February 2024 Single Issue Comic Book Sales Rankings

It is time to check out the February 2024 single-issue comic book sales rankings. Things are getting murkier in terms of actual unit numbers. So, we will have to settle with going to ICv2 for their Top 200 sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we have to work with what we get.

Keep in mind, that the Top 200 single-issue comic sales charts are based on orders tracked by the ComicHub system at local comic book shops selling American comics. This includes over 3,000 stores selling American comics worldwide. As always, it is important to remember that these rankings are also not actual sales. These rankings only represent the number of units ordered by local comic shops.

You can go over to ICv2 and check out the Top 50 for February 2024 for free or opt for a pro membership (It is well worth the money) and get the Top 200 for February 2024 and then come back here for a detailed analysis of the February 2024 sales rankings!

February 2024 Top 200 Single-Issue Comic Rankings

The Battle for the Top 10

Marvel Comics placed four comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the six comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 10 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in February 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had nine comics in the Top 10 in February 2022.

February 2024 was a terrible month for Marvel Comics in the Top 10. There is a clear decline in the Top 10 when zooming out a year ago and two years ago. Interestingly, Marvel Comics’ decline in the Top 10 is not due to simply a resurgent DC Comics in the Top 10. Instead, Marvel Comics’ decline is mostly due to Image Comics’ rise in the Top 10.

All of Marvel Comics’ Top 10 success was due to the Spider-Man franchise as Three of the four Marvel Comics in the Top 10 came from the Spider-Man franchise. Two of the Spider-Man franchise titles were Peter Parker titles.

It also appears that the only character who can beat 616 Universe Peter Parker in the sales rankings is Ultimate Universe Peter Parker. Ultimate Spider-Man #2 scored the overall number 1 spot in the rankings for a second consecutive month. The success of this title is breathtaking and a symbol of how Marvel Comics, and DC Comics, should seek to publish more titles that their fans desire versus publishing titles for non-existent readers.

DC Comics placed three comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that DC Comics had in the Top 10 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as DC Comics had three comics in the Top 10 in February 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as DC Comics had one comic in the Top 10 in February 2022.

At first blush, it would appear that DC Comics has held ground from a year ago and made nice improvements in the Top 10 compared to two years ago. However, that is a bit of a sham.

All three of DC Comics’ Top 10 comics were from the Batman comic. Batman #142, Batman #143, and Batman #143 all placed in the Top 10. Bruce Wayne pulls off an insane feat of notching three issues in the Top 10. Bruce Wayne served notice to Peter Parker for the crown of the most popular comic book character of all time.

There is no doubt that if DC Comics had not released three issues of Batman in February then they would have only had one comic in the Top 10 for February 2024. This would have had DC Comics performing worse in the Top 10 than a year ago and the same as they did two years ago. This is more proof that Dawn of DC has been a total failure in trying to boost DC Comics’ Top 10 success.

Image Comics placed two comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the three comics that Image Comics had in the Top 10 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in February 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in February 2022.

There is no doubt that the valuable Hasbro license has blessed Image Comics with some mainstream titles capable of consistently scoring Top 10 finishes every month. That has been a nice addition to the Spawn franchise to help power Image Comics’ success.

Image Comics’ two Top 10 comics were from the Habro franchise and the Spawn franchise. 7 Spawn #350 was a big issue that scored the number 7 spot in the rankings.

Of course, the most amazing finish in the Top 10 of February 2024 was ThunderCats #1 scoring the number 2 spot in the rankings! To see Dynamite Entertainment in the Top 10 is a rare sight! However, it appears that it is another 1980s property that is coming to the rescue of another smaller publisher. I had a feeling that ThunderCats #1 was going to do well, but I did not expect it to dominate in this fashion!

The Battle for the Top 25

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 11-25 range typically sell in the 65,000 to 50,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed seventeen comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were up from the sixteen comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 25 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had twenty comics in the Top 25 in February 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had twenty comics in the Top 25 in February 2022.

Marvel Comics had more diversity in their titles in the Top 25. Marvel Comics pulled from the Spider-Man franchise, X-Men franchise, Avengers franchise, Moon Night, and the Fantastic Four. That speaks volumes to Marvel Comics’ ability to successfully build out so many franchises. However, it is not all good news in the Top 25. Marvel Comics is performing worse in the Top 25 than itdid a year ago and two years ago. This speaks to the rise of Image Comics with the Hasbro license. It also shows that Marvel Comics often misfires in publishing comics that appeal to their readership.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #2 fell from the number 11 spot to the number 22 spot. That is not that bad of a drop between a first and second issue. Marvel Comics should be pleased with this result. It appears that this new Moon Knight comic has the potential to remain a consistent Top 50 title.

Fantastic Four #17 ticked up from the number 30 spot to the number 24 spot. Fantastic Four continues to be a wonderful hit for Marvel Comics. This title consistently bobs in and out of the Top 25 every month.

DC Comics placed four comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were down from the six comics that DC Comics had in the Top 25 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as DC Comics also had four comics in the Top 25 in February 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had five comics in the Top 25 in February 2022.

These numbers are both alarming and horrendous. The Dawn of DC initiative has been a complete failure in its goal of improving DC Comics’ Top 25 success. The fact that DC Comics is selling fewer comics in the Top 25 compared to two years ago should be embarrassing for DC Comics. It is more obvious than ever that all DC Comics has is Bruce Wayne and not much else.

The only comic outside of Bruce Wayne’s Batman title to make the Top 25 was Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #5 which took the number 16 spot. At this point, DC Comics cannot be considered a legitimate competitor to Marvel Comics in the Battle for the Top 25.

Image Comics placed three comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were flat as Image Comics also had three comics in the Top 25 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 25 in February 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 25 in February 2022.

The Hasbro license continues to pay dividends for Image Comics as they have enjoyed their best success in the Top 25 over the past two years.

Dynamite Entertainment placed one comic in the Top 25.

The Battle for the Top 50

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 26-50 range typically sell in the 49,000 to 30,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed thirty-one comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the thirty-three comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had thirty-two comics in the Top 50 in February 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had thirty-two comics in the Top 50 in February 2022.

Marvel Comics has performed slightly worse in the Top 50 than a year ago and two years ago. However, the House of the Mouse is still relatively rock solid in their Top 50 performance.

Daredevil #6 plummeted from the number 16 spot out of the Top 25 and down to the number 35 spot. This is the lowest we have seen a Daredevil comic in years. This is a concerning sign. However, it is still just one month and this could be an aberration. Next month will give us a better insight into the long-term direction of Ahmed Saladin’s Daredevil.

G.O.D.S. #5 dropped from the number 33 spot to the number 38 spot. That is not that bad. It appears that G.O.D.S. is going to remain a consistent Top 50 seller for a while.

DC Comics placed fourteen comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the ten comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as DC Comics had thirteen comics in the Top 50 in February 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as DC Comics had nine comics in the Top 50 in February 2022.

We finally see DC Comics making some improvements in the sales rankings once we get to the Top 50 numbers. This is the first sign of anything positive for DC Comics in the sales rankings. Of course, eight of DC Comics’ fourteen comics were from the Batman franchise. The other six titles were from the Justice League franchise, Superman franchise, Wonder Woman franchise, Green Lantern franchise, and the Titans franchise.

Image Comics placed four comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the six comics that Image Comics had in the Top 50 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 50 in February 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 50 in February 2022.

Image Comics should thank the stars above that they have the Hasbro franchise, otherwise, things would have looked really ugly in the Top 50 compared to two years ago. Three of Image Comics’ four comics in the Top 50 in February 2024 were from the Hasbro franchise. One title was from the Spawn franchise.

