It’s time for to decide the Best Comic Book Series of 2025! 2025 was an incredible year in comic books. There were a lot of fantastic comic book series that released during 2025. There was genuinely something from every genre from every comic book publisher. Even if some of that stuff did include things that didn’t live up to the hype there are way to many great comic books to dwell on what didn’t work. Especially with how strong of a year 2025 was. That made trying to come up with five comic books that can be said to be my favorite tough. But finally after much thought here are the five Best Comic Book Series of 2025.
5) TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Writers: Jason Aaron and Gene Luen Yang
Artists: Juan Ferreyra and Freddie E. Williams II
Colorist: Andrew Dalhouse
Issues Released: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 – #13
Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra kicked off 2025 continuing their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles run. The second half of their twelve-issue run was even stronger than the first half. That is saying a lot with the foundation that was set by the previous year’s issue was shown to be a strong one.
It all goes to the reality created by Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo now becoming public figures. That led each of them to lead different lives but ultimately come back together. And when they did there were those in power that were ready to take advantage of them becoming publically known. As we see, that meant the Hamato Clan fighting for their lives as they try to also find a new chemistry as a family.
The twist of how Donatello saw Splinter’s spirit living inside the corpse of a dead rat and how his brothers reacted created unexpected character arcs for the four Turtles. Adding in how easy it was to hate the government officials coming after the Turtles was well handled. It made you back the Turtles and find a way to overcome the odds. The twist that everything happening was done by Karai and the Foot Clan manipulating things from the shadows helped this rebuild of the franchise.
The overall strong run by Aaron and Ferreyra was driven home by how they ended things. They not only created a satisfying conclusion to their creative run but also left plenty of potential for Gene Luen Yang and Freddie Williams to keep the momentum going.
4) ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN

Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artists: Marco Checchetto and David Messina
Colorists: Matt Wilson and Erick Arciniega
Issues Released: Ultimate Spider-Man #13 – #23
Ultimate Spider-Man had possibly the hottest start to 2025 of any comic book. Kicking things off with Ultimate Peter Parker and Harry Osborn fighting for their lives in the Savage Lands was a tone setter. It was a tone that was carried into the rest of 2025 as the whole Peter trying to maintain his Spider-Man secret was the least of his concern. That all goes back to what starts with Ultimate Spider-Man #13.
From that issue going forward we see Peter, MJ, and their family having to make choices for their own safety. It is something we didn’t necessarily see from other Ultimate Universe titles. By going with this direction it helped to show how serious of a threat the Maker’s Council and Kingpin’s Sinister Six are.
This sense of danger in Ultimate Spider-Man was further elevated by the revelation of Ultimate Gwen Stacy being part of a Illuminati-like group that collectively played Ultimate Mysterio. That revelation created an even greater sense of unknown for the direction of the series.
And it all centering around characters trying to protect their respective families or fortune made you want to come back for more every month. It all leads to the maximum amount of hype for how Jonathan Hickman, Marco Checchetto, and David Messina plan to conclude this Ultimate Spider-Man series in early 2026.
3) ZATANNA

Writer & Artist: Jamal Campbell
Issues Released: Zatanna #1 – #6
When talking about the best looking comic book that came out in 2025 the Zatanna mini-series by Jamal Campbell is in contention. Not only is it in contention but it is at the top of the list. It is that beautiful of a comic book as every issue is packed with stunning artwork from Jamal Campbell.
The stunning artwork by Campbell is what made this Zatanna mini-series special. There was a sense of confidence in the Campbell’s ability to tell the story through his artwork. It’s a confidence that very few comics can match. And as the writer of this mini-series as well Campbell knew exactly when the reader should experience the story through all the detail in the artwork.
This strength in his artwork made Campbell’s exploration of Zatanna’s character even more fascinating. Because she was truly put through the ringer as she battled an incredibly powerful magical threat. The threat pushed Zatanna’s character, and not just as a powerful magician. Having to go through so many different realities challenged Zatanna to deal with how she handles her personal relationships. It all made the end result of this mini-series be one that is a must-read.
2) TRANSFORMERS

Writers: Daniel Warren Johnson and Robert Kirkman
Artistss: Jorge Corona, Ludo Lullabi, and Dan Mora
Colorists: Mike Spicer and Adriano Lucas
Issues Released: Transformers #16 – #27
Daniel Warren Johnson and Jorge Corona’s time on Transformers will go down as a legendary creative run. Every single issue you were on the edge of your seat wondering who would survive the latest Autobot vs Decepticon fight. There was a constant sense of danger with every blow and decision that was being made by both rivaling side.
Things escalated to another level in 2025 as Megatron made his return. Not only did he return but he took over and made his leadership of the Decepticons known by all. The forceful actions was a reminder that the Decepticons are at their most dangerous when Megatron is leading them. That is saying a lot given how the Decepticons in the Energon Universe pushed the Autobots beyond their limits.
This was a real test for Optimus Prime and his leadership of the Autobots. He was forced to make decisions that not every Autobot like but were for the best of their future and that of their new home on Earth. By making sure every decision was important Johnson and Corona created even more intensity to the latest chapter of the Autobots and Decepticons war.
Johnson and Corona concluded their run on an absolute high with an amazing final issue. That final issue not only brought their run to a close but created an opening that Robert Kirkman and Dan Mora can seamlessly keep up the momentum of this Energon Universe series.
1) ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN

Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artists: Hayden Sherman, Dustin Nguyen, Mattia De Iulius, and Matias Bergara
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Issues Released: Absolute Wonder Woman #4 – #15
Absolute Wonder Woman was just on another level. Even with how strong of a year 2025 was for the comic book industry Absolute Wonder Woman stood at the top. The Absolute Universe gave DC Comics an opportunity to give new takes on their iconic character roster. Everything about Absolute Wonder Woman spoke to the true potential of a fresh start has.
Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, and their other collaborators took the foundation started in 2024 and went to another level with Absolute Wonder Woman. Making Diana Prince the last of the Amazons who was raised in Hell by Circe and trained to be an expert magic user was just cool. It gave way for a different take on Diana as her fighting style was completely different. Sherman’s artwork create so many dynamic action sequences. It is a style that Dustin Nguyen, Mattia De Iulius, and Matias Bergara stepped up to match in energy.
But even with this difference the core of what makes the character special is still there. That is shown by how Diana can connect with everyone from supporting cast members, antagonists, and even Absolute Batman. Even when Diana is presented as a larger-than-life superhero Thompson makes sure to ground the character through these interactions. They help to open the way we explore Greek mythology and magic in the Absolute Universe in fascinating ways.
Absolute Wonder Woman all speaks to the unlimited potential comic books as a medium has. There is this constant feeling that anything can and will happen here. There is no limitation to the story that continues to be told in this series. Its why comic books are great.
