April 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

It is time to check out the April 2024 single-issue comic book sales rankings. Things are getting murkier in terms of actual unit numbers. So, we will have to settle with going to ICv2 for their Top 200 sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we have to work with what we get.

Keep in mind, that the Top 200 single-issue comic sales charts are based on orders tracked by the ComicHub system at local comic book shops selling American comics. This includes over 3,000 stores selling American comics worldwide. As always, it is important to remember that these rankings are also not actual sales. These rankings only represent the number of units ordered by local comic shops.

You can go over to ICv2 and check out the Top 50 for April 2024 for free or opt for a pro membership (It is well worth the money) and get the Top 200 for April 2024 and then come back here for a detailed analysis of the April 2024 sales rankings!

April 2024 Top 200 Single-Issue Comic Rankings

The Battle for the Top 10

Marvel Comics placed nine comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the six comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 10 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in April 2022.

DC Comics placed zero comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the one comic that DC Comics had in the Top 10 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had two comics in the Top 10 in April 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had two comics in the Top 10 in April 2022.

To be fair, if part of Batman #146’s sales numbers were not put incorrectly into the March 2024 sales chart then Batman #146 would surely have been a Top 10 comic in April 2024. At any rate, one comic in the Top 10 continues DC Comics’ disastrous performance in this area over the past few years.

Image Comics placed one comic in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were flat as Image Comics also had one comic in the Top 10 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 10 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in April 2022.

Naturally, Image Comics’ one Top 10 title was from the Hasbro franchise.

The Battle for the Top 25 Comic Book Sales

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 11-25 range typically sell in the 65,000 to 50,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed seventeen comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were flat as Marvel Comics also had seventeen comics in the Top 25 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Marvel Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 25 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fourteen comics in the Top 25 in April 2022.

As usual, Marvel Comics’ Top 25 success was powered by the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises. Those two franchises accounted for twelve of the seventeen comics.

DC Comics placed three comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were down from the two comics that DC Comics had in the Top 25 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had six comics in the Top 25 in April 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had nine comics in the Top 25 in April 2022.

Two of DC Comics’ three Top 25 comics were from the Superman franchise. One of DC Comics’ three Top 25 comics were from the Batman franchise. Action Comics #1064 was DC Comics’ highest ranked title at the number 21 spot. What an embarrassment for DC Comics. Still, having said that, had Batman #146 not had one week of sales improperly included in the March 2024 sales chart then it would have been the highest ranked title for DC Comics.

The downward trend in sales in the Top 25 since 2022 points to the clear failure of the Dawn of DC initiative. DC Comics is in a tough spot as they try and figure out how to resuscitate their moribund business.

Image Comics placed three comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were down from the four comics that Image Comics had in the Top 25 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had two comics in the Top 25 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 25 in April 2022.

Two of the three comics were from the Hasbro franchise. One of the three comics was from the Universal Monsters franchise. Licensed properties continue to power Image Comics’ Top 25 sales success compared to two years ago.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 25. Yes. Dynamite Entertainment came within one comic of tying DC Comics in the Top 25. Just let that roll around in your head for a while. No disrespect to Dynamite, but I never thought I would see a day where DC Comics is struggling to beat Dynamite Entertainment in the Top 25.

Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 25 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 25 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 25 in April 2022.

Both of Dynamite Entertainment’s Top 25 comics were from old licensed properties.

Space Ghost #1 took the number 13 spot. Space Ghost #1 actially released on May 1, 2024. So, once again, we see some bleed through of comics released in the beginning of one month appearing in the sales charts from the prior month.

At any rate, that is a phenomenal debut number and far more than I anticipated. As a longtime fan of all the Hana-Barbara Sci-Fi properties like Space Ghost and The Humanoids, I am thrilled to see this title have such an impressive debut. Of course, it should be noted that Space Ghost #1 had ten open order covers, thirteen incentive covers, and fifteen retailer exclusive covers. Good lord! That is an eye-watering number of variant covers that would even make Marvel Comics blush!

ThunderCats #3 took the number 22 spot. I did not anticipate this new ThunderCats title being able to remain in the Top 25 by its third issue. This is a pleasant surprise. Again, it must be noted that ThunderCats #3 had eleven open order covers, eighteen incentive order covers, and five retailer exclusive covers. That is just insane.

In general, it is fascinating to watch fans flock to these old properties like Space Ghost, ThunderCats, GI Joe, Transformers, and Conan.

The Battle for the Top 50 Comic Book Sales

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 26-50 range typically sell in the 49,000 to 30,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed thirty-one comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the thirty-five comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had thirty-three comics in the Top 50 in April 2023. However, numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had twenty-nine comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Daredevil #8 took the number 36 spot ticked up from the number 46 spot to the number 36 spot. The good news is that Daredevil is still a consistent Top 50 seller. The bad news is that this title used to be a solid Top 25 seller every month prior to Ahmed Saladin taking over the franchise.

Fantastic Four #19 climbed from the number 54 spot to the number 42 spot. It is nice to see this title back in the Top 50. We shall see if the Fantastic Four can remain in the Top 50 going forward.

Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #2 fell from the number 19 spot to the number 49 spot. This indicates that this four-issue mini-series is going to conclude well outside of the Top 50.

DC Comics placed nine comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the eight comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in March 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had eleven comics in the Top 50 in April 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had thirteen comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

This has to be discouraging for DC Comics as Dawn of DC has totally failed. Two years ago, we all were concerned over DC Comics’ terrible sales numbers. Little did we know that it would actually get worse.

Image Comics placed six comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the five comics that Image Comics had in the Top 50 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had three comics in the Top 50 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Three of the six comics were from the Hasbro franchise. One was from the Universal Monsters franchise. Only two of the six comics were original Image Comics’ titles. One of those two comics was from the Spawn franchise.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 50 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 50 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

BOOM! Studios had one comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 50 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as BOOM! Studios had zero comics in the Top 50 in April 2023. However, numbers were down from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had three comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were flat as IDW Publishing also had one comic in the Top 50 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 50 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

As usual, the one IDW Publishing comic in the Top 50 was from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. IDW Publishing would be dead in the water without that license.

The Battle for the Top 75 Comic Book Sales

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 51-75 range typically sell in the 29,000 to 25,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed forty-nine comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the forty-eight comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Marvel Comics had forty-nine comics in the Top 75 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had forty-two comics in the Top 75 in April 2022.

