One World Under - Doctor Doom Wins

Doctor Doom Exposed The Avengers Greatest Weakness

Doctor Doom did not wait to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut to make an impact once again. One World Under Doom has been a pure show of when he is on his game that there is no one superhero or team that can stop Doctor Doom. The first three chapters of the latest Marvel blockbuster event have solidified that for anyone who may have questioned what Victor Von Doom is capable of. What occurred in One World Under Doom #3 showed why The Avengers were never prepared for what Doctor Doom is truly capable of. Let’s break that down here.

DOCTOR DOOM BEAT THE AVENGERS BY PLAYING ON THEIR SUPERHERO NATURE

One World Under Doom #3 showed that Victor Von Doom did not launch his latest on a whim. It is actually the opposite. He had everything fully planned out, including how the superhero community would react to his takeover. Which is something the Avengers got a massive lesson on as during their attack on Doctor Doom they learned a key game changing development that led to One World Under Doom.

This lesson was that Doctor Doom didn’t use his status as Sorcerer Supreme or technology mind control tactics to get the world’s leaders backing. No, rather Doctor Doom used his magic to make it easier to be in multiple places at once and broker deals with world leaders. Doctor Doom did this by not simply making promises but instantly making good on his negotiations with what world leaders wanted. It was simply made easier that he was able to use his status as Sorcerer Supreme so that Doctor Strange and other magic users wouldn’t detect his actions.

By using his Sorcerer Supreme status in this way, he was also able to play into how he is viewed as a pure villain by the Avengers and other Marvel heroes. He absolutely knew that the Avengers would fully believe he was using some form of mind control. Even if he didn’t fully predict the Avengers would team up with the Masters of Evil he knew as superheroes the Avengers would do anything to stop them.

That in turn created the scenario in One World Under Doom #3 where we see Doctor Doom force the Avengers hand to ultimately work with him to stop a breakout at Raft. Everything about Victor Von Doom’s planning has been about positioning. He knew the Avengers would launch a strike on him and timed it so they would have to choose to publicly work with him. In that one action the Avengers are stuck moving forward.

What Doctor Doom accomplished is nothing new. If anything, it is likely that Doctor Doom learned about how The Avengers operate in all Marvel big events. Once the Avengers set their sights on a specific goal of how to take down a threat it will narrow their vision. It is part of the core of the Avengers mission statement as being a team that reacts to threats rather than preventing them.

This has led to events where we’ve seen the Avengers’ view on dealing with threats lead to massive rushes in judgements. The two Civil War events that Marvel has had are the greatest examples of this. The Avengers are so reactionary that they their big plans have even turned them against one another. And it has always come down to rushing a plan, as both Iron Man and Captain Marvel did in each Civil War event. That once again happened with why the Avengers decided to team up with the Masters of Evil in One World Under Doom.

That is counter to what Doctor Doom did in One World Under Doom. As Scarlet Witch and other sorcerers learned, Doctor Doom used his magic to accomplish what would take decades if not centuries to do. Putting in time to play into the human nature of the desires of the world leaders made it easier to gain power and influence to become Earth’s Emperor.

We are still a long way away from One World Under Doom. The way Marvel’s event is structured, One World Under Doom just completed its first act of a three-act structure. The first act of One World Under Doom put over that there is nothing presently Marvel’s heroes can stop what is going on. Doctor Doom planned things out to perfection in how he claimed power over the world.

Now as we get into the second and third act of One World Under Doom, we will see how the rest of the year will play out. Because this event will not conclude until the end of the year. That means Doctor Doom’s actions will be what shape the Marvel Universe as a whole. Even if the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and other heroes can stop Emperor Doom the damage is likely done.

Given that Doctor Doom is set to be the main villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the influence the villain has will likely not subside. It would not be surprising if One World Under Doom turns out to be a prelude to an even bigger event with Doctor Doom as the lead in 2026 or 2027.

Marvel loves to have their big comic book events that has similar elements to their MCU counterpart. Given that the MCU will be adapting Secret Wars, however One World Under Doom ends will likely tease a Multiverse-centric event in the next two years. The groundwork is there as we are seeing Spider-Verse vs Venom-Verse this year.
