Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 8 - Himawari Uzumaki

Himawari Uzumaki Unexpected Spotlight In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 8

Himawari Uzumaki got a major spotlight in with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 8, titled “It Doesn’t Matter.” This continued how Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has been delivering one major chapter after another. The timeskip has been a real boom for the series. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has been able to take everything its predecessor did to establish the new generation of the Naruto Universe and gone to another level. This latest revelation has the possibility of elevating Himawari, Naruto and Hinata’s youngest daughter, to be part of the main cast of the series moving forward.

Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto have not wasted time already making Boruto: Two Blue Vortex deal with the current situation with the God Tree group. The new God Tree group have been consistent in showing that they are coming after those they are targeting most. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 8 Jūra and Hidari invaded the Hidden Leaf Village to find their targets, Naruto Uzumaki and Sarada Uchiha respectively.

Jūra targeting Naruto initially implied that Kawaki would be who the leader of the God Tree group would take on. Afterall, Kawaki has Naruto and Hinata locked in another dimension. But because Naruto is another dimension it wasn’t clear if Jūra was aware of this given the God Tree groups targets are based on their own desires.

Which is where things got even more layered as while Jūra was in Konoha he detected chakra similar to Naruto’s Tailed Beast chakra. This is odd not just because Naruto is another dimension but also because Naruto was no longer a Bijuu after burning all of Kurama’s entire being was destroyed when the Baryon Mode was activated. But what was revealed was that the person who Jūra found was Naruto’s daughter, Himawari Uzumaki.

Jūra tracking down Himawari Uzumaki is a major development for the character. Up until now Himawari has been a minor character at best in the series. Though Kishimoto and Ikemoto hinted they were changing that as Himawari was shown training with Chōchō, Shikadai, and Inojin during the timeskip. Showing Himawari training in the first chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex was more proper screen time than she has had in the first series.

Now with it being shown that Himawari was the one who Jūra found when following the Bijuu chakra he detected. Unlike Boruto, Himawari inherited the Hyūga Clan’s Byakugan from Hinata’s side. Now it looks like Himawari also inherited Naruto’s Bijuu chakra.

This is certainly different from Boruto, who inherited the chakra prowess and longevity of the Uzumaki Clan, Hyūga Clan’s chakra control and connection to the Ōtsutsuki, and Namikaze Clan’s time and space jutsu specialty. Based on Himawari’s developments it appears hers are more directly connected to her parents power set while Boruto’s is around their family clans.

Kishimoto and Ikemoto are hopefully keeping in mind the delicate tightrope they are walking with Himawari Uzumaki. This type of revelation is something we’ve seen happen in many other series beyond just manga. Usually this leads to characters becoming a plot device. For Himawari this set-up does create the scenario of her being used as a plot device as she becomes a way for Jūra and Boruto to reach the dimension Kawaki has Naruto and Hinato locked into.

As when other creators have done it, this would be a massive disappointment for Himawari. Rather than being a plot device this should be used as an opportunity to make Himawari as main cast member. She is such a blank slate that there is plenty of potential for her character to play an important character moving forward. Not only can she be key in saving Naruto but helps bring back the Tailed Beast that were taken out during Boruto Part 1.

Kishimoto and Ikemoto have hopefully learned this and will continue to make Two Blue Vortex not just be all about Boruto and Kawaki like the first series was. Based on the flashforward that started the Boruto series we know where all of this is leading towards. Himawari has the potential to be a character that plays a key role in this story.