DC Comics placed twelve comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down from the sixteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as DC Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 75 in April 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had twenty-one comics in the Top 75 in April 2022.

These numbers continue to highlight the total failure of the Dawn of DC initiative as sales are down from a year and two years ago. At this point, everything looks bleak for DC Comics. Poor DC Comics is basically just a smashed bug on Marvel Comics’ windshield. At some point, there is going to have to be a change in leadership and editorial.

Image Comics placed eight comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were flat as Image Comics also had eight comics in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had six comics in the Top 75 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had six comics in the Top 75 in April 2022.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 75 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in April 2022.

IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that IDW Publishing had in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 75 in April 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 75 in April 2022.

BOOM! Studios had one comic in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as BOOM! Studios had zero comics in the Top 75 in April 2023. However, numbers were way down from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had four comics in the Top 75 in April 2022.

DSTLRY had one comic in the Top 75.

The Battle for the Top 100 Comic Book Sales

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 76-100 range typically sell in the 24,000 to 18,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed sixty-one comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down from the sixty-three comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Marvel Comics had sixty-one comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. However, numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fifty comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

DC Comics placed twenty comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat as DC Comics also had twenty comics in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had twenty-five comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had thirty-three comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

Again, the fact that DC Comics is selling so much less than it was two years ago and one year ago should be alarming for the publisher. The entire organization needs to be examined with a critical eye to how decisions are made and which talent is hired.

Image Comics placed nine comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down from the thirteen comics that Image Comics had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Image Comics had nine comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also flat from two years ago as Image Comics had nine comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

BOOM! Studios had two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as BOOM! Studios had two comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. However, numbers were down from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had four comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that IDW Publishing had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also flat from two years ago as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

DSTLRY had one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that DSTLRY had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as DSTLRY had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as DSTLRY had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

Titan Comics had one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that Titan Comics had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Titan Comics had zero comic in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Titan Comics had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

Conan the Barbarian #10 took the number 82 spot in the rankings. This is an impressive showing for yet another old franchise. I would not have predicted that Titan’s Conan would still be a Top 100 by the tenth issue. This is another case of an older property being able to generate a good amount of reader interest. These licenses are continuing to be a boon to these smaller comic publishers.

Mad Cave Studios had one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that Mad Cave Studios had in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Mad Cave Studios had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Mad Cave Studios had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

Dick Tracy #1 debuted at the number 85 spot. This issue had three open order covers, two incentive covers, and ten retailer exclusive covers. That is a paltry amount of variant covers compared to what Dynamite Entertainment rolled out! At any rate, This is definitely higher in the sales ranking than I had anticipated! Another old property finds some solid sales success for a small publisher. However, in this case, we are not talking about a 1980s property or even a 1960s property. Dick Tracy is a 1930s property! It is pretty cool to see Dick Tracy in the Top 100 in 2024. I hope this title continues to do well for Mad Cave Studios.

Dark Horse Comics had one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat as Dark Horse Comics also had one comic in the Top 100 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dark Horse Comics had zero comics in the Top 100 in April 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Dark Horse Comics had one comic in the Top 100 in April 2022.

The Joshua Williamson Award For The Writer With The Most Titles In The Top 50

Two writers had two issues of the same title in the Top 50.

Victor LaValle had two issues of the same title with Wolverine #47 at the number 15 spot and Wolverine #48 at the number 24 spot.

Zeb Wells had two issues of the same title with Amazing Spider-Man #47 at the number 4 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #48 at the number 8 spot.

Four writers had two issues from different titles in the Top 50.

Al Ewing had two issues from different titles in Resurrection of Magneto #4 at the number 37 spot and Roxxon Presents Thor #1 at the number 47 spot.

Ram V had two issues from different titles in Universal Monsters the Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives #1 at the number 16 spot and Detective Comics #1084 at the number 41 spot.

Kieron Gillen had two issues from different titles in Rise of the Powers of X #4 at the number 11 spot and X-Men Forever #2 at the number 32 spot.

Chip Zdarsky had two issues from different titles in Avengers: Twilight #5 at the number 10 spot and Batman #146 at the number 43 spot.

One writer had three issues from the same title in the Top 50. That would be Jonathan Hickman with Ultimate Spider-Man #4 at the number 1 spot, Ultimate Spider-Man #1 at the number 27 spot, and Ultimate Spider-Man #3 at the number 35 spot.

Two writers had three issues from different titles in the Top 50.

Jed MacKay had three issues from different titles with Blood Hunt #1 at the number 6 spot, Blood Hunt: Red Band #1 at the number 14 spot, and Avengers #13 at the number 40 spot.

Gerry Duggan had three issues from different titles with Fall of the House of X #4 at the number 9 spot, X-Men #34 at the number 28 spot, and Invincible Iron Man #17 at the number 48 spot.

One writer did even better and scored four issues from different titles in the Top 50. That would be Benjamin Percy with Wolverine #47 at the number 15 spot, Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #1 at the number 19 spot, Wolverine #48 at the number 24 spot, and Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #2 at the number 49 spot. Percy continues to impress as he has been a threat to win the Joshua Williamson Award on a consistent basis.

However, much like the Highlander, in the end there can be only one. That one writer stood atop the mountain with a staggering five issues from five different titles and two different publishers! No other writer boasts of such an accomplishment! Joshua Williamson had Cobra Commander #4 at the number 12 spot, Action Comics #1064 at the number 21 spot, Superman #13 at the number 25 spot, Duke #5 at the number 26 spot, and Batman and Robin #8 at the number 46 spot.

Therefore, the winner of the Joshua Williamson Award for April 2024 is…Joshua Williamson! Phenomenal! It is Williamson’s world and we are just living in it!

Battle of the Franchises

The X-Men franchise took first place with three comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and eleven comics in the Top 50.

The Spider-Man franchise took second place with three comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

The Avengers franchise took third place with two comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

The Batman franchise took fourth place with zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

The Hasbro franchise took fifth place with one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

As usual, we will deal with these various debut issues in the individual franchise sections below.

