Marvel Comics August 2026 solicitations are here! Along with their Avengers and X-Men events, Armageddon and DNX respectively, we got other big things coming from Marvel this summer. That includes the start of a brand new universe led by Jonathan Hickman. They will also be celebrating Amazing Spider-Man’s 1000th issue. What else can we expect from Marvel in August? Find out with our ten big takeaways from Marvel Comics August 2026 solicitations.

NOTE: Breakdown of DNX #1 solicitation is left out due to it being previously appearing in Marvel’s July solicitations. You can read thoughts on the announcement that made the number one spot in Marvel’s July solicitations by clicking here.

10) WHIPLASH RETURNS TO HAUNT IRON MAN

Continuing the trend of those around Iron Man getting upgrades to match Tony Stark’s current level we are getting the return of Whiplash. That will happen in Iron Man #8 where we see a silhouette of Whiplash with upgraded full body armor.

This keeps up Joshua Williamson’s mission to revamp Iron Man’s rogues gallery. That is certainly something Iron Man has needed for a while. Iron Man has a good rogues gallery but one that never gets much development beyond the Mandarin. Let’s see if Whiplash’s upgrades will make him a major long-term threat.

9) WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE SPIDER-MAN FAMILY

For the last few years Marvel went even deeper into the Spider-Man Family bag to create more comic books. There was a point that it felt like every new and old Spider-Man Family member was getting a shot at a mini-series or ongoing. But now with the end of Spider-Versity that investment into the Spider-Man Family is going to be going away.

That is at least what Marvel seems to indicate with only Peter Parker and Miles Morales having lead titles. While it would not be surprising if we get another Spider-Gwen series at some point in the next year there is a lot of uncertainty around other Spider-Man Family members. A renewed investment in them may not happen until 2027 when we get Beyond the Spider-Verse.

8) THOR REACHES ITS 800TH LEGACY ISSUE

Thor will be hitting a milestone in August. That will come in the form of Mortal Thor #14 spiritual being the 800th legacy issue for the character. That means Mortal Thor #14 will be an oversized issue even though it is not a traditional ongoing issue number.

Given the current direction for Mortal Thor it does seem like the 800th legacy issue for the character will just be more of a typical oversized issue. It is the tough spot of where the direction is right now to do major things. The only major tease is if we will see the Immortal Thor return but even then that is not a big change. It would just go back to the original status quo before this current creative direction.

7) FANTASTIC FOUR CELEBRATING THEIR 65TH ANNIVERSARY

The Fantastic Four join in on August, being a month of celebrating as it will mark their 65th anniversary of publication. That is a major mark to hit that shows the longevity of the franchise. Even though Marvel hasn’t always been committed to keeping the Fantastic Four as one of their pillar franchises the fact is they’ve survived all the creative turmoil.

And right now the Fantastic Four has been as good as it gets under Ryan North’s direction. He’s done a lot to get the Fantastic Four back into being as many adventures as they are a superhero team. That has been a breath of fresh air that has spotlighted what makes them unique in comparison to the Avengers, X-Men, and other superhero teams.

As for Fantastic Four #15 itself it looks like it’ll be the typical celebration issue. The solicitation does the typical thing of having a lot of words but not really saying much. To add to the celebration we will also be getting a special collection titled Fantastic Four: 65 Years of the World’s Greatest Comic Covers! This will collect at least 56 of the franchises best covers.

6) X-MEN KEPT TOO BUSY TO WORRY ABOUT BIG EVENTS

The X-Men event DNX does not appear to be following the traditional X-Men crossover event formula. Rather than consuming the entire franchise with DNX, Marvel has instead opted to only have Jed Mackay’s X-Men series be tied into the event. It certainly makes sense as the event writer that Mackay’s X-Men would play a big role in the storylines going on during DNX.

That said it does not appear we will see many tie-ins from the other X-Men titles. Each ongoing X-Men title will be beginning a new story arc in August. If that is indeed the case that means titles like Uncanny X-Men and X-Men United will not be able to tie into DNX until the final two issues at the earliest.

That does indicate that DNX is an event that isn’t aimed to be all encompassing like is normally the case for an X-Men event. This puts the aim for the impact that DNX will have is on the future for the X-Men, and most likely the Fantastic Four.

5) MARY JANE WATSON CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY

We are at the point in the Marvel Universe where we see a lot of characters get passed their 50th anniversary of being created. Mary Jane Watson will be joining that club as August 2026 will mark the 60th anniversary of MJ’s debut. To mark the occasion Marvel will be publishing a one-shot titled Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger in August. Like other celebration comics, this will have a collection of legendary creators telling stories with MJ as the lead.

