The Secret Invasion Poll

Secret Invasion #1 is slated to come out this week on April 2. So I figured now would be a fine time to slap a poll up on The Revolution. I’m curious to find out about the expectations that the followers of The Revolution have for Secret Invasion. Personally, I think this event is a train wreck waiting to happen. The entire basis for Secret Invasion of who is a Skrull isn’t an actual story or plot. It is simply a plot device.

And while I adored Bendis’ work on Daredevil and have loved his impressive run on Ultimate Spider-Man, the fact is that I have found his work on team titles and big events to be incredibly unimpressive. New Avengers has been a dreadful read and House of M was such a disappointment. Despite Bendis being a talented writer, I simply don’t think that his talents work with team titles and big events.

Having said all that, I am still going to remain optimistic and hope for the best. I would be thrilled if we got treated to a quality read with Secret Invasion.

  1. For the main series, I’ll vote average; there’ll be some really good parts, and some that I’ll probably hate, as is the case with most of his stuff.

One major plus though is that, from the previews, inking and better colouring have made Leinil Yu’s art look pretty good.

I’m actually looking forward to some of the tie-ins more than the main title; in particular, The Incredible Herc‘s “Sacred Invasion” arc, where Hercules assembles the ‘God Squad’ of demi- or full-god heroes to fight off the invading Skrull gods; plus, another Young Avengers miniseries tying into the event, which is awesome because after them being absent for so long I’ll read absolutely anything with them in it.

  2. Just a comment for the poll, i think there should be options between “bendis is a god” and average read lol. Although i am definately looking forward to secret invasion, i wouldnt go so far as to say “bendis is a god” I am of the mind that bendis and brevoort and co. are going to be able to put out a solid read.
I am going to be honest, i do not read very much DC at all, not because i think the comics are bad, but because I didnt grow up watching the characters on TV. I only really started reading comics a couple years ago when i was 17. i grew up watching the X-men and Spider-man on fox kids. And although i think that SI will be a good read, i dont think it will be as good as messiah complex. I did read sinestro corps and i did enjoy it but as i said earlier, i only really have a cursory knowledge of DC so im not exactly in a position to comment. But in totality, i think that bendis will put out a good read on SI and i am definately looking forward to some of the tie-ins, particularily The X-men tie in and the Young avengers/runaway. I read an interview with the writer of the x-men tie in and he pretty much said that pretty much every character who has ever been an x-men is going to throw down with the skrulls and i think its gonna be cool.

  3. I would’ve voted “average”, but you put in the “Morrison will crush Bendis” option.

I’ve been a Morrison fanboy since his brilliant Doom Patrol, and honestly, he’s easily one of the top 3 writers working in the superhero genre today.

And DC has the advantage that they haven’t savaged their IP in recent years anywhere near as much as Marvel.

    So, yeah, “Final Crisis” FTW!

  4. At this point, I would be surprised if I end up reading Final Crisis, so the Morrison option is out for me.

I don’t think Bendis is God either, but I just have a feeling this will be much better than average, so I took that choice anyway.

I’m just hoping for something exciting, terrifying and paranoia inducing like Invasion of the Body Snatchers here.

  5. I think this will be another Civil War or WWH. There will be some good parts but the ending will be flat. I’m also betting that they’ll use this event to negate the Brand New Day arc.

  6. I’m actually really fond of the high-concept of a Skrull invasion. We’ve seen it a lot in the comics before, but I feel like this is the first time we’ll see it taken to it’s widespread, logical conclusion.

I think that in itself is enough to ensure some level of satisfaction, even though I have very little faith in Bendis, or the longterm effects of the story.

It’s easily an “average” for me, but I’m more than happy to have a blockbuster and be wrong.