Big Events

Blood Hunt

6 Blood Hunt #1 (Bloodhunt) (Marvel Comics)

14 Blood Hunt: Red Band #1 (Bloodhunt) (Marvel Comics)

Jed MacKay just keeps on winning as his Blood Hunt #1 scored an impressive debut taking the number 6 spot. Bloodhunt #1 actually debuted on May 1, 2024, but it made its way into the April 2024 sales rankings. This five-issue big event is off to a good start. I have confidence that this Avengers/Blade/Spider-Man/Doctor Strange team-up will prove to be a strong seller for Marvel Comics.

Fall of the House of X

9 Fall of the House of X #4 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

11 Rise of the Powers of X #4 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

32 X-Men Forever #2 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

37 Resurrection of Magneto #4 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

48 Invincible Iron Man #17 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

55 Dead X-Men #4 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

69 X-Men #33 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics)

163 Rise of the Powers of X #3 (Fall of the House of X) (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

Fall of the House of X continues to be a success for Marvel Comics. This big event had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

House of Brainiac

21 Action Comics #1064 (House of Brainiac) (DC Comics)

25 Superman #13 (House of Brainiac) (DC Comics)

58 Green Lantern #10 (House of Brainiac) (DC Comics)

80 Superman House of Brainiac Special #1 (One-Shot) (House of Brainiac) (DC Comics)

94 Power Girl #8 (House of Brainiac) (DC Comics)

House of Brainiac got off to a bit of a mixed start. Superman: House of Brainiac Special #1 failed to even make the Top 75. On the positive side, both Superman titles finished in the Top 25.

Hasbro Franchise

3 Transformers #7

12 Cobra Commander #4 (Of 5)

26 Duke #5 (Of 5)

104 Void Rivals #8

144 Transformers #1 (Resolicitation)

166 Duke #4 (Of 5) (Resolicitation)

190 Transformers #6 (Resolicitation)

The Hasbro franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in March 2024 when the Hasbro franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Transformers #7 climbed from the number 6 spot to the number 3 spot. This valuable license continues to be a total sales monster. What is really amazing is that the resolictiation for Transformers #1 made the Top 150! For a comic book from seven months ago to make the Top 150 is insane. What a testament to the power of the Transformers franchise under Image Comics’ guiding hand.

Cobra Commander #4 ticked up from the number 18 spot to the number 12 spot. This five-issue mini-series is a lock to finish in the Top 25 next month.

Duke #5 climbed from the number 34 spot to the number 26 spot. With this issue, the Duke mini-series has concluded. Duke came so close to concluding in the Top 25! Still, this mini-series was a huge sales success for Image Comics.

Void Rivals #8 fell from the number 86 spot to the number 104 spot. This is the first time that Void Rivals has failed to make the Top 100. Void Rivals is easily the weakest seller of all the Hasbro-licensed titles.

Spawn Franchise

50 Spawn Rat City #1

64 Spawn #352

109 Spawn Scorched #28

122 Sam and Twitch Case Files #2

137 King Spawn #33

151 Gunslinger Spawn #30 (Resolicitation)

The Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was better than March 2024 when the Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Spawn Rat City #1 debuted at the number 50 spot. This is a less-than-impressive debut. This would indicate that Spawn Ray City may drop out of the Top 100 in quick fashion.

Erica Schultz is the writer for this new Spawn title. Image Comics made a big deal of Schultz being the first female writer on a Spawn franchise title. That means nothing to me. I just want to read quality Spawn stories regardless if it is a dude or a dudette writing the comic. Schultz failed to have any sales success at Marvel Comics. So, I am not sure about her selection as the writer of this title. However, maybe Spawn will be a better fit for Schultz than the 616 Universe was. We shall see.

Spawn #352 rose from the number 67 spot to the number 64 spot. Spawn continues to sell at a steady rate and remains a lock for the Top 75.

Spawn Scorched #28 climbed from the number 132 spot to the number 109 spot. I like this title and would love to see it crack back into the Top 100.

Sam and Twitch Case Files #2 dipped from the number 113 spot to the number 122 spot. That is not bad at all! A mere single-digit drop between a debut issue and a second issue is pretty solid. This is much better than I was expecting. This title might be able to hang around the bottom of the Top 125 going forward. Word of mouth might even be able to tick this title back up in the rankings a bit.

King Spawn #33 ticked up from the number 138 spot to the number 137 spot. This issue shipped on May 1, 2024, but was included in the April 2024 sales chart.

Ghost Machine Titles

103 Rook Exodus #1

112 Redcoat #1

113 Geiger #1

Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in March 2024 when Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

The three new Ghost Machine titles shipped in April 2024 but were still added to the March 2024 rankings. This definitely diluted the rankings for these three new titles in both the April and March sales rankings. I will be interested to see how these titles perform when their sales numbers are included in just the sales ranking for the month that they ship.

Star Wars Franchise

19 Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #1

39 Star Wars: Darth Vader #45

51 Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #4

81 Star Wars Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Special #1

84 Star Wars: Mace Windu #3

86 Star Wars: Jango Fett #2

95 Star Wars: The High Republic (Phase III) #6

124 Star Wars #45 (Resolicitation)

The Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 25 but the same in the Top 50 than in March 2024 when the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were also down from two years ago as the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #1 had a nice debut taking the number 19 spot. This four-issue mini-series looks like it has a chance to conclude in the Top 50.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #45 climbed from the number 59 spot to the number 39 spot. This title continues to bob in and out of the Top 50 on a monthly basis.

Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #4 shot up from the number 91 spot to the number 51 spot. This arrested two straight months of declines in the sales rankings. What a nice rebound that almost allowed this four-issue mini-series to conclude in the Top 50.

Star Wars Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Special #1 debuted at the number 81 spot. The George Lucas prequel got some love from readers.

Star Wars: Mace Windu #3 rose from the number 110 spot to the number 84 spot. This is still much lower than I would have anticipated for a character as popular as Mace Windu. Having said that, there is a chance that this four-issue mini-series might be able to conclude in the Top 100.

Star Wars: Jango Fett #2 crashed from the number 48 spot to the number 86 spot. This was predictable given the poor debut number this four-issue mini-series scored last month. This title is going to have a tough time concluding in the Top 100.

Star Wars: The High Republic (Phase III) #6 ticked up from the number 111 spot to the number 95 spot. The High Republic continues to be a concept that has not resonated with readers like the Lucasfilm Story Group had hoped it would.

As to be expected, Star Wars titles connected to the original trilogy or the prequels are what dominates the Top 50. The lowest selling Star Wars title is the only title not attached to the original trilogy or the prequels.

