REVIEW

Ryan Parrott, Vicenzo Federici, and Jodi Nishijima nail the ending of their epic. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #5 has everything fans could want. They do this by making sure they keep in mind that there has to be a payoff to what has happened in the previous four issues. That payoff leads to a comic book filled with moments that you can’t help but be excited about what you’re experiencing.

Big Explosive Battles

There are very few moments in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #5 where you can slow down to process what is going on. Parrott, Federici, and Nishijima keep things moving at such a fast pace that you just keep going with reading the issue to see how much bigger things get. The sense of momentum makes the time go by quickly that you really have to read this a few times to just take in all the great stuff going on.

That is a credit to the excitement that is created with the multiple battles that go on in this issue. There is a sense that every character from the Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, Lord Zedd, and Shredder sides that get a moment or two. It is just so much fun.

You are so in the moment that when something you did not expect to happen it hits like a real surprise. Those are moments as a fan you can’t help but nerd out about.

Splinter & Zordon Step Up Big

Every character in this story has some sort of stand out moment. Whether its individual or team moments. But there are no bigger standouts in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #5 than Splinter and Zordon.

The two mentors of the Power Rangers and TMNT teaming to take on Lord Zedd and Shredder is a blast to see. Especially with how Parrott integrates elements from both franchises in how the fight plays out. The choreography is on point to show the skills and power of everyone involved in the fight

Unexpected Surprises Continue

There are multiple surprises in this finale that are fanservice in the best way possible. There is one that certain fans will absolutely love. It is something that was the last thing you could think would take place in this crossover. But as soon as you see it you are left wondering why it took so long. There is a sense of completion of what these Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers are by having this surprise happen.

Artwork Delivers Big Event Feel

Vicenzo Federici and Jodi Nishijima deliver on how epic this finale needed to be. With all the action that we get in this finale is balanced out very well. We get the big mecha-kaiju battle going on throughout the city. Then there is the fights going on inside a building that is smaller but just as intense.

What makes it all work so well is the timing of the choreography. Even with everything going on you never feel taken out because of the transitions between all the fights. That could’ve been an easy thing to see happen given the number of characters involved. But you never feel like any of the characters get lost in the action. You are very aware of where everyone is at. This helps the choreography have a natural flow from page to page as we go from multiple planes of action.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #5 is an epic finale to the third crossover between the two franchises. This finale is filled with a ton of fanservice that readers will love. But even with all the fanservice the story doesn’t lose itself in just being about that. All the fanservice works into the payoff we get with the narrative we’ve had going on with not just the Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles but also Lord Zedd and Shredder’s forces. Everything wraps up in a way that fans will be left satisfied and still hoping we get more crossovers between the two franchises.
