Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Absolute Superman #16ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #16

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jason Aaron

Artist: Juan Ferreyra

Letterer: Becca Carey

Absolute Superman #16 is a strong world building chapter for this series. There are so many details that are packed in this comic book that goes beyond the start of Absolute Superman vs Hawkman. It’s not just from the dialogue that Jason Aaron writes. Juan Ferreyra’s artwork provides some insight on things to come that build up the Absolute Universe’s mythology. That in turn helps give more weight to how Superman goes about handling his first meeting with Hawkman. How that could connect to things going on with the Peacemakers, Brainiac, and Lex Luthor will be very interesting to see play out.

Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Amazing Spider-Man #21AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #21

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joe Kelly

Artists: John Romita Jr. and Todd Nauck

Inkers: Scott Hanna and Todd Nauck

Colorists: Marcio Menyz, Marte Gracia, and Erick Arciniega

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

The whole direction with Norman Osborn stepping up to be a temporary Spider-Man has bee impacted by its forced nature. It’s not the creative team’s fault as this is something Spider-Ma editorial has been trying for several years now. And as we see with Amazing Spider-Man #21 there are elements that are interesting on a character depth level. But a lot of the connection is lost due to just not believing Norman as someone wearing the Spider-Man costume after all he’s done. That said, he is certainly helped by Joe Kelly and the team doing a great job writing Hobgoblin as a villain you love to hate. Everything about Hobgoblin is classic comic book supervillain and that works here with how his defeat goes down.

Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Batman #6BATMAN #6

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Matt Fraction

Artist: Jorge Jimenez

Colorist: Tomeu Morey

Letterers: Clayton Cowles and Jorge Jimenez

Batman #6 has a lot of game changing decisions made by characters. They are all things that have potential for what can happen in the future. That is all slightly derailed by the final few pages that show us that all roads seemingly lead to yet another Joker story. Now, Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez have built up cache that they know how to handle Bruce Wayne and others. Hopefully they do something that leads to genuine character development and not just bury everything to tell another “Joker epic.”

Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Storm: Earth's Mightiest Mutant #1STORM: EARTH’S MIGHTIEST MUTANT #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Murewa Ayodele

Artist: Federica Mancin

Colorist: Java Tartaglia

Letterer: Travis Lanham

Murewa Ayodele does not miss a beat by continuing his epic with Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant #1. The opening with Ororo Munroe meeting with Susanoo sets the tone right away we will continue to deal with big things. Digging into various mythologies does a lot to show there is much more to come. Which we see with the bigger mystery of how Storm getting involved with different entities is impacting things on Earth. Then there’s Federica Mancin’s artwork that nails the big event feel that Ayodele goes for this story. It all works to make this a must-read continuation of the epic being told around Storm.

Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Ultimate Endgame #2ULTIMATE ENDGAMEN #2

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Deniz Camp

Artist: Terry & Rachel Dodson and Jonas Sharf

Colorist: Terry Dodson and Edgar Delgado

Letterer: Cory Petit

Ultimate Endgame #2 is a massive dropping of a ball. Deniz Camp and co. craft a narrative that felt like we were wasting time rather than moving things forward. From the writing to the artwork, that happens at every level of this story. It gets to the point where it feels like things are being held back for tie-ins to this event. That results in a comic book that fails to live up to its title that includes the word Endgame in it. Click here to read the full review.

Overall Rating: 3.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Ultimate Wolverine #14ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #14

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Chris Condon

Artist: Alessandro Cappuccio

Colorist: Bryan Valenza

Letterer: Cory Petit

Ultimate Wolverine #14 maximizes the environment created by the events of Ultimate Endgame without losing itself as a tie-in. The events currently going on in the Ultimate Universe act as a way to elevate the overarching narrative of this series to have bigger importance. Specifically, when it comes to Ultimate Wolverine setting his sights on  Magik. This leads well to Logan and Jean Grey organically bonding and an intense fight with Ultimate Lady Deathstrike. How that builds anticipation for how Ultimate Wolverine will deal with Magik has a lot of momentum behind it now.

Comic Book Reviews 2/4/26: Uncanny X-Men #23UNCANNY X-MEN #23

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Gail Simone

Artist: David Marquez

Colorist: Matthew Wilson

Letterer: Clayton Cowles

Gail Simone and David Marquez continue to keep us guessing with Uncanny X-Men #23. Going with a monster direction for this latest story arc created an immediate sense of unpredictability. Whether it is how the Uncanny X-Men deal with what’s going on with Gambit or the new kids finding their voices as they deal with difficult situations, everything grabs your interest. Adding in some horror elements with the tone of the story involving several monsters in the Marvel Universe help elevate the story as something new for the X-Men.
