Top Takeaways From DC Comics September 2025 Solicitations

DC Comics September 2025 comic book solicitations are here! September is a big month for DC Comics. There is a wide variety of things going on that are shown in DC Comics September solicitations. That range includes new beginnings for the Batman franchise and teasing big storylines with Superman and the Justice League Unlimited at the center. With so much coming down the pipeline let’s look at the biggest takeaways from DC Comics September 2025 solicitations.

BATMAN NEW BEGINNING……..WITH OR WITHOUT H2SH

Recently it was quietly revealed that the final issues for Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s Batman: H2SH has been hit by major delays. The schedule for the final chapters for H2SH Batman #161 is currently scheduled for July 23rd release, Batman #162 is currently scheduled for September 17th and Batman #163 is scheduled for October 29th. With such massive delays DC Comics had the immediate question of waiting until Batman: H2SH to conclude before the new era for the franchise? Afterall, Loeb and Lee heavily teased the results of H2SH will have an impact on the future of all Batman related titles.

Now DC Comics have seemingly firmly answered this question as they will not wait for Loeb and Lee to wrap up Part 1 of their Batman: H2SH. That is seen in DC Comics September solicitations as Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez will begin their creative run with Batman #1 as scheduled. There is no waiting, not even for creators with the names of Loeb and Lee. Batman is too much of a money maker to let things not go as scheduled.

What does this mean for Batman: H2SH? Immediately, if H2SH first part was meant to lead into this new era for the Batman franchise then all the big developments like which Robin survives will be spoiled. In a bigger picture sense, this delay may have proven to DC Comics that Loeb and Lee latest epic shouldn’t matter to the main DC Universe. especially considering there is no announced date for when part two will happen. Loeb and Lee have proven they can’t be relied on to stay on schedule so like Batman: Three Jokers before it, Batman: H2SH may best exist in its own universe.

In terms of the new start for the main Batman series DC Comics picked great creators to follow-up on Chip Zdarsky, James Tynion, Scott Snyder, and others mantle. Matt Fraction has long proven himself to do very well when given major titles. And he has only grown to be an even better writer over the years. Having Jorge Jimenez, who has become a constant for the modern Batman comics, as the artist will certainly help with the transition from Zdarsky and others recent work on Batman.

RED HOOD LEADS NEW AGE OF ROBINS

One of the major spoilers for Batman: H2SH is the fact that both Jason Todd, Damian Wayne, and Dick Grayson are alive and moving forward with their own comics. Maybe it is a swerve to protect the ending of Batman #160, but DC Comics aren’t the best at hiding things. And likely the delay Loeb and Lee have faced with getting the conclusion of Batman: H2SH forced DC Comics to ignore whatever story developments with the Robins there is. The one option is if Tim Drake, currently unannounced for a H2SH appearance, is the Robin that ends up dying.

The other outcome that plays into the spoilers for Batman: H2SH is that Jason Todd survives and completely breaks away from Bruce Wayne’s influence. That is heavily teased to be the case in the new Red Hood ongoing series releasing in September. The solicitation for Red Hood #1 heavily indicates that Jason Todd will be striking out on his own, no longer seeing Gotham City as his home.

Interestingly enough, Jason Todd won’t be alone as Helena Bertinelli will be joining him on this adventure. It makes sense that the two black sheep of the Batman Family would end up working together. They’ll have a lot to relate to one another with how not just Batman but the other Bat-Family members view them. And when Red Hood is his best it was when paired with other heroes as we saw in the Outlaw comics.

Nightwing also appears to be moving on as he shifts to becoming a mentor to a new hero with meta-human powers. It has always made sense that the next step for Dick Grayson’s character is to take on mentoring his own sidekick. It was one of the reasons why the whole Titans Academy direction failed as the creative team didn’t want that type of storytelling to work. Hopefully Dan Watters has good plans to make this work for Nightwing and his new protégé so it can be a long-term thing.

ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE ONE YEAR IN

As shown in DC Comics September solicitations, the month will mark a full-year for the Absolute Universe. That is seen with both Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman reaching their twelfth issue. That alone is a big milestone for a new second concurrent universe that DC Comics has fully committed to.

DC Comics has never tried this approach of fully investing in having a completely separate universe. The closest they had to that was the Earth-2 comics but that was hit with many delays and irregular schedule. The fact that when showing a strong commitment to the Absolute Universe with some of their biggest creators they have had such great success is big. It shows to DC Comics that Elseworld mini-series is not the only path to tell cool stories in other universe.

On the story front we see that Absolute Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash are all facing major threats. There is a sense that the September issues for each series is where we will see some game changing stuff for each character. Whether its decisions made or moves taken, there will be something to talk about as we head into the start of the second year of the Absolute Universe.