195 Amazing Spider-Man #255 Facsimile Edition

The Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in March 2024 when the Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and thirteen comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were also down as the Spider-Man franchise had four comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were up in the Top 25 and flat in the Top 10 and Top 50 from two years ago as the Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Good lord. Ultimate Spider-Man continues to be a total sales beast! Ultimate Spider-Man #4 ticked up from the number 2 spot to the number 1 spot despite shipping in the last week of April 2024. The myth of shipping in the final week of a month as a detriment continues to fade. Jonathan Hickman’s title continues to be an unstoppable juggernaut. Sometimes it pays just to give the audience what they want rather than continuing to lecture and to berate them for what they don’t want.

What is equally impressive are the insane resolicitation numbers. 27 Ultimate Spider-Man #1 took the number 27 spot. That is bonkers that an issue from four months ago almost cracked the Top 25! Ultimate Spider-Man #3 took the number 35 spot. That is three issues of Ultimate Spider-Man in the Top 25. Crazy. We also saw Ultimate Spider-Man #2 at the number 73 spot. Slotting all four issues of this new title in the Top 75 is breathtaking and not something I have ever seen.

Amazing Spider-Man #47 scored the number 4 spot while Amazing Spider-Man #48, shipping in the last week of April, scored the number 8 spot. This speaks to the unimpeachable selling power of Peter Parker. It is tough for any title to ship two issues in the same month and have both of them score high sales rankings. It is practically unheard of to see a title ship two issues in the same month and slot both of them in the Top 10!

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #1 came in the number 120 spot. This issue shipped in the first week of April and was included in March numbers. So, I am sure if all the sales numbers had been included in just April’s charts that it would have done better.

Spectacular Spider-Men #2 fell from the number 4 spot to the number 17 spot. It will be interesting to see if this title can remain in the Top 25 or not next month.

All right, let’s check out the knock-off Spider-Men.

Edge of Spider-Verse #3 enjoyed a nice rebound rising from the number 42 spot to the number 20 spot. This is a positive sign for this four-issue mini-series as it now has a shot of concluding in the Top 25.

Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #2 dropped from the number 29 spot to the number 53 spot. As a Miguel O’Hara fan, I was hoping that this title would be able to remain in the Top 50. But, that was not meant to be. Hopefully, this five-issue mini-series has the legs to conclude in the Top 100.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #19 fell from the number 35 spot to the number 56 spot. This is the fourth consecutive month that Miles has dropped in the rankings. It looks like this title has finally cooled off and its days in the Top 25 are behind it. The big question is if this title can rebound back into the Top 50 or if it continues its slide down the rankings next month.

Spider-Boy #6 rebounded climbing from the number 84 spot to the number 61 spot. I do not think this title has the legs to crack back into the Top 75. But, it might be able to remain a consistent Top 75 seller.

Spider-Punk: Arms Race #3 climbed up from the number 79 spot to the number 63 spot. This four-issue mini-series has a shot of concluding in the Top 75 next month.

Superior Spider-Man #6 rebounded from the number 99 spot to the number 71 spot. This was a positive sign for this young title as last month was an unusually large drop in the rankings.

New let’s look at the Venomverse.

What If…? Venom #3 fell from the number 41 spot to the number 57 spot. This is the second straight month this title has dropped in the rankings.

Carnage #6 ticked up from the number 80 spot to the number 76 spot. This is the second consecutive month that Carnage has climbed up in the rankings.

Venom #32 took the number 110 spot. However, this was an issue that shipped in the first week of April 2024 and was improperly included in the March 2024 rankings. So, there is no doubt that if all the sales numbers had been included in the April 2024 rankings it would have been ranked much higher.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Spider-Man franchise.

Jackpot & Black Cat #2 plummeted from the number 50 spot to the number 83 spot. I would expect this title to drop out of the Top 100 next month. This is not a surprise given the awful debut number for this title. Hiring Celeste Bronfman, another non-superhero comic book writer, has blown up in Marvel Comics’ face.

Spider-Woman #6 rebounded from the number 165 spot to the number 128 spot. Spider-Woman #7 climbed from the number 128 spot to the number 119 spot. However, this issue shipped on May 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the April 2024 sales chart. It will be interesting to see how this title performs over the next few months.

170 Wolverine #46 (Resolicitation)

The X-Men franchise had three comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and eleven comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 10 and Top 25 but worse in the Top 50 than in March 2024 when the X-Men franchise had two comics in the Top 10, eight comics in the Top 25, and twelve comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as the X-Men franchise had two comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Ultimate X-Men #2 dipped from the number 1 spot to the number 2 spot. Wow, Ultimate X-Men continues to be white-hot! This title is not for me, but clearly, many people love Momoko’s work on this title.

Fall of the House of X #4 ticked up from the number 12 spot to the number 9 spot. This five-issue miniseries has a good shot of finishing in the Top 10 next month.

Rise of the Powers of X #4 climbed from the number 26 spot to the number 11 spot. This five-issue mini-series is a lock to finish in the Top 25.

X-Men ’97 #2 dropped from the number 10 spot to the number 18 spot. That is an incredibly small drop between a debut issue and a second issue. This five-issue mini-series appears to have a shot of staying in the Top 25 next month.

X-Men #33 took the number 69 spot. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024 but was improperly included in the March 2024 sales chart. If all the sales numbers had just been included in the April 2024 sales chart then this title would have done much better in the rankings.

X-Men #34 took the number 28 spot. The reason that this title is outside of the Top 25 is that it shipped on May 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the April 2024 sales chart.

X-Men Forever #2 dropped from the number 14 spot to the number 32 spot. It looks like this four-issue mini-series is going to certainly finish outside of the Top 25. It now has to set its sights on just remaining in the Top 50 until the end.

Weapon X-Men #2 fell from the number 22 spot to the number 54 spot. Weapon X-Men #3 fell from the number 54 spot to the number 90 spot. However, Weapon X-Men #3 actually shipped on May 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the April 2024 sales chart.

Dead X-Men #4 ticked up from the number 56 spot to the number 55 spot. This is the second straight month that this title has climbed in the rankings. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded and just barely missed out on finishing in the Top 50. This mini-series was a solid but not spectacular seller for Marvel Comics.

Let’s look at the solo titles.

