DC Comics August 2026 Solicitations 10 Biggest Takeaways

DC Comics August 2026 solicitations have arrived! With it we see how DC Comics is shaping their event calendar for the second half of 2026. Along with continuing building towards an Absolute Universe event we see Batman and Superman involved in their own crossovers. We also get to see the start of a follow-up to the Dakota Incident in New Titans that DC Comics teased earlier this year. What else should we look forward to in August? Find out with our top ten takeaways from DC Comics August 2026 comic book solicitations.

10) JUSTICE LEAGUE BASEBALL GAME OF THE YEAR

One of the things that has been missing from modern day superhero comic books is the silly one-shot sports stories. The X-Men always had the iconic baseball or basketball games. More of that type of fun is missing from modern comics. That is where Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #54 is stepping in to save comics with a baseball game hosted by the Justice League.

Joking aside, it is great to see that we are just going to be getting a fun sporting event story in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest. It is an opportunity to see the Justice League competing in something that isn’t the end of the world. And with everything else going on in both the DC and Absolute Universes having this type of comic book will be refreshing to have.

9) EMPEROR AQUAMAN MEETS HIS GOD

It was only a matter of time before Aquaman got the attention of a higher power. Afterall, he has been using his power upgrades to make sure everyone knew that he is taking his vision for Atlantis beyond the waters of Earth. Though the higher power that Aquaman gets the attention of is from the same waters he is protecting.

That is because the God that will be appearing in Emperor Aquaman #20 is none other than Poseidon. It makes sense with how heavy the DC Universe leans on Greek Mythology. It fits with everything Aquaman has been doing with his new powers that he would get the attention of the God he would be most connected to. It could lead to a possible event down the line where Atlantis comes under attack by Poseidon and his other God friends.

8) FLASH TAKES HIS TALENTS TO METROPOLIS

With Superman MIA and the Superman Family busy taking on General Zod off world it will leave Metropolis without a protector. That is where Wally West’s Flash speeds his way in to fill the hole being left by the Superman Family. This is after Wally seemingly has Central City and Keystone City well protected thanks to his recent actions.

Though unlike Central City and Keystone City, Metropolis is a whole new world for Flash. Both cities that Flash has been protecting are well known to him. Metropolis is a placed where all the villains have been built to take on Superman. Will Flash be ready for these types of daily threats? Or is he stretching himself to far? We’ll wait and see.

7) DYNAMIC DUO FIRST YEAR EXPLORED

If there is one creative team you want to have working together to modernize your universe it is Mark Waid and Chris Samnee. They are a dream creative team with everything they have worked together being absolute magic. Waid has done a lot to modernize the first few years of the DC Universe through Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, Batman and Robin: Year One, World’s Finest: Teen Titans, and New History of the DC Universe. Then there’s Samnee’s artwork for those titles from interiors or covers that show he has a good eye for keeping classic looks and modernizing them in a way that keeps character’s iconic looks.

Now they will be continuing their work together with Batman & Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos. This will be a sequel to the Batman and Robin: Year One series that was one of the best comic books of 2025. Its not surprising that DC Comics would be quick to follow up with another series spotlighting the original Dynamic Duos early years. That is something that is needed since that is a period we only saw in flashbacks before Waid and Samnee started this series of comics.

6) HOW LONG WILL THE DC UNIVERSE AMNESTY PROGRAM LAST

Once again the problems with the Amnesty Program set up post-DC K.O. is brought up in Justice League Unlimited #22 solicitation. The focus of the solicitation is on the returning threat of Despero. That will be the main focus of the story for Justice League Unlimited #22.

That said, the fact we once again see the solicitation teasing the rocky state of the Amnesty program that wiped out the DCU villains slate is notable. As of now only Justice League Unlimited has made this a big deal. At some point soon we got to get a payoff for the tension the Amnesty program created. If not than it will just become a tired trope that is leaned on rather than being the thing keeping readers hooked.

5) ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE TESTING WHAT SUPERHERO SYMBOLS REPRESENT

Testing the heroes and if they can still be superheroes in a universe that is completely against them has been the underlying narrative of the Absolute Universe. We see an even greater emphasis on that in the Absolute Universe titles in August. There is a running theme across all the titles about the heroes symbols being tested.

