DC Comics May 2026 comic book solicitations are here! With it we see a similar narrative continuing for the company. DC Comics May 2026 solicitations show they are reliant on Batman, Superman, and the Absolute Universe. That is where they are banking on in 2026. What else could be squeezing in to get the attention? Find out with our ten big takeaways from DC Comics May 2026 comic book solicitations.

10) SONIC THE HEDGEHOG DC UNIVERSE RESIDENCY CONTINUES

The crossover with Sonic The Hedgehog appears to be a successful one for DC Comics. That is seen with how quickly it was revealed we are getting another crossover between the two universes. That comes in the form of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion starting in May.

Crossovers like this can and have been fun. The first crossover did a good job at getting into the cartoony aspect when these two universes meet. That is likely to continue in this latest crossover. Though like previous crossovers with Godzilla and Power Rangers, the question will be if the desire for more crossovers after DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion will still exist.

9) BRAINIAC QUEEN RETURNS IN JLU

DC Comics May 2026 Solicitations: Justice League Unlimited #19

For as quickly as she was made to be a big threat Brainiac Queen disappeared just as fast. After the Absolute Power event she was just gone. That said a lot for who Brainiac Queen turned out to be after all the time spent building her up in the Superman books. She was essentially a plot device that once she served her purpose Brainiac Queen disappeared. Especially considering we still see a large focus on Superman’s rogues gallery across his titles, this was even more noticeable.

Maybe that will change as Brainiac Queen is making her return in Justice League Unlimited #19. This reappearance will be a real test for Brainiac Queen’s longevity. Her return needs to have an impact. If not she will go down the same route as many other characters who have taken the gimmicks of others to be presented as a threat.

8) GREEN LANTERN COSMIC POLITICS

The Green Lantern Corps will continue to be busy after DC K.O. Now it looks like they will have to really deal with the fallout of the United Planets’ actions against them. This will really test Jessica Cruz leadership ability as she tries to create peace between the members of the former United Planets.

If that isn’t enough, we are also seeing more going on with how Oa is split up between the various Lantern Corps. That drama alone would be a lot for the Green Lantern Corps to deal with. But it appears there is still instability with the Emotional Spectrum that will make things worse. Which is not a good thing with what we’ve seen go on the rebirth of Parallax.

7) EMPEROR AQUAMAN REIGN TRULY BEGINS

Coming out of the DC K.O. event Arthur Curry’s stock is going to continue to be improved as he becomes Emperor Aquaman. While this new status quo was already made before it looks like May will be when we see the true impact of Emperor Aquaman.

That is seen with the solicitation of Emperor Aquaman #17 as Arthur Curry expands his reach across the DC Universe. The direction teased in the solicitation does indicate that the events of Emperor Aquaman will further drive home Earth as the center of the DCU. The lighthouse he is constructing appears to give his scope to be something like what we see with the Green Lantern Corps, just more Earth-based.

6) NEW TITANS DEFINING THEIR FUTURE

The New Titans didn’t get much of a chance to get used to their new status quo as they are faced with questions about their futures. That comes in the way of the upcoming New Titans storyline that has them dealing with possible nightmare futures for themselves. This will be a real test for how the veteran and newbie Titans will continue to work together in the future.

This storyline is even more important with DC Comics recently announcing a new Teen Titans series. Now that we have two series for the franchise New Titans needs to establish its new normal quickly. They can’t just continue to be the level below the Justice League like they’ve been since the JLU was founded. They need to find that fire that was had that made the Titans a contender for the DCU’s top superhero team just two years ago.

5) WHAT IS REIGN OF SUPERBOYS ENDGAME?

DC Comics May 2026 solicitations show that we will have yet another month without the mainline Superman appearing in his books. The Reign of Superboys storyline is going to continue dominating the Superman books. This puts into question what exactly DC Comics is planning for Superman later in the year.

Both Superman and Darkseid absence are made even more noticeable with the fact all other combatants in the King Omega Tournament are appearing in upcoming titles. That includes Lex Luthor being a big part of the Justice League Unlimited series.

Now this can be a good thing for characters like Jon Kent and the rest of the Superman Family. As much as DC Comics tried to make it look like they were investing in the franchise in the last two years they quickly went back to being Superman and Supergirl dependent. Maybe with Superman’s MIA status we will see the rest of the Superman Family prove they are able to carry stories and comic books like Action Comics.

