This week we’ll be covering Absolute Batman #16, Absolute Wonder Woman #16, G.I. JOE #18, Iron Man #1, Power Rangers Prime #14, Sorcerer Supreme #2, and Void Rivals #26. Find out how these comic books turned out with the latest comic book reviews round-up below.
ABSOLUTE BATMAN #16
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Nick Dragotta
Colorist: Frank Martin
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Keeping up the momentum the first team-up, Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta tap into the amazing chemistry Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman have. They do so by using the current status quo of Bruce Wayne’s relationship with his inner circle to initiate this second team-up. Bruce going to Diana for help in finding a cure for Waylon Jones’ Killer Croc transformation shows the lengths he is willing to go for his friends. Going through literal hell also opens up things up to explore how Bruce’s emotions around those he is connected to are such drivers for his character motivation. It gives Absolute Batman #16 a strong argument for the best single issue of this series thus far.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #16
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Becca Carey
Their such incredible beauty in the way Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman continue to naturally weave a character driven narrative in Absolute Wonder Woman. This latest issue show why with how they continue to create a story that engages the reader to be immersed in Diana of the Wild Isle’s past and present. Everything is so seamless with how it cuts between the two as we learn more about Diana’s training. That leads into a strong debut of Absolute Zatanna and the Suicide Squad. It gets off this “Season of the Witch” arc off on a fantastic start.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
G.I. JOE #18
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Marco Fodera
Colorist: Lee Loughridge
Letterer: Rus Wooton
G.I. JOE #18 is an excellent example of how to introduce a character. Roadblock’s introduction into the Energon Universe emphasized what makes the character great. Making him a defender of the community he lives in does a lot to help separate himself from how other JOEs have been presented. He is a much needed character in the cast and hopefully is a permanent presence in this series in the near future. Click here to read the full review.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
IRON MAN #1
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Carmen Carnero
Colorist: Nolan Woodard
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Everything about Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero’s Iron Man #1 comes across as a true fresh start. They don’t do this by simply hitting the reset point on Tony Stark and the world around him. Instead they simply embrace the character’s history, quirks and all, and focusing on having Tony move forward. It comes across as refreshing take that isn’t simply trying to replicate past success or what made him the main character in the MCU. They are aiming to tell a new fresh story with Iron Man, starting by establishing Madame Masque as a credible big bad. It all succeeds in accomplishing the goal of this being the entry point to Iron Man that Marvel has been looking for a long time.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
POWER RANGERS PRIME #14
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Melissa Flores
Artist: Federico Sorressa
Colorist: Joana Lafuente
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Power Rangers Prime #14 keeps up the momentum for this series by digging further into the franchise mythology. How Melissa Flores and Federico Sorressa dig into the bag of the Power Rangers franchise just puts a smile on my face. Especially when one of the big things referenced is Power Rangers Zeo. The way that is integrated with the things going on with Lauren Shiba’s family and the Prime Rangers chemistry building makes this the strongest the series has been thus far.
Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10
SORCERER SUPREME #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Bernard Chang
Colorist: Ruth Redmond
Letterer: Joe Sabino
Sorcerer Supreme #2 does a phenomenal job at driving home Agatha Harkness as Wanda Maximoff’s greatest villain. That is certainly something that was needed as Scarlet Witch is elevated to an even higher level as a solo hero. This entire comic book puts over how Agatha is an immensely powerful sorceress. Even when it seems like Scarlet Witch wins Agatha does something to turn the tables. It builds a strong investment in not just this story arc but also the long-term future of this series.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
VOID RIVALS #26
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Andrei Bressan
Colorist: Patricio Delpeche
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Void Rivals #26 takes the way Quintesson War started in the previous issue and elevates it to come across as a big event. That happens as soon as you open this issue and that scale is carried over thanks to the actions taken by the Quintesson. How their actions impact the entire cast of this series builds a strong investment in what all of this will mean for the Energon Universe. Click here to read the full review.