That is led by Absolute Batman where Bruce Wayne will question what exactly he is doing as all his friends seemingly turn into enemies. Meanwhile both Absolute Superman and Wonder Woman will kickoff new storylines that get them tied deeper into their classic mythos but in whole new ways. Then there is Absolute Flash, Green Lantern, Catwoman, and Green Arrow are all getting involve in things that threaten their own futures. All further drive home what has made the Absolute Universe a must-buy still running strong in August.

4) ALFRED PENNYWORTH REPLACEMENT DEBUT

Ahead of the Batman crossover event Bruce Wayne will be getting some unexpected help. In the lead up to Bad Seeds we will see a new ally for Bruce showing up. That ally comes thanks to Alfred Pennyworth as he sends Bruce a new butler to help him fill Alfred’s role.

Interestingly enough the new butler is a previously unknown female character. It is a bit surprising given that there was the opportunity to bring back Julia Pennyworth. She more than proved to be a valuable ally in the times she has appeared.

Also this new character appearing now when Gotham City is against him and Vandal Savage is in control is curious. At least a year has passed in DC Universe time since Alfred was killed by Bane. Why did this new character choose this time to suddenly appear to help Bruce out? It certainly something to keep an eye out for.

3) KINGDOM OF ZOD SUPERMAN CROSSOVER BEGINS

Not to be left out of the crossover fun we have a new Superman crossover officially starting in August. We will get our first glimpse at the event in July’s Action Comics #1100 as it establishes what kicks of the Kingdom of Zod crossover. From there we will see the story told in the pages of the Supergirl, Action Comics, Superman Unlimited, and Superman series. The Superman Family crossover event will stretch from August to the end of September, ending with the Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special.

Based on the information about this crossover this will be a story led by Supergirl. She will be leading a Superman Family team of Superboy-Prime, Conner Kent, Tomorrow Man, Lois Lane, Steel, Lana Lang, Natasha Irons, Princess Shark and more to take on General Zod. Supergirl leading the Kingdom of Zod event is fitting with DC Comics commitment to her character. She is well positioned to have her status elevated thanks to this event coming right after her live-action movie.

Interestingly, we don’t see Jon Kent mentioned as part of the cast of this event. Jon doesn’t even appear on the promotional spread cover for Kingdom of Zod. This could be excused by saying that Jon is busy with his full-time role as a member of the New Titans. Still, it is a noticeable absence after how much time and effort was put into Jon being Clark’s successor. Missing the big Superman event of 2026 is not a good sign for where Jon stands now.

2) STATIC JOINS THE NEW TITANS

After the release of the Dakota Incident one-shot the question was when we would see the Milestone Comics’ characters again. The way the story ended did explain why Static, Icon, Rocket, and others aren’t part of the present of the DC Universe. It also teased us with them returning at some point.

We now have an answer to what the next phase of the story that the Dakota Incident will take place. That will be in the pages of New Titans. Starting with New Titans #38 we will see Static joining the team. This time it won’t be as a new hero to the DC Universe like in previous attempts to make Static part of the Teen Titans. He is going to be joining the Titans with years of experience under his belt, though having been retired for years up to this point. What that means for the dynamic of the team will be interesting.

Though before we get into the next phase of the Dakota Incident storyline it looks like the Static will join the New Titans in dealing with a problem involving the Amazons. The team dealing with an Amazons related problem may be why we see Yara Flor as the only one not excited about Static joining the team on the cover of New Titans #38. It is certainly not a good first impression that Yara is giving, though the solicitation may be why.

1) BAD SEEDS LOOM OVER BATMAN FAMILY

With Mayor Pamela Isley and GCPD Commissioner Vandal Savage in control of Gotham City time has been the Batman Family’s enemy. Things are going to be getting even worse for them as Mayor Isley’s reign will possibly be on its last legs in August. Because of that Mayor Isley will be tapping into her Poison Ivy side to launch a last ditch war against the Batman Family to keep a firm grasp on her control of Gotham City.

With Poison Ivy making desperate moves it will lead to the first Batman event under the DC Next Level banner titled Bad Seeds. To set the stage for the event Poison Ivy #47 and Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset one shot will create the foundation in August. From there the main event will take place across all the Batman titles published from September and October.

The timing works out as all the creative teams for the Batman Family have been showing how public opinion has turned against them. So if there was a time to do this type of crossover it would be now. It’ll also help line up greater synergy in the future between Batman, Poison Ivy, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn. By the end of Bad Seeds we should get a good idea where things will stand for the Batman Family to start 2027.