It should be noted that Image Comics’ Top 50 sales success two years ago came from all eight of their titles slotted in between the number 30 spot and the number 49 spot. So, while the overall number of titles in the Top 50 is less than two years ago, Image is scoring much higher in the rankings compared to two years ago. What titles powered Image Comics’ Top 50 success two years ago? The Spawn franchise, Gieger, and Saga.

Dynamite Entertainment placed one comic in the Top 50.

The Battle for the Top 75

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 51-75 range typically sell in the 29,000 to 25,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed forty-four comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the forty-three comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 75 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had forty-four comics in the Top 75 in February 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had forty-two comics in the Top 75 in February 2022.

Marvel Comics has held steady in the Top 75 compared to a year ago and increased compared to two years ago. Nothing concerning to see here.

Doctor Strange #12 dropped from the number 44 spot to the number 51 spot. This is to be expected from this title. Doctor Strange continues to bob in and out of the Top 50 each month.

DC Comics placed seventeen comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down from the nineteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had nineteen comics in the Top 75 in February 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had twenty-one comics in the Top 75 in February 2022.

This is horrendous. This is more proof that the Dawn of DC has failed to increase DC Comics’ Top 75 sales numbers. DC Comics performed better in the Top 75 two years ago before the Dawn of DC initiative got going. DC Comics has decreased in the Top 75 sales each year under the Dawn of DC initiative.

Image Comics placed ten comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down from the eleven comics that Image Comics had in the Top 75 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had seven comics in the Top 75 in February 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Image Comics had ten comics in the Top 75 in February 2022.

The Hasbro license and Spawn franchise have kept Image Comics competitive in the Top 75 rankings. Five of Image Comics’ ten comics were from the Hasbro license. Two of Image Comics’ ten comics were from the Spawn franchise. That left three comics from Image Comics’ niche titles in Deviant, One Hand, and Worldtr33 slotted between the number 69 spot and 75 spot.

Dynamite Entertainment, Titan Comics, Penthouse Comics, and IDW Publishing all placed one comic apiece in the Top 75.

Titan Comics continues to enjoy wonderful success with the Conan license. Conan the Barbarian #7 fell from the number 46 spot to the number 55 spot. That is not that much of a drop and still far better than any Conan title has sold in a long while. Titan Comics is performing better with the Conan license than I had anticipated.

Yup, your eyes were not deceiving you when you saw that Penthouse Comics placed an issue in the Top 75! It is like the 1990s all over again back when we were blessed with Penthouse Comix. Penthouse Comics #1 debuted at the number 59 spot! Wow! I like sexy women in naughty comics as much as the next person, but I did not see this impressive debut number coming at all. I guess readers still like their sexy women in comics despite the efforts of many within Marvel Comics and DC Comics. I am sure the neo-Puritans’ heads exploded once they saw this!

The Battle for the Top 100

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 76-100 range typically sell in the 24,000 to 18,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed fifty-three comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down from the fifty-seven comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 100 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had fifty-eight comics in the Top 100 in February 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fifty-seven comics in the Top 100 in February 2022.

Marvel Comics’ Top 100 numbers do not paint a rosy picture as they are down compared to both one year ago and two years ago. This is not surprising as Marvel Comics has misfired on some of their comics and we have seen the smaller publishers make inroads in the Top 100 this month.

Thanos #3 ticked down from the number 77 spot to the number 78 spot. It looks like this title has found its proper spot in the rankings.

DC Comics placed twenty-three comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down from the twenty-seven comics that DC Comics had in the Top 100 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as DC Comics had twenty-eight comics in the Top 100 in February 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had twenty-six comics in the Top 100 in February 2022.

This is awful. Again, we see the complete failure of the Dawn of DC initiative in its effort to improve DC Comics’ Top 100 success. DC Comics performed worse than they did a year ago and two years ago. It appears that the Dawn of DC initiative had an initial bump from all the new #1 issues hitting the market and then many of them crashed and burned. At this point, DC Comics has to start making some changes at the top. Sticking with the same editorial staff and decision-makers is just going to lead to DC Comics continuing to flounder.

Shazam #8 stayed rock solid by taking the number 76 spot which is the same place in the rankings that Shazam #7 had in January 2024.

John Constantine, Hellblazer Dead in America #2 fell from the number 55 spot down to the number 81 spot. This is about what I was expecting for this niche title. I will be surprised if Constantine can remain in the Top 100 in March 2024.

Image Comics placed fourteen comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat as Image Comics also had fourteen comics in the Top 100 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 100 in February 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Image Comics had fourteen comics in the Top 100 in February 2022.

Nine of Image Comics’ fourteen comics came from the Hasbro license and the Spawn franchise.  I am fascinated by the incredible success that Image Comics has had with the Hasbro titles. All of this has exceeded my expectations. I think if Image Comics was given truth serum even they would admit being surprised at the success of the Habsro titles. It is clear that DC Comics and Marvel Comics have left many readers unsatisfied with their content and those readers are turning to the two popular 1980s franchises for their entertainment.

Titan Comics placed three comics in the Top 100. All three comics were from the Conan franchise.

Savage Sword of Conan #1 debuted at the number 77 spot. This is a new six-issue mini-series.  Conan the Barbarian #8 came in at the number 99 spot. That is not too bad considering that Titan Comics shipped Conan the Barbarian #7 and Conan the Barbarian #8 in the same month.

Dynamite Entertainment and BOOM! Studios placed two comics apiece in the Top 100.

Penthouse Comics, IDW Publishing, and Darkhorse Comics placed one comic apiece in the Top 100.

February 2024 was interesting in that both Marvel Comics and DC Comics performed worse in the Top 100 compared to one year ago and two years ago. On the other hand, you had old popular franchises in Transformers, GI Joe, ThunderCats, and Conan plus a popular franchise from the 1990s in Spawn all combining to place thirteen comics in the Top 100. You then had another ten comics from the smaller publishers also in the Top 100. That comes to a total of twenty-three comics in the Top 100 that were outside of Marvel Comics and DC Comics.

This is a much larger number than normal. I think there are several things operating at once. First, I do think that Marvel Comics and DC Comics outside of the Top 25 are selling in smaller numbers than before. This allows some of the comics from the various smaller publishers to rise up in the sales rankings. Also, I think that older franchises like Transformers, GI Joe, and ThunderCats are having huge success in the Top 25 because many readers are turned off from what Marvel Comics and DC Comics have been doing over the past five years and are looking to older popular properties for some fun entertainment.

It is going to be fascinating to see how all of this plays out in 2024. I am curious to see what kind of sustained success Transformers, GI Joe, ThunderCats, and Conan can have over the rest of this year. I am also interested to see what kind of advances in the Top 100 publishers outside of Marvel Comics and DC Comics can mount as readers seem to be less and less excited by much of what the Big Two have to offer.

The Joshua Williamson Award For The Writer With The Most Titles In The Top 50

Several writers had two comics in the Top 50.

Victor LaValle and Benjamin Percy combined to have two comics with Wolverine #43 at the number 15 spot and Wolverine #44 at the number 36 spot.

Al Ewing had two comics with Venom #30 at the number 34 spot and Immortal Thor #7 at the number 49 spot.

Tom Taylor had two comics with Nightwing #111 at the number 28 spot and Titans #8 at the number 43 spot.

Dan Slott had two comics with Spider-Boy #4 at the number 40 spot and Superior Spider-Man #4 at the number 48 spot.

