“Character Assassination Part 1”

This issue appears to be the wrap up of 3 of the storylines that have been running in Spidey. First up is the mayoral race. Second is the mystery of who is the Spider Tracer Murderer. The last one is the identity of Menace.

The mayoral race gives us some down to earth type moments for the story. Villains Shocker and Boomerang have an interesting discussion about voting. Boomerang is trying to convince Shocker that he needs to vote. It looks like the vote will go down to the wire so the super villain vote could be critical.

Someone has been killing people and leaving a spider tracer on them. Of course, the police are trying to hunt down Spidey since he is the logical suspect. Guggenheim throws a twist into the final scenes when it appears that the murderer’s identity is revealed.

Peter has a dream that the gray goblin type character called Menace is really his old buddy Harry Osborn. We will have to wait and see if his dream is right.

The action in this issue is provided by the police hunting Spider-Man. Romita and Janson turn in their usual high quality art to showcase the hunt.

Another good issue of Spider-Man. If this 4-parter delivers the resolution to some of these plot threads, it will be a success.

Highly recommended.
