The new R.E.B.E.L.S. series got off to a good start, not great but good.

The villains will remind you of old Legion of Super-Hero villains. Villains like Tyr and Validus. Vril Dox still appears to be manipulative and egotistical. This is in-line with his characterization in previous series.

The twist this time is that a mysterious entity has taken over L.E.G.I.O.N. and is out to capture Dox. I did enjoy the cameo by Brainiac 5.

The art by Andy Clarke is similar in style to Barry Kitson’s artwork. I believe Kitson was the artist on the original L.E.G.I.O.N. series. Having your art compared to Kitson’s is a compliment. The action scenes (like the big shot of Tigorr being chased) really jump off the page.

Bedard and Clarke have me interested enough to come back for another issue or two. I will keep my eye on this book until I see what direction they are going in.

  1. I agree. I thought I’d give this a go to feed my LSH addiction and it has piqued my interest. Artwork is good and the story has my attention. Like you, I’ll give it a few more issues and see what happens.

  2. As a hardcore LEGION fan (but only an on again off again LSH fan), this issue was great. I can’t wait to see what else Bedard has in store for us.

  3. Rokk, I definitely agree with your fears and hope it even makes 12 issues. Then again, the original LEGION made it 70 so there is hope although they had Lobo at his peak of popularity. Tony has said he is asking for Lobo, so that would be a start. I think the smart thing would be Blackest Night tie-ins, but I don’t think that is in the plans.