Cody Ziglar had two comics with Spider-Punk: Arms Race #1 at the number 17 spot and Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 at the number 31 spot.

Zeb Wells had two comics with Amazing Spider-Man #43 at the number 6 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #44 at the number 18 spot.

Jed MacKay had two comics with Vengeance of the Moon Knight #2 at the number 22 spot and  Avengers #10 at the number 27 spot.

Gerry Duggan had two comics with Fall of the House of X #2 at the number 10 spot and X-Men #31 at the number 11 spot.

There was one writer who had three comics in the Top 100.

Jonathan Hickman had three comics with Ultimate Spider-Man #2 at the number 1 spot, Ultimate Spider-Man #1 at the number 25 spot, and G.O.D.S. #5 at the number 38 spot.

However, having three comics in the Top 50 was not good enough to win this month. Instead, we had a tie for first place with two writers having four comics in the Top 50!

Chip Zdarsky had four comics with Batman #142 at the number 3 spot, Batman #143 at the number 4 spot, Batman #144 at the number 9 spot, and Avengers: Twilight #3 at the number 19 spot.

Joshua Williamson also had four comics with Cobra Commander #2 at the number 13 spot, Duke #3 at the number 33 spot, Superman #11 at the number 37 spot, and Batman and Robin #6 at the number 47 spot.

All right, it is time to go to tie-breakers! The first tie-breaker is the writer who has more issues from different titles in the Top 50 wins. In this case, Zdarsky had three of his four comics come from Batman. On the other hand, Williamson had four comics from four different titles.

Therefore, the winner of the Joshua Williamson Award for February 2024 is…Joshua Williamson! This is the third month in a row that Williamson has won this award!

Battle of the Franchises

The Spider-Man franchise took first place with three comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and eleven comics in the Top 50.

The Batman franchise took second place with three comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50.

The Avengers franchise took third place with zero comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50.

The X-Men franchise took fourth place with one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

The Hasbro franchise took fifth place with one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

120 DC’s How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics)

154 Women of Marvel (2024) #1 (Marvel Comics)

As usual, we will address these issues in the various franchise sections below. However, there is one that we will touch on now. Suicide Squad Kill Arkham Asylum #1 crashed and burned on its debut as it came in at the number 92 spot. That is brutal. This five-issue mini-series is going to be a Dead Title Walking with just the second issue. This is no surprise as this mini-series is a prequel to the unpopular Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which was a bomb itself.

Big Events

Fall of House of X

10 Fall of the House of X #2 (Marvel Comics)

11 X-Men #31 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

151 Resurrection of Magneto #1 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

165 X-Men #30 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

Fall of the House of X has been a nice selling big event slotting three issues in the Top 15.

Gang War

6 Amazing Spider-Man #43 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

18 Amazing Spider-Man #44 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

31 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

71 Daredevil: Gang War #3 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

80 Spider-Woman #4 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

127 Amazing Spider-Man #42 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

133 Deadly Hands of Kung Fu: Gang War #3 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

134 Luke Cage: Gang War #4 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

177 Amazing Spider-Man #41 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

Gang War continues to be a total sales failure. The only Gang War-related issues that made the Top 25 were Amazing Spider-Man which would have sold well regardless of Gang War.

Hasbro Franchise

5 Transformers #5

13 Cobra Commander #2 (Of 5)

33 Duke #3 (Of 5)

58 GI Joe A Real American Hero #304

72 Duke #2 (Of 5) (Resolicitation)

79 Cobra Commander #1 (Of 5) (Resolicitation)

121 Duke #1 (Of 5) (Resolicitation)

155 Transformers #4 (Resolicitation)

The Hasbro franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in January 2024 when the Hasbro franchise had two comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Transformers #5 came in the number 5 spot which is the same spot in the rankings that Transformers #4 had in January 2024. Wow. Talk about consistency. That is impressive. Transformers is such a sales beast and shows no signs of slowing down.

Cobra Commander #2 dipped from the number 7 spot to the number 13 spot. That is so impressive! That is not much of a drop at all between a debut issue and the second issue. It looks like this five-issue mini-series is going to be a smash success.

What was also impressive was that the resolicitation for Cobra Commander #1 took the number 79 spot! That is incredible to see a resolicitation of an issue almost crack into the Top 75.

Duke #3 ticked up from the number 35 spot to the number 33 spot. Duke continues to prove that shipping in the final week of a month is not a death sentence. It is certainly impressive that this mini-series managed to climb up in the rankings with the third issue.

What is also incredible is that the resolicitation of Duke #2 came in at the number 72 spot. Wow. A resolicitation of an issue finishing in the Top 75 is quite an accomplishment. Duke continues the trend of these GI Joe mini-series being white hot.

But, Duke was not done as the resolictitation of 121 Duke #1 from two months ago took the number 121 spot! This is just crazy.

GI Joe A Real American Hero #304 dipped down from the number 49 spot to the number 58 spot. That is not that bad of a drop. This title is still selling far better than I expected given that it continues the same story from the IDW run from a year ago.

Star Wars Franchise

32 Star Wars: Mace Windu #1

41 Star Wars: Darth Vader #43

57 Star Wars #43

73 Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #2

116 Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #1 (Resolicitation)

125 Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi #5

173 Star Wars The High Republic Adventures Phase III #3 (Resolicitation)

187 Star Wars Doctor Aphra #40 (Resolicitation)

The Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in January 2024 when the Star Wars franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were also down as the Star Wars franchise had zero titles in the Top 10, one title in the Top 25, and four titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were down from two years ago as the Star Wars franchise had one title in the Top 10, two titles in the Top 25, and four titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

The year-over-year numbers and the two years ago numbers are grim. The Star Wars franchise has grown cold under questionable decision-making from the Lucasfilm story group and Marvel Comics.

Star Wars: Mace Windu #1 had a pedestrian debut at the number 32 spot. This four-issue mini-series looks likely to fall out of the Top 50 with the second issue.

Marvel hired Marc Bernardin as the writer for this comic. Bernardin is an editor for The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly. He is also a journalist who has written for Vulture, Playboy, Wired, and Empire. He has also been a staff writer for a few TV shows.

I am unsure why Marvel Comics thought Bernardin was an excellent match for a mainstream comic book, but this is a typical move for Marvel’s editorial staff. We shall see if Marvel Comics has more success than they normally do when they take this route.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #43 fell from the number 22 spot to the number 41 spot. It is not unusual to see this title fluctuate in and out of the Top 25.

Star Wars #43 fell from the number 26 spot to the number 57 spot. This is a bit surprising. Star Wars has not sold outside of the Top 50 since August 2023 when it took the number 54 spot. We shall see if this title can rebound next month and return to form as a consistent Top 50 seller.

Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #2 plummeted from the number 32 spot down to the number 73 spot. Ouch. This issue did ship in the last week of February so perhaps this four-issue mini-series can arrest its fall next month.

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi #5 bounced up from the number 152 spot to the number 125 spot. It looks like Jody Houser’s six-issue mini-series is a lock to conclude as a dead title walking.

