Top Takeaways From Marvel Comics September 2025 Solicitations

Marvel Comics September 2025 comic book solicitations are here! September will be a monumental month for fans. Because it marks the kick-off for the new Marvel and DC Comics crossover collaboration decades in the making. That is all happening with Batman and Deadpool leading the way. That is all on top of other big events that Marvel is either leading to their conclusion or ready to begin by the end of the year. Let’s take a look at the biggest takeaways from Marvel Comics September 2025 solicitations.

BATMAN & DEADPOOL LEAD NEW MARVEL X DC COMICS CROSSOVER

It has finally happened. Marvel and DC Comics are once again playing nice with each other, opening the door to a new age of crossovers between the two companies. This is genuinely exciting as a fan because while I’ve read all the old crossover comics I never got to experience them in real time. So I am very excited for what we could get.

And from the comic book we are getting to start things off we will definitely be getting new team-ups. That is shown as Batman and Deadpool are the first DC Comics and Marvel duo to team-up with one another. This is not an unsurprising team up given Batman is by far the most popular character for either company and Deadpool has major crossover popularity.

Starting off with Batman/Deadpool also signals that we will see the changes since the last Marvel x DC Comics crossover. Specifically, with how the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed the landscape of the popularity of many characters. It won’t be surprising that outside the expected Spider-Man, X-Men, Superman, and Wonder Woman team-ups we will see an emphasis on characters from the live-action MCU and DCU.

SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES FINALLY SAVES MARY JANE WATSON

Like many kids who grew up in the 90s Spider-Man: The Animate Series, along with Batman and X-Men TAS, was what got me into reading comic books. But like so many Spider-Man animated series, the 90s cartoon ended in a cliffhanger with Madame Web leading Peter Parker on a journey to find Mary Jane Watson, who was lost somewhere in the multiverse. That is where things ended and we never got an answer to what happened.

Now we are finally getting that answer with the new Spider-Man ’94 mini-series. Based on the solicitation Spider-Man ’94 #1 will begin with Peter having already found and brought Mary Jane Watson back to their universe. While not confirmed, the swiftness of finding MJ does work with how the cliffhanger of the original animated. Finding MJ was supposed to be a reward for Peter after leading the heroes in defeating Doctor Doom during Secret Wars and saving the Multiverse from his crazed counterpart from another universe.

The solicitation also teases the debut of two Spider-Man villains that did not appear in the show. Since the 90s cartoon ended there have been many new villains brought into Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. Mister Negative and Morlun are two villains that could easily be brought into this universe. Whatever the case will be we can just hope that J.M. DeMatteis and Jim Towe treat what the staff of the cartoon created with great care.

RETURN TO SECRET WARS’ BATTLEWORLD

Marvel returning to the well of successful comic book events is something you can always depend on them doing. So it was no surprise to see Marvel diving back into Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars with a new Battleworld mini-series. While originally scrolling through Marvel Comics September solicitations Battleworld #1 was one that I initially missed. It was one of those white noise comic books because we’ve seen Marvel do this so often.

Now one thing that does catch my eye with this new Battleworld #1 series is the possibility of Maestro being the lead antagonist. Maestro is one of those villains Marvel has dropped the ball on in the modern era. There is potential for Battleworld to position Maestro as a major threat once again.

Battleworld also looks to position this as a Spider-Man led event. Spider-Man is all over the main and variant covers, firmly positioned in the center. The mix of characters along with Spider-Man indicates this will be an event that will have different versions of the characters across all of Marvel’s eras. That could help provide a different energy to this Battleworld as character portrayals could play into characters being from different time periods.

CHARLES XAVIER & LILANDRA JOIN IMPERIAL WAR

Imperial is taking a bit of a break for September. To fill in the gap we are getting two new one-shots that will dive further into the impact of the Imperial War. That is being done through Imperial War one-shots for the Exiles and Nova Centurion.

On the Imperial War: Exiles one-shot front, Marvel is now shifting Charles Xavier away from the X-Men to the cosmic side of things. This is a much-needed change for Charles Xavier’s character. Xavier ran his course with what can be done with him and the X-Men. Shifting the character to the cosmic side can be the refreshing change of pace he needs.

Pairing Xavier back with Lilandra adds to this change. As former leaders of nations and planets they could help provide some direction for the chaotic situation going on right now. Their daughter, Xandra, could certainly use their help as her reign as the Empress has been an shaky period for the Shi’ar Empire, to say the least. Though what this being an Exiles one-shot rather than Shi’ar Empire means for what will happen is anyone’s guess.

The Nova Centurion one-shot also has as much interest behind it. Richard Rider has been positioned as an important character for the Imperial one-shot as Star-Lord’s best friend and last of the Nova Centurions. Based on how Imperial #1 went it wouldn’t be surprising if Jonathan Hickman will further hint at the Nova Corps return. They’ve been gone for to long. Whatever the case is it would not be surprising if one of the big cosmic changes is the Nova Corps return by the end of Imperial.

ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM TRUE SECRET REVEALED

Marvel Comics September 2025 Solicitations: One World Under Doom #7

The latest issue of One World Under Doom ended with Maria Hill showing up in the last page. This last second appearance came at a point when it seemed the majority of the heroes were being convinced Doctor Doom’s rule was not a bad thing. Maria Hill threw a massive curve ball by revealing she knows, or at least has an idea of, how Doctor Doom truly conquered the world.

Maria Hill revealing this is all the heroes like Iron Man and Fantastic Four to be committed to Doctor Doom still being a villain. That is going to be truly tested in One World Under Doom #7 as the truth is teased to be revealed by the start of that issue. Doctor Doom has been so in control of things that it will be very interesting to see how he responds to be thrown off in such a way.