4) BARBARA GORDON: BREAKOUT JOINS DC NEXT LEVEL

DC Next Level will not be kind to Barbara Gordon as she is being sent to jail by Vandal Savage. That is all thanks to Vandal Savage somehow finding a way to make it public knowledge that Barbara has been helping the Batman Family. Because of that Barbara is being sent to Vandal Savage’s new Supermax prison in Barabra Gordon: Breakout.

Out of all the DC Next Level comic books that have been announced thus far Barbara Gordon: Breakout sounds most like a mini- or maxi-series. Especially considering it is directly tied to the greater Batman franchise direction.

Now we have seen series like the Prison Break TV show work well with this concept. But that had 23 episodes over the course of nine months to tell its story. Comic books are different animals with one issue a month.

That puts a lot more pressure on Mariko Tamaki and Amancay Nahuelpan to keep up the moment for this concept monthly. Especially when the series is also reliant on everything else going on in the Batman franchise Unlike other DC Next Level titles, Barbara Gordon: Breakout is tied to an overarching storyline. What that all means for the series longevity will be interesting.

3) WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE BATMAN FAMILY

May’s Batman #9 and Poison Ivy #44 are firmly positioned as the comic books that will set the tone for the rest of 2026 for the Batman franchise. Both comic books will explore the impact of Poison Ivy becoming the new Mayor of Gotham City. There are already clear ramifications to this direction with Mayor Poison Ivy and GCPD Commissioner Vandal Savage creating a strong partnership.

This will not be good news for the Batman Family. Something we are already seeing as Barbara Gordon will be taken off the board after she is sent to a Supermax prison. With Tim Drake retiring and Nightwing busy with the chaotic state of Bludhaven, Bruce Wayne’s direct ally pool is shrinking.

With all this going on in Gotham City and Bludhaven it’s not surprising that we could see Bruce working closer with the allies he has left. Bringing in Damian Wayne, Stephanie Brown, and Duke Thomas to work with him is a logical next step for Batman. Especially with how we’ve seen Gotham City grow to have more corners, that is too much for one Dark Knight to cover. If this is the direction it could open a lane for the Batman Family to be used in more ways than just guest appearances.

2) ABSOLUTE CATWOMAN & GREEN ARROW GET THE SPOTLIGHT

The Absolute Universe will continue its expansion in 2026 as Absolute Catwoman and Absolute Green Arrow are getting their own comics. Though unlike the rest of the Absolute Universe line, both Absolute Catwoman and Absolute Green Arrow are six-issue mini-series. This is a smart play to expand the Absolute Universe without going out of control with ongoings that make fans feel stretched.

As for the comic books themselves, Absolute Catwoman can work to give us a different, anti-hero perspective on the Absolute Universe. Absolute Selina Kyle already showed she is a breakout character in her supporting role in the recent Absolute Batman story with Bane. Since she has been traveling the globe doing various activities, we can see a different angle of what we saw with the powers in the Absolute Universe.

That is also where Absolute Green Arrow specifically has greater interest. Last time we saw Absolute Green Arrow was when Absolute Hawkman brought his corpse to the Justice League in the Absolute Evil one-shot. The Absolute Green Arrow series appears to lean into this with it looking like Absolute Green Arrow has become a zombie controlled by the Absolute Justice League. That is at least the vibe we are given by his mask design. What his character design means makes this series feel as important as any Absolute Universe title.

1) ABSOLUTE ROBIN BEING TEASED

DC Comics May 2026 solicitations are not hiding what the lead comic book they want to grab all the headlines. Absolute Batman #20 teasing the arrival of the Dark Knight’s sidekick debuting is what leads the solicitations.

The “R” symbol that Absolute Batman is standing in front of is very reminiscent of Tim Drake’s Robin symbol. And we have already seen that like Absolute Barbara Gordon, Absolute Dick Grayson introduced as an adult who is currently a paramedic in Gotham City. So if the intention is to have Absolute Robin introduced it would make more sense for it to be a teenage Absolute Tim Drake. Which could be why in the main DC Universe we saw Tim Drake make his exit with his sudden retirement.

While Absolute Robin is the first thing that comes to mind the “R” symbol could be for someone else. That someone else could be for Absolute Red Hood. We know that Absolute Batman has a working relationship with Absolute Harley Quinn and her Red Hood gang. Recently it was shown that members of the Red Hood gang are not happy with Harley’s partnership with Batman. This could be a tease for a bigger Red Hood gang story coming in the summer.