Spider-Man Franchise

1 Ultimate Spider-Man #2

6 Amazing Spider-Man #43 (Gang War)

8 Edge of Spider-Verse #1

17 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #1

18 Amazing Spider-Man #44 (Gang War)

21 What If…? Venom #1

25 Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (Resolicitation)

31 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 (Gang War)

34 Venom #30

40 Spider-Boy #4

48 Superior Spider-Man #4

67 Spider-Gwen: Smash #3

68 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #17

80 Spider-Woman #4 (Gang War)

109 Carnage #4

111 Spider-Boy #3 (Resolicitation)

127 Amazing Spider-Man #42 (Gang War) (Resolicitation)

138 Amazing Spider-Man #252 Facsimile Edition

177 Amazing Spider-Man #41 (Gang War) (Resolicitation)

199 Superior Spider-Man #3 (Resolicitation)

The Spider-Man franchise had three titles in the Top 10, seven titles in the Top 25, and eleven titles in the Top 50. This was better than January 2024 when the Spider-Man franchise had three titles in the Top 10, five titles in the Top 25, and nine titles in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25 but up in the Top 50 as the Spider-Man franchise had four titles in the Top 10, seven titles in the Top 25, and eight titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as the Spider-Man franchise had three titles in the Top 10, five titles in the Top 25, and seven titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

Peter Parker continues to be a sales juggernaut as he slotted four issues in the Top 25. Ultimate Spider-Man #2 took the number one spot for a second consecutive month. Equally impressive is that the resolicitation for Ultimate Spider-Man #1 grabbed the number 25 spot! It is a rare day when a resoclicitated issue cracks into the Top 25. The fan interest in Ultimate Spider-Man is off the charts. Imagine that. Giving readers what they desire actually leads to big sales. Who would have thought…

Amazing Spider-Man #43 took the number 6 spot while Amazing Spider-Man #44 took the number 18 spot. Amazing Spider-Man #44 is further proof that shipping in the final week of a month does not doom a comic. Amazing Spider-Man continues to be white-hot and shows no signs of slowing down.

Edge of Spider-Verse #1 had a wonderful debut snagging the number 8 spot. This comic was an anthology-style issue with three different stories. It will be interesting to see how this four-issue mini-series performs. I am certainly not betting against anything with “Spider-Verse” in the title of the comic.

Spider-Punk: Arms Race #1 had a solid debut taking the number 17 spot. This issue did ship in the last week of the month, but so did several other issues that performed well. This issue was also bolstered by a mind-shattering number of covers. Four open order covers, two reprint covers, two incentive covers, and seven retailer exclusive covers.

Wow. That is as many covers as I have seen for one issue in a while. It will be interesting to see how this four-issue mini-series performs when not bolstered by such a sheer volume of variant covers.

All right, let’s check out the knock-off Spider-Men.

Superior Spider-Man #4 stayed rock steady taking the number 48 spot which is the same spot that Superior Spider-Man #3 took in January 2024. It appears that Superior Spider-Man has found its proper place in the rankings.

Spider-Boy #4 bounced up from the number 54 spot to the number 40 spot. That is a positive sign that Spider-Boy might be able to remain a consistent Top 50 seller.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 fell from the number 17 spot down to the number 31 spot. This is the second straight month that Miles Morales has fallen in the rankings. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 was the final Gang War tie-in issue. While Gang War was a sales bust in general, it did cause a spike in sales for Miles Morales as Miles was down at the number 92 spot in the rankings before Gang War began.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #17 dropped from the number 31 spot down to the number 68 spot. That is not a great sign. This issue did ship in the final week of the month and was the second issue of the month. But, Amazing Spider-Man #44 also shipped in the final week of the month and was the second issue of the month for that title and it took the number 18 spot. So, it is not impossible for the second issue of a title in the same month to perform well. See also Wolverine below.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #17 was the first issue after the Gang War tie-in issues. It will be interesting to see where this title goes in the next few months. Before Gang War, Miles was at the number 92 spot. We shall see if this title can bounce back up in the rankings or if it eventually settles back down to the bottom of the Top 100 once again.

All right, let’s check out the Venomverse titles.

What If…? Venom #1 had a solid debut slotting in at the number 21 spot. Marvel Comics will be happy with this performance.

Venom #30 ticked down from the number 31 spot to the number 34 spot. This is the second straight month that Venom has finished outside of the Top 25. This is unusual since this title normally comes in the Top 25. This is something to keep an eye on to see if this is a long-term trend or not.

Carnage #4 ticked up from the number 123 spot to the number 109 spot. This issue did ship in the final week of February. Torun Grønbekk has struggled mightily to get any success with this title as it seems doomed to stay in the dead titles walking category.

Let’s wrap up with the Spider-Ladies.

Spider-Gwen: Smash #3 fell from the number 53 spot to the number 67 spot. What a massive sales disappointment this title has been. Keep in mind that Spider-Gwen: Smash #1 debuted at the number 8 spot. Readers were definitely not interested in what Melissa Flores had to offer with this four-issue mini-series. Having said that, I still think this mini-series will conclude next month in the Top 100.

Spider-Woman #4 bounced back up from the number 114 spot to the number 80 spot. It is a positive sign to see Jessica get back into the Top 100. Maybe the tide is turning a bit for this title? We shall see over the next few months.

X-Men Franchise

10 Fall of the House of X #2

11 X-Men #31 (Fall of the House of X)

14 Rise of the Powers of X #2 (Fall of the House of X)

15 Wolverine #43

36 Wolverine #44

44 Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #1

52 Resurrection of Magneto #2 (Fall of the House of X)

53 X-Force #49

64 Dead X-Men #2 (Fall of the House of X)

70 Wolverine #42 (Resolicitation)

85 Cable #2 (Fall of the House of X)

103 Dead X-Men #1 (Fall of the House of X) (Resolicitation)

147 Rise of the Powers of X #1 (Resolicitation)

148 Uncanny X-Men #268 Facsimile Edition

150 Fall of the House of X #1 (Resolicitation)

151 Resurrection of Magneto #1 (Resolicitation)

165 X-Men #30 (Fall of the House of X) (Resolicitation)

171 Wolverine #41 (Resolicitation)

The X-Men franchise had one title in the Top 10, four titles in the Top 25, and six titles in the Top 50. This was worse than in January 2024 when the X-Men franchise had two titles in the Top 10, five titles in the Top 25, and eight titles in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10, up in the Top 25, and down in the Top 50 as the X-Men franchise had one title in the Top 10, three titles in the Top 25, and seven titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10 and down in the Top 25 and Top 50 from two years ago as the X-Men franchise had one title in the Top 10, five titles in the Top 25, and ten titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

Fall of the House of X #2 dropped from the number 2 spot to the number 10 spot. That is a strong showing by this second issue of this five-issue mini-series. Fan interest remains high in this big event story.

Rise of the Powers of X #2 fell from the number 6 spot to the number 14 spot. Again, that is a good showing by this second issue of this five-issue mini-series. It looks like Rise of the Powers of X has a good shot at remaining a Top 25 title until its conclusion.

X-Men #31 ticked up from the number 13 spot to the number 11 spot. X-Men used to be a lock for the Top 10. It appears that newcomers to the Top 10 in Transformers, Ultimate Spider-Man, and ThunderCats have made it difficult for the X-Men to get back into the Top 10.

Dead X-Men #2 fell from the number 50 spot to the number 64 spot. This is no surprise given the poor debut number that this title had in January 2024. This four-issue mini-series still has a good shot of concluding in the Top 100.

X-Force #49 ticked up from the number 58 spot to the number 53 spot. This is the second straight month that X-Force has climbed up in the rankings. We shall see if this title can sneak back into the Top 50 next month.

All right, let’s look at the solo titles.

Wolverine #43 took the number 15 spot and Wolverine #44 took the number 36 spot. This was almost the same as in January 2024 when Wolverine #41 took the number 12 spot and Wolverine #42 took the number 36 spot. Wolverine #41 was even more proof that shipping a second title in the same month on the last week of the month is not a death sentence. What was also impressive was that the resolicitation for Wolverine #42 took the number 70 spot. Scoring a Top 75 finish for an issue that was resolicitated from last month is impressive.

Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #1 had a bad debut barely making the Top 50 and slotting in at the number 44 spot. Things do not look promising for this five-issue mini-series. Wolverine: Madripoor Knights takes place in the window of Uncanny X-Men #268 published in July 1990 back when Marvel Comics was selling huge numbers of issues. The writer for this mini-series is Chris Claremont. Wolverine: Madripoor Knights is nostalgia bait designed to try and lure back readers who abandoned Marvel Comics over the past five years. I do not think this is going to work.

Resurrection of Magneto #2 crashed and burned falling from the number 15 spot to the number 52 spot. We shall see if this four-issue mini-series can finish in the Top 75.

Cable #2 dropped from the number 52 spot to the number 85 spot. This is no surprise given the terrible debut number that this title had last month. It looks like this four-issue mini-series is going to struggle to conclude in the Top 100.

Avengers Franchise

12 Ultimate Black Panther #1

19 Avengers: Twilight #3

20 Incredible Hulk #9

23 Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #1

27 Avengers #10

45 Sensational She-Hulk #5

49 Immortal Thor #7

50 Captain America #6

65 Invincible Iron Man #15

95 Avengers: Twilight #2 (Resolicitation)

96 Incredible Hulk #8 (Resolicitation)

104 Thunderbolts #3

117 Black Panther #9

118 Avengers: Twilight #1 (Resolicitation)

134 Luke Cage: Gang War #4 (Gang War)

137 Captain Marvel #5

164 Sentry #3

168 White Widow #4

176 Immortal Thor #6 (Resolicitation)

The Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 10 but better in the Top 25 and Top 50 than in January 2024 when the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the Avengers franchise had zero titles in the Top 10, three titles in the Top 25, and five titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as the Avengers franchise had one title in the Top 10, two titles in the Top 25, and three titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

Avengers: Twilight #3 fell from the number 8 spot to the number 19 spot. This issue shipped in the final week of February providing even more proof that shipping in the last week of a month does not doom a title. This six-issue limited series has been an excellent seller for Marvel Comics and may be able to finish in the Top 25 or Top 50.

Avengers #10 dipped from the number 20 spot to the number 27 spot. This is the second straight month that this title has declined in the rankings. This is also the first month that Avengers has ranked outside of the Top 25 since September 2023. Having said that, Avengers is a solid seller and should continue placing in the Top 25 or Top 50 going forward.

Thunderbolts #3 dropped from the number 96 spot to the number 104 spot. With just the third issue, Thunderbolts is now a Dead Title Walking. It is what we have come to expect from any title written by Jackson Lanzing and Colin Kelly.

Let’s check out all of the solo titles.

Ultimate Black Panther #1 had an excellent debut snagging the number 12 spot. Fan interest was high in this issue since the 616 Universe Black Panther comic has been a total sales failure. Hiring a Sociology professor to write Black Panther appealed to few readers.

Ultimate Black Panther is written by Bryan Hill. Hill has never had any sales success, but he is a better mainstream comic book writer than Eve Ewing. No doubt. It will be interesting to see if Hill has his first sales hit on his hand with this four-issue mini-series.

Black Panther #9 ticked up from the number 125 spot to the number 117 spot. It is embarrassing that this title has been a Dead Title Walking every month since Black Panther #3. I have no idea why Marvel Comics’ editorial would mismanage such a popular character in this fashion by hiring Ewing to write this comic.

At any rate, due to these terrible sales, Marvel Comics has canceled Ewing’s Black Panther comic. Black Panther #10 will be the last issue. What an embarrassment. This ongoing comic did not even last for a year. This is no surprise to me as I predicted this would happen back when Ewing was first announced as the writer of this new Black Panther comic.

The final issue will be Black Panther #10. Let’s hope that Marvel Comics’ editorial hires a real superhero writer to handle a new Black Panther title. But, we all know that is probably asking too much from Marvel’s largely clueless editorial staff.

Incredible Hulk #9 climbed from the number 45 spot to the number 20 spot. This is the same place in the rankings that Incredible Hulk #7 had in December 2023. This title continues to be a success.

Immortal Thor #7 dropped from the number 25 spot to the number 49 spot. This is the second straight month that Immortal Thor has dropped in the rankings. But, there is no reason to panic. This issue did ship in the final week of February so it should enjoy a bit of a rebound in March 2024.

Captain America #6 fell from the number 39 spot to the number 50 spot. JMS has been able to keep this comic a Top 50 title every month.

Invincible Iron Man #15 dropped from the number 42 spot to the number 65 spot. This is the second straight month that Mr. Emma Frost’s title has dropped in the rankings. It is also the lowest in the rankings that Mr. Emma Frost has had since August 2023.

Luke Cage: Gang War #4 fell from the number 122 spot to the number 134 spot. With this issue, Luke Cage: Gang War has concluded and was a total sales failure. This four-issue mini-series spent every single issue in the Dead Titles Walking category. Once again, the stunt of hiring a Hollywood writer/producer failed to produce any sales success.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #1 had a solid but not spectacular debut coming in at the number 23 spot. This was also despite the fact this issue had five open order covers, three incentive covers, and four retailer-exclusive covers. This is a sign that this title will be outside of the Top 25 by the second issue but still has a good shot of remaining in the Top 50.

Okay, now it is time to check out the ladies of the Avengers franchise.

Sensational She-Hulk #5 climbed from the number 62 spot to the number 45 spot. This issue was bolstered by three open order covers and two incentive covers. The Greg and Tim Hildebrandt variant cover is amazing! This is the second straight month that She-Hulk has climbed up in the rankings. That is certainly a positive sign for this young title. I am still not confident that this is going to be a consistent Top 50 seller. But, we shall see.

Captain Marvel #5 took the number 137 spot which is the same place in the rankings that Captain Marvel #4 took in January 2024. Yay to being consistently terrible? Alyssa Wong’s Captain Marvel has been a massive failure as it continues to stay in the Dead Titles Walking category with just the second issue.

Sentry #3 fell from the number 149 spot to the number 164 spot. The sales for this four-issue mini-series have been brutal. Nobody other than Marvel Comics’ editorial is interested in this predictable and dull mantle swap Sentry.

White Widow #4 ticked down from the number 167 spot to the number 168 spot. Nobody other than a Marvel Comics editor is surprised that hiring a total rando to write a mainstream superhero comic book was a bad idea.

Batman Franchise

54 Batman City of Madness #3 (Of 3)

60 Detective Comics #1082

63 Red Hood the Hill #1 (Of 6)

141 Batman Superman World’s Finest 2024 Annual #1 (One-Shot) (Resolicitation)

159 Detective Comics #1081 (Resolicitation)

162 Batman #141 (Resolicitation)

163 Batman and Robin 2024 Annual #1 (One-Shot) (Resolicitation)

172 Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #2

175 Harley Quinn #37

186 Batman Off-World #3 (Of 6) (Resolicitation)

The Batman franchise had three comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50. This was better than January 2024 when the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and up in the Top 50 as the Batman franchise had two titles in the Top 10, three titles in the Top 25, and seven titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were up in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and flat in the Top 50 from two years ago as the Batman franchise had one title in the Top 10, three titles in the Top 25, and eight titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

First, let’s look at the Bruce Wayne titles. There is no doubt that the Batman franchise sales success continues to be centered squarely on Bruce Wayne. Seven of the ten best-selling Batman franchise titles were Bruce Wayne titles.

