Because of that it makes trying to select the ten best comic books of the month so tough. With that in mind, find out what made my list of the ten best comic books released in June 2025.
ABSOLUTE BATMAN #9

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Nick Dragotta
Colorist: Frank Martin
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Absolute Batman #9 speaks to what kind of an opportunity a new universe can provide. Even the characters you know can be presented in a completely new way while keeping the spirit of why you are a fan. That is the magic of what Absolute Batman #9 you are completely immersed in how Bruce Wayne’s dynamic with his supporting cast is. Seeing Batman without his cowl interacting with Harvey Dent, Oswald Cobblepot, Edward Nygma, and Alfred Pennyworth really emphasizes this is Bruce’s story. This gets the message of Batman being an extension of Bruce rather than the other way around without beating it over your head with it. This leads to creating a tense story as Bruce searches for his best friend, Waylon Jones. It provides a natural entry to explore Gotham City that leads to a strong debut of Absolute Bane.
GREEN LANTERN #24

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jeremy Adams
Artist: Xermanico
Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
It is sign of a creative team that has built a lot of trust with readers that when introducing things that don’t necessarily align with continuity you aren’t bothered by it. Instead, you get excited by the possibilities they open. That is exactly the feeling had with how Jeremy Adams and Xermanico use Green Lantern #24 to bring in elements from the Green Lantern: The Animated Series. It helps that the build up to that moment continues to make this series feel like a big event. The way Adams and Xermanico balance so many different planes of action that Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, Carol Ferris, and others are involved in is impressive. It all works to build high anticipation for the “Starbreaker Supremacy” crossover starting in the next issue of this series.
IMPERIAL #1

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artists: Iban Coello and Federico Vicentini
Colorist: Federico Blee
Letterer: Cory Petit
Jonathan Hickman once again brings his chapter-style storytelling to the Marvel Universe to begin the latest cosmic epic with Imperial #1. With how Marvel’s cosmic side is constantly impacted by the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and other major franchises the chapter-style storytelling worked to benefit how Imperial starts. Hickman starts by focusing on the Hulk as an avatar to introduce us to the current state of the Marvel Universe. From there we get an immediate investment in the story that is causing cosmic politics to erupt in chaos as various planets’ leaders are being targeted for assassination. The revelation made with how Wakanda is behind the plot that kicks off the latest Marvel cosmic epic creates a lot of intrigue for what will happen in Imperial.
INVINCIBLE UNIVERSE: BATTLE BEAST #2

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Ryan Ottley
Colorist: Annalisa Leoni
Letterer: Rus Wooton
There are very few things that are as hype as a fighting tournament. The setting can deliver some of the best fights we can get in every medium. That is the exact potential Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #2 taps into with our series lead joining a bloody cosmic tournament. The fighting is not pretty whatsoever but we should never expect that. This is Battle Beast we are talking about afterall. He will take no mercy in his search to find a warrior that can provide the challenge he is looking for. The brutality shown works to drive home why Battle Beast is a compelling character. In the process Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley further explore the Invincible Universe in a way that expands on a universe fans love.
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #8

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Dan Mora
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Ariana Maher
The “We Are Yesterday” crossover has been a disappointing mix bag with how it was structured. Luckily the crossover with Batman/Superman: World’s Finest ends strong with Justice League Unlimited #8. Throughout this final battle versus Gorilla Grodd, or Gorilla God as he calls himself, the fighting is epic. It is no surprise as Mark Waid lets Dan Mora do what he does best. That is to get epic splash pages and action sequences that constantly build excitement with each turn of the page. The integration of Darkseid’s aura being felt throughout this final battle added to the importance of the Justice League stopping Gorilla Grodd. The entire story wraps up in a way that sets the stage for the next phase of DC All In with major implications for the bigger event the company is setting up.
STORM #9

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Murewa Ayodele
Artist: Lucas Werneck
Colorist: Alex Guimaraes
Letterer: Travis Lanham
Storm #9 delivers everything you can want to set the stage for “Thunder War” to be positioned as a big event-level story. Murewa Ayodele and Lucas Werneck maximize the page count they are given for this issue. Every page reminds the reader of the importance of what Storm and others are doing. This helps to progress Storm’s elevation to being a cosmic-level character that we see taking on threats normally reserved for Thor. The way Storm’s supporting cast is also being positioned helped strengthen all the developments that go on. By the time you get to the final page you’ll the excitement level is there to believe “Thunder War” will be a big event.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #9

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Juan Ferreyra
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9 is an incredibly intense chapter of Jason Aaron’s creative run. That is saying a lot given what happened in each of the previous eight issues. Aaron along with Juan Ferreyra nail how much of an emotional and physical toll each of the members the Turtles have been through the last few years. It all culminates in a way that you feel even more invested in where things go next. The best thing is that Aaron and Ferreyra present it all in a way that embraces the history of IDW’s TMNT Universe while still basing it all on the developments in this volume of the series. It all leads to creating the feeling wanting to read what comes next right away.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES X NARUTO #4

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Caleb Goellner
Artist: Hendry Prasetya
Colorist: Raul Angulo
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto was a dream crossover that I never imagined we would get. But here we are in 2025 and we got this crossover. As this final issue shows Caleb Goellner and Hendry Prasetya knew what the assignment, they had with the TMNT and Naruto characters final showdown with Super Shredder. The entire fight with Super Shredder had all the power of friendship moments you can want from this type of crossover. The different team-ups leading to Naruto creating a new Rasengan was very reminiscent to the animated movies. If you are a TMNT or Naruto fan this is a must-read comic book.
TRANSFORMERS #21

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist: Jorge Corona
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Letterer: Rus Wooton
The pacing on Transfomers #21 was on point from beginning to end. Every moment that the Autobots, Decepticons, and humans make is crucial to their respective sides. We immediately see how the decisions of one can affect others. And for the decisions that we don’t directly see the results of are done in a way you know we’ll come back to in a dramatic way. It all goes to show how intense the latest Autobots vs Decepticons clash. That all culminates with Optimus Prime making a decision that leaves your jaw on the floor. It is all a reminder that this is a must-read comic book.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #18

CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Marco Checchetto
Colorist: Erick Arciniega
Letterer: Cory Petit
Peter Parker return in Ultimate Spider-Man #18 drives home how much Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto has done with this series. Forced into hiding for several months means Peter and his family have missed so much. That includes Gwen Stacy making game changing decisions that alter the landscape of the criminal underworld of New York City that Wilson Fisk runs. This helps to highlight how different Ultimate Peter Parker is from his main universe counterpart. Hickman and Checchetto treat Peter like an adult with how he processes everything he learns. The way Peter is portrayed positions him as an interesting third party in everything going on with the Sinister Six. These stakes are then elevated by the decision Peter’s son, Richard Parker, makes that’s a major curve ball for Spider-Man’s future. There is now an uncertainty of where the story will go next that hooks you into wanting to read what happens next right away.
