ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #25
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Inker:
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Becca Carey
Absolute Wonder Woman #25 is exactly what “Heretic” needed it to be. This middle chapter of the story arc transitions us to where we started with this arc and sets the stage for how things could conclude. In the process we get the long awaited clash between Absolute Wonder Woman and Cheetah, with Diana doing what she can to reach what’s left of her friend. It all adds to the mythology this series continues to develop for itself while integrating so many different familiar ones into its story.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
BATMAN: BAD SEEDS – SUNSET
CREATIVE TEAM
Writers: Matt Fraction and G. Willow Wilson
Artists: Giuseppe Camuncoli and Cliff Rathburn
Colorist: Tomeu Morey
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
As the conclusion of a crossover event Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset delivers on making sure we are left with the landscape in Gotham City changed. From Poison Ivy losing her connection to the Green and Mayoral power to the brutal end of Vandal Savage, things are very different from where we started Bad Seeds. The effectiveness of this conclusion doesn’t wipe away how inconsistent the build up to this event was from the main parts and its tie-ins. But now its over with the Batman Family and Gotham City left to respond to how different things are now.

DAREDEVIL #8
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Stephanie Phillips
Artist: Lee Garbett
Colorist: Frank Martin
Letterer: Ariana Maher
While the intro arc with Omen was a way to make an immediate statement for their run on this series, Daredevil #8 is where we really see Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett in there bag. There is a degree of freedom with how they kick start “City Without Fear” as they have already established what their voice for this series is. That is best seen with the new horror-esque villain that is all about tapping into one’s fear. This new villain’s arrival couldn’t come at a worse time as Matt Murdock deals with what it means to not take Elektra up on her offer in the previous arc. It all leads to a strong start to a very promising new story arc for Daredevil.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #5
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Marguerite Bennett
Artist: Andrew Lee Griffith
Colorist: Joshua Jensen
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 is the best issue of the series thus far. It provides a sense of continuity that wasn’t always present in the previous four issues. That is thanks to Tommy Oliver being brought in to become a core part of the cast. Tommy and Zack’s dynamic throughout does a lot to get over the core concept of this series and, most importantly, makes you buy in the narrative direction. That buy in creates a greater sense of investment in where this story with Rita Rabiosa as the villain will go. Click here to read the full review.

POISON IVY #49
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: G. Willow Wilson
Artist: Alex Lins
Colorist: Arif Prianto
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Much like its Batman counterpart, the Poison Ivy chapters of Bad Seeds have struggled with momentum. That is certainly the case with Poison Ivy #49 as it feels like it has been months since we last checked in with her, even though it was only a month. This being the only place Poison Ivy’s narrative has developed is a major detriment. But to G. Willow Wilson and Alex Lins credit the things they do accomplish here help to set-up the desperate spot Poison Ivy is at in the Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset finale for this crossover.
Overall Rating: 5.5 Night Girls out of 10
UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN LIVES #1
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Mattia De Iulis
Letterer: Becca Carey
Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives #1 is a home run of a debut issue. Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis nail the range of emotion The Bride feels from the moment of her creation. The character journey they place her own has a unique sense of tension that you can’t help but want to follow where The Bride’s journey will lead her to. By creating such a story Thompson and Iulis deliver a comic book that welcomes new readers and long time Universal Monsters’ fans. Click here to read the full review.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
ZATANNA #7
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jamal Campbell
Artists: Yasmine Putri and Jamal Campbell
Letterer: Ariana Maher
Zatanna #7 is a comic book this series very much needed. Jamal Campbell has done an excellent job showcasing the magical world of the DC Universe. With Zatanna #7 he showcases the versatility of the type of stories Zatanna can get involved with. While keeping things in the magical realm we get some vampires and other mythological beings involved. The snowy setting in particular helped to accentuate the darker vibes of the mystery Zatanna finds herself dragged into.