Batman #142 ticked up from the number 4 spot to the number 3 spot. Batman #143 dropped to the number 4 spot. Batman #144 dropped to the number 9 spot. This is insane. I have never seen a single title release three new issues in the same month and slot all three issues in the Top 10. This is why Bruce Wayne is the undisputed crown jewel of DC Comics. Don’t expect DC Comics to mess with this success.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #24 dropped from the number 23 spot to the number 30 spot. This is the same place in the rankings that Batman Superman World’s Finest #22 had in December 2023. This title continues to be a rock-solid Top 50 title every month.

Batman and Robin #6 dipped from the number 41 spot to the number 47 spot. This is the second straight month that this title has dropped in the rankings. However, this title remains a constant Top 50 seller.

Batman City of Madness #3 dropped from the number 46 spot to the number 54 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was a solid seller for DC Comics.

Detective Comics #1082 dropped from the number 34 spot to the number 60 spot. This issue did ship in the final week of February 2024, so there is a good chance that it will rebound back into the Top 50 next month.

Batman the Brave and the Bold #10 fell from the number 106 spot to the number 139 spot. This title continues to struggle to get out of the Dead Titles Walking category.

All right, let’s check out the former Robins.

Nightwing #111 ticked down from the number 27 spot to the number 28 spot. Dick Grayson continues to be a lock for the Top 50 every month.

Red Hood the Hill #1 had a poor debut failing to make the Top 50 and coming in at the number 63 spot. Shawn Martinbrough is the writer. Martinbrough is a comics artist. I am unsure why DC Comics’ editorial thought an artist in his 50s who has never written anything would be a great selection as the writer of a mainstream superhero title. But, here we are. It looks like this six-issue mini-series is going to struggle to conclude in the Top 100.

Red Hood the Hill #0 failed to even make the Top 100 and came in at the number 114 spot. This prologue issue to the six-issue mini-series failed to generate any excitement.

Let’s check out the team titles.

Birds of Prey #6 climbed up from the number 59 spot to the number 39 spot. This was a nice rebound for this title and the highest sales ranking since Birds of Prey #2 in October 2023. This has become a highly unpredictable title. We shall see if it can manage to stick in the Top 50.

Outsiders #4 climbed from the number 141 spot to the number 129 spot. This twelve-issue mini-series cannot get out of the Dead Titles Walking category. Lanzing and Kelly strike again.

Let’s look at the ladies of the Batman franchise.

Poison Ivy #19 ticked up from the number 61 spot to the number 46 spot. This ended a two-month streak of Poison Ivy being outside of the Top 50. This title cracked back into the Top 50 which is where we normally find this title. This is certainly a positive sign after last month.

Catwoman #62 fell from the number 84 spot to the number 93 spot. It looks like Catwoman is heading back to its normal place in the rankings.

Harley Quinn #37 plummeted from the number 109 spot to the number 175 spot. This is around the part of the sales ranking where we normally find this title. It is stunning that DC Comics has zero interest in trying to revive this once extremely popular and strong-selling character. Maybe Tini Howard has incriminating photos of Jim Lee?

Let’s wrap up with the lone villain comic. Penguin #7 dropped from the number 113 spot to the number 128 spot. This twelve-issue mini-series seems more and more of a lock to spend its entire duration in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Superman Franchise

29 Action Comics #1062

30 Batman Superman World’s Finest #24

37 Superman #11

106 Power Girl #6

110 Sinister Sons #1 (Of 6)

119 Kneel Before Zod #2 (Of 12)

136 Superman ’78 The Metal Curtain #4 (Of 6)

141 Batman Superman World’s Finest 2024 Annual #1 (One-Shot) (Resolicitation)

191 Power Girl Uncovered #1 (One-Shot) (Resolicitation)

The Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in January 2024 when the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the Superman franchise had one title in the Top 10, one title in the Top 25, and one title in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as the Superman franchise had zero titles in the Top 10, zero titles in the Top 25, and zero titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

The current numbers compared to two years ago with Jon Kent’s mantle swap Superman are much improved. There is no doubt that the Superman franchise is doing much better than two years ago. But, the month-over-month numbers are not as encouraging.

Action Comics #1062 fell from the number 18 spot down to the number 29 spot. This is despite three open order covers and two incentive covers. It has to be disappointing for DC Comics to see Action Comics outside of the Top 25 with Jason Aaron’s second issue. That is a bad sign. Maybe this is just a temporary blip. DC Comics didn’t spend the money to bring in a “big name” writer to have a title not be a strong seller. This is going to be interesting to watch over the next few months.

Superman #11 fell from the number 24 spot to the number 37 spot. This is as alarming as Action Comics. It has to be worrisome for DC Comics to see both Superman titles already outside of the Top 25. To be fair, Superman #8 did sell outside of the Top 25 in November 2023 and then managed to rebound back into the Top 25 for two straight months. So, it is not panic time just yet. There is a good chance that Superman might rebound and climb back into the Top 25.

Superman ’78 The Metal Curtain #4 fell from the number 92 spot to the number 136 spot. After a two-month stretch, this title finds itself back in the Dead Titles Walking category. I am not bullish on this six-issue mini-series concluding in the Top 100.

Power Girl #6 ticked up from the number 112 spot to the number 106 spot. This issue had three open order covers and one incentive cover. All four covers are fantastic. The Brad Walker cover is wonderfully cheeky. Actually, all four covers are fantastic. If I had to pick a favorite I would probably go with the LauraBraga cover.

The good news is this was the second straight month that this title has climbed up in the rankings. The bad news is that Power Girl seems doomed to remain in the Dead Titles Walking category. Leah Williamson’s writing continues to be atrocious. However, Marguerite Sauvage’s artwork is quite nice! Power Girl is an awesome character and is just one good writer away from being a great comic book.

Sinister Sons #1 had a hideous debut failing to even make the Top 100 and coming in at the number 110 spot. This is despite three open order covers and two incentive covers. This six-issue mini-series looks like it is doomed from the very start.

Kneel Before Zod #2 plummeted from the number 64 spot to the number 119 spot. Wow. This twelve-issue limited series is in the Dead Titles Walking category with just the second issue. Chalk this up to yet another swing and miss of many by DC Comics.

Justice League Franchise

16 Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #5 (Of 7)

26 Wonder Woman #6

42 Green Lantern #8

98 The Flash #6

100 Green Arrow #9

108 Green Lantern War Journal #6

120 DC’s How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days #1 (One-Shot)

124 Green Lantern #87 Facsimile Edition

142 Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #4 (Of 7) (Resolicitation)

144 Fire & Ice Welcome To Smallville #6 (Of 6)

192 Amazons Attack #5

193 Trinity Special #1 (One-Shot) (Resolicitation)

197 Wonder Woman #5 (Resolicitation)

The Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 25 but better in the Top 50 than in January 2024 when the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the Justice League franchise had zero titles in the Top 10, zero titles in the Top 25, and zero titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Numbers were also up from two years ago as the Justice League franchise had zero titles in the Top 10, zero titles in the Top 25, and zero titles in the Top 50 in February 2022.

Obviously, the return of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, Diana as Wonder Woman, and a classic JLA roster mini-series has led to the revival of this franchise.

Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #5 dipped from the number 14 spot to the number 16 spot. This title continues to be a sales beast! There is no doubt that this seven-issue mini-series is going to conclude as a Top 25 seller. What a blessing this title has been for DC Comics! I would think that DC Comics would be looking to do another cross-over with Godzilla and Kong at some point in the future. This title has been the best-selling DC Comics title outside of Batman.