In addition to getting a new one-shot, almost every Marvel comic book published in August will get a special Mary Jane Watson variant cover. That is saying a lot in how Marvel sees MJ. Because in that same month we have the Fantastic Four’s 65th anniversary, Amazing Spider-Man #1000, and Thor #800. Instead of commissioning variants for those characters Marvel went with variants for MJ.

4) MILES MORALES NEW SPIDER-MAN ONGOING

Marvel Comics August 2026 Solicitations: Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1

When Miles Morales most recent ongoing series ended at the to kick off 2026 there was a big question of when he would get a new series. Marvel slightly answered that by making Miles the lead of the Ultimate Impact: Reborn and Spider-Versity mini-series. Given the timing of that and how Armageddon was shaping up it felt like it we could go all year without a Miles Morales ongoing.

Now Marvel has answered that by announcing we will not in fact go all year without a new Miles’ led Spider-Man ongoing. As with the previous volume of the series we will be getting a new volume of Miles Morales: Spider-Man. To start on the positive note, it is good to see Miles’ getting an ongoing series. He has proven to be a character who can support a long running solo series. And it appears that this new Miles Morales: Spider-Man series will be giving the character a fresh start rather than being a continuation of the previous volume or mini-series.

That aside, I do wish Marvel would do better in naming Miles’ new ongoing. My wish would be for Marvel to commit to having Miles taking the Spectacular Spider-Man title. Amazing Spider-Man is something that’ll always be tied to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. But there is an opportunity to have Spectacular Spider-Man be what Miles claims as his own. It would be fitting for his character as Marvel is always positioning him as the fresh, young Spider-Man and Spectacular would be great for that emphasis.

3) WOLVERINE LEADING THE AVENGERS IN ARMAGEDDON

With the events of Armageddon intensifying the Avengers need to step up even more. Which means characters need to step into roles they aren’t normally in. That is where Wolverine seems to be stepping in as he will be the one to make the “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE” call in Armageddon #3.

Being the one to make the big rallying cry says a lot about where Wolverine could possibly be post-Armageddon. With Chip Zdarsky placing a focus on Wolverine in the lead into Armageddon it seems he has big future plans for the character. When all is said and done we could see Wolverine leading the Avengers when the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes get a new ongoing series. That would not be surprising if Zdarsky is the one writing the new Avengers series.

2) AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1000TH ISSUE CELEBRATION

Marvel Comics August 2026 Solicitations: Amazing Spider-Man #1000

Amazing Spider-Man will reach a rare milestone only the likes of Action Comics, Detective Comics, and One Piece, among others, have reached. That reaching the mark of Amazing Spider-Man #1000 in August. Though this does come with a bit of an asterisk since like everything at Marvel it will be the legacy 1000th issue of the series. Marvel even gives this landmark issue an asterisk by still having the number of the current volume of the series, Amazing Spider-Man #36, be the comics true number and #1000 is in parentheses as a legacy number.

Marvel’s odd way of honoring the milestone aside, this is a major occasion for the series. And like other celebration issues we will see Marvel bring in many different creators to tell stories in this oversized issue. Creators for this comic book include Frank Miller, Brian Bendis, J.M. Dematteis, and Dan Slott.

These creators will all tell back-up stories that’ll follow the main story being written by current series writer Joe Kelly. Knowing this is a big issue Kelly is using this as a chance to tell a major chapter in Peter Parker’s life. That includes a new villain that will likely be the overarching villain for the rest of Kelly’s run. Based on recent solicitations and the cover for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 it looks like this new villain may be tied to Peter Parker’s previously unknown family member.

1) MARVEL’S MIDNIGHT UNIVERSE RISES

Marvel’s decision to end the latest Ultimate Universe after just over two years was a genuine surprise. Like its predecessor, the line gave Marvel a meaningful jolt by driving strong sales and generating excitement across the catalog, even if some of that momentum faded once readers knew the end was coming.

Even so, the Ultimate Universe’s success made it hard to imagine Marvel abandoning the concept altogether. With the  Absolute Universe helping DC Comics build real creative and commercial momentum, Marvel had every reason to introduce another line that could serve as a major publishing pillar and sales driver.

That replacement has now arrived in the form of the new Midnight Universe, which begins in August with Midnight X-Men #1. The launch becomes even more significant with Jonathan Hickman returning to the X-Men, and his track record with both the mutants and Marvel’s broader line gives this debut the feel of a potential breakout hit. If Marvel executes the concept well, Midnight X-Men could quickly become one of the publisher’s biggest books.
