All right, let’s check out the comic books for this week. It appears that sanity is returning this week as we have a much smaller shipment of comic books headed to the Bunker. I was buried under the avalanche of the 18 comic books that I got last week and it took me until yesterday to finish them all. Luckily, I get a bit of a breather as it appears that only a mere 10 titles are headed to the Bunker today. This week’s shipment of comic books is slightly Marvel heavy.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Trinity #1 certainly piques my interest. Yeah, I know, I’m a glutton for punishment. I have battered wife syndrome and no matter how much pain DC inflicted on me with Countdown, I am going to sign up for their next weekly comic book in Trinity.

I just have to believe that DC has finished licking their wounds over Countdown and are determined to save face and show all the critics that 52 was not an aberration. The fact that Kurt Busiek is handling the writing chores for Trinity gives me hope. I am a fan of Busiek and think he is talented enough to pull off a quality weekly read.

Now, I still have some nagging reservations concerning centering a weekly title on Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. These three characters are massively exposed and between the three of them have a ridiculous amount of titles already. I don’t see where we need yet another one.

I liked the fact that 52 and Countdown focused on B-list and C-list characters. It gave DC the opportunity to grow and flesh out these characters into bigger players in the DCU. I simply feel that if DC is determined to continue doing a weekly title then they should use it as a vehicle to promote some of their lower-tier characters.

The DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Justice Society of America #16. Johns is white hot on this title as the JSA is easily one of DC’s stronger reads. And what is great is that I did not have to wait that long for this issue since the last issue of the JSA just came out two weeks ago.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Nightwing #145. Now, this isn’t a terrible title, it is just the weakest of the comic books headed our way from DC this week. Despite Didio’s claims that Dick Grayson is going to assume a central position in the DCU, this character continues to languish in mediocrity. DC just doesn’t seem to know what to do with Dick’s character.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? The House of Ideas is unleashing one incredibly strong selection of titles this week. I am excited about the great assortment of Marvel comic books for this week.

Avengers/Invaders #2 is sure to be a well crafted issue. It appears that we get the inevitable showdown between Iron Man and Captain America in this issue. I have complete faith in Krueger to handle both characters with class and to not butcher Tony’s character like Bendis and JMS have since Civil War.

I am looking forward to Invincible Iron Man #2. No, the story is not all that original, but the artwork is fantastic and I am such a huge Iron Man fan that even an average story will entertain me. Let the summer of Iron Man roll on.

Nova #14 should be another quality read. DnA continue to fly under the radar with this title. Nova has been incredibly consistent and I am looking forward to the showdown between the Silver Surfer and Nova.

Ultimate Origins #1 represents Marvel’s last ditch effort to resurrect its moribund Ultimate Universe titles. At this point, the only Ultimate title that I find worth reading is Ultimate Spider-Man. Man, how incredible has Bendis’ run on that title been?

At any rate, I am looking forward to Ultimate Origins #1 in order to see how Marvel is going to reveal the various conspiracies and mysteries of the Ultimate Universe. I don’t expect this title to be a complex or deep read, but I have faith in Bendis to deliver a fun and entertaining adventure story.

However, I had to go with Secret Invasion #3 as the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to this week. We are supposed to get Nick Fury’s dramatic appearance in this issue. It has been a long time since old one-eye has shown himself publicly in the 616 Universe. It should be interesting to see what happens.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Amazing Spider-Man #561. I have bee summarily unimpressed with this title since the Mephisto retcon and I see no reason to believe that this issue will get me to change my opinion.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.