Of course the character that will be making the biggest gamble against Doctor Doom is Mr. Fantastic. There is no Doctor Doom event without Reed Richards being there to spoil all of his plans. They are forever rivals that will always be there to take the other down.

With how much power Doctor Doom has accumulated it puts into question what Reed Richards could be preparing as a counter. We already saw that Reed and the Fantastic Four were completely schooled by the Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Doom. Reed will have to bust out all his science skills and even then, dig into the multiverse to possibly counter his eternal rival.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN SPLITS INTO TWO

It was bound to happen that Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and John Romita Jr’s would have a big twist to it. Things have been way too normal in a Nick Lowe edited comic book to have this volume of Amazing Spider-Man keep going down this path. What that twist is will happen in Amazing Spider-Man #11 as Spider-Man will be split up into two separate characters still using the same name.

Interestingly, the solicitation for Amazing Spider-Man #11 doesn’t state it is Peter Parker being split into two. This puts into question if we will see Peter Parker be the one that takes on the cosmic Spider-Man role while leaving his alternate as the Earth Spider-Man.

What brings the question of Peter Parker’s status quo into question is how Amazing Spider-Man #12 brings up Spider-Man going to far. So the Spider-Man that is left on Earth is fully taking on the Unfriendly Neighborhood Spider-Man role. This all puts him into conflict with the rest of the Spider-Man family. And while Peter’s relationship with all the Spider-Man family members have varied throughout the years it has never been to the point of all of them looking to stop him.

All of that does point to Peter being the one sent to space as the cosmic Spider-Man. Which the timing does put into question if we will see Amazing Spider-Man be a key part of the new direction the cosmic side of Marvel will go post-Imperial. Balancing that with the Earth based adventures will be a big challenge that Kelly, Larraz, and Romita are hopefully up for taking on in the right way.

FRANK CASTLE IS BACK AND LEADING MARVEL’S NEW RED BAND IMPRINT

Marvel Comics September 2025 Solicitations: Punisher Red Band #1

Marvel is quietly introducing a new imprint with the Red Band title. Previously, Red Band name was given for comics releasing a second Rated R-like version of the comic with more blood and uncensored scenes, as we saw with Wolverine: Revenge. Now we are seeing the Red Band name be used as an imprint similar to Ultimate Universe. That comes in the form of Marvel Zombies: Red Band and Punisher: Red Band.

Picking Marvel Zombies and Punisher to set the tone for what the Red Band imprint will be is a strong choice. Both fit with the uncensored direction Red Band should have without forcing the character or universe to be “extreme.” If Marvel is to continue to use Red Band as an imprint they should use it for characters that fit that style rather than just going with Spider-Man or others that don’t fit that tone.

On the current comic book side, Frank Castle being brought back to reclaim his Punisher name is long overdue. Marvel trying to turn Punisher into a mantle others could pick up was just never going to work. More than any superhero name Punisher is Frank Castle because of what made him become that. And we saw that when they did try to replicate that with another character Marvel failed to find a new Punisher.

Punisher coming back in September is also interesting timing. If Punisher: Red Band is in continuity there is an opportunity to use the One World Under Doom status quo as part of the story. With villains taking over Punisher could play an intriguing role of how his views may or may not match the current state of the Marvel Universe.

THREE MONTHS REMAIN FOR THE MAKER’S ULTIMATE UNIVERSE RETURN

September will mark only three months remaining before The Maker makes his grand return to the Ultimate Universe. Hitting this mark is particularly important. With Marvel Comics September solicitations we see all the long-term storylines each Ultimate Universe title has been telling since their respective launches starting to reach their culmination point.

That is not at all a coincidence as it has been clear that Ultimate Spider-Man, Black Panther, X-Men, Wolverine, and Ultimates have an endpoint. That endpoint is coinciding with The Maker’s return. It adds to the importance of what the characters of these series are doing. Each one has had a connection to The Maker’s Council in some form or fashion. So no doubt the resolutions that we will see September really leading all these characters down will be important.

The big wild card in this is the Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion mini-series. The penultimate chapter of Miles Morales journey through the new Ultimate Universe should clarify the importance of the card The Maker left in Miles’ hand. That card could be what possibly unlocks The Maker’s return to be even sooner than expected. It would certainly line-up with how we will get into the last quarter of 2025 and 2026 could kick off with an Ultimate Universe event.

DANNY RAND IS THE UNDEAD IRON FIST

Marvel Comics September 2025 Solicitations: Undead Iron Fist #1

To celebrate Iron Fist’s 50th anniversary last year Marvel decided to kill off Danny Rand. Recent years weren’t so kind to Danny between Iron Fist’s Netflix series being heavily disliked and the comics looking to replace him as Iron Fist. So Danny’s death during the Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special one-shot was not all that surprising.

But now after a year after his death Danny is returning as Iron Fist. Though unlike other returns Danny isn’t being brought back to life. His status will be changing from the Immortal Iron Fist to the Undead Iron Fist. That’s right, Danny will now be walking around as a zombie Iron Fist in the Marvel Universe.

Now being an undead is certainly different way to bring back a character for Marvel. So they at least get credit for that. While a unique return the success will really come down to how the creative team, Jason Loo and Fran Galan, approach things. Fran Galan is a very good artist with last year’s Pine and Merrimac being one of my favorite comic books of 2025. That said, I’m unfamiliar with Jason Loo’s writing. So hopefully Marvel affords them the creative freedom to tell a strong story rather than being heavily editorially mandated.