Deadpool Wolverine: WWIII #1 scored an impressive debut by taking the number 5 spot in the rankings. This is no surprise given the popularity of these two characters.

Wolverine #47 took the number 15 spot and Wolverine #48 took the number 24 spot. This was a bit better than in March 2024 when the two issues of Wolverine took the numbers 17 and 36 spots.

Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #3 rebounded from the number 96 spot to the number 88 spot.

Deadpool #1 came in the number 34 spot. This issue also scored the number 15 spot in the March 2024 sales chart. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024 and was improperly included in the March 2024 sales chart. To be sure, Deadpool #1 would have probably been in the Top 5 had all of its sales numbers been properly included in the April 2024 sales rankings.

Resurrection of Magneto #4 climbed from the number 45 spot to the number 37 spot. This is the second straight month this title has climbed in the rankings. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series concluded safely inside the Top 50. This mini-series was another sales success for Marvel Comics.

Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #2 fell from the number 52 spot to the number 77 spot. This was not a surprise given this title’s terrible debut number. This four-issue limited series is a lock to finish outside the Top 75. Again, hiring people who are not mainstream comic book writers blows up in Marvel Comics’ face. Everyone other than a Marvel Comics editor can see this coming from a mile away.

Cable #4 fell from the number 118 spot to the number 123 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded. This title was a sales failure for Marvel Comics.

Avengers Franchise

157 Captain Marvel #7

164 Ultimate Black Panther #2 (Resolicitation)

184 Incredible Hulk #10 (Resolicitation)

191 Sensational She-Hulk #7

The Avengers franchise had two comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50. This was better than March 2024 when the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up in the Top 10, down in the Top 25, and flat in the Top 50 as the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were up in the Top 10 and Top 50, but down in the Top 25 from two years ago as the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Avengers: Twilight #5 ticked up from the number 13 spot to the number 10 spot. This is the second straight month this title has risen in the rankings. This six-issue mini-series has a shot of concluding in the Top 10.

Avengers #12 took the number 135 spot. This issue took the number 93 spot in the March 2024 sales rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024 and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales rankings. If all the numbers had been properly in the April 2024 rankings then it certainly would have scored a better ranking.

Avengers #13 took the number 40 spot. This is a bit better than Avengers #11 which scored the number 44 spot. This title continues to be a lock for the Top 50.

Let’s check out the dudes of the Avengers franchise.

Ultimate Black Panther #3 ticked up from the number 8 spot to the number 7 spot. It is phenomenal that this title has actually climbed up the rankings over the past two months after its debut issue. That is a rarity. Ulaitme Black Panther is proof that if Marvel Comics just focuses on superhero action and fun in a Black Panther title then the readers will support it. It is not that hard to figure out.

Incredible Hulk #11 rebounded from the number 43 spot to the number 29 spot. This is about where we expect to see this title in the rankings. Incredible Hulk #12 took the number 60 spot. However, this issue shipped on May 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the April 2024 sales rankings.

Giant-Size Hulk #1 came in at the number 65 spot. This was an unimpressive ranking for this one-shot issue.

Roxxon Presents Thor #1 took the number 47 spot. This was a pedestrian debut for this one-shot issue.

Immortal Thor #10 took the number 62 spot. This issue also took the number 76 spot in the March 2024 sales rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024 and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales rankings. If all the numbers had been properly in the April 2024 rankings then it certainly would have scored a better ranking.

Immortal Thor #9 came in the number 114 spot. However, this issue shipped on April 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales rankings.

Invincible Iron Man #17 climbed from the number 61 spot to the number 48 spot. It appears being included in the Fall of the House of X story helped to boost Mr. Emma Frost’s sales numbers.

Invincible Iron Man #18 fell to the number 75 spot. However, this issue shipped on May 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the April 2024 sales rankings.

Get Fury #1 debuted at the number 70 spot. This issue shipped on May 1, 2024, and should not have been included in the April 2024 sales rankings. This issue got a big thumbs up from me. Garth Ennis writing the real Nick Fury? Yes, please!

Captain America #8 took the number 167 spot. This issue also took the number 137 spot in the March 2024 sales rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024, and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales chart. This issue would have certainly done better in the rankings had all the sales numbers only been included in the April 2024 sales ranking.

Let’s check out the duo titles

Black Widow & Hawkeye #2 plummeted from the number 66 spot to the number 100 spot. This was not a surprise given the terrible debut numbers. Nobody should be surprised by this poor sales number despite this title starring two popular mainstream characters. Stephanie Phillips has never had any sales success as a mainstream superhero comic book writer. Yet she keeps getting hired for some mysterious reason.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3 ticked up from the number 109 spot to the number 108 spot. Steve Orlando’s four-issue mini-series seems a lock to finish in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Avengers franchise.

Captain Marvel #7 climbed from the number 181 spot to the number 157 spot. Alyssa Wong’s Captain Marvel continues to be a total sales failure. It is amazing how quickly this young title became a Dead Title Walking. I am sure that this title will get canceled soon. Then Marvel Comics will put another lousy writer on this title and restart it with a brand new #1 issue and the cycle will repeat itself all over again.

Sensational She-Hulk #7 took the number 191 spot. This issue also took the number 151 spot in the March 2024 sales rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024, and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales chart. However, unlike some of the other titles in this situation, I am unsure if having all the sales numbers for this issue in the April 2024 sales chart would have helped too much. I think this issue would have still missed out on the Top 100.

143 Ultimate Universe #1 (Resolicitation)

164 Ultimate Black Panther #2 (Resolicitation)

The Ultimate Universe had three comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Ultimate Spider-Man continues to be the crown jewel of the Ultimate Universe by taking the overall number 1 spot and placing three issues in the Top 35 and four issues in the Top 75.

Ultimate X-Men #2 is the second-best Ultimate Universe title with one issue at the number 2 spot and two issues in the Top 100.

Ultimate Black Panther comes in third place among the Ultimate Universe titles with one issue at the number 7 spot and three issues in the Top 175. This really highlights the sales power of the Ultimate Universe right now when a title like Ultimate Black Panther with great sales numbers is only the third-place title!

Unranked: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #127

The Batman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and up in the Top 50 than in March 2024 when the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25 and flat in the Top 50 as the Batman franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were down from two years ago as the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Let’s start with the Bruce Wayne titles.

