All right, we have a nice shipment of 18 titles headed to the Bunker today. And, no, your eyes are not deceiving you. I do indeed have three titles that are not DC or Marvel comic books on my list for this week. I am indeed trying to make good on my New Year’s resolution and branch out from the DC and Marvel titles and sample some of the titles from the other publishers. Invincible and been recommended to me by several people. As has Noble Causes. And just recently, Stephen from Comic Book Weekness recommended that I give Dynamo 5 a try.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Eh, this is a pretty ordinary week for DC. I guess I will have to go with Outsider #15. If Peter Tomasi writes it then I am going to read it. Outsiders has been a total mess since it got restarted. In just fifteen issues, this title has already had a name change. This title had a writer switch from Bedard to Dixon before the first issue was released. Tomasi is already the third (fourth if you include Bedard) writer to tackle this young title.

The Outsiders is a title that is in desperate need for stability and quality writing. And Tomasi is just the man for that job. Tomasi resurrected the moribund Nightwing title so he has earned by faith and trust that he can do the same with the Outsiders.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Justice League of America #30. It has been a long time since I found this title to be a quality read. It might be time for a change in the creative team on this title.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? That is a tough choice. We have plenty of great titles headed our way from the House of Ideas. X-Men: Kingbreaker #3 is sure to be a good read. This has been an enjoyable mini-series that has done its job of getting the reader excited about the upcoming War of Kings event.

Guardians of the Galaxy #10 is sure to be an exciting issue. DnA have this title firing on all cylinders as we head to War of Kings. DnA have made this title such a consistent read and I expect that to continue with this issue.

I am interested in reading Dark Avengers #2. Bendis has failed to impress me with his work on New Avengers, so I was pleasantly surprised that Dark Avengers #1 turned out to be such a good read. I am curious to see if Bendis can keep his focus and can continue to deliver a quality team title with Dark Avengers or if he will lapse into the same defects and weaknesses that have plagued New Avengers.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is X-Factor #40. David delivered an absolute gem with the last issue. The shocking ending of [EDIT: Hi there.  This is Peter David.  I hacked into The Revolution in order to remove this reference to the ending to X-Factor #39.  I realize that it has been a month, but honestly, I do not expect to see anyone talking about the ending of X-Factor #39 until the trade paperback has been released.] I cannot wait to see what David has in store for us as a follow up to that stunning ending.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Uncanny X-Men #506. This is the weakest link in an otherwise strong selection of comic books headed our way from Marvel. This title has been such a pedestrian read. However, there is hope. The Uncanny X-Men Annual #2 was actually not that bad. Maybe Fraction can continue to work on his craft and deliver a better read with Uncanny X-Men #506 than what we have gotten up to this point.

  1. Hey Rokk!

You forgot Supergirl! Did you drop the title from your reading list? I know you hated it before, but I thought after Sterling took over you liked it.

    It was a great issue!

  2. Dude!!!!! Too Soon!

Peter David knows where you live!

I know it was a month ago now, BUT, even people reviewing issue #40 are not giving away the big ‘baby’ moment from the previous issue. I think you should have waited a month or two yet before revealing anything.

I can’t recommend X-Factor enough to anyone who has not yet given it a go yet.