Green Lantern #8 jumped from the number 51 spot to the number 42 spot. This is close to the number 40 spot that Green Lantern #6 had in December 2023. This is a great sign for DC Comics. Green Lantern must remain a solid Top 50 seller each month.

Green Lantern War Journal #6 climbed from the number 126 spot to the number 108 spot. The good news is that this is the third straight month that this title has climbed up in the sales rankings. The bad news is that this title is still stuck in the Dead Titles Walking category.

DC’s How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days #1 had an awful debut falling to even make the Top 100 and coming in at the number 120 spot. Whichever editor thought this one-shot was a good idea needs to sit in the corner with a dunce hat on.

The Flash #6 dropped from the number 72 spot to the number 98 spot. This title continues to struggle to gain any consistent positive momentum.

Green Arrow #9 fell from the number 85 spot to the number 100 spot. This title continues to sell far lower than I was hoping it would sell.

Wonder Woman #6 dropped from the number 19 spot to the number 26 spot. This is the lowest that this new Wonder Woman title has sold since its debut. It must be discouraging to DC Comics to see Wonder Woman already out of the Top 25 after all of their efforts and hiring a “big name” writer in Tom King. This is not that much of a surprise to me. Outside of Batman, King has been known to perform poorly in the sales rankings.

Of course, being at the number 26 spot is a massive improvement for the Wonder Woman franchise which had all of its titles in the Dead Titles Walking category when Yara Flor and Nubia were the centerpieces of the franchise. So, DC Comics is still enjoying a massively improved product from a sales standpoint. Also, being a Top 50 title is nothing to sneeze at. If Wonder Woman can remain a consistent Top 50 title from now on then that should be considered a win for DC Comics.

Amazons Attack #5 came in at the number 192 spot. This is after being unranked and outside of the Top 200 for three straight months. This six-issue mini-series has been an unmitigated sales disaster.

Fire & Ice Welcome To Smallville #6 climbed up from the number 188 spot to the number 144 spot. With this issue, this mini-series has concluded. Nobody outside of DC Comics’ editorial is surprised that this title was a complete sales failure. I am not sure why DC Comics would hire Joanne Starer to write a mainstream superhero comic book. It defies common sense.

Justice Society Franchise

101 Wesley Dodds The Sandman #5 (Of 6)

152 Jay Garrick The Flash #5 (Of 6)

The Justice Society franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in January 2024 when the Justice Society franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Wesley Dodds The Sandman #5 ticked up from the number 105 spot to the number 101 spot. This title continues to struggle to stay out of the Dead Titles Walking category. This mini-series concludes next month and has a chance of ending in the Top 100.

Jay Garrick The Flash #5 dropped from the number 136 spot to the number 152 spot. This is about the same place in the rankings that this mini-series has been mired in during its run. The next issue is the final issue of this mini-series and it seems doomed to finish in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Mantle Swap Titles

17 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #1 (Marvel Comics)

31 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

48 Superior Spider-Man #4 (Marvel Comics)

68 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #17 (Marvel Comics)

71 Daredevil: Gang War #3 (Gang War) (Marvel Comics)

113 Punisher #4 (Marvel Comics)

137 Captain Marvel #5 (Marvel Comics)

156 Blue Beetle #6 (DC Comics)

164 Sentry #3 (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: Speed Force #4 (DC Comics)

There were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10, worse in the Top 25, and flat in the Top 50 than in January 2024 when there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 10 and the Top 25 and up in the Top 50 as there were two mantle swap titles in the Top 10, two titles in the Top 25, and two titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Daredevil: Gang War #3 dropped from the number 68 spot to the number 71 spot. This thirteen-issue limited series keeps trending in the wrong direction.

Punisher #4 fell from the number 88 spot to the number 113 spot. What an epic crash and burn considering that Punisher #1 took the number 11 spot just three months ago! Wow. We have now learned that Marvel Comics has canceled this ongoing title with issue #4.

Take a bow, Marvel Comics fans. You let Marvel Comics know that you were not impressed with their weird behavior concerning Frank Castle. The consumer spoke and rejected this lame mantle swap Punisher. Do I think that Marvel Comics’ editorial will learn anything from this? Of course not.

Blue Beetle #6 ticked up from the number 159 spot to the number 156 spot. Some things are guaranteed to happen. Death, taxes, and Jaime Reyes being a Dead Title Walking.

Sentry #3 fell from the number 149 spot to the number 164 spot. This title has been the poster child of lame ideas from Marvel Comics’ editorial. I am not surprised that the consumer has passed on this title.

Speed Force #4 was unranked for the third straight month. Whoever thought this title was a smart idea probably should get demoted to the mail room at DC Comics. Jarrett Williams has not impressed readers with his effort on this title.

Legacy Character Titles

28 Nightwing #111 (DC Comics)

39 Birds of Prey #6 (DC Comics)

40 Spider-Boy #4 (Marvel Comics)

43 Titans #8 (DC Comics)

63 Red Hood the Hill #1 (Of 6) (DC Comics)

67 Spider-Gwen: Smash #3 (Marvel Comics)

106 Power Girl #6 (DC Comics)

111 Spider-Boy #3 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

114 Red Hood the Hill #0 (DC Comics)

129 Outsiders #4 (DC Comics)

168 White Widow #4 (Marvel Comics)

182 Titans Beast World #6 (Of 6) (DC Comics) (Resolicitation)

191 Power Girl Uncovered #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics) (Resolicitation)

192 Amazons Attack #5 (DC Comics)

193 Trinity Special #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics)

There were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 25 and better in the Top 50 than in January 2024 when there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 25 but up in the Top 50 as there were zero legacy character titles in the Top 10, one title in the Top 25, and two titles in the Top 50 in February 2023.

Titans #8 fell from the number 37 spot to the number 43 spot. A dip in sales was to be expected now that Beast World is in the rearview mirror. I think DC Comics will be happy if the Titans remain a Top 50 seller.

23 Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #1 (Marvel Comics)

26 Wonder Woman #6 (DC Comics)

193 Trinity Special #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics) (Resolicitation)

197 Wonder Woman #5 (DC Comics) (Resolicitation)

Numbers from two years ago were flat in the Top 10 and Top 25, but up in the Top 50 as there were zero female lead titles in the Top 10, one title in the Top 25, and one title in February 2022.

Marvel placed one female lead title in the Top 25. Month-over-month numbers were up as Marvel Comics had zero female lead titles in the Top 25 in January 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had three female lead titles in the Top 25 in February 2023. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had eight female lead titles in the Top 100 in February 2023. Numbers were up in the Top 100 from two years ago as there were two female lead titles in the Top 100 in February 2022.

Marvel Comics barely won 5-4. If I removed the Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver title then February 2024 would have ended in a 4-4 tie. Neither publisher should feel proud about their efforts in this category.

Predator: The Last Hunt #1 had an awful debut coming in at the number 61 spot. Evidently, Predator sells better when combined with Wolverine.

Women of Marvel (2024) #1 had an abysmal debut coming in at the number 154 spot. This is no surprise as these types of issues always sell poorly. Marvel Comics does not care. These titles are for Marvel Comics to feel good about themselves while they pat themselves on their back.

Minority Lead Titles

12 Ultimate Black Panther #1 (Marvel Comics)

17 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #1 (Marvel Comics)

Numbers were down in the Top 100 from two years ago as there was one minority lead title in the Top 100 in February 2022.

Marvel Comics shut out DC Comics 7-0. Marvel Comics is not exactly tearing it up in this category. But, at least it looks like they are trying. What the hell is DC Comics even doing these days? Who knows. Your guess is as good as mine.