Batman #146 took the number 43 spot. Batman #146 also took the number 30 spot in the March 2024 sales rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024, and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales numbers. If all the sales numbers had just been in the April 2024 sales rankings then Batman #146 would have certainly been a Top 10 title.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #26 dipped from the number 28 spot to the number 30 spot. This is the same place in the rankings that Batman Superman World’s Finest #24 had in February 2024. This title has been rock solid and consistent over the past three months.

The Bat-Man First Knight #2 fell from the number 27 spot to the number 38 spot. That is not a big drop and less than I was expecting given the debut number. This is a great sign that this three-issue mini-series may finish in the Top 50.

Detective Comics #1084 bounced from the number 65 spot to the number 41 spot. This is a nice return to the Top 50 after missing out over the past two months.

Batman and Robin #8 rebounded from the number 74 spot to the number 46 spot. This is almost exactly where Batman and Robin #6 was in February 2024 when it took the number 47 spot. This is more positive news for another Bruce Wayne title.

April 2024 continued to shine on Bruce Wayne’s titles as Batman Off-World #4 climbed from the number 94 spot to the number 74 spot. This six-issue limited series from Jason Aaron is still massively underperforming. I know that DC Comics was expecting much better sales numbers when they brought in a “big name” like Aaron.

Batman Dark Age #2 fell from the number 72 spot to the number 89 spot. This is zero surprise. Mark Russell is a lousy writer and has never had any sales success on a mainstream superhero comic book. Not even the most popular character in all of DC Comics can change that fact. This six-issue limited series looks like it will be in the Dead Titles Walking category by the next month.

Batman the Brave and the Bold #12 climbed from the number 167 spot to the number 140 spot. This snapped two straight months of declines in the rankings. Having said that, this title remains doomed to dwell in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Batman Dylan Dog #2 ticked up from the number 154 spot to the number 142 spot. That is impressive! To see a title rise up in the rankings after scoring a hideous debut number is a rarity. However, it still looks like this three-issue miniseries is going to conclude outside of the Top 100.

Now let’s check out the old Robins.

Nightwing #113 climbed from the number 49 spot to the number 23 spot. This is a bit better than Nightwing #111 in February 2024 which took the number 28 spot. This is where we like to see Nightwing in the sales rankings. Plus, DC Comics cannot afford to have Dick Grayson not selling well. They desperately need someone other than Bruce Wayne to help sell comics.

Nightwing Annual 2024 #1 had an awful debut barely making the Top 100 and slotting in at the number 99 spot. It looks like not many readers were interested in a Bea Bennett one-shot. That is no surprise as I skipped this issue, too.

Red Hood the Hill #3 ticked up from the number 139 spot to the number 133 spot. That is much better than I anticipated after a terrible debut ranking and a huge drop in the rankings with the second issue. It still looks like this six-issue mini-series is doomed to finish in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s check out the team title.

Outsiders #6 bounced from the number 184 spot to the number 158 spot. Lanzing and Kelly’s twelve-issue mini-series has hit the halfway point and has been a big sales disappointment.

Now on to the ladies of the Batman franchise.

Catwoman #64 climbed from the number 89 spot to the number 78 spot. This is the second straight month that this title has climbed in the rankings. This is also the highest this title has been in the rankings in forever. I am not sure what is suddenly driving this sales spike in the middle of a story arc, but DC Comics won’t look a gift horse in the mouth!

Harley Quinn #39 fell from the number 103 spot to the number 115 spot. There are three things you can always count on: Death, Taxes, and Harley Quinn finishing in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Harley Quinn 2024 Annual #1 debuted at the number 172 spot. What an embarrassing sales ranking. This is no surprise. DC Comics hired Erica Henderson who is an artist to write this issue. Once again, hiring a person who is not a mainstream superhero comic book writer blows up in DC Comics’ face. DC Comics editorial is like Wyle E. Coyote with how often this happens to them over and over again.

Poison Ivy #21 took the number 165 spot. This issue also took the number 141 spot in the March 2024 rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024, so it should not have been included in the March 2024 rankings. I am unsure if including all of this issue’s sales numbers into April 2024 would have been enough to get this title into the Top 75.

Let’s wrap up with the lone villain title.

Penguin #9 climbed from the number 159 spot to the number 126 spot. This twelve-issue limited series remains a sales disappointment.

Superman Franchise

21 Action Comics #1064 (House of Brainiac)

25 Superman #13 (House of Brainiac)

30 Batman Superman World’s Finest #26

80 Superman House of Brainiac Special #1 (One-Shot) (House of Brainiac)

94 Power Girl #8 (House of Brainiac)

Unranked: Kneel Before Zod #4

Unranked: Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #6

The Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was better than March 2024 when the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10, up in the Top 25, and down in the Top 50 as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Action Comics #1064 climbed from the number 49 spot to the number 21 spot. This is even better than two months ago when Action Comics #1062 took the number 29 spot. Jason Aaron still has not been able to do better than his debut issue of Action Comics #1061 which took the number 18 spot. At least it appears that the House of Brainiac big event led to a nice sales bump this month, but nothing that special compared to the first two issues of Aaron’s run on this title. At any rate, I am sure DC Comics will be happy if Action Comics can remain a consistent Top 25 title going forward.

Superman #13 climbed from the number 53 spot to the number 25 spot. It appears that the House of Brainiac big event has also blessed this title with a nice sales bump. DC Comics would be over the moon if Superman can also remain a consistent Top 25 going forward. Two Superman titles in the Top 25 every month? It has been forever since we have seen that!

Superman House of Brainiac Special #1 debuted at the number 80 spot. This one-shot was a sales dud which is surprising given how well the House of Brainiac tie-in issues performed in April 2024.

Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #6 was unranked. This is the second straight month that this title has been out of the Top 200 and unranked.

Power Girl #8 climbed from the number 123 spot to the number 94 spot. Once again, we see another nice sales bump due to the House of Brainiac big event.

Unranked: Kneel Before Zod #4 dropped from the 171 spot, fell right out of the Top 200, and was unranked. I predicted this would happen this month. This title has been a massive swing-and-a-miss.

Looping back to the House of Brainiac big event, the first week has been a smashing success. All three House of Brainiac tie-in issues scored big sales bumps. We shall see if this can be sustained in the following months.

