I am all about The Watchmen movie this week. I cannot wait to see it. I broke open my Absolute Edition of The Watchmen and began re-reading the story. It had been 15 years since I last read The Watchmen. And, damn if this story isn’t every bit as good as it was when it first came out. I won’t go on and on about The Watchmen, because anything I have to say has already been said before and in a much better fashion. Suffice it to say, Alan Moore is my all-time favorite writer.

As a Literature major, I have to admit that much of the time I do not give comic book writers the respect that I do to novelists, poets and playwrights. However, Alan Moore has always been the exception. He has earned my absolute respect as a writer.

Do I think that The Watchmen movie is going to be as good as the comic book? No. But, I am also the type of person who almost always finds the comic book or novel to be superior to its cinematic counter-part. I am just excited that a movie is being made of The Watchmen at all. I honestly never thought that this day would come. To whet your appetite, here is a nice interview with Dave Gibbons about The Watchmen movie.

All right, let’s take a look at the new comic books for this week. We are only getting 9 comic books. But, even though it is a small week there are still plenty of gems in store for us.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? That would be Superman: World of New Krypton #1. I enjoyed the lead-in to this event. I expect this to be a good read.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Trinity #40. Hopefully, DC’s next weekly title we be a more compelling read that what we have gotten with Trinity.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I am looking forward to Secret Warriors #2. I thought Hickman and Bendis did a good job with the debut issue of this title. I interested to see where they go with the reveal that Hydra has been in control of SHIELD all along.

I am certainly excited to read Daredevil #116, This issue kicks off the “Return of the King” story arc as Kingpin makes his dramatic return. We all knew that at some point Brubaker was going to work the Kingpin back into Daredevil. This issue should be a great read.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is War of Kings #1. Personally, I have been enjoying DnA’s work with Marvel’s cosmic characters more than any other aspect of the 616 universe. I fully expect War of Kings #1 to deliver a highly entertaining and epic big event story. Basically, something that Secret Invasion failed to do.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? None. This is a great array of comic books headed from the House of Ideas this week.

  1. I watched the Watchmen tonight. The perks of living in Argentina, you know.

I really liked it, and though I tried not to make comparisons with the comic (or graphic novel, if it suits you better), but it surprised me by remaining certainly faithful.

I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone, so that’s as far as I’ll go. I would like to know La Revolución’s opinion on the film, as if you were reviewing one of your weekly comics.

Oh, and for the sake of argument, I thought of another suggestion for the site: since we already get your opinions in the Good, Bad and Overall sections of the reviews, you could maybe skip the personal annotations in the synopsis, so that everyone gets a subjective AND an objective take on the comic.

Well, that’s my dos centavos right there.

Have a blast watching the Watchmen!
