WonderCon 2018: Power Rangers: Shattered Grid

Power Rangers: Shattered Grid is the biggest Power Rangers event since Forever Red. This is the massive crossover event that will have the Power Rangers from various meeting to fight off the threat of Drakkon. To celebrate the occasion BOOM! Studios brought Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, David Yost (Original Blue Ranger Bill Cranston), Melissa Flores and Dafna Pleban to WonderCon 2018 for a special Power Rangers: Shattered Grid panel.

Ryan Parrott opens the panel discussion by revealing to those that may have not known that the Ranger Slayer that appeared at the end of his latest issue of Go Go Power Rangers is Kimberly from the Drakkon Universe. Along with her cliffhanger appearance they show the character design from the Ranger Slayer Kimberly, who will be a major part of Shattered Grid.

Melissa Press talks about the excitement around Shattered Grid and developing it over the last year. Before she can finish Paul Schrier, who played Bulk Bulkmeier on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, appears randomly from the crowd. He “stumbles” onto the stage and then proceeds to hug David Yost.

Continuing on with the panel, Kyle Higgins talks about how his character choices for Shattered Grid were methodically thought out to enhance the journey of each Ranger involved in the event.

When asked about his experience seeing a new people learning about Billy, David Yost says he and the rest of the original cast is extremely appreciative and honored that BOOM! Studios brought back and given new life to the characters that they played. David says that the Power Rangers comics have brought him into the comic book world. David then asks if it was intentional that Billy’s dad looks like him. Ryan says “maybe.”

They then surprise everyone in attendance for the panel with a copy of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25. Everyone is given 10-15 minutes to read the issue before continuing the panel.

(Editor Note: Everything that happened after everyone read MMPR #25 spoils the events of part one of Shattered Grid. Out of respect to BOOM! Studios, Kyle Higgins and the entire team I will not mention any spoilers for the issue here. Also expect a full review of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 first thing in the morning on March 28th, the day the issue is released, here at the Revolution.)

After the majority of the audience read Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 the rest of the panel’s time is spent talking about the major events of the first chapter of Shattered Grid.