Justice League Franchise

31 Wonder Woman #8

58 Green Lantern #10 (House of Brainiac)

87 The Flash #8

98 Green Arrow #11

130 The Flash 2024 Annual #1 (One-Shot)

134 Green Lantern War Journal #8

181 Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #6 (Of 7) (Resolicitation)

The Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was worse than in March 2024 when the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10, down in the Top 25, and flat in the Top 50 as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25 and flat in the Top 50 from two years ago as the Justice League franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in April 2022.

Let’s check out the lads of the Justice League franchise.

Green Lantern #10 rebounded from the number 73 spot to the number 58 spot. This issue was another House of Brainiac tie-in issue. Once again, we see the House of Brainiac big event giving a comic a sales bump. However, the bad news is that despite the House of Brainiac tie-in story, Green Lantern #10 still slotted lower in the rankings than two months ago when Green Lantern #8 took the number 42 spot. We shall see if this title can claw its way back into the Top 50.

Green Lantern War Journal #8 climbed from the number 169 spot to the number 134 spot. It is good to see this title experiencing a sales rebound. However, this is still lower than two months ago when Green Lantern War Journal #6 took the number 108 spot. This title seems doomed to stay in the Dead Titles Walking category.

The Flash #8 rebounded from the number 126 spot to the number 87 spot. This was a positive sign. It is unrealistic to expect this version of The Flash to become a Top 75 title. But, there is no excuse for this to not at least be a consistent Top 100 title.

The Flash 2024 Annual #1 debuted at the number 130 spot. This one-shot was a total sales dud.

Green Arrow #11 climbed from the number 117 spot to the number 98 spot. This title continues to struggle to remain in the Top 100.

Let’s wrap up with the sole lass of the Justice League franchise.

Wonder Woman #8 ticked up from the number 32 spot to the number 31 spot. It appears that this title may have stabilized and found its happy place in the rankings. I am sure DC Comics was hoping this title would be a consistent Top 25 title, but they won’t complain too much if Wonder Woman remains a consistent Top 50 title going forward.

Justice Society Franchise

141 Jay Garrick the Flash #6 (Of 6)

The Justice Society franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in March 2024 when the Justice Society franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Jay Garrick the Flash #6 rebounded from the number 152 spot to the number 141 spot. With this issue, this mini-series has concluded. Much like the other JSA-related mini-series, this title was a total sales failure. DC Comics editorial has no clue what to do with this franchise.

Mantle Swap Comics

56 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #19 (Marvel Comics)

63 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #3 (Marvel Comics)

67 Vengeance of the Moon Knight #5 (Marvel Comics)

71 Superior Spider-Man #6 (Marvel Comics)

77 Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #2 (Marvel Comics)

138 Vengeance of the Moon Knight #4 (Marvel Comics)

152 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #18 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

157 Captain Marvel #7 (Marvel Comics)

174 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #2 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Blue Beetle #8 (DC Comics)

There were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in March 2024 when there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were also down as there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #4 took the number 138 spot. This title also took the number 104 spot in the March 2024 sales rankings. This issue shipped in the first week of April 2024 and should not have been included in the March 2024 sales rankings. Had all the sales numbers been included in Aril 2024 then this issue would have certainly been in the Top 75.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #5 took the number 67 spot. The decision to roll out a mantle-swap Moon Kngiht has been a sales disaster. Moon Knight used to be a sales beast and would be in the Top 15 to Top 25 every month. Now? Moon Knight cannot even crack the Top 50. I am unsure who over at Marvel Comics thought that messing with the formula for success was a good idea.

Blue Beetle #8 fell from the number 195 spot dropped out of the Top 200 and was unranked. We all saw this coming. This was inevitable. All Jamie Reyes titles end up here.

Speed Force #6 was unranked for a fifth straight month. This title suffers from poor editorial and writing. Speed Force also suffers from the problem of targeting an audience that does not exist.

Legacy Character Comics

23 Nightwing #113 (DC Comics)

59 Titans #10 (DC Comics)

61 Spider-Boy #6 (Marvel Comics)

87 The Flash #8 (DC Comics)

99 Nightwing Annual 2024 #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics)

130 The Flash 2024 Annual #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics)

133 Red Hood the Hill #3 (Of 6) (DC Comics)

158 Outsiders #6 (DC Comics)

183 Birds of Prey #8 (DC Comics) (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Speed Force #6 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Sinister Sons #3 (DC Comics)

There were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in March 2024 when there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in April 2023.

Titans #10 rebounded from the number 71 spot to the number 59 spot. This is a good sign, but DC Comics really needs the Titans franchise to be a consistent Top 50 title.

Sinister Sons #3 was unranked for a second straight month. Talk about a title targeting an audience that does not exist. What a huge sales failure this six-issue mini-series has been.

Female Lead Comics

31 Wonder Woman #8 (DC Comics)

77 Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #2 (Marvel Comics)

78 Catwoman #64 (DC Comics)

83 Jackpot & Black Cat #2 (Marvel Comics)

94 Power Girl #8 (House of Brainiac) (DC Comics)

111 Predator: The Last Hunt #3 (Marvel Comics)

115 Harley Quinn #39 (DC Comics)

119 Spider-Woman #7 (Marvel Comics)

128 Spider-Woman #6 (Marvel Comics)

157 Captain Marvel #7 (Marvel Comics)

165 Poison Ivy #21 (DC Comics)

172 Harley Quinn 2024 Annual #1 (One-Shot) (DC Comics)

183 Birds of Prey #8 (DC Comics) (Resolicitation)

191 Sensational She-Hulk #7 (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: Primer #2 (DC Comics)

There were zero female lead comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was worse than in March 2024 when there were zero female lead comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Numbers were also down from two years ago as there were zero female lead comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in April 2022.

Numbers were down in the Top 25 from two years ago as there were two female lead comics in the Top 25 in April 2022.

Year-over-year numbers were flat as DC Comics also had one female lead comic in the Top 50 in April 2023. Numbers were up in the Top 50 from two years ago as there were zero female lead comics in the Top 25 in April 2022.

Marvel placed zero female lead comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were down as Marvel Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 75 in March 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down by a massive margin as Marvel Comics had seven female lead comics in the Top 75 in April 2023. Numbers were down dramatically in the Top 75 from two years ago as there were seven female lead comics in the Top 75 in April 2022.

Numbers were down in the Top 100 from two years ago as there were six female lead comics in the Top 100 in April 2022.