There is a continued lack of diversity in this category. There are a total of thirteen black characters, two Asian characters, and one Hispanic character. There is much room for improvement.

Blade #8 ticked down from the number 86 spot to the number 88 spot. This title was a sales failure and has been canceled. Blade #10 will be the final issue. Bryan Hill failed to get enough readers interested in this comic. It is yet another example of hiring a Hollywood screenwriter to write a mainstream superhero comic and failing to have any sales success.

Night Thrasher #1 had a horrendous debut coming in at the number 91 spot. This four-issue mini-series will be in the Dead Titles Walking category with its second issue. Jason Holtham is the writer. Holtham is a Hollywood executive producer and a story editor. Marvel Comics’ editorial hiring non-comic book writers to write their mainstream superhero comics continues to blow up in their faces. Holtham’s Bishop War College was also a sales bust. So, I am not expecting much with Night Thrasher.

This is unfortunate. Night Thrasher is an excellent 1990s character created by the legendary Tom DeFalco. DeFalco’s New Warriors comic in the 1990s was a fun read. I wish Marvel Comics had done Night Thrasher justice and given him a real mainstream superhero comic book writer to handle his mini-series.

Deadly Hands of Kung Fu: Gang War #3 managed to rebound from being unranked and grab the number 133 spot. With this issue, this mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was a huge sales failure.

Dead Titles Walking

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, titles outside of the Top 100 are usually selling under the 18,000 unit sales mark. These are the Marvel Comics and DC Comics titles that are dead titles walking.

Marvel Comics

101-200

102 Giant-Size Fantastic Four #1 (Marvel Comics)

104 Thunderbolts #3 (Marvel Comics)

105 Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1 (Marvel Comics)

109 Carnage #4 (Marvel Comics)

113 Punisher #4 (Marvel Comics)

117 Black Panther #9 (Marvel Comics)

154 Women of Marvel (2024) #1 (Marvel Comics)

164 Sentry #3 (Marvel Comics)

168 White Widow #4 (Marvel Comics)

169 Beware the Planet of the Apes #2 (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: Power Pack: Into the Storm #2 (Marvel Comics)

Marvel Comics had sixteen dead titles walking out of their sixty-five new titles in February 2024. This means that 24% of Marvel Comics’ new titles in February 2024 were dead titles walking.

This was down from the twenty-one dead titles walking that Marvel Comics had in January 2024 which comprised 28% of Marvel Comics’ new titles.

Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had twenty-two dead titles walking in February 2023. This comprised 29% of Marvel Comics’ new titles in February 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had ten dead titles walking in February 2022. The difference between the past year and this year compared to two years ago is striking.

DC Comics

101 Wesley Dodds The Sandman #5 (Of 6) (DC Comics)

106 Power Girl #6 (DC Comics)

108 Green Lantern War Journal #6 (DC Comics)

192 Amazons Attack #5 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Speed Force #4 (DC Comics)

DC Comics had eighteen dead titles walking out of DC Comics’ forty-one new titles in February 2024. This means that 44% of the New DC Comics’ titles in February 2024 were dead titles walking.

This was down from the twenty dead titles walking that DC Comics had in January 2024 which comprised 43% of DC Comics’ new titles.

Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had nineteen dead titles walking in February 2023. This comprised 45% of DC Comics’ new titles in February 2023.

Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had twenty-six dead titles walking in February 2022.

The Editors With the Most Dead Titles Walking

Let’s first take a look at Marvel Comics.

Noah Sharma and Darren Shan had two comics with Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1 at the number 105 spot and Deadly Hands of Kung Fu: Gang War #3 at the number 133 spot.

Mr. Daniel and Ellie Pyle had two comics with Carnage #4 at the number 109 spot and Luke Cage: Gang War #4 at the number 134 spot.

Tom Breevort had two comics with Thunderbolts #3 at the number 104 spot and Punisher #4 at the number 113 spot.

Lindsey Cohick had three comics with Captain Marvel #5 at the number 137 spot, Women of Marvel (2024) #1 at the number 154 spot, and Beware the Planet of the Apes #2 at the number 169 spot.

However, three editors managed to have even more than three dead titles walking.

Sarah Brunstad had four titles with Captain Marvel #5 at the number 137, Women of Marvel (2024) #1 at the number 154 spot, Beware the Planet of the Apes #2 at the number 169 spot, and Power Pack: Into the Storm #2 which was unranked.

Kaitlyn Lindtvedt and Alanna Smith channeled their power of creating comics nobody wants to read with 104 Thunderbolts #3 at the number 104 spot, Sentry #3 at the number 164 spot, White Widow #4 at the number 168 spot, and Power Pack: Into the Storm #2 which was unranked.

All right, now let’s check out DC Comics. There were several editors with two Dead Titles Walking.

James Reid had two comics with Outsiders #4 at the number 129 spot and Harley Quinn #37 at the number 175 spot.

Marquis Draper had two comics with Wesley Dodds The Sandman #5 at the number 101 spot and Jay Garrick The Flash #5 at the number 152 spot.

Brittany Holzherr had two comics with Power Girl #6 at the number 106 spot and Amazons Attack #5 at the number 192 spot.

There was one editor with three Dead Titles Walking. Jillian Grant had three comics with Power Girl #6 at the number 106 spot, Green Lantern War Journal #6 at the number 108 spot, and Kneel Before Zod #2 at the number 119 spot.

There was one editor who had four Dead Titles Walking. Chris Rosa had four comics with Sinister Sons #1 at the number 110 spot, Batman the Brave and the Bold #10 at the number 139 spot, Amazons Attack #5 at the number 192 spot, and Speed Force #4 which was unranked.

Not to be outdone there were actually three editors with five Dead Titles Walking. Ben Abernathy had five comics with Red Hood the Hill #0 at the number 114 spot, Penguin #7 at the number 128 spot, Outsiders #4 at the number 129 spot, Batman the Brave and the Bold #10 at the number 139 spot, and Harley Quinn #37 at the number 175 spot.

Andrew Marino and Katie Kubert combined their forces of cluelessness and had five comics with Wesley Dodds The Sandman #5 at the number 101 spot, DC’s How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days #1 at the number 20 spot, Superman ’78 The Metal Curtain #4 at the number 136 spot, Jay Garrick The Flash #5 at the number 152 spot, and Blue Beetle #6 at the number 156 spot.

However, in the end, Paul Kaminksi pushed aside everyone else as he had six Dead Titels Walking with Power Girl #6 at the number 106 spot, Green Lantern War Journal #6 at the number 108 spot, Sinister Sons #1 at the number 10 spot, Kneel Before Zod #2 at the number 19 spot, Amazons Attack #5 at the number 192 spot, and Speed Force #4 which was unranked.

The Tini Howard Award For The Writer With The Most Dead Titles Walking

Torunn Grønbekk had two comics with Carnage #4 at the number 109 spot and Batman the Brave and the Bold #10 at the number 139 spot.

Robert Venditti had two comics with Wesley Dodds The Sandman #5 at the number 101 spot and Superman ’78 The Metal Curtain #4 at the number 136 spot.

However, not to be outdone, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, The Mega Powers tag team of bad comics combined to have three Dead Titles Walking with Thunderbolts #3 at the number 104 spot, Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1 at the number 105 spot, and Outsiders #4 at the number 129 spot.

Therefore, the Tini Howard Award for February 2024 goes to…Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly!

All right, that is it for February 2024 Will Marvel Comics continue its domination of the Top 200 in March 2024? We will find out. Until then, everyone stay safe and be good!