SUPERMAN FINDS BOOSTER GOLD

Speaking of the Absolute Universe, the events in Joshua Williamson’s Superman will continue to dive deeper into what Darkseid is up. This is shown with Superman #30 revealing that the Man of Steel will finally find Booster Gold. If the cover for Superman #30 is any indication Booster Gold will not be in the best of shape.

The discovery of Booster Gold is being teased to be what will lead into the next chapter of the DC All In Saga. That is not surprising since Williamson has been such a big part of shaping what the last few years has been for DC Comics. And it all working with Williamson being able to present the Legion of Super-Heroes in such a major way will excite fans of the Legion.

This happening in the pages of Superman shows a commitment to making sure that the Man of Steel is the prominent character of the DC All In Saga. The timing certainly works out well with Superman leading the way for the new generation of the DC Universe mainstream appeal. Though that is not coming in a way that is forced. Williamson has put in time to make Superman the logical lead of the DC All In Saga. After Batman, Wonder Woman, and Nightwing had the chance to lead the more recent big events it is time for Superman to stake his claim as the big dog.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED BEGINS NEXT DC ALL IN CHAPTER

Superman isn’t the only series that will be helping to usher in the next chapter of the DC All In Saga. Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s Justice League Unlimited #11 will also be playing a role in what we will see take place in the DC All In Saga. Like Williamson, both Waid and Mora have been key creators for what direction DC Comics has taken for the last few years. Their Justice League Unlimited has been an example of the impact DC All In has had in changing the game for the heroes and villains.

The big overarching story that has been told in the Justice League Unlimited series has been with Inferno, which turned out to be part of the Legion of Doom’s plot. Part of that plot involved Parademon nests being found on Earth. The ramifications of this are now being felt in Count Vertigo’s neighboring kingdom of Vlatava.

What really catches the eye for Justice League Unlimited #11 solicitation is the mention of the Quantum Quorum’s tournament. Battle tournaments are always something that bring on the hype. Though it is unclear if that is what the Quantum Quorum will be about. It would certainly be something different if members of the Justice League have to get involved in a multiverse fighting tournament. Especially if the results lead to what is next with the DC All In Saga.

AQUAMAN IS BACK WITH HIS OWN JUSTICE LEAGUE BLUE

DC Comics September 2025 Solicitations: Aquaman #9

September will mark the return of Aquaman and Atlantis return to the main DC Universe. Aquaman has been through a lot in order to find his family, friends, and home somewhere in the Elseworld multiverse. That has lead to Aquaman getting out of his comfort zone which has given him an opportunity to grow.

Now it looks like he will be returning to the main DC Universe more powerful than ever before. Part of that is Aquaman returning with his own Justice League. Titled the Justice League Blue, it looks like the Aquaman ongoing will be more of a team book moving forward. Given that there are likely a lot of changes to the underwater world, the return of Atlantis will shake things up a lot. So there is plenty of room to have the Justice League Blue play an important part in shaping where the DC All In Saga goes.

More importantly, his family will be back with him and will have to adjust to being a father again. That will be more difficult than before with all the big things going on in the DC All In Saga. Which speaks to the current state of the DC Universe as we are seeing most of the major heroes family life. Aquaman joins Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Flash in having to balance being a superhero with the parent life. Whatever happens with the DC All In Saga, having most of the big seven being parents will be the lasting legacy of this current direction.

TOM KING CAN NEVER FORGET THE FAILED BAT-CAT WEDDING

DC Comics September 2025 Solicitations: Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman #4
Credit: DC Comics

Tom King’s Wonder Woman run is one that has yet to click for me. Even when keeping up with it through my DC Universe Infinite subscription the run has not done anything to get it back to being one to keep up with monthly. King’s writing style is just not working with how he is approaching having a narrator for most of the stories. It only works in stories like the recent Wonder Woman and Batman team-up that broke away from the main narrative.

It looks like King is going to attempt to tap into more of the Batman nostalgia with his Wonder Woman work by revisiting the Bat-Cat wedding. Though this isn’t being done in the main Wonder Woman series. Rather we will be seeing a visit to the failed Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle wedding in the pages of Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman. This will be done with Trinity visiting this moment and putting at risk of changing the continuity.

Now we should not expect that King will rewrite the Bat-Cat wedding, especially as he has no connection to the current happenings of the Batman franchise. Though picking this specific story to have Trinity revisit does show King is still bothered in a way with how the Bat-Cat wedding went down. It is an open secret of how editorial interfered with the latter half of King’s Batman run, starting with the Bat-Cat wedding. So it would not be surprising if King pokes fun at this fact as his own way to relieve some angst had around editorial choices.
