. Seeing all the Zord battles and Ranger fights in a dystopian timeline was amazing. It not only gave us a spectacle but also help further strengthen the long-term mission statement of this series.

TEEN TITANS #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kyle Higgins
Artist: Daniele Di Nicuolo
Colorist: Marcelo Costa
Letterer: Becca Carey
Teen Titans #2 is at its best when it focus on the chemistry between the new kids and Red Hood. There is a lot of interesting ideas with this cast of mostly new characters and Jason Todd learning to become a mentor. Unfortunately, the series is also at its worst when it starts feeling like Red Hood & the Teen Titans. There is a bit of this disconnect where at times Kyle Higgins seems to want to write a solo Red Hood series. It forces this opening story arc to feel like it is forcing itself to be stretched to the traditional comic book five to six issue story arc format. The more this series can hit on just being Teen Titans the better it will be in the long-term.

TRANSFORMERS #37
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Jason Howard
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Transformers #37 does an excellent job taking us on a journey as Elita Prime continues to grow as the Autobots leader. That growth comes as both Elita Prime’s strengths and weaknesses shine through. In showing this we once again see how she is a different type of leader from Optimus Prime and is what the Autobots need right now. At the same time we see Soundwave make big moves. These moves create a lot more intrigue around how the war between the Autobots and Decepticons could turn out. Click here to read the full review.
