Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Era Ending Announced By BOOM! Studios

We’ve seen how endgame-level recent issues of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has been during the Darkest Hour event. Now BOOM! Studios has announced the final issue of not only the currently running Darkest Hour event but also the eight-year comic book run of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The finale will be happening in the one-shot titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1.

What is not clear is if this is the end of BOOM! Studios partnership with Hasbro to publish Power Rangers comic books. This week Hasbro published a press release to announce that Playmates Toys acquired the license to produce and distribute Power Rangers toys starting in 2025. While Playmates Toys license is for “action figures, blasters, plush, role play, vehicles and accessories” we don’t know what this means for the series that just had it’s final season wrapped up on Netflix last year.

BOOM! Studios’ press release only states that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1 is the end of this eight-year run. Given that the Power Rangers spans we’ll beyond the iconic Mighty Morphin era we could see, all speculation, another team get the comic book treatment. To writer Melissa Flores and artist Simona Di Gianfelice, along with their other creative collaborators, credit they have made Darkest Hour come across as the endgame for this eight-year era of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise.

In speaking about the finale in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1 Flores said the following:

“After nearly two years, the Darkest Hour comes to a close. This event has been one of the biggest tasks of my career, but I’ve enjoyed every single, heart-wrenching minute. Although I put our poor Rangers through the ringer, I hope the ending is as satisfying for the reader as it was for me to write it!”

Adding to this sentiment Gianfelice also had the following to say about their time on Power Rangers:

“I’m really excited to tell this incredible adventure together with Melissa. So far she has kept us in suspense and now she’s ready to surprise us again! Get ready to dive into this final chapter of Darkest Hour! GO GO!”
