BOOM! Studios provided us with an advanced first look at the covers and first five pages of Briar #4 releasing on April 12, 2023. For those that may not know, Briar is a reimagination of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale that started as a mini-series but was recently upgraded to an ongoing series back in February at this year’s ComicsPRO. The creative team for Briar is writer Christopher Cantwell (Regarding the Matter of Oswald’s Body, Iron Man, Halt, and Catch Fire), artist Germán García (Ka-Zar: Lord of the Savage Land), colorist Matheus Lopes (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), and letterer AndWorld Design (The Many Deaths of Laila Starr).
Briar #4 will mark the conclusion of the first story arc for the series. The solicitation for the fourth issue provides a tease of what fans can expect from the final chapter of Briar’s first story arc:
Grendrid, the only surviving remnant of the sleeping beauty’s past, seeks Briar’s blood! Even the seemingly impenetrable city of Windcross and the memory of its beloved king Rodion can’t protect our hero and her companions Spider and Roop. The relentless Deadcrawl and his assassins hunt at Grendrid’s behest, and it will take everything Briar and her allies have to survive. Will they all make it out alive, perhaps with even a scrap of happy ending? And will Spider finally reveal her connection to Briar’s past?
Along with the main cover for Briar #4 by series artist Germán García there will also be variant covers by superstar artists Yanick Paquette (The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country) with colors by Matheus Lopes, Dan Mora (Detective Comics), and Toni Infante (Grim).