DC Comics barely won by a score of 3-2. In reality, nobody is winning in this category and the readers are the ones who are losing the most. DC Comics should be crushing Marvel Comics in this category as they are blessed with so many fantastic female superheroes.

The reason for such massive fluctuations in this category is that Marvel Comics and DC Comics will roll out a bunch of new female lead titles that will score solid debut numbers. However, in the following months, the new titles will crash and burn in the rankings. The problem with the rapid drop in sales numbers and the lack of any sustained sales success in this category is due to the lack of quality writers in this category, bad editorial decisions, and targeting an audience that does not exist.

Minority Lead Comics

7 Ultimate Black Panther #3 (Marvel Comics)

53 Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #2 (Marvel Comics)

56 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #19 (Marvel Comics)

There continues to be a lack of diversity in this category. Eight are black characters. Two are Hispanic. One is Asian.

Marvel Comics crushed DC Comics by a score of 6-0. Neither publisher is having much sales success in this category. It is more of Marvel Comics sucking less than DC Comics.

Blade #10 rebounded from the number 140 spot to the number 118 spot. With this issue, Blade has concluded. Unfortunately, Bryan Hill could not get this limited series to conclude outside of the Dead Titles Walking category. This mini-series ended up being a huge sales disappointment for Marvel Comics.

Night Thrasher #3 was unranked for a second straight month. We all saw this coming once Marvel Comics editorial hired a non-comic book writer to write this mini-series. Once again, this approach completely fails in the sales rankings. This sucks. Night Thrasher is a cool character and deserves so much better than this.

Dead Titles Walking

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, titles outside of the Top 100 are usually selling under the 18,000 unit sales mark. These are the Marvel Comics and DC Comics titles that are dead titles walking.

Marvel Comics

100 Black Widow & Hawkeye #2

108 Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3

111 Predator: The Last Hunt #3

118 Blade #10

128 Spider-Woman #6

157 Captain Marvel #7

197 Beware the Planet of the Apes #4

Unranked: Night Thrasher #3

Unranked: Power Pack: Into the Storm #4

Marvel Comics had nine dead titles walking out of their sixty-six new titles in April 2024. This means that 14% of Marvel Comics’ new titles in April 2024 were dead titles walking.

This was down from the seventeen dead titles walking that Marvel Comics had in March 2024 which comprised 22% of Marvel Comics’ new titles.

Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had twenty dead titles walking in April 2023. This comprised 35% of Marvel Comics’ new titles in April 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had three dead titles walking in April 2022.

Unranked: The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #4

Unranked: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #127

DC Comics had nineteen dead titles walking out of DC Comics’ forty-one new titles in April 2024. This means that 46% of the New DC Comics’ titles in April 2024 were dead titles walking.

This was down from the twenty-seven dead titles walking that DC Comics had in March 2024 which comprised 59% of DC Comics’ new titles.

Year-over-year numbers were up as DC Comics had eighteen dead titles walking in April 2023. This comprised 41% of DC Comics’ new titles in April 2023.

Numbers were also up from two years ago as DC Comics had eighteen dead titles walking in April 2022.

The Editors With the Most Dead Titles Walking

One Marvel Comics editor had two dead titles walking.

Kaitlyn Lindtvedt had two dead titles walking with Black Widow & Hawkeye #2 at the number 100 spot, and Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3 at the number 108 spot.

Two Marvel Comics editors had three dead titles walking.

Lindsey Cohick had three dead titles walking with Predator: The Last Hunt #3 at the number 11 spot, Captain Marvel #7 at the number 157 spot, and Beware the Planet of the Apes #4 at the number 197 spot.

Alanna Smith had three dead titles walking with Black Widow & Hawkeye #2 at the number 100 spot, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3 at the number 108 spot, and Power Pack: Into the Storm #4 which was unranked.

However, the Marvel Comic editor with the most dead titles walking in April 2024 was Sarah Brunstad with four titles in Predator: The Last Hunt #3 at the number 111 spot, Captain Marvel #7 at the number 157 spot, Beware the Planet of the Apes #4 at the number 197 spot, and Power Pack: Into the Storm #4 which was unranked.

Ben Meares had three dead titles walking with Penguin #9 at the number 126 spot, Red Hood the Hill #3 at the number 133 spot, and Batman the Brave and the Bold #12 at the number 140 spot.

Ben Abernathy had three dead titles walking with Penguin #9 at the number 126 spot, Red Hood the Hill #3 at the number 133 spot, and Batman the Brave and the Bold #12 at the number 140 spot, and Harley Quinn 2024 Annual #1 at the number 172 spot.

Andrew Marino had three dead titles walking with Jay Garrick the Flash #6 at the number 141 spot, Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #6 which was unranked, and Blue Beetle #8 which was unranked.

One DC Comics editor had four dead titles walking. That was Katie Kubert with Jay Garrick the Flash #6 at the number 141 spot, Batman Dylan Dog #2 at the number 142 spot, Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #6 which was unranked, and Blue Beetle #8 which was unranked.

However, there was one DC Comics editor who had even more dead titles walking. That was Paul Kaminski with five dead walking titles in Suicide Squad Dream Team #2 at the number 127 spot, Green Lantern War Journal #8 at the number 134 spot, Speed Force #6 which was unranked, Sinister Sons #3 which was unranked, and Kneel Before Zod #4 which was unranked.

The Tini Howard Award For The Writer With The Most Dead Titles Walking

April 2024 was a first in this category. Yes, we had the usual suspects in this category like Alyssa Wong, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Tini Howard. However, what was unique is that this is the first month where there is no writer with more than one dead title walking!

In this situation, we will give the award to the writer who has the most long-running monthly title that is unranked. Jason Holtham had an unranked issue in Night Thrasher #3. Joe Casey had an unranked issue with Kneel Before Zod #4. Robert Venditti had an unranked issue with Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #6. Peter Tomasi had an unranked issue with Sinister Sons #3. Jarrett Williams had an unranked issue with Speed Force #6.

However, all of the above-mentioned titles are mini-series. There was just one unranked ongoing title. That would be Josh Trujillo’s Blue Beetle #8. Therefore, the Tini Howard Award for April 2024 goes to…Josh Trujillo!

All right, that is it for April 2024 Will Marvel Comics continue its domination of the Top 200 in May 2024? We will find out. Until then, everyone stay safe and be good!
